La Nuit de l'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent is a woody-spicy fragrance for men. Launched in 2009, this composition was created by Anne Flipo, Pierre Wargnye, and Dominique Ropion. I bought it blind based on the good reviews, especially from women who love it. And I was right; I love the scent. Very, very refined. I voted 5, although there are areas where it could be better. Longevity on my skin is between 6 hours, and the trail is short; it’s a close-range fragrance, for dates, where the other person has to lean in to smell it. It seems so fine and subtle that it’s not invasive or cloying at all. I’ve seen it rated only for winter and night; I understand the night part because it’s intimate, but it can also be worn during the day without issue, and I’d use it without hesitation in summer too. It smells great but doesn’t tire or cloy.
Hello, I managed to get a 2014 batch (the liquid is darker) and compared it with a 2022 one. The first one feels more like honey and lots of cardamom, while the 2022 smells very much like violet and is much fresher. Longevity: for me, the 2014 lasts longer, easily passing 8 hours, while the new one dies in 6 hours.
I remember when I first smelled it… closing my eyes and saying ‘wow, what a wonder.’ An absolute sensual delight that enchants and alters hormones. It’s a clean citrus cardamom with traces of vetiver and suede-effect woods that accompany you for a lifetime. It’s true that it’s been reformulated and lacks the original intensity and performance, however, it still offers about 8 hours. For those who want potent perfumes, this isn’t the case, as it performs perfectly as a date fragrance, sexy and sensual, inviting people to come closer to smell it. A work of art in perfumery and a must-have in any collection.
Buy blind and you won’t regret it; probably the softest or ‘smoothest’ fragrance I’ve tried. It’s aromatic and fresh but masculine at the same time. On my skin, with a 2024 batch that improves quite a bit according to what I’ve read, it lasts about 6-7 hours with close projection, though it’s never been a beast. It’s a cardamom and vetiver bomb. It can be worn day or night, but I don’t see it working above 25 degrees.
2018 batch that I won’t use unless it’s for a very special occasion, and if not, I’ll use this fragrance to debut my kids with their partners. ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE, SENSUAL, SUPER CLEAN, AND SEDUCTIVE. With 1/4 of the bottle used, it smells like super premium baby powder, woods, and a cardamom that’s not sweet but rich and light. I bought it for a steal from my trusted perfumer: $60 with almost 99% liquid left. I smelled the current version in-store and it vanished in 3 hours; I tried this 2018 one, and although it’s not a monster in longevity, it lasts 4-5 hours like a champion until the sixth hour, where it becomes either null or just skin scent. Highly recommended for any audience 16-18+.
Incredible fragrance with a scent I love that transforms into something aromatic, rich, spicy, floral, and elegant. Ideal for going out at night in spring. I have no complaints; it’s spectacular, lasts longer than others, and has good projection. I bought it blind and have zero regrets. An 8.5 out of 10.
The opening is complicated because it’s very spicy, but after a few minutes, it transforms into something rich and pleasant. The downside is that it felt ‘meh’ due to familiarity with a scent I didn’t know, perhaps because of the massification of this trend in other perfumes my father owns. I wouldn’t consider it warm or fresh; it’s right in the middle of a blue fragrance and has limitations for heat; it’s suitable for cool or cold days.
It’s the best fragrance for men: classy, fresh, and elegant, but with poor longevity; it lasts about 1 hour on skin and 2 on clothes.
I didn’t read all the reviews, but no one mentions the baby product scent that stands out. It smells like a kids’ house cologne—a clean aroma that doesn’t match the name; I would have called it ‘Boy’s Afternoon.’ I like it, but I doubt I’d wear it on my first intimate date; I’d save it for after we’ve gotten to know each other in bed 😉
At first, I thought it was spectacular, rich, and elegant, but once I got used to it, it felt too unmasculine; it smells like baby powder and makeup. It’s unisex but weak, and after 3 or 4 hours, it’s barely noticeable on the skin.
The fragrance with the best smell and worst performance I’ve ever had. Half an hour of joy and minimal projection, then it’s gone. Two hours later, no trace on the skin. If you wear it for a date, make it a quick one 😂
Exquisite and elegant aroma with lavender and cardamomo, a soapy touch, spiced and fresh with cedar and bergamot. Perfect for dates on mild nights. Performance is low (4-6 hours) and projection is minimal from the start, staying very close to the skin. It doesn’t call attention, making it ideal for interviews or going out without being intrusive. Versatile for anyone over 20. I give it an 8.5/10.
My favorite fragrance. From the start, you get that enveloping lavender mixed with spices creating a brutal blend. It smells like a man, elegant and sensual, conveying cleanliness, intimacy, and a seductive touch that hooks me. Every time I smell it, I want to re-scent myself. It reminds me of a young, well-dressed movie character at a gala: elegant with special magnetism. It’s versatile for any elegant moment, standing out on mild nights. The downside is it lasts about 3 hours and projects little, but that’s part of its charm: it’s intimate, you feel it up close, and it invites you to get closer.
I bought it for the story and reviews claiming it’s the best in perfumery. The scent is good, but the performance is horrible—probably the worst on the market right now. Sometimes, if my skin isn’t hydrated, it doesn’t even hit instantly. A true shame. Don’t waste your money; for the new generation, it’s something we’ve moved past; better fragrances are coming.
The best cardamomo I’ve ever tried. It’s bottled sensuality.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t last at all; poor performance and not worth the price. I only see use for it in an enclosed space like a car for short dates. It’s useless for casual wear: the first crosswind takes it away. It sticks to the skin and is nonexistent after two hours. It’s not even good for a first date because you have to hug or get very close for anyone to smell it :/
It’s a clean, crisp scent, but it’s not something I’d wear. It oddly fulfills the description: it literally smells like a wet wipe or baby butt cleaning, even though nothing was cleaned. Plus, people say it doesn’t last; I don’t know why since I only tested it on blotter paper.
Smells rich, clean, and elegant—great for a shirt and jeans combo—but I won’t be buying it again due to its pathetic performance. I found something better: Lattafa Asdaaf or Al Shama Capice, which are 90% similar but way more potent. Designer brands charge a fortune for weak fragrances; I’m tired of this abuse. Arab perfumes deliver rich, lasting scents; this one fades in an hour and is a total mess. Goodbye, no more purchases from you.
I love it; it’s the richest cardamomo I’ve ever smelled. What a shame the performance is so bad, though—it could have been the perfect fragrance.
To warn anyone else: it doesn’t project, you can barely smell it. I reapplied an hour later to catch the opening and… almost nothing. I used it again and there was no trace at all. Terrible.
I had high expectations based on the seduction claims, but it’s nothing like they promised. To me, it doesn’t smell sensual or masculine at all—it’s unisex. It suits a woman fine, but it lacks that vibe of a men’s fragrance. It’s not my style, so don’t buy it blind; better to try a decant first.
A classic night scent: sexy, well-executed, and elegant. Ideal for dates and cool weather. But its current performance is just okay: modest projection and questionable longevity. If you value scent over sillage, you’ll like it; if you’re looking for power, check out options with more body or vintage versions.
It’s a very rich perfume; the cardamom is delicious, one of the richest scents I’ve ever smelled. A great fragrance for men 35 and up.
I bought the 200ml bottle, a great pick for dates or close encounters, but the longevity isn’t good.
The reformulations have killed it. It still feels fresh and spicy with that warm cardamom touch that made it special.
My favorite because of the cardamom and how it blends with vetiver when dry; it’s spectacular. If it lasted longer, it would be my go-to date fragrance.
La Nuit de L’Homme is balanced and elegant, conveying cleanliness and seduction. It has an intimate and enveloping vibe, subtle and refined. It opens with spicy cardamom and soft bergamot, then lavender adds a soapy cleanliness paired with woody cedar, while vetiver closes with a creamy texture. It’s sober, romantic, and perfect for dates or work; it creates a pleasant personal bubble. It lasts 6-7 hours with a discreet sillage. It brings back good memories and projects confidence. Rating: 8.
Scent: delicious, sexy, and simple. Performance: terrible. Zero longevity, no projection or sillage. Price: way too high for a designer fragrance. With those facts, you decide. For me, I wouldn’t buy it. Scent: 8.5, Projection: 3.5, Longevity: 5.5.
It smells almost identical to Bleu Électrique.
Out of my entire collection, this is the worst performer: it fades from my skin by the hour and from my clothes by two. It’s exquisite, but it’s frustrating not to be able to smell it after so little time.
Fresh out of the March 2024 batch: good longevity, projection, and trail. Lasts days on clothes, 8-9 hours on skin with great projection for the first 2 hours. A masterpiece of perfumery, nothing more to add.
February 2024 batch: the reformulation hit hard, but it’s not the end. If you use it correctly, it performs perfectly. With its unique scent, you’ll stand out with girls; the poor projection makes it ideal for close encounters. Use it when inviting someone home: that way, they’ll feel close without being overwhelmed. As the projection drops, they’ll lean in closer to enjoy it without getting saturated. Now you have to position it well: perfect for dinners, casual outings, or formal night events. The reduced performance limits its use at open parties or crowded places; it won’t be noticed from afar. Let’s adapt: it’s perfect for home dates, making it more exclusive for couples. Would I buy it again at $70? Yes. Is it from another world? No, it’s simple, but since it doesn’t smell like anything else and isn’t easy to detect, it feels sexy, sensual, and modern. Does it smell like grandma’s perfume or is it unisex? I disagree with that; it’s not meant to grab attention or play the player.
I’m not talking about performance, just the scent: it’s one of the sexiest, most masculine, and charming fragrances out there. The first time I smelled it, I was blown away. 10/10.
I bought the YSL La Nuit de L’Homme EDT 200ml for under $70. I’ve had it since 2009, and its performance has dropped. It’s still one of the sexiest and most impactful fragrances in history; people can’t help but ask, ‘You smell great.’ It was my signature; on dry skin it lasted 7 hours, now barely 4. Before, 6-8 sprays were enough; today I need 12-15. The opening isn’t overwhelming. Even though it’s a men’s scent, it works great on women. I recommend it with caveats: don’t buy it on a whim or at full price. Given the current performance, the larger bottle is worth it since you need to apply more. Note: if you don’t love it, a small bottle will leave you with leftovers.
I got lucky with a 2017 bottle; it was poetry: clean, creamy, sweet like honey, and elegant, lasting 6-7 hours. Now, after the reformulation, it smells simpler, less sweet, and lasts barely 3 hours. What a shame, but if you find it cheap and let it mature, it’s still enjoyable.
The dry-down is exquisite—soft yet present with a lot of personality. I’ve only received two compliments, but it’s very special. Its flaw is the longevity and projection, but it’s indispensable for short events. I recommend it; it’s an essential.
Look, people don’t get it and talk about performance. Before, LNDH was Megamare. It’s perfect for intimate dates: subtle and distinguished, not overpowering. A girl will almost certainly like it. It’s spiced cardamom with cedar and clean woods—delicious and not tiring. That’s why it seems like it doesn’t last: it doesn’t saturate, and your nose ignores it. 200ml bottle, use a decant to reapply at 4 hours, stop the nonsense. Listen to Carlitos Rubio and buy Delizia Oscura or Elixir Centauri if you want it to project well; you’ll see where I’m going…
What happened to me with this? I hated it at first, but years later I rediscovered it and fell in love. It’s rich, addictive, soft, and seductive; it invites people to get close and smell you. If it lasted longer on my skin, it would be perfect. Highly recommended.
The hype disappointed me, not the perfume itself: I found it boring, and on my skin it fades quickly. 4.6/10.
Good for galas—elegant and sophisticated—but on my skin it lasts only 4-5 hours. The trail is heavy at first but not overwhelming. Ideal for cold weather; very complex, so I wouldn’t recommend it for daytime.
