Descripción

Cairo by Penhaligon's is an oriental floral fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2019, this olfactory composition was created by perfumer Christophe Raynaud. In its opening, the scent unfolds with a top note of damask rose and saffron, giving way to a warm heart of vanilla, cyperus (nagarmota), and labdanum. The base rests on sandalwood, patchouli, and cedar, closing the olfactory pyramid with timeless elegance.

  • Nice smell, but NOTHING, but NOTHING new. Typical Oud-Rose-vanilla combo like 50 other alternatives on the market. It starts to annoy and tire me that everything smells like this combination now.

First, I recognize Nk31; I found her review amusing and liked it quite a bit. Personally, I love it. I received a decant 3-4 months ago, and when I decided to buy the full bottle, I let it dry down. It has a great opening of rose and saffron (a spice I’m finding in many perfumes lately) and sits very well on the skin. On clothes, it can last up to a week, in my experience, and while the sillage is a bit heavy, it’s unforgettable. It reminds me of a travel novel set in the 19th century. As far as I’ve seen, the nose behind this creation is well-known for other commercial works like One Million EDT by Christophe Raynaud, which I found curious given the shared ingredient.

  • I’d describe this fragrance as a sunset or dusk, with incredible, vibrant warm orange tones framed by strong, contrasting shadows. Unlike other reviews, I think the scent is quite original. While it has prominent notes of fine woods, rose, and vanilla like other popular fragrances, this one feels more summery and suitable for warm climates than others geared toward cold weather. The fragrance stands out for its spicy and warm tone. I repeat, it feels a lot like an intense sunset. I’d recommend it especially for late summer, moderating the application since it has excellent sillage and longevity.

  • Penhaligon’s makes perfumes of excellent quality. Cairo is a perfect, exquisite fragrance. I helped a lady from the Middle East choose her outfit, and as she walked by, she left a scent that surprised me; she told me she was wearing this. When I tried it, I fell in love—even though the first spray was a ‘no,’ it surprised me as the minutes passed. On me, it smells sweet, like autumn, or a Christmas pastry. Saffron is one of my favorite notes and stands out the most, super spicy with a labdanum touch that adds an incense vibe. I can detect the cypriol because it smells fresh but not overpowering. It smells very similar to Gucci’s Oud Intense; the dry down is alike since they share notes, but Cairo has more sillage and projection. Perfect for autumn and winter nights. Longevity, projection, and sillage: 10/10.

  • Penhaligon’s makes top-tier quality perfumes, and Cairo is a perfect example of that exquisite craftsmanship. I helped a lady from the Middle East choose her outfit, and as she walked by, she radiated a scent that left me speechless; she told me she was wearing this. When I finally tried it, I fell in love at first sniff. The first spray was a ‘no,’ but after a few minutes, it completely surprised me. On my skin, it smells sweet, like autumn and a Christmas pastry. Saffron is one of my favorite notes and really stands out—super spicy with a touch of labdanum that brings out the incense. I can definitely detect the cypress; it smells fresh but not overpowering. It smells very similar to Gucci’s Oud Intense on me; the dry-down is alike due to shared notes, but Cairo has better sillage and projection. Perfect for autumn and winter nights. Longevity, projection, and sillage: 10/10.

  • I love it! It’s a classic scent, but the combination is unbeatable. Saffron, one of my favorite notes, blends beautifully with the rose and drives me wild. Then the cypriol and labdanum emerge to leave a vanilla-based dry down. Highly recommended: magnificent longevity, moderate sillage, great performance, and top-tier quality.
