Guerlain L'Homme Idéal Eau de Parfum is a woody oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 2016, this composition was created by Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk. The top notes unfold with almond, spices, lavender, bergamot, rosemary, and thyme; the heart reveals cherry, vanilla, incense, and Bulgarian rose; while the base notes settle on tonka bean, leather, and sandalwood.

A wonderful perfume. What you feel most is the cherry, almond, and leather. Its longevity is medium, not exceeding 7-8 hours depending on the weather. Its projection and sillage are strong the first hour. It’s a sweet touch without being cloying. This aroma is enjoyed a lot. The notes indicate it has rose, but it’s very, very light, almost imperceptible. There is a Guerlain perfume very similar to this one but with 3 times superior performance. Where the notes that are felt most are cherry, licorice, leather, and rose. It’s called Black Perfecto. If you like perfumes with the cherry note, these are two must-haves. Black Perfecto is categorized for women but I find it 60% masculine and 40% feminine. Great perfumes. I’m a huge fan of the whole line and my top of L’homme Ideal always changed from month to month. This was never my favorite but I love it just the same. It’s enjoyed to the fullest. A 10/10.
The best cherry, the scent is very good, not cloying. In Mexico it cost me 800 pesos on sale.
Guerlain redefines the ideal man. Intense, sophisticated, intoxicating, seductive. Without a doubt the best in the line, light years ahead of the other flankers; while the others (especially the Intense) are great perfumes, this plays in a different league, the cherry gives it a supreme level. If this perfume were a boyfriend, he would be the one all mothers-in-law would want for their daughters. Because yes, because that’s the ideal man. A true beauty, an EDP in every sense of the word. It has very, very good longevity, over 8 hours on skin, while on clothes it can last days. It’s a Mauri fragrance, would be, but at the same time warm and quite seductive, just like that, the representation of a made man. Perfect for the office (with few sprays) and equally perfect for formal events, where you can wear it perfectly with a suit and tie. While the notes of Guerlain’s L’homme Ideal share a common denominator in the almond, this one has the sharp presence of cherry, incense, leather, and tonka bean, which give it that undisputed masculinity. Personally, I think someone over 25 can use it, but you’ll have to dress quite formally to wear it in all its splendor. This is another one that should be in the collection of anyone who knows what they want and is looking for it.
Another ruined perfume. Bought it in 2023, bottle with the new packaging. Upon applying it, I felt it was very weak, lasting barely two hours and projecting for 30 minutes. I felt it so weak that I wrote to Guerlain to see if I had a defective batch. They sent me a new unit with very nice packaging, but the perfume was just as weak. Even the cologne for kids lasts longer than this. Don’t waste your money on something like this; the performance is lamentable. Be very careful with YouTuber reviews because they don’t match reality. It’s a perfume that smells good, like cherry coke with vanilla, a touch of sandalwood, but the longevity is shameful and the sillage is nonexistent. Very bad Guerlain, not like this.
I love it, it’s exactly what I was looking for. Elegance and sweetness bottled. I love and will always love the cherry in this juice; there’s nothing like it, nothing compares for me. I had a bottle of the old version and now I have the current one, and it still lasts well. 9.5/10.
Please read to the end 😉 Just put it on generously and it smells sensational: warm, sophisticated, and sexy. You can detect those great almonds with lavender and bergamot… and then that sweet cherry appears accompanied by Damask rose and a seductive vanilla… and then…? Then everything starts to fade because it barely projects or leaves a trail… and then you have to keep bringing your nose closer to follow the scent as it goes… You detect it skin-close, and once you step outside, GAME OVER. Conflicting feelings about how such a precious composition becomes so ephemeral. Bittersweet sensation, and given the price, even a disappointment. Those who criticize Arab perfumes for smelling synthetic even though they’re cheaper, better presented, and last and project like beasts, let me remind you that our Western flanker versions; Intense, Elixir, Extreme, new Parfum, etc., are a consequence of the situation we ourselves allowed. So be careful with the permissive message we send to the industry with our purchases. And it’s not valid to sell us excuses with IFRA regulations to finance their business greed and allow them to LIQUIDATE, REDUCE, ADULTERATE, and CUT THE WINGS of their own perfumes. Thanks for reading, folks 🙂
I think it’s unisex. I’ve gotten compliments and it smells great: the cherry really stands out, and there’s a slight alcoholic note at the base. Its trail and projection are moderate. I wouldn’t recommend it for young people or for blind buys.
Bought it a few months ago, June 2024. It was a February 2024 batch that intrigued me with its cherry note; I thought it would be super sweet, but I was disappointed because it’s not that sweet at all. It’s very sober and elegant, quite restrained in both scent and projection. Smells dry with an almond note and a touch of floral lavender; you can detect spices but I can’t pinpoint which ones. It gives a vibrant touch to the opening, and after 15-20 minutes it dries down to reveal a fresh cherry, with a floral vanilla contribution and a permanent dark touch from the incense. It closes with the exquisite touch of tonka; the leathers are subtle, not marked, but they add something sophisticated and woody thanks to the sandalwood. Lasts 8 to 10 hours on skin, but projection isn’t strong after the first hour; the sillage shortens significantly, and by the second hour it’s skin-only. Lasts forever on clothes, so I recommend mixing sprays between skin and fabric to improve performance. Personal experience: it wasn’t what I expected, but I liked it quite a bit. Would I buy it again? Until it runs out, depending on how much it’s been re-re-reformulated, maybe not, but if it stays the same, yes. Does it deliver? Yes, and by a lot. The most repeated comment is “how elegant” rather than “how good you smell,” it’s to my liking and much more masculine than one might think.
What a delicious perfume! I barely knew it, and the opening didn’t convince me at first, but it evolves incredibly over time. Lately, it’s the one I use most; after 10 minutes, the cherry and tonka bean become more noticeable, making it sweeter and creamier, and by the hour, a super sexy, seductive, and magnetic vanilla appears. It has incredible longevity, projecting for sure 6 hours and on skin more than 12 (at least for me). And if that weren’t enough, women love it! It’s a masculine fragrance, elegant, versatile, sophisticated, sexy, seductive, and sweet, but not cloying; it’s an addictive combination. It’s ideal for dates, going out, or formal events, but works almost in any occasion. I highly recommend it, try it on skin to feel the full experience; it definitely doesn’t fail.
One of my first loves in the fragrance world. The opening can seem a bit chaotic or medicinal, but after 10 minutes, that unmistakable cherry, almond, and leather accord with a sweet base really shines through. For those who know how to enjoy and wear it, it’s a showstopper. Quality and composition at niche level. *Note: I’m unaware of current formulations; this review is based on one of the early batches with colored edges.*
I absolutely love this perfume 😍. It has a beautiful opening that reminds me of cherry gummies, and without a doubt, the cherry accord is the star. Over time, the cherry and almond wrap around everything, blending perfectly with rose and vanilla; I think the rose gives it that dusty sensation that, along with the cherry, adds a very pleasant innocence for cold days and elegant occasions. I don’t perceive the leather too much; it’s more of a background accent that adds maturity and depth. I see it as unisex, but I doubt young men would like it because it strays from party trends like JPG, Versace Eros, or Invictus; it’s something more unique for a creative person who doesn’t want to smell like everyone else. In the last few hours, the cherry fades and leaves a vanilla, almost caramelized scent that I adore. I have a bottle with a black cap (2022 batch) and it projects decently for the first hour, then settles into a personal bubble. It easily lasts 7 hours on skin, and I believe L’Homme Ideal EDP is for special occasions or dates; with that longevity, it’s more than enough. Plus, it’s very accessible in price, and Guerlain always delivers excellent quality. For me, it’s a 10/10. That said, it’s not a blind buy, as I don’t think the masses will like it.
A true masterpiece! One of the few fragrances where I can clearly perceive the evolution from top, heart, and base; each with its own charm, but the dry down is absolutely delicious.
I’ve been testing this for the office for two weeks and it has surprised me. It lasts great from 8 AM until evening, but with a personal, close-to-the-skin sillage. It has a peculiar, formal aroma; it’s heavy but not overwhelming, and it doesn’t get cloying because it’s not overly sweet. The first time I sprayed two pumps on my chest and what a mistake! It was quite too much, so be careful with the amount as it clings heavily to clothes. I barely detect the cherry, and the leather is subtle. In the end, Guerlain’s almond stands out and wraps everything. Sometimes it smells like old slate in a classroom with chalk, reminding me of childhood. It has a distinguished scent and nothing commercial. For autumn, winter, or the office, I see it as a pleasant formal option for any age. I give it a 9/10; I’m really eager to try another version of the ‘Homme Ideal’ line. I found it on sale for $50, though I’ve seen it retail for up to triple that. Well done by Guerlain, a house I’m just starting to discover. March 2024 batch, crystal clear bottle with a color resembling blueberry juice. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Tested on skin and dry after two sprays. I was torn between this EDP, the Extreme version, and the Hugo Boss Bottle Elixir, so I tried them all together. The opening was disappointing; I expected that juicy cherry but it wasn’t noticeable, almost like the scent was muted (it was from the first batch with brown edges). After 10 minutes, that cherry starts to emerge, intensifies, and smells incredible, like a cherry wrapped in suede. This is where I like it, though I expected something fresher. It reminded me of the drydown of Dior Homme Intense. I liked it quite a bit, but I was expecting something else. I think I’ll go with the Extreme version.
Perfume bomb! One of my favorite lines. That almond and cherry-avocado blend is perfect for these autumn dates. It’s not overly projecting, but you can definitely feel it. What I love most is the dry down: I’ve been wearing it for a few days and keep thinking, ‘this sounds familiar and I like it.’ As expected, it ends up being one of my favorites, just like Prada L’Homme Intense. Indeed, they share the same notes. It’s wonderful how two fragrances start on different paths but end up in the same place.
Excellent option for any occasion except hot sunny days; it can be heavy if you sweat a lot since it’s creamy and sweet. On my skin, the almond and creamy tonka bean notes dominate, very long-lasting thanks to the leather, with a delicious cherry opening that lasts between 30 minutes and an hour. Perfect for a night out on a date.
Smells like a praliné bonbon but with a masculine twist. Very good.
Cherry, almond, and leather: that’s the summary. It smells great, though the cherry feels a bit synthetic, like cough syrup, but that gives it its character. It’s neither cheap nor expensive, and it’s perfect for cold days.
So delicious I bought it just for myself. Performance and olfactory quality are at a niche level. I love it.
A very particular and rich aroma. It’s a bold formulation with personality, yet elegant and formal. At first, you feel all the spice notes, and over time, the leather, vanilla, and incense come to the forefront. It’s a fragrance for dressing well. The cherry note is there, but somewhat synthetic; it doesn’t feel much, I think to avoid feeling ‘feminine’ (sad, because I just wanted something that smelled more like cherry). Projection and longevity haven’t pleased me entirely, but I think it’s a quality/price perfume.
Pleasant perfume, masculine, with quite faint trail and longevity. Recently I tested this fragrance at a retail store but I’m confused; the salesperson told me the concentration was ‘parfum’ not Eau de Parfum. Said that, the perfume I tested was very cherry-forward with leather and spices; the cherry note was quite noticeable. When I bought this, I see it’s more almond, cherry, vanilla, and yes, leather, but the cherry isn’t as strong as in that other fragrance, so I ask you, perfume buddies: Is there a parfum version of this fragrance with a cherry note from Guerlain? If so, tell me the name because I don’t see another from this brand with that olfactive note. What I have is quite faint and doesn’t last very long, so to speak. I’ll try to macerate it in its box and keep it in the dark, but I don’t know if it’ll ever feel like that one. As things stand, it’s a good perfume and I liked it, but maybe my disappointment lies in the fact that I was wrong or the salesperson was, but if one thing I’m sure of, the cherry note is unforgettable, since it was masculine and distinct from all the sweet/leather/vanilla perfumes.
Very tasty, but the longevity is terrible, and it doesn’t project anything; it stays only on the skin.
Excellent flanker in the saga. The predominant cherry, along with almond and hints of incense and rose, makes it unique, paying homage to niche perfumes rather than commercial ones. The quality is, as with all Guerlain, excellent. While we can follow the thought that ‘not every sexy fragrance needs to be explosive and have brutal performance,’ the truth is it doesn’t project or leave a trail. Almost immediately atomized for a personal plane for several hours; only those who get very close (besides us, of course) will perceive it. It’s delicious, very well constructed, easy to wear… but the performance leaves something to be desired, unless you’re on the intimate perfumes team.
Don’t take my opinion on this perfume seriously because the more I test it, the more I realize I’m a crazy sweet perfume lover, so I’m not objective nor do I pretend to be. I’ve seen many people bashing this Guerlain line, saying the renowned house has lost its quality standards, and I can only ask myself if this is the bad stuff; how must their perfumes from their good days have been, sir? True, this is a more gustatory than original or artistic perfume, and to be honest, half the notes in that pyramid are just decoration (this could be my inexperienced nose, though the vote percentages seem to say the same), but I’m advancing that this perfume is a 10/10 and I love it. It opens with those extremely pleasant and sweet spices, and immediately the skeleton of the perfume is revealed; it’s not a perfume with a crazy evolution, but those opening spices fade and the vanilla accentuates, becoming more delicate. As for the controversial cherry, it’s true it’s not the most noble note and can disappoint those looking for a branch cherry; this is more of a maraschino cherry, even a cherry caramel, I think the latter is more accurate because that cherry accord mixed with incense and spices reminds me distantly of a cherry Halls. I think this composition is what makes many people dislike it, but I love it; I still don’t know if it’s because I’m not a purist of notes or because enough sweet and vanilla fixes everything for me; it turns out to be a charming aroma even if the components aren’t ultra-high quality. Regarding the famous almond, which is the soul of the line, the truth is I don’t feel it as a protagonist; it has a hint and is tasty, but the cherry and vanilla eat it up on my skin; if I didn’t know it had almond, I’d surely confuse it with the vanilla background and slightly almond note, very, very subtle. Some even say elegant, and I almost agree; the base is very well placed; when the cherry stops being so loud, this EDP even passes as a classy perfume. The leather and incense add the just right touch of masculinity, but this is unisex; the woman who wears it will break hearts. Especially in the dry-down on my skin, it’s net feminine; the cherry and leather hint blend into the tonka bean, which ends up winning the match against all, it’s well-upped but unlike others, it feels tasteful (too many loud coumarins are avoided). After 8 hours, that vanilla aftertaste hasn’t faded yet, so longevity is quite good; the trail is moderate leaning towards light, which I think is a success and adds to the elegant aspect. A perfume strictly for cold weather and special occasions; it’s pricey, but I’d buy it without a doubt.
The perfume that got me the most compliments from my collection. An exquisite niche aroma, with a creamy almond, a somewhat synthetic but delicious cherry, and a rose-incense combination that gives it notable depth. Totally elegant perfume, versatile for autumns and winters, varying between days and nights. The projection isn’t great, but the trail it leaves is noticeable from meters away, announcing your arrival to a certain place. Longevity is excellent for a perfume of these characteristics: 8 to 10 hours without issues. Without a doubt, at the designer level, I rate this a 9.5/10 with total confidence. A great success in the Guerlain L’Homme line; I’d choose it over all the others.
I have about 50 perfumes, and this is one of the ones that lasts the least on skin. Exactly 45 minutes. I’m not even talking about the zero projection. 2025 batch. It feels like a lie. Literally. Please refrain from buying this. A flash of cherry projects more.
A strange aroma, and not in an interesting way. The opening smells like a hospital or cough syrup, as others rightly pointed out. As it dries down, the cherry manages to feel slightly on my skin in a somewhat intriguing way, which makes it even more frustrating: from a distance it might seem passable, but as you get closer, the smell gets worse. It’s not an absolute disaster, but I’m frustrated feeling it lacks identity. I sniff it compulsively, not because I like it, but because I’m confused. What is this? What is it trying to be? And most importantly: who would wear this? Sometimes it smells like cherry, then incense, then syrup, hospital, or bathroom air freshener. No note stands out or defines itself entirely; it’s confusing. A failed and pretentious attempt that would have been at least interesting, or less frustrating, if Guerlain had decided what it wanted it to smell like, whether incense or cherry. Which one did they aim for? I suppose we’ll be left with the question. Who do I imagine wearing this? I picture a guy around 40 or 45 years old, the kind who doesn’t have much personality but is convinced he’s interesting.
Guerlain L’Homme Idéal EDP is a refined and seductive take on the classic masculine gourmand. It opens with freshness: bergamot, rosemary, and lavender that give way to a heart of almond, cherry, vanilla, and incense—sweet and present. The base of leather, tonka, and sandal adds body and warmth, maintaining elegance and structure. It’s not a ‘beast mode,’ but it shines with refined, close presence. Solid performance: reliable longevity and a trail that leaves an impression without being overwhelming. Perfect for dates or dinners where you want to convey a polished, modern vibe without being too youthful or overbearing.
This perfume is challenging: it challenges sweet ingredients like vanilla, tonka, and cherry to become a masculine scent, a bit of mature adult, but quite masculine and elegant. It balances well, giving a serious profile where cherry is the protagonist alongside rich incense (I understand some might smell it like syrup, probably due to extra ingredients in recreating the cherry), though for me, it’s a dark profile. I’ve tried other cherry scents, and none are as dark as this. If you’re looking for that, it’s a rich scent I recommend trying first; lasting power and projection are quite good.
It’s a perfume with a lot of body, heavy and dense… Sweet, warm, and very incense-forward, almost harsh. You can detect the cherry and incense over a base of creamy almond. It smells like sweet smoke, cherry-tinted, but loaded with ash… A very particular niche scent, smells quite unisex. The quality of the notes is excellent, as is the whole line. Very good longevity and moderate-to-potent projection, which is ideal because if it were more potent, it would be one of those that clash… Perfect for autumn, winter, or a cool spring night.
After 5 months of maceration, I’m updating the review. It lasts well, projects well, and smells incredibly rich. I agree with another review: it’s a collection of feminine notes forced to be masculine. Very intense on cherry and sweet, but with leather present and very creamy. Something rare to find, and Guerlain didn’t disappoint. The almond, vanilla, and other notes round out the aroma, making it better and more aggressive. I confirm my previous review: yes, it’s exactly as I remember the tester (I suppose it was well-macerated).
There are many regrets in perfumery… with this one, I regret not buying the 100ml bottle. One of my favorites, elegant in a rare way, with a unique aroma dominated by leather, cherry, almond, and a touch of lavender. Without a doubt, it’s a delight for cold and fresh climates. It has great body, is dense, with good initial projection and excellent lasting power of 9 to 12 hours. It will definitely be one of my first choices for special occasions.
My official fragrance and first review. It could only come from a top global house; years of dedication and quality ingredients make Guerlain truly superlative. If you get the chance, buy it, but not blindly—it won’t suit everyone. It gets lots of compliments from women, though it’s neutral, it suits a man better. It’s intoxicating without being a beast mode. I see it for temperatures below 15-17 degrees, though I wear it all day; it shines even more at night. I’m new to this world, but it’s one of the most unique and charming fragrances.
Smells amazing, a blend of cherry with woods, a hint of almond, and a smoky, dusty touch. It’s very different from commercial scents—nothing weird, but definitely masculine and elegant.
Delicious cherry and almond liqueur…lightly smoked with spices. Subtle, sweet, and powdery, a bright and elegant opening where the cherry takes the lead. Then a sweet vanilla touch enters until it fades away in the last hours. Moderate but pleasant projection, lasting about 7 to 8 hours. To me, it’s exquisite, but ideal for special and family occasions. 10/10.
I’ve tested it quite a bit before writing this review. To me, it blends two concepts: sweet and deep. It’s complex; the blend is exquisite and you can’t easily distinguish individual scents, which makes it special (especially as it dries down). I’m not a huge fan of the opening; it feels distant from the intended vibe. The almond note is super prominent, but I don’t enjoy the bergamot mix with the other components much—the rosemary and thyme together give me a seasoned food vibe. It doesn’t smell bad, just my opinion. Lasts 10-15 minutes at first. Then comes the best part: a tart (not sugary) cherry that contrasts with a light but deep vanilla, an almost cosmetic rose, and frankincense that rounds it off into something mysterious. The heart lasts 4-5 hours perfectly, with 3 hours of projection. The dry down has charm: tonka, light leather (just for depth), and sandalwood. The skin scent lasts another 4-5 hours. I agree it has feminine undertones, but the frankincense and leather make it masculine, though don’t expect to smell like a stereotypical man; it’s a deep scent. Quality and performance: don’t expect miracles, but it lasts long enough and projects well for the first 3 hours. It’s for specific use: dates, night, autumn, winter, or cold springs; it overpowers in heat. Price: 4.5/10, Sillage/Projection: 7.5/10, Versatility: 5/10, Scent: 8.5/10. It’s a great designer perfume that touches niche. Imagine walking into a luxury mansion with leather armchairs, burning incense, a table of cherries and nuts, and an expensive woman sitting there wearing the best rose and vanilla perfume. It smells unique.
Sweet and addictive. From the bottle I have, the longevity is very good. I especially love that it doesn’t smell too masculine.
Pfff, I read so much about the famous leather, but you can’t even smell it here. If you’re looking for the L’Homme Ideal masculine scent where the leather actually stands out, buy the Intense version 🫰; that one truly smells like a man. This EDP is very unisex and smells girly. Cheers.
Cherry, almond, and super creamy sweet vanilla, but balanced by a nice touch of incense and subtle leather. An incredible rose makes it round and complete. Usually comes at a good price and lasts long; Guerlain’s vanilla is natural and realistic. Note: it’s for 30+, it can seem mature, but otherwise, it’s the ideal man’s perfume.
