Descripción
Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic by Guerlain is an aromatic citrus fragrance for women. Launched in 2007, the nose behind this composition is Marie Salamagne. The top notes reveal clementine, bitter orange, orange blossom, green tea, and ivy; the heart unfolds mandarin, basil, chamomile, and peony; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with sandalwood and amber.

Of the three in this collection, Aqua Allegoria is my favorite and the most unisex; I want it in my closet. I don’t think it’s 100% mandarin, but rather an aromatic citrus fragrance where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I agree with the previous reviewer that it has a special sweetness. I want it!
A cheerful and fresh fragrance, ideal for a day out in the sun. The mandarin is intense at first and then blends with the other citrus, flowers, and more. The bergamots are potent, evoking a blooming citrus. I detect an unlisted violet note. I think it’s unisex and suitable for all ages.
I adore Mandarine Basilic from the Aqua Allegoria line by Guerlain, my favorite from the collection. It’s a scent that gives you energy, light, and life, fresh and uncomplicated, crafted brilliantly with perfectly balanced notes that smell very natural. It’s a simple yet vibrant fragrance, with a touch of countryside under the sun, pure femininity, and a subtle flirtation. In the opening, I smell a fresh, juicy mandarin, as if you just peeled it. As it calms down, the bergamot appears with a touch of peony, followed by a vanilla that blends with the mandarin (not listed on the card, but I can smell it) and finally a sandalwood with amber that adds creaminess. It’s one of the few citrus scents I absolutely love, it has a good trail and longevity, it’s versatile, though not for formal events. 9/10.
The opening is sensational, much more open than other perfumes that close off quickly. You can smell the mandarin, the bergamot, and that greenery that sounds like tree leaves, maybe ivy or basil; I don’t detect the bitter orange, which would be a plus. In the dry down, the herbs dominate, especially the tea. As it settles, it smells like a classic feminine street perfume from the old days, a warm amber with citrus and floral-sweet touches, perhaps peony. Like many, the best part is the opening, but this one keeps the citrus side without dropping in quality, just intensity. It smells musky, and that’s a relief. Performance is average, but at a good price, it’s worth it.
It starts spectacularly and then softens on the skin, but that freshness is what falls in love me.
The opening smells like hard caramelized orange, with that sweet-tart and juicy quality; then it fades and becomes more aquatic, like slightly underripe mandarins but not too sweet, almost like the small, easy-to-peel criollo ones here; overall it’s lovely and reminds me of the real fruit, but it lacks body to be a complete perfume; I like it but it doesn’t convince me to buy it.
It’s wonderful with a good trail, totally citrus and fresh with mandarin, bergamot, basil, and green tea, perfect for sunny days; a luxury perfume.
I loved the scent and trail of Mandarine Basilic when I first applied it, but I don’t feel it lasts on the skin; honestly, I wouldn’t risk buying it.
I wore this today and it reminded me of Arancia di Capri by Acqua di Parma, minus the caramel note that bothers me; I really like it, it has a noticeable trail and lasts at least 6 hours on my skin, which is acceptable for its type; it’s unisex, very fresh and cheerful.
A citrus fragrance with a creamy, sweet twist, more woody than other oranges I’ve tried; it smells great and isn’t bothersome, perfect for hot summer days, but it doesn’t last long on my skin, so I’ll finish this bottle this summer without repurchasing; I enjoyed last year’s Granita de Pera for its trail and longevity, maybe I made a mistake not repeating it; in short, a sparkling, cheerful fresh water in a gorgeous bottle.
Imagine (or do it) peeling a mandarin with your hands; the scent of the juice floats and soaks into your fingers, then you eat the sweet, slightly acidic segments… that’s what it smells like. A very pleasant aroma if you like citrus (I absolutely love them). It smells just of sweet-sour mandarin with the bitter touch of the peel, you also perceive a herbal greenness from the tea, basil, and chamomile. Pleasant for those who love citrus, but its longevity and trail are very low, it’s just for personal enjoyment.
For a while, I was obsessed with finding the perfect citrus fragrance. I bought colognes at vacation spots, but they all vanished in two minutes. Wish I had known this Guerlain one sooner. It’s citrus with a fresh herbal base that balances it out. As simple as it is exquisite. It suggests sunlight streaming through the window, walks in the countryside, pressed shirts, and neatness. It has something tonic, revitalizing, and very refined. The mandarin scent isn’t coarse like airport colognes. It seems like a cologne for anyone: a young girl, an elegant grandmother, or a tidy guy. It’s what well-made things have. Today I saw it at a Druni for 60 euros and it doesn’t seem expensive. Much better than cloying designer perfumes. It’s simple, unpretentious, with a domestic garden aroma that dazzles.
This smells wonderful. A fresh mandarin for the coming summer or before. I recommend it 100%. It looks summery but is very versatile for all year round.
Wonderful cologne. All in the line are special; I chose this one for being fresh with an incredible identity: citrus and herbal. Subtle, cheerful, and great for every day. I use it with the body lotion, bought it in a set, and that way it improves longevity. I’d buy it again without a doubt. Thanks to perfumer Marie Salamagne, very well done.
I thought it would be boring, but it has originality. It lasts quite a while and gives you a punch of energy and good vibes that make you addicted. It’s delicious, even if it doesn’t surprise. Does anyone give up chocolate because they’ve already tried it?
Sweet and refreshing, it lasts a few hours with good projection. Not bad, I’ll try it with another citrus cream to see if it improves a bit. But I’m very happy, I like it.
Mandarin, chamomile, a bitter touch of green tea, and basil. Fresh, invigorating, perfect for hot days. I detect a mint note that isn’t listed. It’s delicious, though it doesn’t surprise. Would I recommend it? Yes, absolutely.
So rich and pleasant! It makes me happy. Sweet without being cloying, fresh, with the basil spot on. I’d buy it many more times.
According to my mom, it’s the best gift I’ve ever given her. I think she’s never talked so much about a perfume 🙂
I love natural scents, and this smells like freshly peeled mandarins: first green and fresh, then sweet like juice. It’s pure joy, perfect for summer. I love it.
It’s glorious, hard to describe. Pure light, sun, and joy. Smells like fresh fruit, green tangerine, balanced between sweet and sour, juicy and perfect. It’s the freshly cut peel and the delicate dewy basil. So natural it even makes you hungry. It’s my favorite of the Aqua Allegoria, undisputed queen. I fell head over heels at the first sniff. It smells like beautiful things. PS: It makes a perfect pair with the bergamot cream from the set; the talc-based base fixes the perfume and improves longevity.
Tangerine Basil is citrusy, aromatic, and herbal. Very pleasant and realistic opening, like real tangerine juice with that natural sweetness, and gradually green and herbal accords with Mediterranean spices emerge, giving it body. As it dries, a shy woody base becomes noticeable, making it more unisex. Ideal for hot days, spring, or summer, fresh and sparkling. Performance is short, barely 5 hours on skin with reduced sillage. Very tasty for citrus lovers and I think it’s unisex, but due to the low longevity, I don’t recommend buying it blind.
Delicious! It’s a sweet citrus cocktail with basil notes, like a mojito. The trail is moderate and lasts 7-8 hours on my skin, which is respectable. I loved it and now I want to try the Forte version and the blood orange and basil cologne by 4711. Rating: Scent 7.5, Longevity 7.5, Sillage 7, Quality/Price 6.5, Versatility 7, Packaging 9.5. Didn’t buy it.
Herbal Tangerine is softer than the Forte, which is a blast of pure tangerine. Here, you get herbal undertones, sandalwood, and amber, but the tangerine remains the star, in your face. I love it this fresh, and the base notes make it elegant, like a tangerine being hugged.
Very soft and doesn’t last long, but that doesn’t bother me; it stays close to the skin after five minutes. I find it more feminine and the ingredients are top-notch. If it lasts three hours for others, I recommend it, but I won’t use it again. I had a decant.
Fantastic, like spraying tangerine juice. On my skin, it lasts forever and you don’t need to apply much, so it’s worth every penny. I already have a second bottle and it’s my summer companion.
I would have bought it without hesitation; it smells divine and no one could dislike it. The only downside is that the longevity is very short for the price.
A top fragrance, fresh tangerine scent with a sweet touch that’s addictive. Short longevity, noticeable unisex vibe, and very popular here in Spain.
I tested the sample on a cloudy day and loved it. I always trust Guerlain, and this Aqua line doesn’t disappoint. It’s super citrusy, transporting you to cutting tangerines in the countryside. Over time, it becomes lighter and clings to the skin. Worth the price, though it sometimes smells a bit like Chanel No. 5 L’Eau.
Smells like a freshly squeezed real tangerine. But it lasts only a breath.
One of the most unisex scents I’ve heard, alongside Sea Sal & Woody Sage by Jo Malone.
This perfume smells exactly what it promises: mandarin, orange, nothing more. In my opinion, if you really like this scent, you’ll probably like it. Personally, I look for more aromas within a single perfume that evoke different smells (not too many, but distinct notes); this smells just like orange/mandarin. I’m from Seville; I love the smell of orange and neroli, reminding me of our spring with bergamot or my autumns picking oranges directly from the trees I have at home. Still, this perfume doesn’t evoke that for me; it evokes the smell left on your hands after peeling an orange, acidic and bitter.
I love it; it’s my second bottle. Deliciously addictive, and in my opinion, quite better than the Forte.
If you like mandarin, this is hyper-realistic. I love it for the heat, but it doesn’t last at all; on me, not even an hour on the skin. What a shame because it’s delicious and refreshing, but you’ll finish the bottle before summer even starts.
I love its scent. It’s a shame it doesn’t last; what a pity.
This perfume is a marvel. The opening gives a beautiful, original accord of mandarin, orange, and bergamot—very refreshing and luminous. Then, basil gradually emerges, adding a green nuance that gains strength until the heart of mandarin and green tea, giving it an aquatic character without being too green since the basil handles that. Plus, very subtle floral notes add distinction. Finally, a creamy, amber-infused sandalwood blended with tea and mandarin, perfectly measured. It’s a complex, evolving fragrance with distinct phases and such smooth transitions you almost don’t notice them, never losing its summery freshness. In terms of longevity, it works perfectly on my skin; the trail lasts about 4 hours, then stays close to the skin for longer, at least 12 hours. I think it’s one of the best mandarin fragrances on the market, perfectly unisex thanks to the basil, with excellent quality and performance.
A very fresh citrus and green scent that instantly puts you in a good mood. The longevity and sillage are moderate.
Way too expensive for what it is. A citrus cologne that could cost a fifth of the price. Sorry, that’s just not for me.
Delicious, tastes like freshly peeled mandarin juice, but it doesn’t last on the skin at all; it feels like cologne water. I don’t recommend it. Instead, buy the Satsuma body mist from The Body Shop; it smells identical for a fraction of the price.
This and the Forte are the most realistic mandarins I’ve ever heard, like holding fresh fruit halfway peeled in your hands. I absolutely love it; as a citrus, it lasts hours on my skin and clothes, even after washing, which speaks to its quality. An absolute must if you like citrus, especially in the heat. It gets sweeter as it dries down but never becomes overwhelming.
