Descripción

Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent is a vanilla oriental fragrance for women. Launched in 2014, this composition was created by Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Olivier Cresp, and Honorine Blanc. The top notes reveal pear, pink pepper, and orange blossom; the heart unfolds coffee, jasmine, bitter almond, and licorice; while the base notes complete the olfactory pyramid with vanilla, patchouli, cashmere wood, and cedar.

I smelled it by chance at an airport store in Boston and fell in love. Its notes blend so delicately, and its longevity is very good. So far, it has been my favorite perfume.

  • I HATE IT; no scent has ever seemed so disgusting to me. I’ve seen it recommended as one of the best and most praised, but I’ve smelled it on my skin and on blotter paper, and I can’t stand it. It’s too sour from the coffee; I don’t see anything youthful in it, nor 0%, rather it smells like a woman over 60. I don’t feel the sweetness, only the bitterness of the coffee. But perfumes are like art; everyone feels something different, and many like it 🙂

  • Yeli parfum

In my opinion, it’s a beautiful composition with many nuances, but on my skin, it doesn’t last; it evaporates very quickly, bad luck. Enjoy it on those skin types where it actually lasts.

  • When I smelled it, I didn’t understand the hype. It’s sweet and potent, but not at all youthful; it seems very synthetic, maybe for older ladies. So much potency feels like cheap perfume. Personally, it’s not to my liking.

  • I’ve had it for years and always receive compliments. Maybe it’s basic or overused, but the scent is incredible: vanilla and coffee with patchouli in the background that gives it depth. Although I’m not a fan of patchouli, here it’s perfectly blended and doesn’t stand out. I see it as perfect for going out at night with friends, for picking up guys, and for women aged 35-40; it’s very sexy but not mature, rather playful/spicy. When perfumes are popular, there’s a reason.

  • As a coffee lover, this is divine. Sensual, mature, glamorous, caramelized… I don’t care about the hate; let them say it’s basic, sour, bitter, or personality-less. I love this perfume, whatever it is for others. To each their own. Seductive, caramelized, with roasted coffee, extravagant, and radiant. I feel divine, elegant, and wealthy; perfect for dates, meetings, or night events. It reminds me of a dominant, suggestive, and perhaps slightly lascivious woman. Ideal for cold weather and autumn, and for nights… its bottle screams it. It’s exquisite, mature, and caramelized without losing sweetness. Did I already say it’s divine? With incredible performance and an even better trail. One of my most complimented perfumes. Poor souls who read the reviews might not buy it blindly. It has an intoxicating but not suffocating charm. I would definitely buy it again.

  • I always say that if a perfume is popular, there’s a reason. Although it has notes for my signature scent, I can’t see myself wearing it. The jasmine drives me crazy, but here it’s not realistic enough for me, and the coffee? Not even on TV; it’s a pity. Still, I think it’s a classic. It’s my sister’s perfume, so I associate it with a beautiful feeling. That said, it has nothing to do with the original Opium; it’s not a flanker of anything, and it makes no sense for it to share a name with my signature.

  • Who hasn’t had Black Opium? I think it was one of my first perfumes, and every time I wear it, it’s like returning to a happy place. Winter, nocturnal, very warm, and pleasant; a safe bet for a winter night. I stopped using it because everyone had it, and in my case, I like to have an exclusive scent.

  • If you like compliments, this is ideal. Every time I wear it, more than one person asks what I’m wearing. It’s delicate, but the delicious vanilla is unmistakable. I’d describe it as a table with a jasmine vase, vanilla cake, pear feet, and all warm coffee; that mix is perfect.

  • An aroma with HUGE presence. It’s not for those who want to smell delicate or sweet, but for those who want to make an impact and project luxury, perfect for a night out or a party. When I smell it, I think of high heels and a short black dress. I recommend it as a night perfume for girls who don’t want to feel delicate or sweet… lots of cocoa, milky coffee, vanilla, wood, and almond.

  • I love it. That’s why it’s one of the most used. It has presence and all its notes blend sublimely. It’s not a heavy perfume, but I see it more as a night fragrance.

  • What can you say about this jewel that seems like a global clone? Nothing compares to it. I absolutely adore it and always get it as a gift. It’s sexy, nocturnal, and unique♥️

  • Chocolate con licor

I can’t find the hype for this perfume; honestly, I don’t like it. It smells very strongly of vanilla, coffee, and pear—a weird and unpleasant mix with no seduction or class. It’s way too strong and leaves a heavy trail; even with a light spray, it feels harsh and nonsensical. I wouldn’t even want to smell it on another woman, and it’s so overused. I’ve heard of several dupes, and even Vitamina C Night seems better to me.

  • Manu_speranza

Sweet, white floral, with hints of coffee and vanilla, plus a touch of talc. I like it, but I don’t love it; I need to wear it more to write a more complete review.

  • I like it; it doesn’t drive me crazy. Maybe I’m just a bit tired and everything smells the same to me, but doesn’t it have some of Prada Paradoxe in it? Since I knew Paradoxe first, I prefer this one. I’ll see how the dry-down is.

  • Beautiful for gourmand lovers, it’s more complex than expected, but it remains a commercial scent. I’ve received many compliments, and it will always be my winter favorite. Longevity and sillage are disappointing, but it’s very skin-friendly; I can detect all the described notes. Coffee and vanilla stand out, with occasional touches of the others.

  • geomeun.apyeon

Well, the fragrance has changed over the years, but I have my little collection and I’m almost finishing the second 100ml bottle. It’s one of my favorites. No matter how many other fragrances try to imitate it, they can’t match it. It has a special note: it smells cozy yet fresh, like a mix of winter and spring perfumes. I always use it and never get tired of smelling it :3 I still don’t know if it’s delicate or wild, but everyone loves it when they smell it 😌

  • What can I say about this… It was the first in my collection, and I still love it like the first day. It’s my go-to for going out at night and feeling sexy and interesting. It’s intense, deep, and seductive. Although it has woody notes, they don’t stand out; instead, the pepper and coffee give that initial kick that lasts for hours before yielding to vanilla, patchouli, and bitter almond. Use it within the first two years because over time it becomes heavier and resinous. Longevity is off the charts: I’ve used it thousands of times for dancing, and the next day, after showering, I can still smell it. I repurchase it every time I finish a bottle; it’s a must-have.

  • My first perfume and currently the one I like the least. At first, I absolutely loved it: long-lasting, sexy, and playful. The vanilla is sweet, almost artificial, but the spices add warmth. Pink pepper lightens it up, and by the end, the base gains depth and dynamism (sounds pretentious, but it’s the best I have). Longevity and sillage are EXCELLENT; the next day, after showering, people could still smell it after just three sprays. It’s a scent hard to hate, but it’s too popular. Once I realized that, I lost interest. It’s common now, with near-identical dupes (like Nuit de Ciel). It used to be my go-to for going out and special occasions, but now you can smell it everywhere, even in the park. It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

  • Coffee, vanilla, and patchouli. It’s very common, but one of my favorites. At first, it can be overwhelming, especially since I don’t usually like patchouli, but once it dries down, it smells beautiful: warm, cozy, and mature. It’s perfect for romantic dinners and, above all, for going out partying. It’s very sexy, and I’ve received tons of compliments wearing it.

  • I bought my first Black Opium when it launched. Back then, I preferred fresh scents and wore it only for winter parties. A few months later, I got tired of it, it smelled everywhere, and there were so many imitations, so I didn’t repurchase. Ten years later, my tastes have changed. Who would have thought I’d fall in love with sweet, intense perfumes? I bought one a month ago. I love it. On my skin, the coffee, vanilla, and licorice stand out. Since I don’t go out at night anymore, I wear it for daily use and it doesn’t seem so strong. It might smell less intense than before, or maybe my nose got used to it, but I like feeling it all day, and the good thing is I don’t smell it everywhere. Hopefully, they don’t discontinue it.

  • araxieldoyel

It wasn’t my first perfume, but it was one of the first I repurchased. I agree with many reviews: I got tired of smelling it, which is sad, but I’m grateful it was my gateway to seeking more interesting scents.

  • cuarentaydos

My old reliable. I know lots of people use it, but I mix it with berry perfumes and it creates a super original scent <3.

  • Nice perfume, ideal for going out at night in autumn or winter. It lasts a lot of hours; it reminds me of the Good Girl style but with more coffee scent and more intensity. I didn’t buy it because I liked its flanker, Illicit Green, more.

  • Tatiecheverrip

What I love is that it’s spectacular: the balance between sweetness, freshness, and that coffee note makes it elegant and cozy. It lasts hours on clothes, but barely four on the skin. It’s not very projecting, but it’s so pleasant I wear it even to sleep.

  • My favorite perfume without a doubt. The sweetness of the vanilla blends perfectly with the warm, mysterious coffee, and the white floral touches make it more elegant and less one-dimensional. Simply exquisite and magnetic.

  • Thank god for perfumes for this creation that’s been around for over a decade and continues to fascinate coffee lovers. It’s an absolute classic, a true icon of its time with an incredible presentation. ☕️🫶🏻

  • How tastes change with age! I tried it when I was young and didn’t like it, but now I prefer intense, sweet scents, so I tried this gem again: I absolutely loved it, it’s already on my wishlist ❤️ It smells floral and sweet, and its coffee note is enigmatic and unique.

  • One of the most disappointing purchases I’ve made. It smells nice, sure, but it fades in minutes. I have a local dupe that lasts way longer and costs a tenth of the price. For the price, I don’t recommend it at all. I use it to mix with others, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

  • NormaCuevas

It really catches my attention that they don’t list caramel. To me, it’s a caramel macchiato (coffee and caramel) from the very first spray and remains a dominant note throughout the heart. On the base, I detect the listed notes, subtle but present. It’s not among my favorites because it’s not my style, but I think it’s good for evening wear, mainly in winter.

  • I grabbed it blind and honestly, I love buying perfumes that way, but… where’s the coffee? I can’t smell it. I was looking for something intense and bitter, but this is more sweet, delicate, and super wearable. Not for winter, but perfect for year-round wear.

  • Woman in Love

A spectacular nocturnal aroma: sweet, seductive, and with huge presence. It’s incredibly beautiful. On very young girls it might be a bit too much, but on a confident woman who knows her worth… it’s pure luxury. Longevity and sillage are moderate.

  • geomeun.apyeon

Haha 🙂 I literally don’t exist without this perfume. I’m finishing the bottle, so I’m hoping to buy a new one soon. It has YSL’s jasmine signature: fresh, versatile, not cloying, and sweet. Perfect for day and night. I wore it in summer and felt fresh; in winter it becomes much more potent. I don’t consider it extremely elegant or strictly nocturnal; it remains youthful, sparkling, and versatile. Longevity is slightly on the shorter side, but I like that I can reapply without overwhelming anyone. Just hoping the 2015 EDT version returns; that one was closer but a bit sweeter. Anyway, I think there’s plenty of Black Opium left if they don’t reformulate it again again ♡

  • Black Opium is an aroma I love, but I feel it’s becoming super overused. At first, floral notes, a light touch of pear and pepper, then a delicate coffee with vanilla. The longevity is good, about 6 hours (exaggerating). I barely smell the patchouli; it sits between gourmand and floral.

  • Ayelén Terán

When I first bought it, I thought it smelled amazing, but over time I noticed it didn’t last long and was barely noticeable. I like the combination; it’s a good formula, but it just didn’t work for me.

  • thesongofhecate

For many years it was my signature scent; now I prefer a flanker like Black Opium Over Red. But reviewing it as I used to love it: an elegant aroma where coffee, patchouli, vanilla, and pear dominate. Sweet, warm, and soft, it leaves a trail wherever it goes. I got many compliments from men. Good longevity, though not until the next day. A classic I’d buy again if you’re a fan of the brand and coffee.

  • I bought it for night outs, but on my skin it smells like cigarettes, which is very strange. Pity because a friend thinks it smells great.

  • Marianela B

This perfume smells like coffee to me. That’s it. That’s the only note that really stands out.

  • On paper it’s not much, but on another skin it’s COMPLETELY different. Very seductive, captivating, and striking. Made for personal encounters, never for parties or crowds. Pity I can’t smell it on myself; it smells like average vanilla or floral, nothing like this.

  • I love vanilla perfumes and am fascinated by coffee notes, but this one just doesn’t work for me. The coffee is so dominant it dulls the sweetness, making it feel more nocturnal and suited for older women; I adore it on my mom (40s) but not so much on myself, though it’s still a rich fragrance.
