I like it. It opens with mandarin/orange, then settles into ginger, with noticeable jasmine. There’s a bit of vetiver too. In the dry down, it has an air of DHS 2008. It’s for spring and summer, for daytime wear. Moderate longevity and a soft sillage.
Since Mandarine Glaciale by Atelier came out in 2015, it has surpassed the previous mandarin queen, Bvlgari Aqua Amara from 2014, and eclipsed Clinique Happy for Men from 1999. There’s just one reason: Mandarine Glaciale is ‘pure perfume’ or ‘absolute cologne,’ going beyond the EDT and even the EDP. Plus, Atelier stays true to the hyper-realism of citrus and makes them last longer.
I have a sample of Mandarine Glaciale, and the ginger note on my skin isn’t for me. In my opinion, it’s not fresh; it’s heavy, almost like it’s been macerated, and it overshadows the freshness and sweetness of the mandarin and lemon. The white flowers aren’t noticeable on my skin at all.
I think ACMG smells too much like Dior Homme Cologne and Zara Vibrant Leather Cologne. They’re not the same, but they’re very similar. Since I already own the Zara, I’ll go back and compare Mandarine Glaciale with it and let you know. On the other hand, I don’t get a pure mandarin note in Bvlgari Aqua Amara, whereas I feel it 100% in Hermès Mandarine Ambrée and Prada Infusion Mandarine. Maybe the blend with incense and patchouli gives it a twist that makes me associate it with very bitter orange peel. I already mentioned this in November 2022 alongside the neroli.
