Excellent perfume
A perfume I ran away from a thousand times, the only one in the line I couldn’t stand, has turned into one I can’t stop using. It’s bottled autumn. With the typical sophistication of Guerlain and its quality guarantee, we find a warm aroma where bitter almond reigns, giving an amaretto sensation. With moderate projection and 6-hour longevity. It’s a perfume I hated a lot; everyone around me knows I couldn’t stand it. Its aroma drilled into my nose, it hurt my soul that I didn’t like it, and I kept trying it but always provoked a bad reaction. One day I tried it again, after a long time since I had given up, and I felt I was falling in love with it. So I bought it and I’m fascinated by its scent (that’s what tastes, scents, and the right moment are…). This perfume is bottled amaretto, smells like autumn, it’s a very warm almond with a very sweet tonka bean, but the mix with its notes makes a bitter yet not unpleasant aroma. Its longevity is about 6 hours, let’s say, and a trail of 1 meter, not very potent, even this one which is the old formulation, but it becomes very pleasant to wear and wraps you up. It’s a warm, typical autumnal aroma that makes you feel in harmony, cozy. It has notes of leather and almonds, citrus, vetiver, and tonka bean among others. Its longevity is medium and its trail is low. It’s an intimate perfume; I have to use about ten sprays to feel it with me. Moral of the story: don’t reject any perfume forever. My bottle is from the early batches, where the sticker on the back looks like a QR code, and it’s not too potent anyway. It’s worth having if you’re fascinated by this line and like the aroma because it really is worth it, but its performance leaves a lot to be desired.
This perfume is a beast. A jewel in perfumery. Almond and tonka notes are divine. A bomb in performance, a fragrance that no one has ever rejected. A low-pants perfume. One of the most exquisite body aromas I’ve tried. It’s hard to imitate, but if you want something more affordable, you can look for: Legend by Michael Jordan, Bogart pour homme, Jacquet, Bogart Dream Big, Benetton United Dream. All are very similar.
This perfume for cold weather is incredible, one of the best commercial ones I have. I used it last night, and honestly, it’s a great magnet for girls. 8 out of 10.
A totally masculine and modern perfume. For casual or semi-formal use. It’s been a decade since its launch. It’s very similar to Guerlain L’Homme Ideal EDP but without the boozy cherry. Longevity is 6 hours on skin, 1 hour of projection, and its trail is weak. But its aroma is one of the best.
Batch 2020, pre-new formulation. High-quality fragrance in a beautiful bottle, ideal for cold or fresh climates. Lasts about 6 hours on me, all day on clothes. The first hour projects to a meter, then fades but keeps throwing nice bursts. I like its behavior. You can feel the almond (characteristic of the line), the sweetness of tonka, and a leather note that isn’t my favorite but closes it off well. I don’t feel it’s light; rather, the opposite. Ideal for semi-formal work environments and dates, always with good attire. Recommended to grab a batch before the last reformulation, the one from the previous bottle. 9/10.
I generally agree with the others. An exquisite, elegant, sweet but masculine aroma, a delight. But performance is low in longevity and projection. You have to dust it on with joy, and still, it’s barely noticeable after a while, stays close to the skin, and in a few hours you perceive nothing, at least in my case. In the end, I’m using it as an aftershave lotion; when I splash it all over my face, it lasts a bit longer, although there are cheaper options for that.
I’ve had a new bottle for 20 months without the black edge, and an old one with few ml left. I feel a huge difference between both. I wanted to let the new one ‘macerate’ and take its time, but it’s not the same anymore. I’m not talking so much about longevity, as they remain similar, but about composition. The new one feels simplified; maybe they changed cheap molecules or I don’t know, but the residual aroma of the old atomizer (bought in 2020) is different from the new one. The old one didn’t feel robust, deep, and quality-rich, bordering on niche. The current one isn’t bad, but it lost its charm and depth; it’s more simplified, with less identity and body. The previous formula was more recognizable and unique. Even smelling it brings me back to memories of when I first met the fragrance… the new one doesn’t bring those associations.
The fragrance that got me hooked on this beautiful addiction of collecting scents. I was visiting my best friend’s house and found this striking, hyper-elegant bottle with black edges in his bathroom. The name ‘The Ideal Man’ captivated me; I popped the cap, and I could only open my eyes in surprise. I’ve never been a fan of sweet perfumes; I had the scent of my grandfather’s fougères in my memory. From ages 26 to 30, I only wore Paco Rabanne, but this flipped my script when I felt that non-cloying sweetness of almonds and leather; I was stunned. I started searching for that lucky bottle and couldn’t find it; I hesitated a lot because the version I had lacked the black edges. The saleswoman assured me it was the same, so I took it. I’m still enchanted three years later. I use it less than a quarter of the time for dates, but personally, it lasts me very well with 5-6 sprays. Exquisite scent of almonds, subtle leather, and tonka bean. It gives a certain impression of cleanliness.
It’s my favorite L’Homme Ideal. The flankers? Skip them. Sweet and elegant scent: the almond heart is undeniable, just like the orange at the start and cedar at the end. Goes with everything and suits any occasion. Perfect as a signature scent. Maybe it’s too proper and mature for life’s wild shots and the ‘cute crazy’ guys who ask for forgiveness before permission. A perfume for the dandy, not the rough rogue. Closer to Sean Connery than Marlon Brando. L’Homme Ideal EDT is a classic. Decades will pass, and it will remain immovable on the shelves of those who know how to appreciate it.
A classy gem, ideal for cold days but works perfectly in spring too. The orange blossom opening is exquisite, and by 15 minutes, you feel the tonka bean and a soft leather. The star is the almond, masculine here, though a woman could wear it too. 100% recommended.
L’Homme Idéal is an exceptional fragrance for the modern man seeking something distinctive and sophisticated. The almond note, highlighted in the heart, stands out for its beauty and uniqueness. It’s not just sweet; it has a subtle creaminess that adds richness and depth. It envelops the senses with warmth and comfort, making it memorable and addictive. Combined with tonka bean and woods, it creates a perfect harmony that highlights individuality. This touch of almond distinguishes L’Homme Idéal, adding a gourmet and sophisticated dimension that is masculine and elegant. Best regards from Argentina, Emiliano, always in harmony.
This EDT came by accident at my parents’ house; there was a box with the EDP and shower gel, and no one knew who it belonged to, so they gifted it to me. I can’t give an extensive review, but here goes: I’m lucky to have a 2017 batch, the bottle with black edges. It’s elegant yet casual at the same time, very versatile. It works all year, but especially on cool days. The almond and tonka bean convey warmth, and the leather adds a lot of relaxation. Good longevity on skin and even better on clothes.
Just bought it, and I don’t care if they reformulated it or not; it still projects well, and the smell is spectacular. Buy it and you won’t regret it; women love it. I prefer the original over the flanker, but every nose is different.
To be honest, I bought it blindly based on Mr. Félix’s reviews saying you need to own a Guerlain. The first spray on my forearm made me fall in love; a unique scent I’d never perceived before. I’ll start wearing it all week to form a more accurate opinion, but right now, it’s spectacular.
Tested on dry skin. I already tried the Extreme version and I’m hooked. This smells the same, but the concentration feels slightly lighter. I’d go straight for the Extreme, which is a gem. Still, the scent is practically identical.
Very nice scent with just the right amount of sweetness to avoid being cloying. It resembles the EDP, Parfum, and Extrem, but it’s more subtle, making it the most versatile of all. Except for summer or the gym, it works for everything. Longevity is more than acceptable, surpassing seven hours, and it projects well for the first two. 2024 batch.
I love it; it was my signature. I’m looking for older batches or a replacement because the one I bought in 2024 doesn’t resemble the earlier ones (2015-2021). Longevity has dropped significantly, but I’m still thrilled. It’s a scent different from the conventional yet easy to enjoy, with a super-perceptible almond in the heart that I haven’t found anywhere else. Ideal for the office, especially now that it doesn’t project as much as when it first launches.
September 2023 batch. I’m wearing it after trying some Gentleman G-style perfumes. It smells sweet but not cloying. I’ve had it for a couple of weeks, and the longevity is laughable: after two hours on skin or clothes, it’s barely noticeable. What a shame because here in Colombia, it’s not cheap. My take is that it’s no longer worth spending a dime on these ‘little waters.’ Better to stick with Arabians that give more for less or try new niche perfumers who offer much better quality at the same price. I’ll keep this for a few months to see if oxidation improves it, but I doubt it.
Citrus, floral, almond, and woody. A very well-executed design, one of my favorites from the line (maybe even the best). It opens fresh with a creamy almond note that defines it. As it dries down, it becomes woody with a subtle vanilla touch—not the star, but with a pleasant sweetness. Suitable for any occasion, especially in cold weather, with decent longevity. For the price, it’s a worth-it option.
When you’re looking for a unique, well-constructed, high-quality aroma without clones, with versatility, elegance, and sexuality, this is the one. Almost all notes are perceptible, with almond being the protagonist throughout the fragrance’s life. It has moderate performance, but that works in my favor for a date, especially if there’s proximity. A gem in perfumery at a modest price, your first niche fragrance.
My first Guerlain perfume; I bought it blind and it didn’t disappoint. It’s elegant, sophisticated, and subtle; ideal for smelling good without drawing attention. The almond scent is very perceptible, accompanied by woody notes that make it unusual, warm, and very pleasant. I wish it lasted longer, but it doesn’t matter; you can always apply another layer at 4 hours, which is how long it lasts for me; I suppose it depends a lot on skin type.
Review to vent (haha). I found my old empty bottle of batch 9G01 and the trapped aroma is truly delicious, what quality. What a pity they changed the ingredients; the new one doesn’t have even half the quality of the original. If you overapply, there are weird nuances; at the sillage level it doesn’t smell bad, it’s pleasant but it lacks the magic of the original formula.
Danny, are you referring to the 9GO1 batch from 2019? They’re offering me one and I’m about to buy it. Best regards.
My first Guerlain, and honestly, the name fits perfectly. A very good price for the quality it offers.
Great fragrance, slightly sweet, with almond as the star and a present woody base. Ideal for autumn and winter, but can be worn in warmer climates. It’s designed as a mature scent, but I think for those over 25 and in semi-formal occasions, it’s a great resource. It has decent longevity, beating the current average, with moderate sillage.
Delicious and for personal enjoyment. I see it as elegant and versatile, totally distinctive. Smells like almond with something more, a blend that gives you energy. It’s not a beast in terms of projection, but in intimate spaces, it’s very noticeable. Given the price and the quality it conveys, it’s 100% recommended.
Sweet and different (hard to find these days). Finding a sweet perfume with quality amidst the monotony of mainstream options is satisfying. L’Homme Ideal EDT opens with citrus and floral notes, with an almond note noticeable in the background. It evolves by sweetening slightly with exquisite tonka and a distinguished almond that adds elegance with a touch of comforting leather. At the end, it’s barely powdery and sweet. Lasts 6-7 hours on skin with just right projection. Very flattering in aroma and quality.
It happens to me like with Byzance: from start to finish, I notice a single note of bitter, monotonous, and tenacious almond. I don’t dislike it, but I get bored wearing it and choose it rarely. Try it, live with it, and decide for yourself. My favorite so far remains Heritage…
It became my signature scent: versatile and unique, I’ve never smelled anything like it. Perfect for mild climates and even daytime events, but avoid extreme heat; it lasts all day. Great for work, movies, dates, or casual outings whenever you want to smell good. It’s not the loudest fragrance; it’s made to linger, not to grab attention. In Mexico, you can get it at an accessible price, and considering the quality, it’s a fantastic buy.
The most versatile in the line, yet it remains elegant; it’s the perfect perfume for the office because it conveys class without overwhelming. Regarding the reformulation, I have the new version; I let it mature for a month and a half, and it now has better performance; the liquid changes color. My advice: use it for a couple of days and store it; you’ll see the results. Unique aroma due to the almond mixed with citrus (it smells clearly like orange to me); as it dries, tonka bean and woods become apparent. For me, the leather isn’t perceptible like in later versions. Excellent quality perfume at a good price, as only Guerlain knows how to do. No Arab can stand up to it: they might last 48 hours and project 200 meters, but class isn’t improvised.
If you want a single fragrance but are tired of the ‘blue’ DNA, this is an excellent option. It starts citrusy and ends more woody and sweet, but always with that almond present. Notice that the almond is like a drier, slightly bitter vanilla, very pleasant and zero cloying (though not for the beach). The quality seems unreal and the aroma so unique for such a low price; you can get the 150ml bottle for under $70 if you know where to look. For me, it’s a 10/10; I think it would still be worth it even if it cost double.
Blessed be the creator, a divine work of art. This is class, good taste, and pure elegance. Soapy, like a fine barbershop soap, sweet without being cloying. The citrus note with bergamot and bitter orange with rosemary gives freshness that transitions into exquisite creaminess thanks to the almond, tonka bean, and that wonderful leather with my beloved vetiver and cedar. Right at the exact point of olfactory beauty… I’m in love, heartbroken, and ecstatic that I let this Guerlain jewel slip away, which rarely disappoints with its delicious fragrances. Very much in the style of Dior Homme, too similar to my taste. A true work of art that becomes my cult obsession.
Alright, we’ve reached the last one in my collection, and I think it’s the best in terms of quality. As for the olfactory experience, when I started collecting, I didn’t understand why this fragrance was so acclaimed; to me, it seemed a bit unusual and hard to grasp. But today, with a more developed sense of smell and having tried so much, I believe Guerlain, a house that doesn’t advertise as much as Dior, Armani, or Rabanne, is a brand that doesn’t need commercials. They know what they’re doing, deliver high-quality aromas, and work behind the scenes, offering products other houses would kill for. In my opinion, it fits the line of Dior Homme Intense: refined, suitable for daily use depending on the context. Longevity: good, 6-8 hours (1h projection), which seems fair for an EDT; letting it rest for a couple of months helps. The liquid darkens with oxygen. Projection: moderate, it doesn’t need to be incisive; it creates a personal bubble that goes unnoticed, which is the magic: it conveys class and elegance without everyone noticing it from 3 meters away. Sillage: moderate, don’t expect to leave a 3-meter trail; it’s good but nothing extreme; the aura is sober, elegant, and classy. Compliments: yes, surprisingly; it’s not the most praised, but when people notice it, they wonder what you’re wearing. In a world of Sauvage, Invictus, Eros, etc., smelling different is refreshing. Rule 1: if you wear it, wear at least a shirt, preferably long-sleeved; I can’t imagine it with a t-shirt or shorts; it demands a casual-elegant look (oxford shirt, chinos or khaki, shoes to your discretion). Rule 2: although it’s versatile, I personally wouldn’t wear it in summer; its sweet, woody, and leather notes can be heavy in the heat, better for autumn-winter. Age: 15-19, forget it for school, try others; 20-25, save it for dates, weddings, or important presentations, not as daily wear unless your city is cold; 25+, it can be your signature for the office if you want to convey security, sobriety, and elegance. Hope I’ve answered your questions, best.
Hello, gentlemen. This is one of my best perfumes: elegant and sophisticated in all its glory. It’s versatile and works for any occasion. Its projection is moderate, but its great strength is the quality of the notes, which are refined and well-crafted. Almond, tonka bean, rosemary, and leather are balanced, creating a harmonious composition. It’s the best option to start with this line; I use it especially for dates. I’ve received compliments from women 30 and up (I’m 27). Without a doubt, a blind buy totally recommended. It smells like freshly baked almond and vanilla dessert, so I suggest wearing it in the afternoon/evening. On me: longevity 5h, projection 1h, personal bubble 1h, skin sillage 3h, trail 1.5m (1h). Recommended as a signature scent for the office, dates, semi-formal events, and meetings with friends/family. Not recommended for clubs, sports, or formal events. Recommended age: 30+. 7/10: elegant, sophisticated, and versatile.
From now on, it’s one of my favorites, and I hope to keep buying editions for my collection. I was surprised by its freshness and how delicious it is. People might call me crazy, but at first, I detected a certain resemblance to Versace Eros; over time, it becomes more elegant, where the tonka bean and almond come into their own. I’ll keep testing, but honestly, it’s recommended if you’re looking for something for autumn-winter.
It’s not for me. It seems too almond-y and sweet.
I tried it at an airport and loved it so much I bought it on the spot. Smells great, elegant, and perfect for the office. Best for men 30+. Unfortunately, I’ve used it so much lately that it’s starting to bore me a bit, but it still smells amazing.
Wow, a blind buy. I’m 41 and was looking for something more mature; I had good references and high hopes. I wore it on New Year’s Eve and it didn’t disappoint: you can tell the ingredients are high quality since it’s a designer scent; it smells delicious, elegant, and masculine. The sweetness isn’t cloying; sweet almond takes the lead. It’s not a ‘beast mode,’ but the longevity is acceptable: with 5 sprays, it stayed close to my skin until the next day. It doesn’t project much or leave an overwhelming trail. I wish the bottle had a black cap; it looks nicer, but the liquid is what matters. I recommend it 100%, no regrets on the blind buy, and I’d love to try the other flankers.
I love it, very elegant and unique, but watch out: it doesn’t last more than a few hours on me.
