  • I tried it on my skin yesterday and it’s fabulous—sweeter and fruitier than the 2008 EDP. The longevity and projection are generous. I’ve already added it to my wishlist.

  • I found this wild bottle and bought it without hesitation. I didn’t plan to buy Insolence, but the bottle, just like La Petite Robe Noire, looked gorgeous. My first thought was that it smelled like violet candies. It is! My friend brought me Pifarré candies from Spain, and the scent is identical. Guerlain adds interesting nuances; it’s not one-note. At first, it smells fresh and soapy violet, very clean, almost like makeup remover wipes. I detect vanilla, orange blossom, and an acidic note like strawberry that balances the violet. It lasts forever; my sweatshirt still smelled of it the next day. The trail is noticeable but not heavy. Perfect for feeling innocent and fresh. Regarding reformulations: the fear is unfounded. This 2021 version is closer to the original than the ‘bee bottle’ one. Performance is top-notch; I’m going to buy a couple more bottles. Go for it!

  • elenamika

This isn’t Insolence… if they change the formula, they should change the name. My favorite since 2009 is gone, and I bought it again. The last version with its fancy bottle is much softer and less characterful than the old one, which was vibrant and sharp. Now it smells good but doesn’t project or last three hours without a trace. I was disappointed.

  • Gemasevilla

It’s a very fine and delicate fragrance; you need to know how to wear it. Just two or three sprays on the neck are enough to feel the powdery violets for hours. If you overdo it, you turn this luxury into something vulgar.

  • Dama Incognita

I’ve had this perfume in my collection for a while. I just picked up the 2021 Les Legendaires version and don’t notice much change, unlike others that have gone downhill. It’s still that sweet, powdery violet I love so much.

  • darlenerock

If you’re in Argentina and walked into PUMA, you know exactly what this version smells like. If you like it, go for it… but for me, it was a resounding NO.

  • LorenaLorelay

I had to try this classic! The opening is strong on violets but without that plastic smell; pure quality. Soon the vanilla sweetness hits, leaving an elegant vibe like natural strawberry and vanilla candies. Hours later, you notice the tonka. If you forget you’re wearing it, a floral talcy note reminds you of Insolence. Lasts at least 8 hours. If you like violets, this is the prettiest one.

  • LosPerfumesDeJavi

I became such a fan that I bought the bottle, but it’s so sugary it didn’t suit me; it looked better on my 22-year-old sister. It smells like caramelized violets, super cheerful, and has a massive trail lasting over 10 hours. I love the new bottle, even though the scent is the same as always—a nice touch from Guerlain.

  • Finally, a perfume that surprised me in a good way. At first, it smells like lilac flowers with a touch of talc and violet candies. Then the temperature drops, vanilla and tonka rise, smelling of candied almonds, not nutmeg. It lasts about 10 hours and projects well. It’s delicate, perfect for autumn afternoons or cool nights. Pleasant and original: 7/10.

  • What a marvel! It smells like the violet candies from the little round box 💜, it fixes very well, it’s strong, lasts a long time on the skin, and projects quite a bit. Over time, it becomes powdery and sweet.

  • Travelers to the train! For those who cherish the memory of violet candies from childhood, hop on board. This perfume is the best possible poetic reinterpretation of those typical Madrid sweets. It’s clean, with an intense violet aroma but without being coarse. Quite sweet without being cloying or gourmand, and powdery like its luxurious makeup, yet not too retro; the combination with red berries gives it a modern twist, making it totally current. If Prada works miracles with iris, Guerlain’s violet accord doesn’t fall behind. Among its versions, I prefer the Eau de Parfum, where the powdery notes and violet stand out more strongly, and its lilac liquid is already an invitation to dream. The Eau de Toilette opens with more dominant and lighter fruity notes, with a pink hue that makes it distinct. Insolence EDP is a very particular scent, difficult to turn into a signature and not for everyone… and that’s how it should be, exclusive and personal, for those who know how to choose their own path.

  • Perla Vencis

I came to this version out of nostalgia for the original Insolence EDP from 2008. I could never find that version again; the bottle was divine. Each has its essence, but this retains much of its ‘mother.’ I’m fascinated that from the start, the violets are accompanied by orange blossom, what a beautiful combination! They blend with the sandalwood. On my skin, the vanilla isn’t sweet; it’s just there to accompany the flowers. Unlike other reviews, for me, it’s not a sweet scent. This fragrance is addictive; I love wearing it and smelling it. Although I used to wear it as a signature, now I only take it out in autumn and winter; I think it develops better in those seasons.

  • I finished the 2017 bottle, so I bought this to replace it. I don’t know if they changed the formula, but on my skin, it feels like they’ve lowered the intensity quite a bit 🙁

  • I had very high expectations because I love La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Toilette, but when I put it on, I only felt super powdery violets. I also noticed white flowers. With this perfume, I realized that I definitely don’t like violets. It lasted more than 12 hours on my skin even after showering. I ended up gifting it.

  • If you love violets, this is your perfume… wonderful! And with an impressive sillage and longevity…

  • What a beautiful, feminine, and sophisticated aroma. Sweet, fruity, and powdery violets. Its dry-down is the best. I confess that at first, its opening didn’t impress me; it was neutral, but after 20 minutes, that scent fell in love with me, and I went for more. Over 12 hours on skin and clothes. What magical beauty.

  • Isaesparza

I just have to say: what a beautiful perfume. I love it; it’s gorgeous and I’ve been wearing it for years—it’s one of my all-time favorites. It smells like those little violet candies with four pieces (if you’re from Mexico, you’ll know them): sweet violets with a touch of powderiness from the iris. Since I love violets like this, I love this perfume, which is all about them.

  • Gatitomalbado

Guerlain had an incredible ability to create fragrances that conveyed old-world luxury and elegance. Some, like Shalimar, remain current; others seem stuck in a dressing room from a century ago, but all conveyed that hard-to-find status today. From the box to the scent, everything said it was worth the price. I don’t know what happened between Insolence Original (2006) and Mon Guerlain (2017), but something changed. The house tries to revive its classics in Les Légendaires, but they couldn’t replicate the exact scents; critics said they distorted them, without realizing nothing stays the same. The important thing was capturing the spirit and essence, and I think they succeeded. They bring back that aura of something well-made, not just for the price but for the quality. Insolence EDP takes me to the dressing room of an English lady from the Regency or early Victorian era. Not French, because then France was busy with Napoleon and had no time for young ladies strolling in the countryside. I imagine a girl, no longer a child but not quite a woman, walking through family lands in a loose, light dress, too informal for court. The sun, shy after a rainy night, revitalizes the earth and releases mysterious aromas. It reflects in her hair, where she carries a sprig of perfumed violets she picked up along the way. She smiles upon finding wild strawberries and eats a few. Insolence has that old-world touch thanks to the iris and violet, the two notes that carry the rest. It has an optimistic and cheerful character due to the strawberry and bergamot, and a creamy, slightly sweet base from the sandalwood and Guerlinade. It’s romantic, not like today, but like the Romantic movement of its time: emotions over reason, melancholy above all, joy only to accentuate happy memories because, according to the Romantics, everything good has already passed. Nostalgia and joy in remembering are what it evokes for me. I see it for spring and autumn, though a damp, cool summer day would suit it well, or all year round in cool, rainy cities like Bogotá. It’s too floral for winter and unbearable in heat, because the violet becomes sweeter and almost sticky with the heat, causing headaches. I only recommend it to those who already know they like powdery violet. If you’re not sure, better to abstain, because there are no middle grounds here. It lasts longer than Estée Lauder, which is much appreciated in such intense fragrances.

  • Natalia RC

My favorite violet scent is that super powdery and delicious one, like a rich girl from the Belle Époque. If you love violet notes from start to finish, feminine, innocent, and elegant perfumes (that shabby chic style), give it a try. It lasts about 6 hours, projecting strongly for the first hour, then settles into a pleasant sillage that everyone notices. I’ll never run out of this.

  • BeatrizBlackwood

Bottled delicacy, ultra-feminine. Here we have a perfume that balances the old with the contemporary, I perceive it as romantic. For Pride and Prejudice fans, this perfume would go on Georgiana, Darcy’s sister. Very delicate fragrance with excellent projection.

  • I know the three versions: the original was a creation of a dark, sweet, and dry violet, very mature and of overwhelming power; the second in the honey jar had been toned down a bit, it was more powdery, especially they had boosted the iris a lot, but it was still very respectable; this last one is a sweet violet soap, on my nose it’s much cleaner, less powdery, more floral, and much weaker. I can’t stand this endless exercise of reformulating good creations and in the attempt to ‘modernize’ them they only lower them and make them more commercial.

  • I love perfumes with violet, iris, and talcum notes… but I CAN’T with this one, it’s too strong. It’s borderline nuclear. Plus, it gives me a very, very outdated vibe.

  • Diana Jaimes

This perfume smells like those sugar-coated sweets shaped like hearts in pastel colors. I don’t consider it youthful but neither outdated; it highlights the floral and talcum notes but isn’t the typical grandma smell. I tried it yesterday and I’d say it has a moderate trail and even after a shower you can still smell it close to the skin. I have to mention that at first (the first hour) I barely perceived any scent, but suddenly it was there and definitely it’s not subtle.

  • It finally arrived today!! What a beautiful scent!! Ethereal, like a being from another dimension, more subtle. I loved it!! Feminine, delicate.. truly precious 💜

  • The first time I smelled Insolence was at university with its original 2008 round bottle presentation; I never forgot it. I was impressed that a soft scent could be so strong; it evoked a powerful and sexy aura in me, I loved it, but at 18 I wouldn’t have been able to wear it. At 35 I decided to get it and it was a whole experience; at first I felt disappointment not because it was less potent, but because the first sprays smelled only of makeup powder, but I learned about maceration and that’s when the magic came. After a month, Insolence returned to having the DNA I remembered: less potent, without that tender and dark combination of before, but equally beautiful. I love it, it makes me feel empowered, although it’s more softly feminine, which gives it versatility. It smells like slightly powdered violet candies, but nothing childish. The trail is moderate and lasts about 4-5 hours, maybe more since I’m testing it again. Something to note is that my skin is dry and that affects the longevity. My big dilemma is when to use it? Because although I love it, I have a memory of that sexy and powerful perfume for unique occasions, and part of me refuses to use it for everyday wear.

  • When I was little, I bought little transparent boxes of violet candies that tasted EXACTLY LIKE this perfume. If you like those candies, I understand you have to like this perfume too lol. Associating it with my childhood, I think it smells a bit childish to me. That said, it smells from afar and I’d say it camouflages any other scent lol incredible. I tried it at the perfumerie and showed it to my boyfriend, he gave it a 7.4 🙈

  • It smells like those powdered violet candies with sugar, the kind that came in metal tins. It’s a delicious and pleasant aroma, though quite heavy; I’d use it in cold climates. It’s a personal taste perfume, cozy, that accompanies without invading as long as we’re cautious with sprays. As always, Guerlain is for tastes that go against the norm. It smells classic and refined, very feminine.

  • LucyInTheSky

This version of Insolence has disappointed me quite a bit. I’m one of the lucky ones who owns the 2006 edition with the flower-shaped bottle; its longevity and projection were overwhelming—you had to be careful not to overapply or you’d get dizzy and the room would feel heavy. The same salesperson told me once she wore it to a recital and people moved away because it was so strong. With this version, I apply it and can’t even smell it on myself anymore; it doesn’t last more than 4 hours on me, and little remains of what this great perfume used to be. The scent is rich but different from the original. Anyway, very sad to be honest 💔

  • I fell in love at first sight thanks to violet lovers’ recommendations and bought it without hesitation. However, I have to admit it hurts a bit to see others say the old formula was more intense and long-lasting. That’s the only thing that disappoints me; I expected a violet, iris, and vanilla bomb, but the result is much more muted. Still, the positive is that it’s now more wearable year-round. Right now, in spring, it smells like a freshly made violet candy, but I miss that potency. If you like sweet, floral scents with a magical touch, you’ll enjoy it, even if you need to reapply occasionally 😉

  • kota_khaleesi

I tried this perfume because I was looking for a violet scent, similar to Ultraviolet, which is my signature fragrance. I tested it on my arm, and yes, you can feel many powdery, vintage-style violets; I didn’t like it at all. The scent stuck to my skin all day and was really unpleasant. I had to wash my arm very well, and I still felt the smell. It seemed like a very strong old-lady and cemetery smell. What a disappointment! The price was extremely high; luckily I didn’t buy it blind.

  • laila5840

What a gorgeous fragrance, for real, it’s going to become one of my favorites! It’s such a rich, bold, feminine, and delicious fragrance; I doubt anyone would be bothered smelling something so delicious. I don’t know why it reminds me of Jean Paul Gaultier Classic; they share only four notes, but it’s truly so rich, it’s completely worth it, I’d buy it again.

  • TaeInBloom

What a beautiful perfume! It comes out super potent with an aquatic violet, accompanied by a sweet berry-like fruit and, according to my nose, something leathery. That projection and intensity last a good 2 to 3 hours. Then the scent drops significantly and the powdery iris phase starts to be felt, reducing the violet’s intensity and revealing the warmth of coumarin and vanilla. I like the dry-down much more because that leathery tone disappears and you feel that little pill-like thing, though it stays for personal enjoyment. Excellent longevity, more than 9 hours on skin and hair. On fabric, no need to say, my scarf still smells like Insolence after 4 days. Something crazy happened to me; I felt it very similar to LVEB Elixir; if you try both, you’ll understand. Maybe that leather I perceive is due to the violet note. Perfume bomb! It gives a bit of a vintage vibe at first, but very modern in the dry-down.

  • La Clochard

At first, it has a scent that for me doesn’t fit well and doesn’t fully convince me, something intense. By the hour, it changes completely; those notes fade and it reminds me a lot of Prada Infusion d’Iris, which I like, probably because of the iris. I like it much more in this phase. Try before buying and keep in mind that it changes a lot after the first hour. The violet becomes very subtle and integrated, but if you want to notice it more, keep in mind that that note doesn’t last long.

  • Ugh, I’m not sure how to say it, but it smells delicious. It’s very mystical in a sweet way; the description is almost perfect of how I imagined the word ‘whimsical’. It has a vintage touch, nothing old-fashioned, more youthful and playful, reminding me of the sweet and powdery fragrances of the Belle Époque in Paris. Watch out, it’s a bit strong; I recommend spraying it only 1 or 2 times and avoiding it in the heat, because I feel like I’d get dizzy. Regarding the ‘clean’ part, I wouldn’t say it’s exactly that, maybe a bit in the opening, but it’s very faint compared to the rest. It might give the impression of soap due to common floral notes, but it doesn’t smell like a bar, more like fairies bathing in an enchanted forest with red berries and purple flowers; bubblier than soapy. And no baby powder, it’s much more complex. With this perfume, you can imagine an entire dreamlike landscape.

  • Beautiful and extremely potent. I have a very sensitive nose, so I usually don’t use more than three sprays of any perfume. With this one, I had to use the technique of spraying and walking in front of myself, because my coworkers can smell it from three meters away if I spray my neck and wrists (let alone on clothes). It’s very peculiar and not everyone likes it, so I don’t recommend it for daily wear if you don’t want to draw attention. I love the smell, but I don’t always dare to wear it because it’s so noticeable. You have to be a bit of a rebel to wear this.

  • It starts with a violet that reminds me of the Halloween one or Kenzo Flower, but as time passes, it gets closer to what I loved about the EDT in the big round bottle. This one is very nice, but the other is so much sparklier. This one has a bit more of a vintage vibe.

  • I always saw reviews, searched for dupes in stores, and nobody wore it… seeing the TikTok reviews really traumatized me, but I was scared to buy the original in case I didn’t like it. I thought, ‘well, what’s done is done, no risk, no reward.’ So I bought it. What do you think? I hated it. It’s not that bad, it just reminded me of a grandma’s closet. Opening it smells like mint and flowers, something strange but clean. I think I’m going to sell it; it’s not for everyone’s nose. I suggest smelling it before buying because it’s a somewhat weird scent.

  • Patricia 3881

It’s a work of art and sits in my top 5. It smells like sweet violets, as if flowers and candies were mixed together, with very subtle hints of red berries wrapped in a powdery cloud that gives it mystique and elegance. It has so much personality that you only wear it if you identify with its scent, not to fit it into a specific occasion. For me, it’s evocative and has the power to make me feel good just by spraying and enjoying its magic.

  • weirdquartz

I’d been wanting to buy this for months and finally got it. I don’t know how to explain how good it smells… Wearing it is like standing in a field of violets on a late spring afternoon while eating a strawberry cake (literally). The opening is peculiar, a slightly acidic or freshly cut violet; then that acidity fades and you notice the iris and red berries, with a light fruity vanilla afterwards. These last notes are subtle compared to the strength of the violets and iris, so if you don’t like them, don’t even try it. It’s super versatile, for day or night, casual or elegant, dates, college, or work. It looks incredible as a signature scent.

  • I found it by chance and also picked up a good dupe. If there’s a perfume with a proper name, it’s this one: it’s BOLD, UNAPOLOGETIC. If it were a person, they’d be an extrovert by essence, not because they’re loud or rude; on the contrary, they have softness and delicacy but with a presence that turns heads. Violets usually bore me because they’re powdery and vintage, but the power and character of this have nothing to do with that. I’d wear it all year, except in heat or humidity. I picture it with a white dress at a vineyard lunch, or with a leather jacket, heels, and a white shirt at a bar. It’s versatile, but as they say, it has a lot of personality and you need to know how to wear it. ATTITUDE is what rules here.

  • Strange perfume. You can tell it’s high quality, no doubt about it. Still, a coworker used it and said it’s quite invasive. Personally, I like the scent, but I understand that if it’s not your thing (it’s sweet, violet-ish, etc.), it can be quite annoying to others. One spray is enough.

  • Francescarobeni

I thought it would be soft and adorable, but it’s the OPPOSITE. It’s very strong, a scent with character and maturity. The only notes I perceive are violet to the point of being powdery. It’s like a punch to the nose due to the intensity; it’s not bad but definitely not for me, although I tried giving it chances and nothing changed. It lasts a long time, the trail is moderate, and the price is high; maybe it’s worth it if you like this type of fragrance. My mother loved it, saying it’s similar to one she had when she was young, so she was happy. Personally, I don’t like it at all; it smells like violet floor cleaner to me. But tastes vary.

  • Franz Xavier, it’s feminine, but I think you wear it, not the perfume, so if you’re a man, it can work too. It’s not super feminine; it smells clean, a bit like a pharmacy but sweet; I don’t think it would go badly on a guy.

  • They say it smells like pharmacy candies and I like violet and iris, but I’m a man. Is it really too feminine? Or could it be considered unisex?

  • ‘Insolence’? Absolutely. Insolence is the contrast between sweet candies and powdery violets. It’s the olfactory experience that transports us to the palatial life of another century. I love it; it’s an intimate fragrance of sensual exuberance. Trail and longevity are very good. I can’t stop buying it!

  • SeekerofHugs

I can’t handle this perfume. I was gifted it and had so many expectations. I’d never heard of it, but seeing the reviews made me very intrigued. What a disappointment for my taste. It’s very subjective; I’m writing what I feel. I don’t like it, even though I like violets. I tried it with an open mind in autumn and winter, but it overwhelms me. The sweetness is excessive; it gives me headaches and nausea. I smell violet gummies or candies, and I don’t like smelling like that. I don’t feel it’s a natural floral, but rather synthetic, with lots of sugar, like a sugary violet and grape air freshener. I have a childhood memory of my mother washing the car and leaving a card with air freshener that made me feel sick; it smells exactly the same. I admit it lasts quite a bit on skin—I applied very little, and by late afternoon/night I could still smell it. I don’t recommend it blindly; it’s a fragrance with personality, not a safe gift. It’s purely feminine, not unisex. It smells like a candy, not a gourmand dessert. It has body and is particular. I’d wear it on fresh, cold days with few sprays, but never in the heat.

  • SeekerofHugs

I tried it a couple of years ago and it didn’t excite me; it got stuck in my throat. I found it too powdery, strong, and even mature. I tried it again recently thanks to a coworker and oh my! it’s gorgeous! ‘Insolence’ is the epitome of a powdery sweet violet. A perfect blend of iris and violet. It’s simple and linear, but delicious. It reminds you of famous violet candies or lipsticks. MAGICAL CREATURES, FLUFFY CLOUDS, AND FAIRY DUST! It’s melancholic, hypnotic, delicate, clean, innocent, bold, and sophisticated. Ultra feminine. A timeless classic. It has a medium trail and impressive longevity, easily 8 hours on me. Yes, I’d buy it, but only this version with the bees. If I can’t get it, I’ll look for an equivalent because the current one has terrible performance; it doesn’t last at all. I’d feel ripped off buying it.

  • I have the version in the photo, the 2017 one. Be careful because they changed the packaging now and say they reformulated. I like it a lot, though I don’t recommend buying blindly unless you really love violets. At first, you feel fresh and powdery violets, and as it develops, it gets sweeter. There are no red berries. I feel it’s a fragrance from another era, not old, but something a young woman would wear in the 1800s, with a ‘charmed’ touch, very delicate, feminine, and with presence (though I wouldn’t describe it as strong). Innocent, sweet and powdery violets. I’m glad to have it in my collection because it’s different, though I don’t consider it essential. I’d rate the scent 7/10; it has a low trail with 1.30 hours of projection, and where it shines is in longevity: even at 8 hours, it’s perceptible on the skin. I got this version cheap (50 ml for less than 9000 pesos in October 2022). If you find it cheap, share it because they say the new reformulated version has very low longevity (2-4 hours) and this one exceeded my expectations.

  • Javiera1989

I love its composition. It’s a beautiful, feminine, youthful scent. It reminds me of a pleasant spring afternoon, but it doesn’t last at all. It also doesn’t have an important trail; it doesn’t reach more than a few centimeters. Quite expensive for the longevity. I suppose it was reformulated, because I had the previous bottle (a gift from my mom when I was a teenager) and it lasted 6-8 hours with a significant trail. I love it, but it doesn’t represent me because it would mean constantly reapplying it, and it also doesn’t come to Chile in wallet size.

  • Yuyusita7

What strikes me is that they say it’s soft. The beginning seems very pleasant to me, but over time it becomes very strong, a bit sharp and sweet. People around me say the scent is potent. I’m not sure if I still like it; I’ve had it for a few days, but I adore Guerlain perfumes and I’ll give it a chance.

  • Second week in and I’m already hooked: it’s soft, delicate, and brings me peace. It doesn’t have much of a sillage, so I don’t get the initial ‘Insolence’ hype, but the longevity is something else: it lasts hours on the skin and days on clothes. That’s its insolence, showing up when you least expect it. It’s like a pleasant surprise, a memory that catches you off guard. I choose perfumes based on how they make me feel: I wear ‘Libre Intense’ to feel commanding, but ‘Insolence’ to feel feminine, delicate, and at peace.

  • yesteves

I love it. My least favorite part is the opening; you don’t feel that rich violet-caramel scent at first, but once it settles, it’s exactly that. I don’t detect the red berry note. Even though the opening is less appealing, it holds up, though it fades quickly. I’m from Madrid, and here those caramels are typical; it smells just like the violet caramels sold in local shops. I adore it with all my heart.

  • What did they do with the reformulation? The old bee and flower versions lasted forever. This new one, even when applied well, doesn’t last more than two hours. They’ve turned something that worked into a watery violet mess at the same price. No way am I buying it again when I run out. What a shame.

It smells like vintage aroma, not old; it’s pleasant, though I’m not sure what it reminds me of exactly. On my skin, it’s very soft: I notice the violets, a little sweetness, and white flowers. I don’t know those sweet violets they’re referring to, but if they smell like perfume… how beautiful.

  • Lady Spritz

I tried it a couple of years ago and it didn’t excite me; it felt stuck in my throat, very cloying and strong. I tried it again thanks to a colleague, and wow, how beautiful it is! It’s the epitome of a sweet, powdery violet—a perfect blend of iris and violet. It’s simple and linear, but delicious. It reminds you of violet candies or lipstick. Magical creatures, fluffy clouds, and fairy dust! It’s melancholic, hypnotic, delicate, clean, innocent, bold, and sophisticated. Ultra-feminine. A timeless classic. It has moderate sillage and impressive longevity, about 8 hours. I would buy it, but only this version with the bee bottle; if I can’t get it, I’ll look for something else because the current one has terrible performance and doesn’t last at all.

  • Lady Spritz

I love it! The opening is the least favorite part because it doesn’t smell like caramelized violets at first, but once it settles, it’s exactly that. I don’t detect any red berry notes at all. Even though the opening is a bit annoying, it fades quickly. In Madrid, these candies are super typical and smell just like the ones in stores. I adore it with all my heart ❤️

  • Eli_k_eli

I can’t handle this perfume. I was gifted it and had so many expectations after reading the reviews, but what a disappointment. It’s very subjective, but I just didn’t like it. Even though I like violets, this scent overwhelms me, even in winter. The sweetness is excessive and gives me headaches and nausea. It smells like synthetic violet gummy candies, full of sugar and grape notes, like a car air freshener. I remember when I was a kid, at car washes, that air freshener card made me feel sick; it smells exactly the same. I acknowledge it lasts quite a while on the skin, but I don’t enjoy it. It’s not for warm weather, at most a cool spring day with light sprays. It’s feminine, has personality, and isn’t a fail-safe gift.

  • I loved it! On my skin, I detect talc-like violets with a sweet touch. The longevity is brutal: about 8 hours on the skin and even longer on clothes. Sillage 8/10, longevity 10/10, packaging 10/10. 😍 I’ll definitely buy it again. 😍

  • Naluapilar

Sip, violet candies, a memory I loved as a child. So precious, though I’m not sure if I’ll wear it out or keep it for enjoying at home. It feels deliciously vintage, not old-fashioned but nostalgic and very romantic. It reminds me of some Guerlain meteorites that also smelled of violet. Thinking about it, after a few hours, I’m going to enjoy it to the fullest. The name ‘Insolence’ fits perfectly: wearing something so beautiful it seems from another century requires a certain insolence, and that gives it modernity. Beautiful.

  • Eli_k_eli

I’ve been wearing it for months, and it’s my favorite. It’s not for everyone; it has character. It smells of violet and caramel, very sweet but elegant. The bottle is pretty, and the longevity is good, about 6-7 hours on clothes and skin. I wear it to go out, and it makes me feel special. It’s not a common scent, which I like. Sometimes I notice a touch of red berries, but violet predominates. It’s a perfume that accompanies you all day without tiring you out. I recommend it if you’re looking for something sweet but classy. The price is fair for the quality. I love it every time I use it; it’s like a hug in the form of a scent. I would definitely buy it again without hesitation. It’s my winter perfume, and I also use it in spring. The sillage is pleasant; it doesn’t invade too much. In short, it’s a jewel worth trying. I feel safe and feminine with it. It’s a classic that never goes out of style. I’ve had it in my collection for a long time, and I always look forward to using it. It’s my go-to perfume. I recommend it to all girls looking for something sweet and elegant. It’s my favorite of all the perfumes I’ve tried. It never disappoints. It always smells delicious and lasts long. It’s a perfect gift for any occasion. I love sharing it with my friends. It’s a perfume that makes you feel good about yourself. I wear it to work and dates. It’s versatile and elegant. I love its violet and caramel aroma. It’s a perfume that accompanies you at all times. I recommend it to all girls looking for something sweet and elegant. • Haha, ‘violet candies’ exactly as is. I’m testing it on a decant and it takes me back to childhood. I liked those candies, but I’m not a huge fan of the scent. You have to love it because these are very ‘insolent’ violets, too present for what I tolerate. So I don’t think I’ll buy the bottle.

  • It smells like violet candies. Just that. A very rich and addictive aroma. It doesn’t captivate me, but it’s very rich.

  • Maru Maru

I’m not a perfume expert, but the violet and cherry scent is exquisite. I fell in love with it as soon as I bought it. It’s not a common scent and I like that; it draws a lot of attention and generates many compliments. The best part is that not everyone knows it, and it’s a privilege to smell like Insolence.

  • I’ve been using it for weeks and I ENJOY it. It’s soft and delicate, giving me a sense of peace. It doesn’t have much sillage (I usually prefer loud ones), so I didn’t get the ‘Insolence’ name at first, but its longevity is incredible: it lasts hours on my skin and days on my clothes. That’s where the insolence comes in—appearing when you least expect it. It’s like a pleasant memory that evokes beautiful feelings. I wear it to feel feminine and at peace, while for a more imposing vibe, I prefer something else.

  • I’ve been wearing this since December as a gift from my boyfriend, and I absolutely love it. I’m not a perfume expert, so I don’t worry about technical notes; what I notice is a powerful violet scent that smells delicious. It conveys that strong, bold personality the name suggests, but without being old or stale—it has a sweet touch. The bottle is gorgeous, identical to the photos, with that velvet finish that just makes me fall in love.

Reformulating without warning and selling me a cat when I wanted a hare is unacceptable, but Insolence stole my heart. It’s a dark, feminine fragrance—a sweet/bitter and floral/woody contrast that breaks all the rules. Thanks to insolent, velvet-like sweet violets combined with red fruits and wood, it has a strong, unique personality. Original, intense, and memorable, with monumental projection and sillage.

  • Guerlain Insolence is luxury in a bottle: powdered violets over sandalwood. It seems simple, yet it’s elegant and complex, one of the treasures in my collection. Maybe you don’t like violets or the new bottle, and the performance has dropped, but if this composition were a woman, she’d be a breathtaking beauty, bold and eternal. It deserves a try for its timeless, luxurious quality that brings you closer to the sublime. The performance is unmatched: two sprays last 10 hours with notable projection. Ideal for lovers of refinement and art.

  • INSOLENCE EDP is a bold gem: iris, violets, and raspberries with powdery touches. It opens with red fruits and sweet flowers where violet and iris reign, giving it distinction. The base of wood, sandalwood, and tonka bean creates a fragrance with great personality, excellent longevity, and sillage. It’s strong and sweet, leaving a mark. Plus, I’m happy to have the original bottle by sculptor Serge Mansau, who designed many beautiful Guerlain flacons.

  • The opening is beautiful, though it can be invasive. Fragrantica’s description is good, but I’d say it’s a bit more woody than sweet and much more intense than the current edition. It’s a violet soliflore with flattering nuances and very feminine. If you layer it with Santal 33, the violet is amplified and becomes incredibly unisex and enigmatic; with this layering, I’ve received many compliments.

  • I feel lucky to have the original formula, almost new; it lasts nearly 20 hours on skin, which is incredible. I don’t get it: the current bottle has nothing to do with the perfume. The new formula smells different; the original is very sweet violets with little wood until the end, then it becomes more powdery. Happy with the gift, I think violets are undervalored, and it’s magnificent to smell them without being outdated. Note: not for summer because it’s overwhelming; it’s for autumn and winter at night.

  • For years it was my signature, impressive that everyone would ask what I was wearing. Projection and longevity of 24 hours without issues, an overwhelming performance. Pity they reformulated it, and that’s where its charm ended. It still smells good, but the new version has nothing to do with this one.

  • I bought it in a lovely mini bottle with an inverted heart cap, and as I already knew, I didn’t like it and paid a lot. I promised myself it would be my last perfume and I’m making a list for another one I’ll actually like. This perfume business is weird, isn’t it?

  • ROCOCÓ is the epitome of violets and talc. It sparkles between violet caramel and an overflowing florist shop. Purple opulence, no discretion. The perfume of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. It has something vintage, a classic dressing room aroma, yet it’s current. A balance between an imperishable violet drawn in a dazzling way. If I were a film director, I’d be Baz Luhrmann, with saturated details and flowers, running from silence. It generates love or hate, but to me, being different from the usual, I love it. It’s a faithful portrait of Guerlain’s historical essence and its makeup.

  • Another Guerlain hit: Insolence. I have the vintage bottle and the relaunch. There are differences, but that’s left to trained noses. Incredible longevity and that childhood nostalgia. My doctor friends say Insolence is kids’ cologne made into perfume. Here in Cuba, they used to perfume little kids with low-alcohol violet colognes. A magical essence and an absolute representative of violet fragrances.

  • This scent confuses me; I still haven’t decided if I love it or if it bothers me. It’s violets, like they shove a whole bunch right in your nose, with sharp red fruits. The opening reminds me of a soda, delicious and potent, but it lasts, and when you expect it to fade, it keeps going until it becomes annoying; on me, it causes salivation like eating dark, acidic grapes, between sweet and sour. As I move, I smell it with every step. Over time, it softens, that new-doll scent everyone talks about comes through, and it becomes more bearable. Really delicious but very strong. As a solution, I try layering it with vanilla; the opening is less intense, but I feel guilty for trying to mess with a jewel like this. Generous sillage, moderate to heavy longevity.

  • lauraaaaa86

I won’t be as technical as others. Simply put, I absolutely adore this scent. Those powdery violets, those old-fashioned caramels… I don’t know, but I can’t believe there are people who don’t like it, even though there are. It definitely deserves a try; please let your senses enjoy it.

  • I had been searching for a violet fragrance for years, all powdery and nostalgic for an old era I love but my husband hates, always reminding him of a grandmother. When I bought Insolence, it exceeded my expectations: it’s a sensual, sweet, cloying violet. My husband liked it, but I loved it. I think women who usually like this type of perfume often end up hating it. It’s not a generic scent; its trail and longevity are quite heavy. If you like violet and powerful, characterful perfumes, this is yours.

  • Chikis220373

Far from delicious, on the contrary, it smells like when I used to smell my dolls’ cheeks as a child, which is irritating if you smell it continuously. I bought it based on reviews and I’m quite regretting it. It lasts about 4 hours on my skin, but I don’t think I’ll use it again. It disgusts me quite a bit. Think twice before buying it: it’s just coarse violets that blast into your nose like a foul bomb. That said, I respect everyone’s tastes.

  • I tried the new bottle, which looks quite ugly, but I went for the scent. Okay, it doesn’t smell bad, but it didn’t work for me; it’s sweet but a common smell. It does last, but I wouldn’t buy it. Regarding those who like it, it could be the weather, pH, etc.

  • Betty Love

I had the perfume a while ago, and it ran out a few months ago. My boyfriend gave it to me as a surprise, and what a surprise when I realized they had changed the bottle. I had doubts about its formula, but NO! Girls, the scent is still the same. Personally, I love it. If the bottle doesn’t do justice to the original, what matters to me personally is the essence, and it remains the same.

  • The same thing happened to me as in the previous review. I rushed to buy it. The lilacs invade my nose. Even though I love powdery perfumes, this isn’t my favorite.

  • Insolence EDP, undoubtedly a standout perfume. As the previous review says, they are caramelized violets. On my skin, I feel a sweet violet, with the powdery touch of iris and the sweetness of tonka bean. I truly find it wonderful. I’ve worn it two days in a row and it has me hooked. Highly recommended for violet lovers.

  • Manuela Monteiro

It’s a dazzling scent. Caramelized, powdery violets. Very sophisticated. It lasts, and lasts, and lasts on my skin. It’s very sweet. I must admit it’s not for every woman. Excellent trail and longevity, as with everything from Guerlain. I think it’s one of my favorites. It’s romantic but insolent, knowing how to stand out. You’ll never go unnoticed because it’s unusual. It’s a captivating scent, like honey to bees. It’s imposing. It’s Guerlain.

  • Ssilvinabent

The first time I applied this perfume, I noticed a resemblance to two fragrances: Flower by Kenzo and the floral phase of Ralph. It felt like an overwhelming and slightly grating explosion of flowers. Flower is very balanced; this scent has a floral predominance that I particularly dislike; it’s cloying and exaggerated. However, the longevity and projection are beastly; when I wear it, everyone says how rich it smells. Since I’m not interested in pleasing others, I wouldn’t buy it again; I’ll finish what I have and move on. Something peculiar is that after several hours, it leaves a dried flower scent on my skin. Scent: 3. Projection: 9. Longevity: 9.

  • Jesica La Roja

In response to Black Orchid and Pía Ramírez, it seems there was a rights issue with the bottle; Guerlain lost a lawsuit against a design house and had to withdraw it. The current packaging looks vintage because it follows the lines of Guerlain’s iconic bottle, known as ‘the bee bottle,’ created by Jean Baptiste Guerlain for Empress Eugenia de Montijo in 1853, which earned him the title of Imperial Perfumer. Over time, the house has reinterpreted it for different fragrances, such as now in the Aqua Allegoria line, among others, as part of its image and tradition.

  • Insolence is very respectful: powerful and long-lasting, impossible to go unnoticed. Very feminine, that powdery violet scent like fine dust, what a delight.

  • Hello. With my pH it smells great; the violets and lily dominate with a powdery touch. It lasts about 8 hours with a moderate trail, but on clothes it’s eternal. Insolence is one of my favorites and it’s always in my collection. Best regards, Eli.

  • Jazmín Tuberosa

So rich, I love all its notes. The violet is more noticeable, and by the end of the day, the base notes come through. What a pity they changed the original bottle; while the juice remains the same, that’s fine.

  • Truthfully, it smells like sweet heart perfumes; wearing it puts me in a good mood. It’s very versatile, not heavy for hot weather. The only downside is the new bottle—I ordered the old one and it didn’t arrive, but it’s worth it. I’m not sure if it was reformulated since I didn’t try it before.

  • Black.orchid

They suddenly changed the bottle to a cheap, outdated one that has nothing to do with Insolence. The original was futuristic and beautiful; the new one looks like cheap cologne, so I’m not buying anymore. Plus, I can tell it’s been reformulated; it’s no longer that intense, mysterious violet; it’s watery. They’re treating us like fools! I won’t buy it again.

  • Pía Ramírez

I saw today that they changed Insolence’s bottles (toilette and parfum) to the Aqua Allegoria style: purple for the parfum, pink for the toilette, and frosted glass. The liquid isn’t a reformulation; it’s the same.

  • One of my favorites for sure… that violet scent creates an aura that makes everyone turn around to ask the name. I adore it.

  • It’s strong and sweet, but a sweet I can tolerate. I love this perfume and have repurchased it several times.

  • Totally agree with the previous review. I ordered it for my birthday this month. I like violet if it’s modern, because sometimes it’s been done the same way for 100 years. Insolence is a modern, personal violet; the best part is its trail and longevity. It’s linear and doesn’t develop much, but it lasts so long and projects so well. Although it’s not my current fragrance, it will be next in my wardrobe. Update: I bought it for the trail and longevity, but it’s been reformulated and ruined. That’s what happens when you buy online with a delay. What a shame.

  • Casablanca77

Insolence is gorgeous. I’m not a fan of violets or iris, but it has a particular acidity, like sour caramel, always with sweetness and presence. Guerlain’s sandalwood gives it the perfect touch. It’s elegant, creamy, and lush. It’s not light; it needs patience. Dry down is exceptional, smelling like a doll with high-end candies. Although it’s not floral or oriental like I usually prefer, it’s in my top list. It has incredible longevity and trail. Nowadays that perfumes smell less, I love one with an enviable trail. I can smell beautiful perfumes that vanish in a breath, but I wait to see how they develop; if they don’t have a trail, I discard them. Insolence gives me what I’m looking for: a trail in abundance and elegance. It has a peculiar scent that can be annoying because it’s so bold, but if you like it and don’t over-spray, it’s perfect for feeling perfumed, something you can’t get these days spending 100 euros.

  • Insolence is a very rare soliflore. Everything revolves around a sweet, wild, and lush violet. At first, the raspberry adds a zesty, sparkling acidity to whet the appetite. Then, the iris, gallant as the sun, invites you to dance and covers you with its powder-dusted mantle. In the background, four magnificent notes—a bit of musk, tonka bean, sandalwood, and woods—envelop you with balsamic sweetness and creaminess. It’s a very French-style floral, rich, dense, and creamy. A super-feminine, intoxicating fragrance, perfect for special occasions and cool nights. It’s very potent at first, but don’t worry; if you let it evolve, it leaves a soft trail on the skin for over 8 hours. I’m bothered by the bottle, though: even though it’s ergonomic, I get annoyed seeing the perfume spill around the nozzle. When we think of flowers, we think of roses, jasmine, neroli… and this humble, shy, dreamy violet, where is it? Like a modern Cinderella, she’s tired of waiting, wants to see the world, and has put on her hat. A radiant violet loses her fears and steps out onto the street with confidence. Intense, exuberant, and sophisticated, she makes her way through the crowd, fascinated by her brazen sensuality. This is the fragrance: strong and powerful just like her, and I say it’s about time. I’m an unconditional fan of this violet masterpiece. Dare to discover its scent; you won’t regret it.

  • Honestly, it feels very heavy to me. There have been better ones. These violet monoflorals, disguised by this name, are a bit misleading when they promise a specific aromatic profile (all their notes and composition). At least they could tell you what stands out the most instead of charging 70 bucks. If you buy it blind, like I did, and you know these scents aren’t for you, at least know what kind of colognes and smells you like. Sorry :/

  • What an amazing perfume!! I tried it and fell in love instantly. It’s creamy, sweet, feminine, sexy, and elegant. It reminds me of the violet candies my grandmother used to give me when I was little. It’s dazzling. I don’t detect the berry notes, but rather an explosion of sugared violets with a powdery iris, finishing with a touch of tonka bean and subtle wood. It has a powerful sillage and impeccable longevity—you can’t ask for more from a perfume. It’s already in my favorites list. I’m head over heels (。❤‿❤。)

  • Just opened my new Insolence EDP and I can conclude it’s very similar, if not identical, to the EDT I already own in my collection. The EDP is probably a bit more intense, but I love both versions. That powdery, creamy scent is my favorite in a perfume; I don’t like heavy floral notes like jasmine, and these two Insolence versions are perfect. I’ll likely use the EDP for the upcoming winter.

  • I love perfumes with violet notes (besides vanilla and raspberry); in fact, I own Ultraviolet. When I decided to buy it, I tested both the perfume and the Eau de Toilette, and surprisingly, I preferred the perfume. It’s distinct from the rest, mysterious, just as its name suggests, it’s insolent. I love it for cold nights; it’s a great option for violet lovers. The bottle is beautiful, and the longevity is great—two sprays are enough to last all day.

  • The violet note here gives me nostalgia, but honestly, it doesn’t hook me enough to buy it; everything else is already said.

  • Violets, violets, and more violets! Sweet and intense, but too much. I didn’t like it on my skin; it didn’t suit me. It lasts forever and has a huge sillage, but it’s not my style. I prefer My Insolence, which is a bit softer.

  • Yadorán d'Vinea

Insolence was Guerlain’s signal to target a younger crowd. It’s an aggressive, mature fragrance, far from the trendy white florals, built on a simple base of talcum and a predictable caramelized touch. The Eau de Parfum version is denser and livelier: it starts with a whisper of red berries over violets, then explodes into powdery, caramelized iris, closing with tonka bean and toasted woods (I don’t detect bergamot). It reminds me of my philosophy teacher: ‘Sensuality is overrated.’ While it isn’t sensual, the ad campaign featuring a nude Hilary Swank and Muse music is a brazen mockery of that idea. It’s a visionary piece from Guerlain—powerful and admirable—without turning you into a sexual symbol like Allure Sensuelle. It’s thick, its presence is always noticeable, and its trail is massive.

  • Carlos Andrés

Insolence… what more can I say? I love it. It smells deliciously candied violets, hence the talcum touch. The red fruits are only noticeable at first. After five minutes, the violets appear subtly before turning into a wild whirlwind of dark, caramelized violets. Hours later, they’re still there, mixed with iris and sandalwood. The sillage is beastly, typical Guerlain. I just bought it and fear it might sell out, so I’m buying another. It’s more potent than the EDT: sweet at first, then the violets give that talcum kick. It’s different, attention-grabbing, bold, and evokes daring. It’s not for everyone, but perfect for those who love violets, dense perfumes, and want to make a statement. I recommend it; it’s a must-have piece.

  • Black.orchid

A sexy perfume that makes people notice you; apply it generously so it shines in all its glory and is unmistakable.
