  • First impression on blotter: very, very similar to the Cologne. I no longer have the discontinued version to compare them side by side, but the feeling is almost identical, with the difference that here the neroli has more prominence and it’s perhaps a bit less creamy. I felt it had better performance. So far, all good news; the bad news is the price…

Tested on skin, it feels like a discounted version of the L’Homme Ideal EDT. At first, it smells much more citrusy, but that sensation lasts only 15-20 minutes; then the original Ideal’s almond base comes out. Unlike Stelie, I do perceive it as creamy. Is it more versatile than the EDT? Pff, maybe; it could work in warm climates, but I don’t see it for extreme heat. Since I already have the Extreme, I’m seriously considering buying this because it’s a scent I love. That said, I’m waiting for a price drop, because the ECI retail price is 127€ for 100ml, which is crazy.

L’Homme Ideal Platine Privé is fresh and aromatic. It opens with a very pleasant citrus note that quickly transitions to that almond and floral base of the original without many surprises afterward. Unlike the Cologne, the citrus doesn’t last as long here, and the base is less musky. It’s the fresh version of the original Ideal: less sweet, no vanilla or tonka bean, with a woody touch that makes it super versatile (even more than the EDT). It works all year round but shines in heat, spring, summer, or autumn. Perfect for casual or semi-formal use. Performance is decent, about 7 hours with a regular trail. If you know the line, buy it blind; if not, test it first, because if you like it, it’s a limited edition that won’t last.

  • I’ve been testing new releases, and this was my only highlight of the day. I had no high hopes; the Ideal line has been reformulated so much that buying bottles in official stores is already ridiculous. But when I tested it, my mind went back to that discontinued Ideal Cologne, and over time, I see it’s even better: it evolves into an almond neroli that, without the freshness of Allure, makes a semi-sweet scent wearable in high temperatures. The price is disproportionately high, as always, but that doesn’t make the perfume worse.

Tested at ECI and the truth is: for the average user, it’s identical to L’Homme Ideal Cologne. Don’t act stupid and pay a fortune on Wallapop; this is popping up everywhere and smells exactly the same.

Actually, it’s a limited edition that isn’t even sold in physical stores. You can only buy it online at very high prices (125 euros). I think the summery COOL version has been discontinued too. A bit of an irreverent marketing move, honestly.

  • I felt brave enough to write this after trying it yesterday at an El Corte Inglés. Starting from the fact that I haven’t been lucky enough to try the discontinued Cologne version, I can say this is a more versatile version of the EDT, less sweet, and more citrusy/fresh. I have the dry-down, and the scent still lingers, but on skin, it leaves me a bit underwhelmed on performance. The sales associate sprayed it 3 times, and after 4-5 hours, I could barely smell it even pressing my nose close. Recommended for those who like the line’s scent. This one, without a doubt, will please you too. Although, as you’ve noted, the price is outrageous.

Personally, I’d only buy this if you really miss the Cologne version, which, if I recall correctly, is already discontinued despite launching in 2015. Neither performance nor scent offers anything new, groundbreaking, or worth the hype. I feel this line is overexploited and deserves a break. As for performance, it’s not a selling point either: barely 5 hours even with heavy application, and only 2 hours with any projection.

Wonderful. I found a batch with lots of grapefruit that transitions into a very wearable neroli and almond, something creamy and very fresh. Maybe the Cologne is more citrusy, with a bitter touch and much fresher. It really smells incredible. It reminded me of Tygar for that explosive grapefruit opening that lasts the first 2 hours (gradually decreasing until giving way to the middle notes). Its performance is very good at temperatures above 25°C. Unfortunately, Guerlain warned it as a ‘limited edition,’ and today in October 2024, it’s almost impossible to find. Highly recommended 100%.

Wonderful. It’s an opening scent heavy on grapefruit that transitions into a very wearable neroli and almond, creamy and fresh. Perhaps the Cologne is more citrusy, with a bitter touch and feels much fresher. Honestly, it smells incredible; it reminded me of Tygar with that explosive grapefruit opening that lasts two hours. Its performance is great on 25°C weather. Unfortunately, Guerlain warned it’s a ‘limited edition,’ and as of October 2024, it’s almost impossible to find. 100% recommended.

Don’t confuse this with the heavy L’Homme Ideal Intense from 2018; they have nothing to do with each other. This Platine Privé 2023 is like mixing D&G Light Blue Forever (lots of grapefruit, ‘orange’ for some) with the citrus Cologne and a 10% of the original EDT to keep that musky base intact. Fresh, summery, charming, and top-tier Guerlain quality. Is it a beast mode fragrance? For me, with 100 perfumes in my collection, the answer is a hard no (I wouldn’t even buy it if it went mega-hype), but it could be perfect for any other consumer. Note: not for kids.

  • Available at El Corte Inglés. A scent that steps away from the quality of its siblings. It doesn’t bring anything new to the collection, but it’s worth trying before spending the fortune it commands. Fresh, pleasant, and long-lasting, yet nothing groundbreaking.

  • Hello, today I’m here to review this Guerlain beauty. I really love it; it’s a scent where grapefruit takes the lead, and as it dries down, the almond note—the signature of the Ideal line—emerges. I own the full collection and say it’s worth its weight in gold: it’s a must-have for collectors, a pure delight, reminiscent of the Cologne but with its own nuances. It’s elegant, draws compliments, and feels high-quality. If you’re a brand lover, go try it; you won’t regret it.

  • Fresh start of grapefruit and white flowers… gradually, that signature almond note of the line takes over, wrapped in a fruity nuance similar to the L’Homme Ideal EDP… Exquisite.

  • molletmod.73

It’s a modernized reissue, super collector’s item, and numbered, which means it sells out fast. It’s the ‘sophisticated’ version of the discontinued L’Homme Ideal Cologne (and leans toward the Cool and Sport versions), which we all remember was spectacular with that almond-musk blend, fresh citrus, and summery vibes. I get a slightly naughty, nocturnal vibe from this. If you love the saga or were a fan of the Cologne, you absolutely need to grab this. Come on, it flies off the shelves!

A masterpiece! The best Guerlain perfume. Rich, rich, rich. If you see it on sale, don’t hesitate to buy it.

  • Paco Lòpez

The best in the L’homme Idéal line! An improved version of the classic Cologne. If you want compliments, you can’t be without it.

Unfortunately, I’m here to confirm the negative points already mentioned. I was about to buy it blindly, but the price held me back a bit. A few days ago I tested it on skin and paper… and wow, it left me indifferent and disappointed; good thing I didn’t buy it blindly. I can’t even describe the scent well because the projection and longevity were so low I barely noticed it. The development, as I perceived it, had two parts: first a pleasant but generic citrus scent compared to the IDEAL family DNA; in the first 15-20 minutes I didn’t notice the DNA or any original note, just a good quality citrus. The heart phase arrived before half an hour, and I started perceiving the mother fragrance’s scent with fresher nuances, but basically it was the original DNA almost intact, the EDT with a bit more lemon and less sweet. Incredibly, at 90 minutes I had to press my nose against my skin to smell it; in dry-down it lasted very little. I thought that because of the “exclusivity” of the distribution, I’d get something of good quality in concept and raw materials, at least at the level of when this saga started and its first flankers… but no 🙁 As they said, the “exclusivity” is just marketing. It’s not even at the level of quality, originality, and performance of the mentioned COLOGNE, and I thought my review of that flanker was harsh… it wasn’t wrong compared to this “exclusive” flanker.

Fresh and elegant, but uncomplicated: it’s the ideal version to wear the L’homme Idéal DNA on hot summer days. Although I liked it, I didn’t buy it because I still have the Cool from the same line, which I love more for that mint note that makes it super refreshing. However, I don’t rule out buying it when I run out of my Cool bottle, since it seems to be discontinued.

L’Homme Idéal Platine Privé by Guerlain. It’s a men’s fragrance, but in such an elegant and subtle way that it’s extremely seductive, noble, and sophisticated. It’s about 85% similar to the Cologne, but to my nose, Platine Privé is fresher, creamier, and slightly powdery-sweet, whereas the Cologne is more citrusy, creamy, green, and woody. For those who say it smells like LV’s Imagination, I don’t get that… yes, in the opening it has that DNA, but after the first 5 minutes, that feeling disappears, and we’re left with a perfume very similar to the previous flanker (Cologne), just fresher and less citrusy. Platine Privé is my favorite for hot climates alongside this house’s Cologne: it’s that fragrance that fills you with energy and boosts your confidence. When you apply it, you feel it’s sparkling, creamy, fresh, and masculine, adding a delicate, daring, and intimate touch to this beautiful Guerlain composition.

Delicious and refined. I find a certain similarity to Louis Vuitton’s Imagination.

  • I own Ideal Cologne and it’s identical, maybe with a slightly softer dry-down… but if tested separately, they’re the same. I want to say this is a masterpiece; for me, one of the best citrus scents; that touch of almond gives it excellent creaminess… lasting 6 to 7 hours.

I’m still getting to know and warming up to it. The scent reminds me of a well-known doctor in my area; I hadn’t smelled anything from the line before, and it automatically sounded like him. The quality is noticeable. EDIT 06/04/2025: A fantastic fragrance, a perfect blend of grapefruit and rich almond, as I said before, the quality is evident. It’s elegant but perfect for everyday wear. Hard to find; I bought it at Juleriaque in Argentina, which had stock until recently, but now it’s gone. If you can find it, go for it, highly recommended.

  • Giving an opinion is pointless because you can’t find it anywhere. I met it months ago as a gift when buying another perfume: a small perfume set that included this scent. I fell in love quickly. Although it’s described as citrusy, I smelled it as nutty; mixed with almond, it’s an addictive combination. I’ve grown tired of searching for it and accept there are no more left; I hope Guerlain relaunches it. Worth every penny.

I agree with the comparison to Imagination, but Platine Privé is what that fragrance never could be, and it’s also much more accessible (though it’s discontinued now). Delphine and Thierry are geniuses; they turn everything into gold. Their aromatic quality is unmatched, something expensive and pretentious brands like LV wouldn’t dare to match.
