Descripción
The Favourite by Penhaligon's is a floral musk woody fragrance for women. Launched in 2020, this olfactory composition was created by perfumer Alienor Massenet. In its opening, violet, freesia, and mandarin give way to a heart where mimosa, iris, and sambac jasmine (sampaguita) reveal their essence. The trail settles on a base of musk, ambroxan, and sandalwood.

I remember walking up to a Penhaligon’s booth years ago and smelling several fragrances I liked but can’t recall the names. On my last trip to Bilbao, I went to El Corte Inglés to see if I could find something from this brand that matched my taste. Based on the notes, The Favourite seemed promising, but it felt very generic, incredibly boring, and lacked evolution. I barely detected any notes; it simply smelled like the cologne a little girl would get for her first gift (probably Barbie).

During my last trip to Bilbao, I went to El Corte Inglés looking for something from this brand. Based on the notes, The Favourite seemed like my favorite, but it felt very generic, boring, and lacked evolution. I didn’t detect many distinct notes; it just smelled like the cologne a little girl would wear right after receiving her first bottle (Barbie-style).
I don’t think The Favourite is a Barbie fragrance. Yes, the packaging is very pink, and pink can be a turn-off for many women, but this pink isn’t Barbie. It’s Rococo, like Fragonard’s Swing, an exquisite pink dress. It’s hedonistic, gallant, evoking romantic scenes, cherubs, and country parties. It has a youthful spirit, not childish—playful and cheerful. It doesn’t reveal itself at first glance; it requires effort to appreciate. It’s not as weak as it seems; when you think you’ve defeated it, it reappears with delights. Maybe a juicy pear? It’s that little shoe in the air, with a cheeky charm. A bite of sweet tangerine in a field of flowers, highlighting violet and mimosa. You feel the tangerine juice while perceiving the flowers. Finally, iris appears to dust the scene, very lightly, as if wanting to glaze it without losing its juicy character. Sandalwood adds warmth and creamy texture to lend solemnity to the end. It projects with elegance and discretion but is long-lasting (contrary to what people say about Penhaligon’s). It might not be my favorite because it’s too accommodating and overpriced, but it’s very pretty and well-made. It brightens your day, perfect for spring, versatile. It’s charming, 100% feminine. Some might find it too sweet; in my case, it’s a bit much, though not a candy, it’s just good taste. It doesn’t change your life, but it makes it more pleasant, more pink.

Smells amazing. Reminds me of a candy shop or a little cream cake in an iris and violet park. A bit further away, the mimosa; all fresh at their peak spring moment, freshly watered. The tangerine with soft hints of jasmine, musk, and ambroxan that recall ambergris. As it dries, the violet stands out like those flower-shaped candies, in all their glory. The scent is soft and subtle, reminiscent of Lancôme’s Idole but with more facets, heading in that direction.

To be brief: it reminds me of ‘tutti frutti’ bubblegum. It’s a pleasant, fresh, and light scent.
Short and sweet: smells like red berry gum. It’s a fresh, pleasant, and very light scent.
Purely floral fragrance! They achieved sweet violets that don’t smell powdery. It feels natural with a very pleasant floral sweetness; they removed the vintage vibe from violets, and now they smell hyper-realistic, like a fresh bouquet. Average to low longevity, but a strong sillage for the first two hours, then about four more hours close to the skin.
The Penhaligon’s favorites! A finely spun sweet mandarin blended with violet, a mist of mimosa, and jasmine tea. The creaminess of sandalwood gives it a velvet texture, like touching something fragile you’re afraid to break. You smell like sweet powder clinging to your skin, making you feel beautiful. This is what Maria Antoñeta would smell like in her period dresses. Scent: 🧁🧁🧁🧁 Longevity: 🧁🧁🧁
If you love violets, this perfume is for you. Violet is the star and what stands out most, accompanied by mimosa, musk, and iris that give it a powdery touch without feeling old-fashioned. Ideal for an outdoor spring wedding. It’s subtle, elegant, sweet, tender, and delicate, with that little Barbie princess vibe.
If you love violets, this is your perfume. That’s the star note and what stands out the most. Paired with mimosa, musk, and iris, it gives a powdery touch but nothing old-fashioned. Perfect for an outdoor spring wedding. It’s subtle, elegant, sweet, and tender, like a Barbie princess.
Beautiful and pleasant, though not entirely new. Very feminine. While it’s described as violet, I detect mandarin, mimosa, and jasmine that take the focus slightly off; it’s not as direct as other violet scents. It settles into a powdery finish over time, creating that second-skin effect—close-range but long-lasting and lovely. Perfect for spring, April and May days when the chill fades but the heat hasn’t fully arrived yet.
Beautiful. Nothing new, but very pleasant and feminine. They say it’s violet-forward, and I do detect it, though the mandarin, mimosa, and jasmine take some of the spotlight. It’s not as overt as in other violet perfumes. Over time, it becomes powdery, creating that signature second-skin scent—intimate yet long-lasting. It’s springtime, daytime, and deeply feminine. Perfect for April and May when it’s cool but not too hot.
