Descripción

When the Rain Stops by Maison Martin Margiela is an aquatic aromatic fragrance for women. Launched in 2021, the nose behind this composition is Fanny Bal. The top notes reveal fresh greens, bergamot, and pink pepper; the heart unfolds aquatic notes, rain accords, Turkish rose, and jasmine; while the base anchors the creation with pine, moss, and patchouli.

  • Precious wet wood. One of the most personality-driven scents from the house after By the Fireplace. It has enough body to last, and while it’s aquatic, what lingers is a constant, precious woody note. It suggests the smell of books, having coffee next to a dark wood bookstore on a rainy day. It has a very cozy wet spot that fits perfectly with the pine and moss; all the notes work and you can tell. Just like Bubble Bath fades into oblivion, this aromatic snapshot (the house’s concept) by Maison Margiela stays fixed in memory without blurring as much as other formulas.

I’m absolutely obsessed and bought it blind: it’s cool, fresh, and substantial. If you don’t like potent florals, this isn’t for you; it smells like a sweet, spiced rose, almost soapy—basically Turkish rose as it should be, quite sparkling. It reminds me of seeing my mom in a strong perfume at home while it’s warm inside and raining outside, with that aquatic, cool touch. It’s elegant and makes an exquisite distinction. Be careful with pH, as on some people it becomes very sweet. I recommend testing it on a strip first.

I’m personally fascinated by it and bought it blind: it’s cool, fresh, and substantial. If you don’t like potent floral aromas, this isn’t for you; it’s a sweet, spiced rose, almost soapy—basically Turkish rose as it should be, quite sparkling. It reminds me of seeing my mom in a strong perfume in the comfort of my warm home while it’s raining outside, with that aquatic, cool scent. It’s very elegant and makes an exquisite distinction. Be careful with pH, as on certain people it can turn quite sweet. I recommend testing it on a strip first.

  • I tried it with a discovery set and it’s a particular fragrance, but the Turkish rose note is too much for me.

  • This is a masterpiece. The rose is wonderful and becomes very sweet on my skin. I’m fascinated by that rain sensation, as if it’s enveloping everything. The jasmine, combined with the rose and over time, develops that earthy note; maybe it’s suggestion, but it evokes wet earth after rain, leaves, and flowers… It’s original yet familiar, I find it feminine, very pleasant, and gives me a fantastic sense of well-being.

  • This is a gem. The rose is wonderful and becomes very sweet on my skin. I’m fascinated by that rain sensation, as if it were enveloping everything. The jasmine with the rose, and then that earthy note appears; maybe it’s just suggestion, but it reminds me of wet earth after rain, leaves, and flowers… It’s original yet familiar, very feminine, and gives me a fantastic sense of well-being.

  • What a beautiful scent. It puts me in a good mood. Soft, delicate, and perfect for any day of the year. Green and citrus opening, then the rose with that watery touch that feels so refined. On my skin, I notice more rose than jasmine. Smells very clean and delicate. The dry down is also soft. Great balance and evolution. Gives a fresh sensation that turns into a warm, humid comfort as it dries. Lasts really well. Smells like home after the rain. Great name. I bought it blind based on the name, color, and notes. I absolutely love it. One of my daily favorites. Even though it’s feminine, it doesn’t clash on a man at all.

  • What an awesome scent. It puts me in a great mood. Soft, delicate, and perfect for any time of day. Green and citrus opening, then the rose with that watery touch that feels so refined. On my skin, I notice the rose more than the jasmine. Very clean and delicate. The dry down is also soft. Beautiful balance and evolution. A fresh sensation that turns into a warm, humid feel as it dries. Lasting power is excellent. Smells like home after the rain. Great name. I bought it blind based on the name, color, and notes. I absolutely love it. One of my daily favorites. Although it’s feminine, it doesn’t take anything away from a man.

  • Too masculine for me and smells like pachinko. I was looking for something more aquatic, like petrichor, but it’s too earthy. It doesn’t work for me or my partner.

To me, it’s very masculine and smells a lot like pachinko. I expected a wetter petrichor scent, but it’s excessively earthy. I don’t like it at all, neither for myself nor for my boyfriend.

I can finally review it… where do I start? I smelled it in the store and loved the concept; it reminded me of Ireland. I thought it would be great for daily wear and that I’d use it a lot, so I bought the 100ml version that same day. I wore it daily for two weeks: at first 3 or 4 sprays, then 7 or 8 because I thought it was fading fast. Big mistake! I got stuck. I felt like I was drowning and my throat was filling with that scent, I think it’s the patchouli. I hated it after a month. It was painful because I bought it with excitement and they even made a custom label for me, but I couldn’t stand it. I only used 1/8 of the bottle. I gave it to my mother and she loved it; she wore it all the time and in the same amount of time, only the bottom was left. Visualize how much you spray: it’s huge. It’s not for everyone, it has a lot of personality, and you should make sure it suits you before buying.

I can finally review this perfume… Where do I start? I smelled it in the store and loved the concept: it reminded me of my stay in Ireland (or that’s what I wanted to believe). I really liked it and thought it was great for daily wear, so I imagined using it a lot and needed a big bottle (big mistake). I bought the 100ml version that same day 😱😱😱😱. After two weeks of daily use: at first 3-4 sprays, then I thought it was fading and went up to 7-8 (another big mistake). IMMEDIATELY I GOT OVERWHELMED. When I sprayed it, I felt like I was suffocating and my throat was filling with that scent (I think it’s the patchouli, but I’m not an expert yet). After a month, I hated it. It was heartbreaking because I bought it with excitement and even got a custom label, but I just couldn’t stand it. I only used 1/8 of the bottle. I gave it to my mom and she absolutely loved it; she used it all the time. Using it the same way I did… on her it lasted only a few minutes!!!😂😂😂 To show you how much she wears it. She’s a woman who adores having her scent noticed wherever she goes, and at least in my case, I feel the trail is ENORME (maybe because of the dislike). I wouldn’t say “When the rain stops” is for everyone; it has HUGE personality, and you should make sure it suits you before buying.

  • It delivers on its promise: it evokes the outdoors after a rain and stepping out into the sun, with hyper-realistic earthy, floral, and aquatic notes. It’s intimate, pleasant, and unisex, though it’s not something I would personally wear.

  • IllumiFragance

It smells just like Acqua de Jeanne in Provence, but it lasts less and leaves the roses stuck to the skin without moving; it’s not bad, but it loses that rain sensation that the Acqua definitely has.

  • I was looking for something that sounded like its name, but it wasn’t the first I tried: a Hermès, another niche, another with petrichor but that said nothing. Until I saw the Maison Martin Margiela at a perfumery, including When the Rain Stops. On blotting paper, I sensed something watery, but it didn’t convince me until I tested it on my arm that hot, humid day. Hours later, back at the hotel, bam! It smells like rain, R A I N. I pressed my nose to it and thought, ‘Here it is, finally.’ It’s unisex, elegant, distinctive, and high quality, perfect as your signature scent.
