Jazz Club by Maison Martin Margiela is a leather fragrance for men. Launched in 2013, this composition was created by perfumer Alienor Massenet. The opening unfolds with pink pepper, neroli, and lemon; the heart reveals rum, Java vetiver oil, and heliotrope; while the base settles on tobacco leaf, vanilla bean, and styrax.

Very nice scent; it’s not a very strong rum or tobacco. I consider it unisex and think it works better in the cold. It doesn’t have much projection but lasts a reasonable amount of time on the skin. Recommended, but not for blind buying.

  • Rich aroma, not much more to say. It lasts between six and eight hours, but the sillage is very poor. For the price of a bottle from this brand, you could easily buy a Mancera.

  • Irene1975

The blend of tobacco and rum is spectacular; it simulates a night at a jazz club in New York. I gifted it to my son, and he loved it so much that he said from now on it would be among his favorites.

  • Simply excellent; it smells great, lasts a long time, and is more of a winter scent. Although I haven’t tested it in the heat, I’m sure it’s not overwhelming because it smells so good that you want to keep smelling it; it’s addictive.

  • BassoProfumo

In my opinion, very similar to Zara’s Rich Warm Addictive. It’s very sweet, unisex, and feels a bit synthetic, but the drydown is pleasant and becomes softer and more balanced.

  • After testing it, here’s the verdict: 1. It is masculine (for me), even though it says for men; I thought if I liked it I’d wear it, but spraying it I thought, ‘wow, this is definitely for men.’ 2. It smells great; I think a guy would look super sexy in it. 3. On me, it lasted a breath. One spray filled the room, but in under 20 minutes it was already fading, and I think it was gone by three hours. Although it seems rich enough to gift a man, I wouldn’t buy it for anyone because it doesn’t last for the price. I know it’s EDT, but for those 20 or 30 euros, I’m sure I can find something similar with better sillage and longevity.

  • Rich Irish coffee and pipe tobacco aroma; the name is perfect. To me, jazz smells like this: boozy, cozy, with clean tobacco and a good brandy while Chet Baker or Coltrane plays. It sets the scene with jazz and is very evocative.

  • I honestly left a club at 6 am and it smelled terrible, almost made me vomit. I washed six times and the scent was still there, very potent.

  • Candeleda

I can’t stand the opening; it smells like an ashtray and gives me nausea. Later it softens, but by then I’m already dizzy. On someone else, especially a guy, it works well after the first hour, but on me, it’s a resounding no.

  • Excellent blend of rum, tobacco, vanilla, and a soft resinous citrus. Reminds me of Couvent des Minimes Porto Bello. But if you can afford the difference, stick with this.

  • Typical vanilla and tobacco perfume with an alcoholic touch. What I liked is that it has a soapy undertone that, although short-lived, gives it a very pleasant clean vibe even with heavy notes. I don’t know why I keep testing Margiela if most of them are failures; this one is good, but with that longevity, I’d go with Dolce & Gabbana The One: same profile, same performance, but a masterpiece level and cheaper. In the end, it depends on what you like. This profile doesn’t excite me, but if I wanted to buy that Margiela, I’d look at The One; you’d probably win. If you want better performance, check out Initio Side Effect, though it’s a different price point.

Can imagination cloud the sense of smell? This perfume ‘recreates,’ according to the description, a sweltering night at a Brooklyn jazz club. I don’t know the scent of those clubs well, but I’ve lived in the nightlife world for over twenty years: open shirts, smells mixed with sweaty skin, people dancing in tight spaces, cocktails, and industrially burnt cigarettes. I don’t smell clear cigarettes here, maybe a faint reminiscence, but a single spray takes you on a peculiar olfactory journey. Sweet, almost exotic atmospheres, spiced, subtly masculine; instead of a jazz club, it reminds me of a trendy, expensive cocktail bar. Despite the notes, it’s not heavy. It doesn’t seem powerful; Jazz Club opens at medium volume with a vanilla sweetness balanced by a pleasant rum. After a moment of surprise, it turns soft: patchouli and vetiver slide in discreetly, reminiscent of an exotic drink with a fine touch of coconut, without reaching ‘drunkenness.’ From my point of view, it has similarities to Dolce & Gabbana’s ‘The One,’ with this Margiela being finer and more elegant. Definitely a warm scent, even slightly sensual, that deserves a test before buying.

Not for everyone. Tobacco and rum dominate at first, followed by vanilla and vetiver. The scent is dry and slightly sweet; I wouldn’t recommend it for teenagers because it can smell boozy to some. I do recommend it for dates in winter or autumn for those over 25. Scent: 8.5/10 (not for everyone). Projection: moderate. Longevity: 8-10 hours. Sillage: moderate. Price: 8/10.

I don’t know what happened with this scent. The first time I applied it, I had to wash it off immediately. I tried it again today and my impression changed, but it still doesn’t work for me as a daily wear. It smells like bohemian night: leather, vanilla, vetiver, and tobacco. That blend is peculiar and just didn’t click for me. It also has a herbal note, I think it’s chamomile. Honestly, it’s not for my everyday life, nor for dinners or concerts.

  • With Jazz Club, after a spicy citrus opening, soft and elegant tobacco appears alongside a subtle rum. These aren’t dense scents; they’re well-balanced and don’t overpower the other notes. But soon a powdery note emerges and intensifies until it dominates the entire fragrance until the end. In summary: excellent for those who want a light touch of tobacco, with decent performance (7/8h), very wearable in any season (except extreme heat) if dosed properly. As always, test it on your skin and be patient with its evolution.

  • Its scent is a masterpiece: literally smells like walking into a bar from the 80s where smoking was allowed. It’s the smell of cigar smoke, pipe, cigar, and rum. Very pleasant. The big flaw is that it has the worst longevity and projection I’ve ever encountered. A real shame.

  • imnotlarry

I’m a fan of tobacco, but the ‘friendly’ kind, with vanilla or cinnamon. I also like aggressive fragrances, but this one isn’t. It smells like raw tobacco that says nothing, and its performance is VERY poor.

  • AdrianG87

The most misunderstood fragrance from the brand. It’s not bad, it’s good, but it’s not for everyone or every skin type. Imagine a cozy jazz club or a vintage corner with a whisky and a cigar. Soft jazz sounds, laughter, and chatter… that’s what Jazz Club smells like. Warm, woody, slightly smoky, with an alcohol touch. I picture an older gentleman wearing it with confidence at a party. It’s not the most long-lasting, but decent for going out. Initial projection is good, then it becomes subtle. Apply two extra sprays to keep it going.

  • Of all the Maison Margiela dupes, this is my favorite. Ironically, based on the reviews I thought it would be the one I’d like least, but it’s the opposite: it’s a masterpiece. The only downside is that it doesn’t even have 20% of the sillage and longevity of its sibling, ‘By The Fireplace’.

  • Jorbertziz

I let myself be swayed by reviews selling it as the eighth wonder, and I must say… they were right. It’s an exquisite, sublime, mysterious, and discreet scent… without exaggerating, it’s the best in my collection so far. It opens with a citrus burst that lasts seconds before giving way to a slightly sweet alcoholic rum, which then leaves a burnt tobacco note like ash and a base of fine woods. If you’re afraid of blind buys and are a tobacco fan, it’s a resounding yes. It’s simply spectacular.

  • The notes sound scary: rum, tobacco, vanilla, vetiver, pink pepper… you might think you’re about to meet a bearded pirate. But in reality, the rum and tobacco are subtle, wrapped in vanilla. It has a similar profile to Bvlgari Man in Black, which feels a bit redundant, and both fragrances seem weak; I’m not sure which to choose. Back to the pirate theme: there’s no pirate here, just a modern man in a bar. It’s a scent for smelling good. I wouldn’t use it in the context it tries to replicate (a club or disco) because it goes unnoticed. It’s for night out, various occasions (formal, casual…). But I don’t see the magic or the uniqueness. It smells good, but it competes with giants like Mercedes Club Black, Bvlgari Man in Black, Spicebomb, The One EDP, Tobacco Vanille, and John Varvatos Vintage. I would choose those over Jazz Club.

  • PERFUMON: A warm perfume suitable for formal occasions thanks to the tobacco and rum, yet it doesn’t lose its youthful vibe thanks to the vanilla. Lasting power is decent (8 hours) and the projection is insane, at least in my case.

  • Beautiful, warm… starts citrusy and peppery… but dries down deliciously, unisex, with rum, tobacco, and vanilla… I absolutely adore it.

  • For tobacco lovers, here is one of the best in the genre! Maison Margiela’s Jazz Club is a masterpiece that starts with pepper and lemon notes that don’t fade but instead give way to rum, tobacco, and vanilla. They blend beautifully with lavender and vetiver, creating an absolute delight. The experience is evocative, transporting you to an old-school Hollywood-style jazz bar. Performance is acceptable: 7-8 hours on skin with 2-3 hours of projection. I totally recommend it; it seduces and leaves no one indifferent. It’s a true gem in perfumery. I love it!

  • It’s fantastic but expensive $$ for what’s available in my country right now. I only have a 10 ml decant and it smells of majestic tobacco and vetiver with a touch of caramelized vanilla and perhaps a hint of evaporated dry rum from a glass. I’d say it smells like an elegant jazz bar. The tobacco is just like Aramis Tobacco Reserve and the vetiver matches Dolce Gabbana Blue Forever. I stumbled upon Ola Factory Music Fest Fragrance World and this dupe or clone is very similar; maybe the ingredients differ but the scent is almost identical about 85%.

  • Rum vanilla tobacco and woods. It smells exactly as described; the quality is good and the longevity is excellent. The projection is decent. It’s a romantic but heavy scent; if you overspray it it can give you a stomach ache. I recommend wearing it only after age 20 on cold nights and without overdoing it. Note: I adore how Replica captures scents; Jazz Club and By the Fireplace are flawless. I suggest watching videos to know what it smells like though the name is already very accurate.

  • gato.disociado

Honestly it’s an exquisite perfume. It could feel heavy in the heat but so far it’s one of the scents I’ve found closest to me. It has a lot of audacity and at the same time immense elegance.

  • Note that the early bottles said ‘Male Fragrance then they switched to Memory in a Fragrance claiming better longevity. I tried it on a friend and loved that concentration, especially those standout lemons. I thought it was great. I ll pick it up at C.I. even in 30 ml to see how it performs at lunch.

  • Elenperfume

No one understands why they market it as a men’s fragrance; it looks spectacular on me. It’s dark mysterious and super sexy yet not feminine at all. It smells exactly as promised: a jazz club. Wood pipe tobacco and lots of sweet liquor. Perfect for a woman at night for dinner or with a few cocktails.

  • manulauria

It starts with a powdery, sweet, and warm opening in a mature format. There’s a fresh touch, a blast of tobacco that transports me to people with scarves and rooms with extravagant walls. As it dries, it darkens. Sometimes it reminds me of Givenchy Society Extreme, but this one retains more freshness. It has a passionate, intimate, and addictive sweetness up close. It’s seductive and performs well at night. Excellent, nothing heavy, with an original twist. You can definitely detect vanilla in the base. Once dried, the sweetness persists and the tobacco embraces the fragrance. Longevity isn’t its strong suit: the trail is moderate and the duration average. From my perspective, it’s definitely a man’s scent. The opening is strong, but over time it leans towards unisex with a masculine tint.

  • juancar677

It’s the most masculine of the Maison Martin Margiela Replica line. It doesn’t place me in a jazz club, aside from the fact that I don’t have much experience with those clubs, which are scarce in Valencia. I suppose the leather, rum, and tobacco are responsible. But to me, it smells like a niche fragrance and incredibly elegant, suggestive, and inviting. I thought it was great when I smelled it on a friend, and I still do. It’s appropriate for fresh weather, and for the ‘jazz club’ vibe, it works perfectly in enclosed spaces—it doesn’t go unnoticed and is loved for its refinement and quality. The Margiela DNA is present, just like in By the Fireplace; there’s a recognizable house factor. This seems like a work of art. Highly recommended for perfume lovers. It will grab you quickly and offers impressive natural notes; I clearly perceive the lemon, that slice over the cocktail. Everything is appealing.

  • Very_gentleman

It’s for those over 30, formal events, and collectors. I tried the 3ml sample; it smells great. The tobacco is rich, and yes, it has an alcoholic opening, but it’s very formal and nocturnal for my taste—I wouldn’t wear it to the office. It reminded me of Yuqawam once it dried down… The projection is short and not very deep. Definitely for collectors, not an all-rounder scent.

  • Tabaco Romántico is warm and sweet. Even though it has rum and tobacco, they aren’t heavy, so it’s not intimidating. It’s super unisex, perfect for mysterious scents. Thanks to the vetiver not dominating, it doesn’t smell cloying. The citrus and rum dance back and forth, leaving a sweet tobacco with vanilla, nothing overly sugary. The dry down is creamy and pleasant. It’s addictive and gets compliments, but I see it as special occasion wear. It’s not as dark as the name suggests; it’s elegant and easy to enjoy. Rating: 9/10. Smells great, warm, and mysterious without being sickening.

  • I just got into perfumes looking for a rocker scent. My sister left me a 2ml sample, and my goodness, instant love. I bought it on Sephora’s website because it’s hard to find. It smells heavily of rum and tobacco, and even though I don’t know the technical terms, it’s that kind of scent you love to feel close to. The important thing is that you like it. I don’t care if girls or others like it. When I wear it, I feel wrapped up, warm, and comfortable. I don’t know how it will be for summer.

  • I was craving Jazz Club by Maison Margiela after reading recommendations for fall in Madrid. I found a sample at El Corte Inglés during my trip. I applied what was left on blotter paper, and on the first sniff, it seemed different and very pleasant. I knew I wanted to own it. It’s for cold climates and nights, ideal for dinners or quiet settings. I think it’s for people 30 and up, occasional use. I managed to get a 10ml decant for about $30 and tested it on my skin. It’s interesting: it smells like a real jazz club, with liquors, tobacco, and woods, enveloping and sophisticated. I want to try it more on clothes and skin to check projection and longevity. Rating: 8/10.

  • I absolutely love this sweet fragrance, probably thanks to that delicious vanilla and the smoky note that rounds it out. It lasts longer than it projects. It doesn’t break the mold, but it smells glorious. Sometimes it smells like rum, other times dry and rough, but always rich and sweet.

  • I walked into Sephora and a guy approached me, staring at Jazz Club. Let’s be honest, it smelled like tobacco. You can buy a cheaper cigarette than smearing yourself with an ashtray.
