Since there were no reviews, I felt brave enough to break the ice; I’ve been following it for over a year and the only reason I haven’t bought a bottle is the price. I agree with the notes: the opening mixes cardamom and cinnamon, sweet and velvety, with pepper that’s noticeable quickly. I don’t detect the saffron or cumin well, but I do sense the spicy character. As it dries down, tobacco and cedar round everything out. In summary: The Blazing Mr Sam is slightly sweet, spicy, warm, and has personality without being ostentatious. It lasts about 8 hours on skin with a moderate sillage. It looks great on men in their 20s, versatile except in very hot weather. It’s my favorite from the Portraits collection (along with The Bewitching Yasmine for her) and has a lot of similarity to Halfeti. Hope you give this beast a try and like it as much as I do. Cheers!
I hadn’t found a scent that won me over in months; this is the first from this house and it’s a wonder. I spent the weekend with a fan in hand, smelling it over and over. I’m already adding it to my wishlist because, although it’s pricey, it’s totally worth it.
I hadn’t found a scent that instantly won me over in months. This is the first fragrance from this house I’ve tried, and it’s simply a masterpiece. I spent the whole weekend with a fan blowing fresh air over this incredible aroma. I’m already saving up for the bottle because, even though it’s pricey, it’s absolutely worth it.
Very marked spicy opening that evolves into something sweet with a just-right touch of tobacco on the skin; the bad part is it doesn’t last more than three hours. If it lasted longer, it would be a great fresh perfume.
Right next to Naxos, this is one of the best openings I’ve ever smelled. What a shame that this opening fades so quickly; at this price point, it should last longer. In my test, both the top and heart notes vanished within an hour.
Along with Naxos, this is one of the best launches I’ve ever tried, but it’s a pity it fades so quickly; for the price, I expected it to last longer, as in my test the top and heart notes vanished in an hour.
Warm and spicy, but with a softness that makes it ideal for winter; I’ve worn it for three days and it’s already among my favorites.
They say this is the dupe for Desert Falcon Deluxe… the one with the black cap…
I’m not sure if I got the cat instead of the rabbit with this perfume, but it smells a lot like 1 Million Golden Oud, a Middle Eastern fragrance I barely managed to get a month ago. Today this one arrived and it’s almost the same aroma, just a bit subtler.
Reminded me a lot of Jusbox’s Beat Cafe, though in the end, I prefer Beat Cafe.
One of the coziest, elegant, and most versatile fragrances out there. It has the charm of simplicity and is totally reliable thanks to its great longevity. It’s not a 10 in anything, but it’s a 9 in everything except price.
It smells like Halfeti but in a soapy, clean version. It’s super easy to wear and incredibly versatile. It gives a sense of security, like you’ve put your best foot forward. I see it as a daytime scent, ideal for work or formal events. Around the middle of the wear, a cumin-curry note emerges that could be alarming, but with that clean soapy base and a touch of tobacco, it blends perfectly and becomes addictive. It’s less assertive than its sibling, less challenging, and less long-lasting. The longevity is the only flaw: it barely lasts four hours, and I don’t understand why. It’s a pity because I love it. It resembles Naxos or Andres Croxatto, which is like Ecce Homo being a painting of Christ.
Sounds like Halfeti but cleaner and soapy. Super easy to wear, incredibly versatile. Gives a sense of security, of being well-groomed and tidy. I see it as a daytime scent, ideal for work or a formal look. Around mid-life, a cumin-curry note emerges that could be scary, but with that clean base and a touch of tobacco, it comes together perfectly and becomes addictive. It’s much less showy than its sibling Halfeti, less challenging, and less long-lasting. Longevity is the only flaw: it doesn’t last more than 4 hours for me, which I don’t understand. It’s a shame because I love it. It resembles Naxos or Andres Croxatto, much like Ecce Homo by Borja resembles a painting of Christ.
What a convoluted take ChatGPT has on writing fragrance reviews.
This fragrance offers a rich and enveloping experience. From the start, the spicy cinnamon and vibrant saffron catch attention. As it evolves, it reveals a warm and sophisticated base of creamy vanilla and elegant cedar, with a tobacco that unifies everything. Although it recalls Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford, here the vanilla is more subtle and takes longer to emerge, avoiding excessive sweetness. Considered a masterpiece, its exceptional scent justifies the high price and makes it a must-have for any collector. Highly recommended purchase, 10/10.
The perfume of wealthy English gentlemen gathering in a library room to discuss important matters or do business, enjoying whisky or cognac and smoking cigars. From start to finish, it’s a show due to the quality and balance. The opening is super spicy, and the tobacco already peeks out, which for me is the protagonist note along with the woods; as it evolves, these show their quality. Extreme longevity.
It’s a total show, absolutely worth the price.
First off, some trivia: I’m not sure about all Penhaligon’s, but at least the Portraits series is made in Spain (curious that a prestigious English house does it here, our revenge, Pirate Drake). The perfumer is Christophe Raynaud, famous for Scandal and the One Million family by Rabanne. The price is high (€275) and hard to find lower at reliable places; if you’re in the UK or someone is, check Heathrow Duty Free—I got mine there for €75 less. To the bull: the animal crowning the bottle. The opening is a spectacle, sweet yet spiced for fun. It’s not groundbreaking, but it has high-quality ingredients and good construction. As others say, the similarity list is ridiculous; maybe it resembles One Million Golden Oud (though this one is sweeter), by the same perfumer with similar chords. For me, it’s for an autumn night that isn’t too cold, with a light coat or a nice jacket, that time of the year when dusk comes early and events are indoors. The first hour gives you an extra boost; you arrive happy at that postponed reunion dinner and hug your people. Even between glasses of wine, you still leave a trail, but as the dinner progresses, the scent retreats into the skin and lasts until the end of the evening. I think it’s delicious, without a doubt. In this luxury world, the contradiction is whether it’s worth so much for something so “simple”; you have to choose the moments very carefully to associate with this scent and make it unique.

Like sweet tobacco with spices? You need this. It takes the first batch of Man in Black by Bvlgary to the next level of sophistication and elegance. FA BU LO SA 10/10.
After almost a year with a vial, I finally decided to try it. Crazy, but it smells like the clean base of any blue fragrance, just with an insane spicy charge, a bomb of cardamom and other spices. The tobacco comes out quickly and is very present, with black pepper and saffron sweetened by vanilla, yet it’s not sweet; it smells clean and spicy. I see it as versatile and elegant, something mature. What I don’t like is that the scent doesn’t surprise me, and it stings my nose a lot, probably due to the spices.
This is Oud Malaki, literally. A bit more smoky and less “sweet,” spicier. But in essence, it’s the same thing with no better performance. So I prefer Oud Malaki considering the prices of both. This one is good, but way overpriced.
Come on… Mr. Sam by Penhaligon’s is a beast, a mix of tobacco, spices, and amber. It starts sweet with woods and spices, then tobacco and amber take over. Smells high-quality and refined, perfect for going out at night or special events. Note: I bought it blind and loved it, but then I did the same with the Desert Falcon Luxury Edition by Arabian Oud and realized they share 85% of their profile. Owning both feels like a total redundancy.
This is pure Oud Malaki. It needs a bit more smoke, less sweetness, and more spice. In essence, it’s the same, but the performance doesn’t improve. I prefer Malaki for the price. This smells good, but it’s way overpriced.
Tastes delicious, but it fades in a flash.
