Intense Cafe by Montale is an oriental vanilla fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2013, this olfactory composition was created by Pierre Montale. I like it, but I bought it expecting a coffee scent. Reviews mentioned that many detect coffee-milk, but to me, it smells like sweet tobacco with roses, like crushed tobacco mixed with sugar and roses. The longevity isn’t the bombshell Montale claims; on my skin, it lasts about 7 hours, and after two sprays, it becomes more intimate, just for me and those who get very close. I bought it blind expecting intense coffee, but that’s not what it is for me. Luckily, I love that tobacco scent.
A unisex fragrance that leans slightly feminine. Here, there’s a prominent rose accompanied by a gourmand aroma, a coffee-with-milk sensation, in an oriental style. It’s enveloping and will delight sweet lovers. Good longevity and projection for cold weather. Worth trying, especially given the price, which usually approaches niche territory.
Delicious!!! I love it because it smells like Intense Roses Musk from the same house, but with a coffee twist. It has the same intensity, trail, and longevity as its sibling IRM; I never get tired of enjoying them.
It’s the same as Mancera’s Roses Vanille, just with less longevity, and I didn’t detect any coffee scent anywhere.
For those who say it doesn’t smell like coffee: yes, it has other notes, but when it comes to coffee, it smells like coffee.
Based on the name ‘Intense Café’, I imagined a grainy scent, but I was surprised to find the rose so prominent—a note I absolutely love. Don’t expect much coffee or just coffee. It’s a bottled gem that lasts for hours. Highly recommend if you like roses and sweet, almost gourmand bases. Mmm, you are divine, Intense Café!
What an incredible perfume. One of the few masterpieces of recent years for women. It’s my wife’s favorite along with Feve Delicieuse. Opens with soft coffee and a sweetened, vanilla rose that is wonderful. Ultra-feminine and addictive. A true masterpiece by Pierre Montale that has inspired countless clones, though none match its charm. Projects and lasts under great conditions. What a pity there are so many Zara copies or niche knockoffs; its mass production is a shame. Greetings.
I have a vial and it smells almost identical to Roses Vanille. I’m not usually a rose fan, but here it’s the star with great body and power. Surprisingly, the more I use it, the more I’m hooked on the sweetness and vanilla. I don’t get the ‘Intense Café’ part because the coffee is only noticeable at first and isn’t the main highlight. A bit disappointing for that reason, but aside from being sugary, it has a musky, beastly creaminess. Lasts and projects like a monster. If you like rose and vanilla, it’s a gem; if you’re looking for coffee, look elsewhere. EDIT: I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m already hooked. Changed to I LIKE IT 😱
Smells exactly like the notes say: roses, spiced coffee, and a musk base. Unlike other reviews, the coffee is super noticeable here. It smells sexy and is definitely unisex. I recommend it.
I love it! It’s stylish and 100% unisex. Perfect for fall and winter; in summer, it would be too strong and sweet.
I’m a coffee lover, and this fragrance was love at first sniff. In the opening, I feel sweet coffee with rose; as it dries down, it leaves a delicious coffee aroma (like a cappuccino) that stays with you until the end. Recommended for cold days.
What a lovely rose-vanilla combo… The coffee is felt very briefly. I expected to feel it like in Mancera’s Aoud Cafe, but here it’s fused with the rose and vanilla in a perfect amalgamation, very well crafted with an unbeatable balance. Is it unisex? Yes, but lacking oud, it leans more feminine. In conclusion, simply delicious. What more can I say? Just added it to my collection. It smells similar to Orientica’s Velvet Gold, but it’s cheaper and has similar longevity; the presentation is no less. If you like this scent, try what I mentioned and you’ll be fascinated. If you want something almost identical but super affordable, there’s one by Rihanna called Sab Ha Wa Oud that costs around $40. Great, but nothing beats this Intense Café, which is the best. Edit: this Intense Café has better longevity than the Orientica, better development, though it doesn’t project as much. Totally recommended. Very delicious scent.
My boyfriend doesn’t like coffee, and without knowing he was wearing it, he absolutely loves it; he says he’d prefer it in winter because it gets hot. I like it… I’m not sure. It smells like dark, very black coffee, with roses and something balsamic or mentholated, strong, like menthol candies that clear up the nose, yet dark. Maybe it’s the acidity of black coffee. If people are three parts water, I’m two parts coffee; I like coffee, but this perfume doesn’t quite convince me, and it’s nowhere near killing my taste. We’ll see how it performs in winter.
I love this perfume with all my heart. Many consider it the typical femme fatale, but for me, it’s comforting, calm, and sensual. Perfect for a date or for staying home reading on a rainy day. Ideal for autumn with medium longevity. Despite the name, what I notice most are gourmand roses and a chocolatey musk. One of the best gourmands if you don’t want anything heavy. 11/10 <3
As a coffee lover, this was love at first sniff. In the opening, I smell sweet coffee with rose; as it dries down, it leaves a coffee aroma (like a cappuccino). Everyone says it’s femme fatale, but for me, it’s an embracing scent, perfect for a romantic or friendly date, or for staying home reading on a rainy day. Ideal for an autumn afternoon watching Netflix. Despite the name, what I notice most are gourmand roses and a chocolatey musk, with the coffee there but not the star. A special gourmand. For me, it’s a 10 in scent and performance.
What a disappointment. When I first tested it, it lasted a long time, but after buying it, I barely smell it. Plus, the bottle arrived defective. It’s my first Montale, and it has disappointed me.
Personally, I don’t get a strong coffee note, but I do detect those sweetened roses and vanilla notes found in many perfumes nowadays; that’s why it’s not very original. It’s a cozy, sweet fragrance, ideal for autumn and cold weather. Nothing sexy; it’s more like a wool sweater or jacket. The longevity wasn’t great: about 4 hours on skin and clothes, but very subtle. I finished the bottle, crushed my desire for a ‘Montale,’ and moved on…
I expected more coffee given the name. The opening is 100% floral, and only after it settles does a very soft coffee note emerge in the background, maintaining a floral and sweet aroma. As a coffee lover, I tested it to buy it… although it’s unisex, on my skin it smells very feminine. I wouldn’t wear it myself, but I’d love to smell it on a woman.
I haven’t smelled it yet. People say it smells like RISTRETTO INTENSE CAFÉ, which doesn’t interest me. Based on the notes, it resembles MANCERA AOUD CAFE, but it lacks the oud and blackcurrants. I’ll give it a try, but they also say it smells like MANCERA ROSES VANILLA, which complicates the purchase.
My mother has Roses Vanille by Mancera and it’s IDENTICAL. The only difference is that at the end of the rose and vanilla, this one leaves a tiny trace of ground coffee, while Mancera keeps the sugary notes. The performance is identical, so if you’re undecided, buy the cheaper one or grab a deal.
Sprayed on each hand for 15-20 minutes: Mancera ROSES VANILLA and Montale INTENSE CAFÉ. They’re almost identical. Mancera lives up to its name, but with Montale, I expected a dominant coffee scent from start to finish. At first, yes, but then the rose and vanilla take over everything. The coffee disappears quickly. What a pity.
@mohr_711… In terms of value, the 120ml bottle is cheaper and the magnetic cap atomizer is worthy of niche perfumery: cloud-like sprays with micro-droplets and great performance (6-8 sprays). If you have one, you don’t need the other. I tested both on my sister: Roses Vanilla is more floral, while Intense Café is sweeter without being cloying, with very subtle coffee if you hold it close to your nose. The scent is pleasant, but it owes a lot because the coffee is NOT intense. It should be called Latte Rose or Rose Milkcchino.
One of my favorites: I enjoy smelling it but can’t see myself wearing it, though I’m sure it will sell. It seems super sexy, for a sensitive, bohemian, spiritual man—nothing macho. Russell Brand embodies that profile. If you’re looking for coffee but something more masculine, try Killian’s Intense Café. Montale’s Ristretto does exactly that: more coffee in the opening. The best one is this, the most balanced.
A fake coffee. It’s a synthetic rose and feminine fragrance with notes like a cappuccino, nothing like black coffee. Everyone loves it and it shows, even if it’s not in ‘beast mode’ as many claim; it’s worth it despite the name.
I used to have a lot of affection for it, especially the amber on my skin. Over time, it’s not as obsessive as Montale’s Chocolate Greedy anymore. Good moments, but it just doesn’t grab me anymore.
Sweet, subtle, and elegant. It’s not macho, but the vanilla and rose give it softness with a coffee base. Unlike other Montales, it’s not a beast: it lasts about 6 hours. If they toned down the rose and boosted the coffee with wood, it would be ideal for men. It starts strange but then becomes an addictive gourmand.
It doesn’t disappoint; its reputation is well-earned. All Montales are hits: they smell exactly as described (coffee, rose, amber) and are rich, balanced, and stunning. They are an olfactory rainbow, and truly rare is a unisex that is actually unisex. Delicious, though I don’t know if dupes match this quality.
I drink coffee daily and I detect zero coffee here… The vanilla with the floral bouquet is a beautiful experience, reminiscent of Narciso Rodríguez. Definitely a feminine fragrance, nothing unisex, which is why the sales associate offered it to me.
My first niche review: I don’t smell coffee, just a sharp, aggressive rose. In the background, something sweet that I can’t identify, but nothing else. It reminds me of commercial air fresheners that hit the olfactory bulb hard with random flowers. Ultimately, it smells like that typical synthetic rose from Montale: you either love it or can’t stand it.
Smells like spiced rose and lasts too long; the coffee is barely noticeable. I get dizzy wearing it, even though I know others would love it. I’ve tried it thousands of times and it still feels strange to me—more suited for a garden than skin. 2/10. 🍂
I do perceive the coffee, but it’s more of a vanilla latte over a bed of dry, dark roses. The title is misleading, as the coffee is subtle and not the main note, serving only to accentuate the others. It’s not about how coffee smells, but how a coffee shop adorned with bouquets of flowers would smell. As it dries, the most evident notes are vanilla rose and amber. The powdery point they claim is true; that’s what I find hardest to discern. I use it for temperatures below 21°C; it’s the kind of fragrance that gives you a hug. It’s the kind of gourmand that doesn’t cloy, as it has the dark, unisex point I need to wear it comfortably. However, among the brand’s stars, I prefer Arabians Tonka as it feels more elegant to me. Good trail and longevity. I agree with other reviews about its linearity: it’s very similar to Mancera Roses Vanille, so it’s not worth buying if you already have the other.
Great perfume for rose lovers, because I feel it’s loaded with them. It lasts well and is noticeable, a bit more feminine than masculine. I consider it one of those perfumes that even if you’re not interested, you should at least smell it for the experience. 8.7/10.
What could possibly go wrong with coffee, roses, and vanilla? Here we have an exquisitely seductive fragrance from Montale. Intense Café offers atomic projection that lasts until you’re exhausted, ensuring you leave a memorable mark. The scent is incredibly seductive, perfect for dates, cool weather, and situations where you want to stand out. The interesting part is that the coffee isn’t overwhelming or leaning into the gourmand profile like in other works by the brand. Here, the rose and vanilla are the protagonists, enveloping the composition and adding an allure that makes you never tire of wearing it. The combination is delicious and well-balanced. In short, Montale Intense Café is a wonderful recommendation. If you’re looking for a unique fragrance that makes you feel irresistible, you definitely should add it to your collection.
Intense Café is another good perfume where the coffee note is recognizable, but not at the level of an espresso or like in Ristretto by the same brand. The combination with rose, vanilla, and a musk that doesn’t feel entirely plastic makes the result lean gourmand, it performs excellently, and handles cold weather super well. The first time I smelled it, it was very intense, but I think with the right amount, the experience will be more than satisfactory. Personally, it’s a super pleasant perfume I’d especially bet on for winter, though it’s not my definitive coffee perfume. Note: 8/10. Tested from the discovery set.
On my skin, it leaves an exquisite, sweet rose. It’s a very feminine, delicate, and elegant perfume. Unfortunately, I don’t perceive the coffee; the floral notes are what dominate. I think it could be bought blind if you love the rose note.
An excellent sweet and charming aroma for the night. Its coffee and amber notes with a rose top make anyone want to wear it.
An olfactory clickbait that, despite everything, actually worked. Its name promises one thing, but the fragrance takes me on an unexpected journey. Yes, there’s coffee at the end, but it lasts barely five minutes and feels more anecdotal than authentic—synthetic, almost like instant coffee. Montale could have named something more elegant and avoided the coffee reference. What truly dominates is a velvet cloak of rose petals unfolding almost from the start. A rose so well-crafted that it made me reconcile with this note. It’s warm and round, and right there the clickbait triumphs: the rose is a door to my past, evoking Arab culture, my Syrian grandmother, and those jars of rose petal jam. This Intense Café tells that story: a family breakfast with toast and that special jam, while my mother read the coffee grounds to my father. A simple scene but loaded with meaning. It’s perfectly unisex; while I understand some noses might see it as more feminine, I wear it with total confidence. It’s ideal for winter: its warmth, spicy sweetness, and enveloping aura shine in the cold. So if you order an intense coffee and get gifted a bouquet of roses, accept it, because life is exactly that.
Like all Montales, it’s extraordinary. On my skin, the coffee note takes a backseat to the florals and vanilla. I think it would look great on a young man.
Sweet and characterful. A new discovery for me: the sharp note doesn’t come from citrus, but from a bold, powdery rose that dominates the entire development. As it dries, it sweetens like a rose wrapped in dense honey. The coffee is very subtle, coming and going, adding a spicy, warm nuance. Many perceive it as a creamy latte, but for me, it’s almost imperceptible; still, I see it as a challenge and an expansion of my taste. I bought it recently and keep discovering it, but it’s an interesting chameleon that has already earned me many compliments. It wasn’t love at first sight, but there’s something that makes me want to understand it more, something that usually happens with perfumes I end up loving.
Floral and vanilla with a barely perceptible hint of coffee after half an hour. The longevity is solid, as is typical for Montale.
