Hubert de Givenchy opened his Paris couture house in 1952. Three years later he presented L'Interdit, a fragrance first created for Audrey Hepburn and then released to the public. The house added its first men's fragrances in 1959.

Givenchy continues to offer lines for women and men. L'Interdit is a family with several concentrations and editions, while Gentleman Society belongs to the more recent men's range. The catalog also includes makeup and skincare, but the fragrance division keeps its historic link with fashion.
