I made the mistake of buying it despite living in summer all year. Suddenly, in cold weather, the fragrance might perform differently, but if you live in a hot zone, like my case, I don’t recommend it.
First of all… where is the eugenol? For those who don’t know, it’s a dental analgesic based on clove with a very particular aroma, the dentist’s perfume. Now you know why many people don’t like this fragrance, haha. Is that clove scent coming through? It could be sweetened more by vanilla and cinnamon, perhaps a bit boozy. A very present but discreet tobacco. I love it, just not on me; it seems more suited for a mature woman with great personality, a true lady. Incredible performance: the first time I used it, my room was saturated for a week. Don’t even think about applying it to clothes, and don’t use it in summer, especially in an enclosed space with enough sprays, you could end up overwhelming everyone. Ideal for open spaces and cold weather; winter is its best season, especially nights.
It smells like a gentleman who drank cognac, pfff, I sprayed it at duty-free and I got dizzy.
It’s a spectacular fragrance, sweet and warm with an incredible aroma. Very vanilla with a touch of tobacco and cocoa that add a captivating and enveloping elegance.
Finally, I bought it blind and can’t wait to use up the 30ml so I can buy the 100ml. It’s exquisite; I didn’t know what I was missing without this house jewel from Tom Ford. Spectacular, for me the best Tom Ford or one of the best creations ever. On me, that special tobacco with sweetness stands out more; it’s a bomb for me, with projection and longevity worthy of the price, definitely worth every penny.
I have a fairly extensive collection. I discovered this fragrance in 2024, and honestly, it might just be my favorite fragrance of all time.
I searched through reviews to see if anyone understood what it smells like and found an opinion that explains it perfectly. You can detect eugenol, a dental analgesic, and it smells like when you get a tooth fixed. If you want a vanilla masculine scent, try CH Men or Spicebomb Extreme; this isn’t good for me.
I know many people love this perfume, but honestly, I don’t like it at all, probably because of how it sits on my skin. The only notes you detect are tobacco and vanilla at the start; it’s very warm, has strong projection, and lasts for days. For me, the perfect description is that it smells like syrup: you notice the vanilla at first, but then it becomes a very sweet scent with a strong tobacco note, like a fine cigar soaked in syrup. I don’t like it, but I know many people might adore it.
Honestly, I’m sticking with Herod by Parfums de Marley. In Tobacco Vanille, the tobacco note dominates overwhelmingly, and it’s not that aromatic tobacco found in Herod. In Tom Ford, the tobacco is intense while the vanilla is almost residual, though Tobacco Vanille has better performance in projection and longevity. Herod’s scent is better balanced: that opening of cinnamon and spicy woods combined with pipe tobacco and gourmet vanilla make for an exquisite fragrance where all notes are equally present. Tobacco Vanille remains grand, but Marley’s is the best tobacco and vanilla blend I’ve tried. Still, Tobacco Vanille has many defenders because it’s a beast, and tastes are like colors.
First review on Fragrantica. I live in a small town where finding testers for this type of fragrance is difficult, but while I was in Seville I could try this scent and others, yet I decided to write about this one because it’s so legendary. The opening is super spicy and energetic, giving way to an overwhelming blend of tobacco and vanilla; it could be defined as a hyper-Oriental sweet dessert, just out of the oven. In my opinion, it should be in any collection, and despite the theoretical clones, I’ve never heard anything like it.
So let’s say calling this perfume unisex is like saying a fireman could wear Chanel No. 5; it’s virile, masculine, pure old-school testosterone, nothing for kids. If you wear it, people will address you as ‘Sir’ or ‘Mr.’, not a fresh water scent for daytime. It’s potent, meant for nights or cold weather, smelling like an old lawyer’s office with rugs and mahogany furniture. Good quality, pure scents with character, lots of pipe tobacco and clove, with a decadent air, like a rich grandfather or an old marshal with curly mustaches.
Smells exactly like a chai latte, nothing more, nothing less. I’m thrilled; I can’t wait for winter to use it to its full potential.
Smells like chai, haha. They’re right, it’s very rich. You can feel the vanilla, but the best way to describe it is this: a chai latte.
Very bad; expectations were too high. The Red Tobacco is better!
The fragrance is simple and direct; its DNA is exactly what’s on the label: ‘Tobacco and Vanilla’. One point: it’s not easy to wear or enjoy. I bought it young hoping others would like it, but they didn’t. If you’re between 16 and 21, don’t buy it; look at other options. You’ll see that as you get older, people will understand it more, as it’s sophisticated, elegant, and above all, mature—something impossible when you’re young. But on another note, it’s an exquisite blend of dry vanilla and elegant tobacco always present, among the best from Tom Ford.
One of the worst fragrances I’ve had the luck or misfortune to smell. 🔥
EXQUISITE. Smells like hot chocolate or barley water with a light hint of liquor. It’s masculine but not overly so; it leans more feminine. It doesn’t project much but lasts forever. The notes are incredibly high quality. 10/10.
If you’ve ever played with Play-Doh… this perfume smells exactly like that.
Delicious fragrance. The fruity notes, vanilla, and tobacco stand out, giving it that intoxicating and enveloping touch. Completely unisex. Highly recommended.
Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford features notes of: Tobacco flower Vanilla Clove Tonka bean Ginger Benzoin Spiced notes Anise Coriander Tobacco leaf and Sage. From the boardroom to a day in the park sitting by the lake with your back to the madness of the world around you this fragrance is a modern version of an old-world men’s club. I’ve tried several Tom Ford fragrances and until today only this one Fucking Fabulous and Ombré Leather have pleased me. Actually Tom Ford perfumes aren’t for everyone; almost all are unisex and that’s the detail explaining why I don’t like many of their scents: they start off well-masculine and end up smelling quite feminine. But definitely this Tobacco Vanille is a masterpiece.
It’s a sweet pleasant elegant luxurious and totally unisex aroma. I told a friend it smells like ‘money.’ What I liked most is that despite having that peculiar sweet vanilla it also conveys elegance. 100% recommended. A very good olfactory experience.
My favorite from Tom Ford’s Private Blend: exquisite, sexy, woody, and sweet. Perfect for a winter evening date at a restaurant. It projects strongly, so a full spray is normal, haha. Tom Ford Private Blend line, 10/10.
I tried it on my skin at a perfumery in Biarritz because I usually enjoy dry vanilla and they kindly gave me a miniature. What a terrible memory and what a headache I had all day. Now I know that the tobacco note turns me off no matter where it is… It’s not for me even as a gift but I acknowledge that you must always try fragrances and reach your own conclusions.
I recently had the chance to smell and try this cologne, and I thought it was very good. It’s quite direct in terms of scent, making a great case for its name, Tobacco Vanille, and personally, it reminds me a lot of the rich aroma you get when walking into a tea shop. Great perfume, though quite expensive.
Unlike the negative review below claiming it’s only for smokers and people trying to appear wealthy let me give you my most honest take. This scent is intensely warm essential for autumn and winter especially in winter and at night. The main notes are vanilla like a two-scoop ice cream cone—the most appreciated part—but also a high intensity of tobacco leaf that isn’t vulgar; instead it adds elegance and class. I also detect spices and tonka bean with just a hint of cocoa that’s perceptible. It’s a perfume with great well-executed imitations but I stick with the original for its longevity and base notes that last for hours. The more time passes the more I love it. Now it has a strong sillage: you smell it everyone smells it it’s heavy. If you prefer fresh light scents without projection this isn’t for you. To me it reminds me of a Christmas Eve banquet in Italy in the 1940s where everyone enjoyed vanilla dessert and smoked cigars. It doesn’t smell like cigarette smoke or a cigar; it smells like tobacco leaf more elegant. It’s very warm and intimate; you can feel the power. I’d recommend it for people 28 and up. This perfume has personality so you need to look put-together or you’ll end up looking ridiculous.
Many people told me it was a delight smelling intensely of vanilla and wealth. But I smelled it yesterday and it only reminds me of a smoker. I don’t find it elegant or wealthy at all. On the contrary it seems designed for someone trying to appear that way.
To sum it up, I’ll just say this perfume is a 10 out of 10; it became my favorite, for real. I don’t know how my pH adapted so well, but I couldn’t live without it now—I’m completely fascinated by it.
If it weren’t for the astronomical price, this would almost be my signature. Personally, I highly value that, besides its long-lasting power and sillage, it registers to the nose as a natural scent, not synthetic. If you want sweet chemical bombs, there are the Stronger With You fragrances, but this is on another level.
This is a gem, a perfume with character and a lot of personality, very well made and full of nuances. It grabs you and doesn’t let go, with a very sweet tone. First comes the tobacco—not cigarette tobacco, but sweet pipe tobacco, ambered and honeyed. Alongside it, spices like clove and cinnamon. It gives me an alcoholic sensation, like an amaretto, even though it’s not declared. The opening is potent, dense, even overwhelming if you apply too much, and that’s the part I like least. In the heart, the spices soften, and that gourmand side emerges, making it addictive. The tobacco remains, but covered by creamy vanilla, dessert-like, with bitter cocoa and tonka bean. The scent becomes round, warm, and comforting, losing its initial bite and feeling less masculine, more unisex. In the dry-down, it shows its elegant side: drier, smokier tobacco, more natural vanilla, fusing with woods, resins, and nuts (dates, walnuts, figs). I still detect a hint of amaretto, perhaps from the dates. It smells of luxury and comfort, leaving an elegant trail that’s never cloying if used moderately. It leaves a mark on the wearer and on everyone who smells it. It draws a lot of attention. Longevity: on my skin, it lasts about 10 hours, with marked projection, forming an aura that’s almost perceived for the entire life of the perfume. Occasion: autumn/winter, more for night than day, though versatile. I’d wear it in any weather except summer. In short, Tobacco Vanille commands respect. A masterpiece of spicy gourmand where luxury, warmth, and elegance blend. Not for every day, but when you wear it, you notice. Rating: 9.5.
Excellence in perfume. It stood out immediately upon the first sniff, so I was determined to find it… The price $$$ was what slightly discouraged me; though I’d think that for such velvety, caressing tweaks and aromatic bursts, that cost would be their point of balance. Anyway, from my perspective, I say it’s very good. It’s a refuge of vanilla, wood, and a different tobacco; slightly sweet and bitter. Then come sparks, embers of spices. The tonka bean, with its almond mantle, melts into the coziness, while the tobacco flower is tender, a pale light decorated by smoke. Complementing it at the end is the dregs of the forest, the structure; woods, a robust and serene architecture; adding nuts from an old pantry, the comfort of the old, and the deep, weaving axes in the present, covering with an elegant aura, and so you say, here I am. Cordial greetings.
As a colleague put it, if it weren’t for the price, this would be my signature. The moment I smelled it, I thought: this is how a 30-year-old man must smell, living on the edge of the woods, carving wood and breathing nature. A daring soul seeking life, calm yet intense, in a crisp shirt with a trimmed beard, a pipe, and aged liquor. It smells of high-quality spiced tobacco pipe, and everything I caught transported me to an afternoon in an unknown cabin outside Canada, back in the late 90s. Where life was simple, and treating yourself every now and then didn’t weigh on your wallet.
I love it… liquid gold, but it’s true that the dry down is very vanilla-like, at least on my skin. I only detect that note once the fragrance has settled close to the skin.
Luckily, I belong to the part of the world that adores it. Honestly, I think it’s already part of perfumery history. It arrives and marks a path that many have followed and still follow. A MARVEL!
This fragrance starts as an intense vanilla cream that floods the nose, but don’t let the opening fool you; gradually, a tremendous tobacco scent with woody touches emerges, creating something unique and among the best you’ll find. It projects that warm, luxurious scent for hours, making a great impression on everyone around. 100% for winter, day or night. I could maybe see it in spring, but only at night. As for performance, it lasts over 15 hours on skin, but BE CAREFUL—it depends on your skin. On mine, it started great and lasted forever, but on a friend, it smelled weird from the start and faded quickly with a worse scent. Before buying, check how it plays with your skin. Scent 10/10 Projection 9.5/10 Longevity 10/10 Overall Fragrance 9/10 It would be 20/10 if not for the price.
Elegance, luxury, and Tom Ford quality. I smell a vanilla combined with honey that isn’t even listed in the notes. It’s a sweet perfume, but the tobacco makes it robust… simply perfect for cold weather.
I’ve tested it several times in stores. I get the hype, but it’s not for me. The first time I smelled it, I was hooked because the notes are so well-crafted and high quality. But by the third or fourth time, outside the hype, I realized it’s extremely heavy, becomes annoying, and you get tired of how strong it is. Plus, it’s very expensive. It must be high quality, but I doubt the liquid cost more than 10% of the price. It’s not a bad perfume, just not for me.
Iconic, intense, and seductive. It’s a masterpiece, a rich blend of sweet spices and tobacco that adds warmth. Within minutes, a creamy, enveloping vanilla emerges, mixing with the tobacco to create an addictive accord. In the dry down, there are subtle woody touches, but what really stands out is that sensation of dark nuts; like plum, fig, or dates; which enrich the blend. Even though they aren’t in the official formula, the perception is real and gives it a sophisticated air. The evolution is delicious: the tobacco never leaves, always there as the base. Imagine layering it with Black Phantom: it would be an annihilating combo, reserved for those seeking maximum intensity. It’s perfectly unisex, though you need to enjoy the sweetness to appreciate it. It’s not cloying, but I don’t see it for teens or daily use. It’s more of a perfume for special nights, cold climates, and moments where you want to stand out with elegance. My rating: 9.5/10. An iconic, intense, and seductive fragrance that proves why Tom Ford dominates the art of gourmand.
I made the mistake of buying blind. It’s not a bad perfume, but I expected something different. It smells super feminine with notes of orange, flowers, and tonka bean. I don’t detect the tobacco; I’m not sure if it’s my nose, but I struggle to identify that note (same with CK One Shock). Honestly, I should have bought Costa Azurra, but that’s what happens when you’re too innovative. That said, it has incredible longevity, and since it’s ‘a bit feminine,’ ladies love it and ask what I’m wearing. Please, never wear this in the heat, or you’ll get hated on.
I fell in love with it the first time I tried it, but I don’t recommend a blind buy; better to test it first. Some friends say it doesn’t smell great; the cocoa and tobacco come through quite a bit, but the vanilla fades very quickly. Still, it’s the best one I’ve tried so far.
I’ve been wearing this since 2015. This beast made me smell more masculine than the gym, ties and suits, or even a beard and long hair. Literally, you can’t use more than 6 sprays—not just because it’s a steal, but because it’s so invasive and overwhelming. Still, it’s my go-to for cold days, and I use it to this day.
