Ombre Tonka by Mancera is an oriental woody creation from the olfactory family, designed for men and women. This new fragrance, launched in 2025, has been signed by nose Pierre Montale. Its olfactory pyramid unfolds with top notes of oud wood, pistachio, and bergamot; a heart composed of tonka bean, amberwood, and Mai rose; and a base that evokes benzoin, Madagascar vanilla, and patchouli.

Diabolic. The rough dryness of dry tonka turns sour with an almond and nutty touch, while the woodamber hits hard. It adds sweet benjoi, a shrill oud, and a patchouli that doesn’t help. It’s a witches’ brew of dangerous notes thrown all at once, bringing hell to earth. As it develops, instead of improving, it unleashes a mind-bogglingly foul oud scent. I have no idea what Mancera was thinking with this. They call it ‘Shadow’. No, this is like cooking in the sun trapped in a closed car in the middle of July. It dies quickly, fortunately, leaving behind an almond ghost that is certainly better than everything before it, but it’s nothing.
