After weeks of waiting, I finally received this masterpiece this Friday. Niche-quality incense and rose, very well balanced thanks to the sacred marriage of leather and amberwood. The trail is high at first due to the rose, and as it settles, you notice that leather base culminating in a gorgeous incense, one of the best I’ve ever tried. In my view, it has many similarities with CH Men Insignia, except that one was oud-rose-leather and this is incense-rose-leather; the concept is quite similar. Sometimes it’s worth paying for the little quirks of these hard-to-find perfumes.
Spectacular fragrance where a dense, dark incense predominates, amplified by leather, but balanced by the softness of the underlying rose. It’s the evolution of Miyake’s Noir Argent and very close in quality to Tom Ford’s Men Extreme. As @juangse says, it has nothing to envy from any niche brand, fitting perfectly into that league. In my opinion, it has a dark and nocturnal soul, but it’s also an excellent option for very cold days.
Extraordinary quality fragrance. An opening of dense, dark incense that makes you think of a dark, empty Gothic church, where the echo of your footsteps resonates. It’s accompanied by a rose that’s neither feminine nor sparkly, but masculine, almost black-red, velvety, with a touch of decay, just like the flowers offered at the feet of the icons in that oppressive temple. A perfume that overwhelms and makes you think of the sacred and the reverential fear man feels before its presence. It evolves into an old, acidic leather that reinforces the masculinity. Mysterious, sexy, and elegant to the extreme. I’m sure this is how the Black Pope must have smelled during his conspiratorial meetings in the Vatican’s basements. Pure sinful pleasure. Projection and longevity are incredible. It’s a shame it’s so hard to find.
Beautiful unisex rose composition, masculine yet without losing the quality of Issey’s ‘Dark Side’. It reminds me a bit of Oud Satin Mood but less heavy, more wearable, and absolutely delicious. It’s quite sensual and nothing pretentious. The longevity is decent (6-8 hours) with at least 7 sprays. I wouldn’t pay more than $100 because, if it weren’t for the trail and longevity that exceed the average, I’d be thrilled. At first, it smells like weird syrup; I feel it lacks punch, maybe it was meant to be subtle.
I just didn’t get it. I admit when I first tried it, I liked it, but it got on my nerves just like it did for others. What I really hate is Issey Miyake’s habit of discontinuing all their perfumes except the originals: Pulse of the Night, Noir Ambre, Noir Argent, Polaris… This rose and incense combo has something about it that just doesn’t click for me.
Definitely, this OR ENCENS is an evolution of NOIR ARGENT, or vice versa, hehe. They share similarities but have their own distinct differences. I already compared them with decants. I have the 100ml bottle of Noir Argent for about $57, but I’m still waiting for the Or Encens edition from May 26, 2024. I bought mine back in June 2022, also 100ml, for $67.
