  I’d been dying to try this for days. As a fan of the original, my expectations were sky-high, which might have worked against me. What I found was an unexpected twist: it smells much more masculine and woody than I imagined. There’s an overdose of clean white woods that instantly reminded me of Bois Farine or Il Était Un Bois; it feels like they’ve reused or reinterpreted certain accords from those fragrances. The first 60 seconds are practically identical to the original, almost 95%, but then it transforms completely. I barely detect any pepper, just a hint of incense in the heart, and the bright bergamot of the OG has been replaced by a greener, sharper, slightly more austere neroli. That said, the longevity and projection seem clearly improved, which is a plus. But if you’re expecting a more intense or modern take on the original, this stylistic twist might throw you off. It’s not a bad fragrance (in fact, I think it’s good), but it smells quite different from what OG fans might expect. I’ll keep giving it a chance, this time trying to forget the original and treating it as if it were an independent creation. Maybe I’ll finally appreciate it for what it is, rather than what I expected it to be.
