Sweet opening. Another round of custard, please. Light pepper. Some chestnut, some soft wood. Creamy fragrance. I’ve worn it for a couple of days, but I still don’t quite get it. Maybe it works better on women; I’m sure it does. It’s not my cup of tea, too sweet, too tobaccoed vanilla. Little smoke, little wood, little fireplace. High-quality material, certainly, but the vanilla is very dangerous on my nose, like a second cousin you don’t hit up too often. We’re family, but we only see each other occasionally; you recognize the sound, he’s nice, but you wouldn’t be with him more than absolutely necessary.
I agree with user ‘tizizam’: the aroma has a similarity to burnt candies, giving that bonfire sensation. A sweet aroma just right, perfect to be very sweet without being cloying, addictive over time. It’s not for any occasion; on sunny or hot days it can be too sweet. Recommended more for mornings, evenings, or cold days.
It’s a pretty good fragrance for my taste: woods that don’t smell ‘burnt’ to me but can smell ‘old man,’ and a sweet vanilla that gives contrast and makes it quite wearable for cold occasions, cold only, since it’s a fragrance with a strong scent.
I have it and am certain it’s original. I read reviews talking about vanilla, custard, and sweetness, but I perceive none of that. The opening is spicy, too woody, smelling strongly of spices. The longevity is excellent: I tried washing it off afterward with no result; it resisted water and soap, which is good for those who like it. It lasted all night; the evolution went toward milder spices, but sweet notes never manifested. I’ll give it another chance tomorrow to see if it works better this time.
It’s an exquisite fragrance, very ‘flavorful,’ one of the first and most captivating for me. It’s quite enveloping, slightly aggressive at first, but I really enjoyed the sample and missed the perfume when I smelled it days later on the collar of my sweaters.
I’m coming late to the hype, but until now I hadn’t encountered a tester for this fragrance. Glad I didn’t buy it blindly. The scent is very smoky, even persisting in the dry-down. The dry-down does sweeten a bit more. I don’t feel like smelling like this, what can I say… As an olfactory experience, it’s okay, but nothing more. Are there perfumes that fit us better so we can smell like smoke?
I didn’t believe in magic or perfumes; the world of fragrances had hardened me. Years of sniffing recycled, soulless things made me an implacable critic. I mocked ‘olfactory journeys’; to me, they were just chemicals with labels. Until By the Fireplace arrived. It wasn’t a coincidence: it was a gray November afternoon at a tasting with cold lights. Sniffing bottles without finding anything, a voice said, ‘Try this.’ It was an older man with a scar and sadness. I don’t know why I listened. I uncorked the bottle and the world crumbled. The first accord was a lash of smoldering wood, not a scent, but burning firewood in an old fireplace. I closed my eyes and I wasn’t there; there were no cold lights. I was in another time and place. The charred wood mixed with a comforting, toasted vanilla, like a winter blanket. Then… the chestnut. That warm, smoky, melancholic note hit my heart. I remembered childhood afternoons by the fireplace, the snow hitting the window, my grandfather’s laughter peeling chestnuts, the smell of pipe tobacco, and the embrace of a winter that no longer exists. I wiped my sleeve over my eyes, hiding it. It was late: a rough, cynical critic had cried. How long does it last? Long enough to make you doubt your skepticism. On my skin, a whisper of smoke and vanilla lingered for over eight hours, like an echo of memories that don’t fade. What does it smell like? Nostalgia, a fireplace in a lost cabin, the warmth of a home that maybe never existed but that we all carry. Since then, I no longer mock olfactory journeys. By the Fireplace took me to a place I didn’t want to leave.
It’s not a BEST MODE, but tested in April (spring) and you can’t ask for miracles. This is an autumn and winter scent. To me, it doesn’t smell like a fireplace in a cabin, but rather hot flames roasting chestnuts. It’s very sensual, capable of stealing your senses and bending your will, like igniting an inner fire that then sets others ablaze. Relying solely on the notes can be misleading: yes, it smells like a bonfire with wood and chestnuts, but it’s not just the sensation; it’s that you’re burning and radiating warmth with intention. Ideal for dinner and a drink. It goes beyond the description; it’s sensual, a declaration of intent, sometimes even sinful. But nothing is wrong with love.
It’s a delight and an experience: the scent of smoldering wood, ash, and chestnuts… autumn and winter on the skin, a warm and comforting aroma for the cold. I also own Lattafa’s Raghba Wood Intense with almost the same DNA, but Replica Fireplace blows it out of the water: it’s much more natural, like having a fireplace right in front of you. Totally recommended for cold seasons; it’s pricey but worth it if you can afford it.
I usually go to the countryside a lot, staying in rural hotels or campsites. I only wear this there, and it fits perfectly. It smells like a journey and a rustic experience. There’s nothing like staying in a rural lodge in autumn or winter, reading a good book with this on: it literally smells like roasting chestnuts by a fireplace while enjoying something sweet. It’s a perfume for specific situations; it just doesn’t work for daily wear.
It’s an aroma that took me a while to understand at first; I had to try it for several days. It gives me a subtle sensation of pastry vanilla, with a slightly smoky and woody note, plus a bit of talcum powder. It’s cozy, like walking past a bakery—not because it smells the same, but because you think, ‘That smells good!’ It’s sweet but sophisticated and comforting. It has a nostalgic vibe because it’s warm and has that soft, rich vanilla sweetness. A very good olfactory experience. 100% recommended.
A very rich perfume on my skin, lasting 10-12 hours with moderate sillage at 8 sprays and strong at 14. For special occasions and nights with low temperatures, because in hot climates it’s too much. I see it as a masculine unisex because it’s strong, potent, woody, and smoky, though it gets sweet later but keeps that smoky touch I associate with masculinity. If it has good longevity. Don’t buy it blind because you’ll either love it or hate it, but for me, it’s a 10/10.
By the Fireplace: a narrative experience in three acts. It’s not just a perfume; it’s a sensory story. Act I: The Disorientation. Ambiguous opening, smoky notes with timid sweetness, everything diffuse, as if it doesn’t know what to say yet. Act II: The Reign of Smoke. Minutes later, the smoke takes center stage, overwhelming and enveloping, almost physical. But in the background, there’s a subtle sweetness, a promise of Peru balsam and chestnut. Act III: The Revelation. As it dries, the smoke retreats elegantly, revealing a sublime balance between sweet and smoky. As a beginner in niche perfumery, it’s an olfactory bomb. I’m grateful to have found this gem in my early steps. It smells incredible and tells an unforgettable story.
At first spray, it smells like marijuana, then as it burns, the sweetness of chestnuts comes through, and finally it dries down to woods and vanilla. In the dry down, it’s very similar to Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford, though this one is more feminine with a more exquisite, burnt-caramel-like sweetness. On my skin, the smokiness prevails from the start. I find that every time I wear this, I feel the need to layer a juicy or citrus perfume because the smokiness is too much. Longevity and sillage last until the next day.
For me, it’s a combo of balsamic woods and sweet smoked chestnuts… it doesn’t smell like chopping wood or toasting marshmallows. It’s a very woody but wearable aroma, I don’t see it as polarizing, though I understand it depends on the skin. Performance is very good, totally unisex and winter. Very, very rich.
Quite a premium perfume. Depending on the day, I like it more or less. Some days I feel like I’m sitting by a fire with marshmallows, sweet, woody, and cozy, but other days it smells like burnt wood, like a barbecue. It’s very subjective, definitely not something to buy blind; you have to experiment and wear it at the right time, but it’s incredible and exotic. Longevity and projection are moderate, nothing extraordinary, a good piece for a collection, special, and unconventional. It’s an experience, hard to explain.
This perfume is a curious experience; at first, my friend and I smelled it like a roaring fire, wonderful. After a few days, another friend said it smelled like bacon-flavored potato chips to him. Now I can only smell that. Potatoes with bacon.
A light touch of toasting marshmallows in a fireplace with lots of vanilla, an absolute bomb on projection and longevity. Its warmth makes it ideal for extremely cold climates.
This fragrance is a moment. Upon spraying, it smells of burnt wood, liquor, and a subtle vetiver, then the chestnuts kick in, making it edible without losing the power of the guaiac wood and cloves. Those around you don’t get that intense scent, just an amber wood, chestnuts, and vanilla. Impressive.
I loved it! With all the comments, I had doubts about whether I’d finally be convinced, but it did. It has a serious aroma, evolves well, and is elegant. It maintains the longevity perfectly. I have to try it more, but I loved it!
I hate when people slap on Arab-inspired notes and make it vulgar; with that much potency, anyone could wear a terrible synthetic fragrance and get away with it, but does By the Fireplace smell like that? Full disclosure: it’s a gorgeous scent, those smoky chestnuts and wearable smoke are delicious, a perfectly balanced EDT. It’s fantastic for cool weather, not overwhelming, comforting, and pleasant.
I like it, it smells like burning wood at first, then a rich sweetness comes out to make you smell like burning wood again. I wouldn’t wear it on my body, it’s very masculine, but it would be great on a candle for an autumn afternoon while eating chestnuts 🍂 🌰
I love it. That smoky chestnut scent, the woody vanilla, and the Peru balsam are what I feel and adore most. It’s a dense smoke fragrance with a lot of character. I’d recommend not buying it blindly and it’s definitely for temperate to cold weather.
I expected more. I did like it, yes. I would buy it too. But I’d use more others like Autumn Vibes and Whispers in the Library. It felt like being in a cabin room in the middle of winter, or like a new wool sweater (not the store-bought kind, but those artisanal ones they give you as gifts). The fire is there, especially after it dries down, and the sweet wood is well distinguished.
Everything is quite simple. A cold day, you light the fireplace, settle into an armchair with a good slice of aromatic vanilla cake, and just enjoy the smoke and vanilla filling the air. A very, almost eerily, realistic perfume. Longevity is medium.
I had high expectations and, sorry to say, I found it very synthetic.
This is the quintessential winter perfume (I admit I have other great ones for the cold). From the first spray, it transports you somewhere warmer. I see many talking about its sillage, but in my experience, that’s a myth: standing still at 10 meters, someone told me I smelled good; I only used 5 sprays, which is normal for me. Overall, it gets a lot of compliments, it’s complete, has good longevity and projection. If you’re looking for reactions and to feel superior in the room, this is your perfume.
I was looking for something that smelled like burnt wood and that smoke that lingers on clothes after lighting the fireplace at home. I wanted something photorealistic. They recommended it, and here’s the review for anyone seeking that. There will be many reviews about ‘burning wood,’ and while it’s true, it’s only half the story. Don’t believe me, it’s not the overall sensation. You’ll smell the burnt wood very faintly, almost only after it dries down, and you have to use your imagination. What this really smells like is chestnuts, cinnamon, and vanilla. My attempt at a photorealistic description: imagine being in a café or cabin, at the far end there’s a fireplace roasting chestnuts. You feel the warmth of the fire and smell the chestnuts. The walls are wood, there are books on the shelves, and you’re sipping a warm pumpkin spice latte with vanilla.
From the very first spritz, By the Fireplace captures that magic of ‘smelling like Christmas.’ Even though I’ve never stood in front of a real fireplace, the fragrance recreates that cozy, warm atmosphere. The citrus just balances things out, while the clove and chestnuts set the spicy, gourmand tone. With attention, I catch a sweet smoky note, like a toasted dessert with a hint of char. As it dries down, it doesn’t lose its charm: a dark, toasted, creamy vanilla emerges, rounded out by the softness of cashmeran. It invites special moments, perfect for end-of-year parties when you’re looking for something comforting. My rating: 9.5/10. It’s a delight that mixes sweetness, smoke, and spices in a unique balance, ideal for those who want to celebrate with aroma and warmth.
Already in winter, I can’t stop wearing it. Paired with Jazz Club, it’s Maison’s crown jewel. Not everyone loves it fresh out of the bottle, but once it dries down, that’s when it shines: no campfire or smoke vibes, just irresistible, super warm, and special within 40 minutes. Unisex, perfect for the cold, dates, or staying in to watch Christmas movies (like Die Hard ^^).
Obviously a winter bomb; the burnt wood aroma is a true delight and shines in its dry down. I own Ameer al Oud and they’re nothing alike; both feature wood, but Ameer is sweeter. This lasts longer than the Maison Margiela one.
It reminds me of seasonal hot chestnuts with a sweet, burnt wood scent. It brings back nostalgia for trips to the Old Continent in winter and chestnut stands. This house really makes you remember moments, hence its name ‘REPLICA’.
I went excited to try it with the notes. I like the smoke, the chestnut, the vanilla, the orange blossom, and the pepper… but the burnt wood scent dominated way too much, both in the opening and dry down. I barely detected any chestnut unless I really tried. I didn’t wear it on skin and it felt very literal, more convincing as a candle or room scent than as a perfume.
If you’re looking for something heavy, this isn’t for you. It’s a super well-made cologne that literally smells like a campfire with chestnuts. Perfect for dates, intimate settings, or ‘you and me’ moments. It’s my favorite in the Replica line, though there are other good ones.
Fresh, spicy, and almost peppery opening with cloves, pink pepper, orange blossom, and juniper. Then the heart of chestnut and guaiac wood lingers throughout the dry-down. The base of vanilla, Peruvian balsam, and cashmere ties everything together and lasts until the very end. Despite being an EDT, it lasts 12 hours and projects perfectly without being overwhelming. Many people love it; my mom gets compliments, and a friend said it smelled like ‘a chocolate bonbon.’ Don’t wear it below 65°F or in sweaty areas, or it smells like frying food. A warm masterpiece.
Highly polarizing: none of my circle liked the opening. It smells like extinguishing a campfire or smoke on clothes, burnt wood that lasts a few minutes before the vanilla and chestnut kick in to balance things out. It’s not linear and not for everyone. It doesn’t smell bad, but I only see it as an olfactory experience, not for daily wear.
Simply perfect. I’m a fan of woody and sweet scents, and this is the ideal blend. I recommend it for indoors because it shines in close proximity; at first, the projection is exaggerated (I love it!), but then it becomes intimate. It lingers on skin the next day, so it’s very personal. High-quality, well-executed notes; I’m addicted, it’s my favorite.
A day before trying it, we made atole over a wood fire on a comal; the smell of burning wood in the atole always sounds incredibly rich to me. The next day I smelled this perfume and it reminded me of that: strong wood with a layer of vanilla dessert. It brought back the moment of my mother making that atole, perfumed for winter.
Warm masterpiece: it’s my first unisex and has the perfect balance. Smells like a fireplace with roasted mulberries—sweet but not overpowering. The smokiness is delicious and lingers on the skin for hours, though projection is only strong for the first two hours and longevity around 6-7 hours. Not for everyone; two out of four people I tried it with didn’t like it, so test before buying. Still, given the notes, I expected more longevity, but what it has is fine.
An olfactory challenge—hard to find the right moment to wear it, but the experience is wonderful. Replica tries to recreate different moments, and this winter version by the fire is executed very well. It’s fun, distinct, and has an intense sweetness with a beautifully done smoky finish.
