Invictus by Rabanne is a woody aquatic fragrance for men. Launched in 2013, this composition was created by Véronique Nyberg, Anne Flipo, Olivier Polge, and Dominique Ropion. The top notes reveal a marine freshness accompanied by grapefruit and tangerine; the floral heart is built on bay leaf and jasmine; while the base notes leave a trail of ambergris, guaiac wood, oakmoss, and patchouli.

Years pass, and it still tastes good; it feels like it was yesterday when it launched with that massive, original advertising. If you feel like a winner wearing it, that’s why so many gentlemen keep using it. It’s adult gum, period. The magic it works on the opposite sex is an aberration; they absolutely love it. For me, it’s a solid 10; pity that so many fragrances copied its DNA, and now you don’t know if it’s Invictus or one of the clones. It doesn’t give you identity, but it gets you compliments and smells delicious.
When I bought it, I hesitated between this and the Parfum version, but the difference was minimal, and this one seemed more potent and long-lasting. It’s fresh, ideal for heat, super youthful, and attention-grabbing. It projects strongly for 2 hours, but since it’s fresh, it’s not annoying; afterwards, the projection drops but it lasts until 8 hours or more. I wouldn’t say buy it without thinking, as today it’s a very common DNA with exact copies at ridiculous prices. Still, it’s a classic that never fails. In my opinion, it’s a 7/10 due to the clone issue, but as a fragrance, it’s among the best for this era.
Paco Rabanne Invictus holds a special place in modern perfumery, not because it’s the most innovative, but because it’s fresh and versatile, creating a DNA that many brands have copied. Since 2013, it’s been a favorite for its energetic freshness, the balance between citrus and wood, and its decent longevity for daily use. The notes of tangerine, grapefruit, and marine accords give a clean, vibrant opening; it’s refreshing without being too acidic, and the aquatic touch makes it perfect for daytime. As it dries down, the laurel and jasmine add a herbal nuance, while the base of ambergris, patchouli, and oakmoss provides masculine depth without being invasive. The projection is notable for an EDT; it doesn’t fade quickly, maintaining a constant presence without being overwhelming, and lasts all day without falling into ‘beast mode’ territory. You can wear it all day without reapplying and without invading others’ space. Its great advantage is versatility: it works in any season, not heavy in summer nor too light in winter. Ideal for daily life: work, informal meetings, or casual outings. Not for night or formal events, but it’s not out of place either. Although it has a very youthful vibe, the woody blend and moderate projection make it suitable for many ages; it resonates more with young people, but it also works for older folks looking for something fresh with complexity. Strengths: Total versatility, projection and longevity superior to the average EDT, energizing freshness, and sophisticated masculinity without complications. Weaknesses: Lack of originality due to copies, weak night projection, a youthful vibe that doesn’t convince everyone, and it’s not a ‘beast mode’. Final Score: 8/10.
Good fragrance, for real. Lasts about 5 to 7 hours in warm and fresh climates. The only downside is that it’s extremely popular, but it has nothing else wrong with it.
Ideal for everyday wear with temperatures between 22 and 37 degrees. It smells great, it’s simple, and it will never fail in any situation within that range. Scent: 9, Longevity: 6.5, Projection: 6, Value: 7, Compliments: 7.9. Final Rating: 7.2.
Good fragrance, obvious, everyone knows it. Lasts about 6 hours; it’s ideal for going out because it’s always there with you, time passes, and it keeps going. Sometimes it’s pricey, but when the price drops, you have to take advantage of it. Highly recommended.
Smells amazing on skin and clothes alike, and lasts a ridiculous amount of time (more than a week). It’s a safe scent that everyone likes but doesn’t stand out too much. In terms of performance, it has moderate projection, a good trail, and slightly reduced longevity on skin. There are many clones, so there are cheaper options with great performance that don’t envy the original in the slightest.
It’s a safe, versatile, and fresh DNA, perfect for almost anything, especially during the day in calm settings, with that nostalgic touch we always know.
It’s a fresh, sensual, and extroverted neo-classic, slightly youthful—perfect for spring or summer parties. Like any great fragrance, there will be knockoffs, but that doesn’t diminish the quality; rather, it proves it’s a benchmark. Don’t let yourself be fooled by Fragrantica reviewers who just want to feel unique at the expense of arrogance. If you don’t like it just because it’s popular, try something that smells like shit and see how much you stand out.
My partner absolutely loves it; she goes crazy for it. It smells like a true winner 🏆
Not much to add, it’s a well-known scent. Just to say that strangely, it smells much better the next day on clothes, so I always wear it on shirts. However, I wouldn’t recommend it on very hot days!
Chapter I – The Gym’s Choice. Once upon a time, there was a young man with a sharp jawline, a fitted t-shirt, and one brain cell. His name was Alex, but he went by ÁlexXxPower, with three ‘x’s, because he’d read it on a protein shake label. His life revolved around bench presses, orange-filtered stories, and the eternal search for a perfume that screamed ‘champion.’ One day, amidst cold lights and house music at torture volume, he found it. Invictus. With its bottle shaped like a trophy cup. Because if you’re going to smell like a winner, you might as well start by looking like one. —’That’s me!’—Alex shouted, almost crying. Chapter II – The Roaring Fragrance. First came a slap in the face of nuclear grapefruit followed by a marine wave that smelled less like the ocean and more like the pool at a Salou hotel in August. Then emerged notes of laurel (more like soup than epic), jasmine (very afternoon vibes with your mom watching a telenovela), and an amber base that embraced you with the tenderness of a steamroller. The formula was simple: Citrus + Sea = Gym Freshness; Laurel + Jasmine = Modern Myth; Amber + Patchouli = Metrosexual Sweetness. And yet… it worked. Like bad jokes at a wedding: they’re repeated so often that they eventually start to please. Chapter III – The Drama. Alex, armed with his Invictus, stepped out into the world. And like all tragic heroes, he fell. Because yes, he hooked up. But with someone who wore the same perfume. In the modern olfactory battle of love, there’s no room for two Invictus. —’You smell like my ex.’ —’So do you.’ The date ended in a draw, smelling of patchouli and sweet defeat. Epilogue – Glory is Plastic. Invictus isn’t a perfume. It’s a bottled fantasy. A glorification of the obvious, an ode to muscle over intelligence, a symphony for those who believe being a man boils down to being strong, sweet, and very obvious. And yet, it works. Because it smells like well-groomed ego, a Saturday night victory, and poorly managed adolescence. In this complicated world, sometimes you just want to smell something simple. Something that screams ‘champion’ even if you haven’t won anything since the FIFA championship in 2013. Invictus: because not all heroes carry swords. Some carry matching deodorant.
@Iguanodondy My first bottle of Invictus was a gift I received for Christmas in 2014. Also, if you take a quick look on YouTube, you’ll see that the first commercial for Invictus has been up for 11 years (the one with a guy carrying a cup on his shoulders, surrounded by Greek goddesses and Kanye West music in the background). All of this, combined with what was mentioned in the previous message, allows us to conclude that Invictus started hitting stores between 2013 and 2014. Therefore, Hawas is a dupe of Invictus, not the other way around.
Iguanodondy Invictus was launched in 2013. In fact, this website even has the article dedicated to it at launch, published back in 2013.
Too many people say it smells like Valentino Born in Roma EDT, and honestly, they’re right—they are similar. However, Invictus is fresher, more casual, and less elegant, plus it uses lower-quality ingredients than the Valentino. I liked the fragrance, but it’s not one of my favorites. Maybe I’ll buy it again in the future, but given what I’ve said, I prefer to go with Valentino Born in Roma EDT. One thing I don’t like is that it’s so overused. I’ve received plenty of compliments; it’s an easy-to-please scent, effortless to wear, and versatile.
This fragrance was launched in 2016, not 2013, so it’s essentially a dupe of Hawas, which came out in 2015.
Invictus is a modern perfumery icon and a scent I absolutely love, but I just bought Victorious by Maison Alhambra and it’s the same thing with better projection. The longevity is practically identical, so I think this will be my new Invictus since they’re virtually the same fragrance for a lot less money. Invictus will always have a special place in my heart, but Victorious is now on my skin 🤪
I thought it was really good; my dad gave it to me because he didn’t have much left, so I use it for him. I don’t know why it has such a low rating; it smells very fresh and is a pleasant scent. I recommend it for a sunny day, or daily wear, school, university, or the gym.
This scent sparked my love for fragrances. It’s extremely popular and common, but for a very good reason. There’s no other scent that compares in that regard. Unfortunately, it’s no longer an interesting fragrance, which holds it back. Now I’m looking for something that gives me the same reaction Invictus used to. It’s too good to just start with and get to know.
The trophy that defined an era. I remember the 2015 TV commercial, the guy holding his trophy to the beat of Kanye West’s ‘Power’—simply epic. I went out and bought it. A youthful, fresh, and slightly sweet scent that was absolutely charming. It was one of the fragrances I ran out of the fastest; I think it lasted me about 4 months before I bought another. A friend asked what perfume I was wearing, and after two months, he started smelling it on me—obviously, he had picked up Invictus. That’s when I decided to move on 😔. Another colleague asked what I was wearing and if I wanted to gift it to her boyfriend for his birthday. Beyond the mass appeal, this is a prime example of how a fragrance could go viral through word-of-mouth in an era before we had as many fake influencer reviewers on social media as we do today. A hit from Paco Rabanne, right alongside the legendary One Million.
Undoubtedly a perfumery classic that set a trend. A fresh and pleasant scent. For the gym, university, and maybe the office. You won’t stand out exactly, but you will smell good. Duration and projection are good.
Delicious perfume, it’s very similar to the Fakhar black bottle, which is supposedly a dupe of Y Eau de Parfum, but it smells too much like this classic Invictus. In my country, none of these designer perfumes are mass-produced anymore because they’re expensive, over $100. I detect a fruity, fresh, sweet aroma, and as it dries down, the laurel note is very noticeable. It’s very tasty and lasts a long time on skin.
Invictus: the perfume everyone ‘no longer uses’ because it’s too mass-market, yet whose shadow chases half the planet, especially when they smell cheap or absurdly expensive Arabic copies, believing they’ve found the Holy Grail. It’s curious: the original is despised, yet dubious imitations are worshipped. Meanwhile, Invictus remains unbeatable, conquering male and female noses without asking permission or checking IQ. Criticize it if you want; he’ll keep smelling like victory.
My first perfume with which I started collecting seriously. I still keep the first launch batch, and it has accompanied me for over 11 years with many compliments. Yes, they mass-produced it due to the HYPE. Yes, many ‘clones’ inspired by its scent came out, why? Because the good stuff gets copied. But the copy never surpasses or equals the original. I still use it sometimes to delight myself with its scent, which some find ‘generic or simple,’ but ‘for noses, the aroma’ as a YouTube reviewer says. The duration remains the same, between 8 to 12 hours, good projection. I haven’t tried the new batches, so I can’t comment.
Invictus Paco Rabanne, classic of classics, another review among so many. I just bought the classic and had to try it. Very fresh opening with marine, citrus, and slightly spicy notes. Very easy to wear in warm climates and generates compliments for all ages, masculine, clean scent, for any occasion. It’s not invasive, but you can feel its presence and prestige. On my skin, it lasts about 4 hours without reapplication, and the fresh notes transform into woody ones. Cons: it doesn’t last long, and the sillage is low, only at close range. I give it 6.5 out of 10. Greetings from Argentina.
I heard it today at a perfumery and took several blotters; it’s definitely not the old Invictus. Back in the day, I only used this, and today I have over 24 perfumes; it had a metallic note I didn’t know, it was my favorite in 2015. Then it ran out, and I was gifted one in 2017-2018 that was still the same, but in 2025 it doesn’t seem equal. I heard they reformulated this, which is most likely. I used it as my signature scent in any season for almost 10 years, but now it smells different. What a pity. Edit 1/2: Before, I noticed it was more marine/salty and sticky/sweet, now it’s more strident/citrusy. I don’t know if it’s a reformulation, but it doesn’t remind me of the old one that flooded rooms. If anyone knows a dupe that reminds me of that, let me know. Edit 2/2: Two days later, the blotter confirmed what I thought. In winter, I had jackets that absorbed the Invictus EDT and created a special, delicious aroma in my room. The blotter now doesn’t smell even close. Comparing it to fabric is difficult, but it doesn’t smell the same. Maybe my sense of smell is more advanced, or it’s a reformulation; it’s very confusing.
My first fragrance ever. I feel very citrusy, marine, and sporty, perfect for the gym. I also saw it in a cable commercial in 2015 as a trophy. When I went to try it, I loved it along with One Million and Ultraviolet, but this hooked me more than Aqua, Victory, or Parfum.
They gave it to me last year for my birthday, and I only wore it once that year; a year later, I wore it to dinner and found it pleasant, elegant, and got tons of compliments. But I won’t repeat it: it’s not bad, but it has something that doesn’t quite fit, maybe a generic whiff and nothing spectacular, a perfume that says ‘okay, but not wow.’ I think it looks super nice on other guys, although the bottle is horrendous.
Invictus is a super mass-market perfume, nothing exclusive, just a general and accessible scent. It’s the type of fragrance worn by someone who just wants to smell ‘good’ without standing out too much. Pleasant, yes, but it doesn’t create that ‘WOW!’ effect. Plus, it smells quite typical within its category and is found in many perfumes of the same style.
The classic Invictus… if it’s this famous, there must be a reason. Smells good, fresh, and pleasant for hot weather. It has that citrus-marine opening that dries down to be slightly more woody and earthy (very subtle, it just ‘darkens’ the scent). Don’t expect magic; it’s a simple, easy-to-liking fragrance that just smells good, but doesn’t bring anything new. Ideal for spring-summer, you’ll get compliments, but it’s not infallible.
A delicious fragrance, easy to wear and everyone likes it. An absolute must-have.
Solid, a classic for daily use, very pleasant.
Still my favorite scent; the aroma is exquisite. I have the new 2025 batch and it stays true to the original DNA. I’ve tried fakes, but you can tell this one has the ambergris that makes it superior in quality to all of them. For me, it’s the best perfume in the world. I love the scent, it’s exquisite.
Perfect for everyday wear, fresh with a really nice scent. The best for the office, a true classic.
Delicious aroma, a classic that still stands the test of time.
Great perfume, there are countless dupes or interpretations out there. It’s very good, but I recommend getting others that work better and cost less, like Hawas Ice or Éter Abarian Sky. If you want the same vibe but elevated, it’s Invictus Platinum, though it’s getting harder to find.
I’ve lived right by the sea for thirty years and have tried every acclaimed marine fragrance, most of which only have aquatic notes; I even thought my nose had stopped detecting them, but that’s not true. When I go to the beach or step outside, I smell the breeze. The only two with real marine notes are Invictus and AQDG Profondo. It’s not a scent that sticks to your face just because it’s called marine—that’s almost offensive, like in Profondo where they throw in too much seaweed. But I get why some people like it. This fragrance is a masterpiece: I can’t believe they managed to blend those notes so exquisitely after all this time. It’s a wonderful marine and fresh scent. I don’t feel distinct notes like in other perfumes; instead, they created a unique aroma by integrating everything. It’s hard to dissect because that’s not how it works (and anyone who says it is is clueless). I think that’s the philosophy of perfumery: create a scent that is simply good. They nailed it here. I don’t think it will go out of style, and who cares if it’s well-known? Every time you smell it, you enjoy it equally. This will be my favorite for a long time.
I tried it and didn’t detect any marine notes—it’s fruity, sticky, and slightly sweet. It never blew my mind. If it’s been mass-produced, it’s a magnet for compliments from women. Longevity is very good, around 7 to 8 hours. The Hawas Classic and Ice smell very similar, but these add plum; they share the same fruity sticky opening that dries down to oakmoss.
Fresh and clean, perfect for the heat and everyday wear.
Smells amazing, but longevity and projection are lacking; as an EDT, you can’t really ask for more. It’s a great citrus-marine art piece, ideal for an incredible day without being overpowering. Just don’t expect insane longevity; it lasts longer on clothes.
