Black XS for Her by Rabanne is a woody floral musk fragrance for women. Launched in 2007, this composition was created by Emilie Coppermann and Mark Buxton. The top notes unfold with blueberry, pink pepper, and tamarind; the heart reveals cocoa, rose, and black violet; while the base notes complete the olfactory pyramid with vanilla, patchouli, and massoia wood.

What a perfume! I bought it because I thought the bottle was cute and assumed its scent (very strong and long-lasting on my skin) would fade… No! It never did, and I partly appreciate it because after coming back from a night out smelling of cigarette smoke, it was still there, present, as if freshly applied.
It was my first perfume and I loved it with my life (to the point that I used it every day). The other flankers are good, but this perfume was me in my teenage version. It has very good longevity and projection. It’s a sweet scent but not cloying, which constantly reminds me of spiced chocolate.
A nocturnal, spicy, sexy, and mysterious perfume. The predominant note is a delicate rose wrapped in pepper, which balances it very well. I don’t feel it as a very sweet fragrance. A touch of black currant and wood; the mix of these notes makes it mysterious, sexy, and addictive. Men like it a lot. I see it on a sexy but rebellious girl. It doesn’t have a wide projection, but it has excellent longevity.
This perfume is a sparkling oriental sweetness. It’s sensual, coquettish, and playful. A perfume for occasions where fun is the protagonist. I love it for a cool night at a concert or karaoke, with beers and friends! With a black leather jacket, wine-colored lips, and some jeans! Haha. From Paco Rabanne, my favorite; with just a few drops you have more than enough since it tends to be intense. One of the things I like most is that the blueberries are felt throughout the perfume: more prominent in the opening, then they settle to give way to a sparkling cocoa note thanks to pink pepper and patchouli. The latter is constantly perceived, along with the vanilla base that adds softness. And the perfume ends, in fact, with vanilla and patchouli; this is, of course, after the last few hours. Otherwise, a woody bomb of blueberry, cocoa, patchouli, and vanilla is always perceived.
In Argentina, we have the Ciel line from Cannon fragrances; perfumes that, despite being very cheap, fix very well on the skin. The Noir version of Ciel reminds me a lot of Black XS (if there’s any Argentine subscriber who knows both, I’d love for them to confirm if they find them similar). Black XS was a perfume I used a lot when I was young. Compared to current perfumes, Black XS is still very sexy, but much more sophisticated and with a more marked character than other inescapably sweet and generic fragrances, like La Vie Est Belle.
I didn’t like it; I smell it very masculine.
I didn’t like it. It’s extremely sweet, has good longevity and sillage, but it’s cloying and gives me a headache. Well, super sweet for those who like sweet things; it’s good to try before buying. It’s a perfume we sometimes idealize because it’s by Paco Rabanne; I thought it was exquisite, but it’s very expensive and has nothing special for me, other than being extremely sweet. I find it very common, nothing special.
It was my first perfume for ‘going out to dance’ when I was a teenager. A friend let me smell it, and I didn’t hesitate to buy it. It brings back beautiful memories. It’s sweet as can be, yet fruity. I suppose the combination of blueberry, pepper, and vanilla makes it fruity, powerful, and very sexy. I still have it in my collection; I bought a small bottle out of affection, but I don’t think I’ll use it much anymore. I feel there are more current options on the market; it feels a little outdated. That said, it has excellent longevity on the skin; you can still smell it the next day or when you’re about to shower.
I bought it blind and I love it; it’s my favorite for going out at night (even though I can’t anymore). I detect notes of blueberry, wood, and pink pepper; it’s very rich and sexy. I disagree with those who say it’s sweet; that’s the least I notice, and it can even pass as unisex in the opening.
Agree with Catalina Smum. For me, it’s one of those sophisticated sweets that remind us a perfume can be sweet, with cocoa and vanilla, without falling into gourmand territory. I see it as seductive, not sexy; it keeps that mystical, reserved allure. I love it! I feel the cocoa note so balanced, it doesn’t weigh me down, though I admit the opening is intense. Now that I think about it, yes, Ciel Noir is very similar! 🤗
It’s a very sweet perfume, not cloying, very elegant. It’s strong but I like it; it’s very chocolatey.
It was my favorite for years; it reminds me of my adolescence when I first met it. It was rich, intense, and for making an impression. In Argentina, this version is no longer available, which saddens me because it was a beast. There’s only the 2018 version left, but in my opinion, it no longer has the same charm. What a pity; I wish it would return to the market and I’d buy it without hesitation.
I wore it in 2016; it was my first ‘sweet’ perfume and it was love at first sight. I still keep the bottle and remember it as slightly sweet and woody. It’s for wearing at night, dressed in black with a leather jacket, but I loved it so much I wore it in winter to go to work. The sillage and longevity were moderate, but enough for an EDT. Later, I wanted to buy it again, but they didn’t sell it anymore; strangely, I’ve seen it again this year on websites in my country, and I’m tempted to buy it once more.
I wore it for years until I got tired of it. I first smelled it on a sample and it caught my attention because, on my skin, it wasn’t as aggressive as in the ads. It blended with my body heat, was super personal and soft, yet long-lasting. People asked me many times what perfume I was wearing.
I went to a perfumerie in Argentina because it was on promotion and they described it as sweet, intense, and for making an impression, which is exactly what I like… what a disappointment! I can barely smell it after 10 minutes and it almost disappears. Maybe it’s my pH, but it smells very little sweet, has no sillage, and zero longevity. Bad purchase.
Hi! I’m new to the world of perfumery and I love reading your reviews. I’ve always had a sweet and woody taste, and I have a special fondness for this ‘Black XS’ because it accompanied me through my youth. I used to wear it in college, feeling like a sweet rocker, and when my parents gifted me a perfume for my 20th birthday, I ran to grab it, drawn to the bottle. I loved the scent: woods, vanilla, a hint of pepper, violet, and rose. My skin makes it sweet, so I enjoyed it immensely; it lasted 7 to 8 hours in winter and 5 to 6 in summer. I’d buy it again for winter for that warm feeling.
I love it 💖.
Black XS for Her (2007): very sexy. The blend of wet patchouli with candied violet, vanilla, chocolate, and blackcurrants pushes it into a fruity chypre; you barely notice the musky notes. Very feminine, ideal for those who want to be irresistible.
I tried it back when Ralph Lauren stopped selling the ‘hot’ version. They’re similar, but this smells like burnt sugar; sometimes I get dizzy just smelling it. It’s rich, has great sillage and longevity, but for me, it’s too cloying.
What a beast! I love wearing it. It feels super sexy and people stop on the street to smell it. It’s a pure head-turner. 10/10.
I used it for most of my youth, and now I say: ‘Oh my god!’ I can’t believe I used to wear this perfume. The scent today is extremely irritating, too curious, and gives me a headache. It’s not a bad smell, but it’s a weird one.
I don’t have the perfumery vocabulary to describe this guy. It lasts forever on my skin; it’s one of the few that hold up so long, and I have plenty of it. I like the sweetness, but it’s not overly sweet. It doesn’t give me a headache; it makes me feel present, and I get compliments from both men and women. I love the mystery, especially when people don’t know what it is. I hate arriving somewhere and having someone smell the same or worse, or having them ask what I’m wearing. I like when they ask and I don’t know the brand. I love it so much. It behaves very well with me; I’m fascinated by its trail and fixation. On top of that, I associate perfumes with moments and memories. This Black XS reminds me of a time when I was very happy; it transports me back to those lovely, joyful moments with people in my circle. I used it a lot, day and night, winter and summer. Then I couldn’t find it anymore… I got another one that I also love today. Finally, I found this one. I didn’t hesitate for a minute and bought it. Yes, it was exactly how I remembered it. I still like it.
Sweet and fruity. Completely versatile. Feminine, though it becomes quite unisex as it dries down. Projection 7/10, longevity 7/10.
One of the perfumes from my youth; I really liked it. Strong aroma, classy, and long-lasting. It was a toilet water, but it lingered on the skin for a long time. I haven’t bought it again, but I don’t rule it out for the future, although it might be a bit outdated now.
I love it. It’s the kind of perfume I like, even though people say it’s overused. On my skin, it smells like fresh tamarinds and blueberries soaked in liquor. It doesn’t declare it, but it seems to have some kind of alcohol in it.
It’s the typical teenage perfume we had. I loved it. Sweet and strong, perfect for the night. Now, however, it feels cloying and even a bit invasive.
A beautiful, dark, and sexy fragrance. Ideal for dancing, going to the bar, or a romantic date. In my opinion, it suits girls around 20. I wouldn’t buy it again because I used it a lot during my nightlife phase, so now it’s tied to those moments and doesn’t fit my current stage of life.
This guy has character and his own personality. On my skin, the rose, vanilla, and wood come through very subtly, while the musk stays at 100%. Perfect for fall and winter, evening wear, and without being over the top, since it lasts forever. Even though some places have discontinued it, it deserves a spot in your collection.
I had this in my clubbing days. Very night-time, youthful, long-lasting, overwhelming, and extreme, just like the name suggests. It denotes luxury but with excess. It’s a night of excess. What stands out most is the patchouli. A classic in perfumery history. An absolute must-have.
My sister used to wear this when she was young. It brings me straight back to the 2000s.
I bought it again to give it a second chance, and OMG, it’s a beauty I’m enjoying so much. It’s mainly red berries, patchouli, with the distinctive tamarind note giving it a sour tone; it’s sweet but sour, with woody base notes that result in a super sexy and rebellious aroma. What I love about Black XS is that it’s different from current sweet perfumes with vanilla, caramel, or gourmand notes. It’s for exclusive use in autumn and winter, preferably at night, or if you use it during the day, use fewer sprays because it’s really strong. I love it; if you have the chance, give it a try.
For me, this perfume performed better on spring and summer nights than in any other season.
As for its personality, it’s quite soft. I detect the pepper, cocoa, and rose, with a very faint background of patchouli and wood. It’s not sweet or cloying; rather, it’s dry. Ideal for use in winter or autumn, day or night, for casual wear, nothing too formal.
Sweet, but with little longevity. I felt it owed me the tamarind note, which was the reason I wanted it, but I never found it.
Honestly, it disappointed me. It smells good, but it doesn’t translate the listed notes on my skin. I don’t feel any sweetness, and the cocoa isn’t there. Maybe the vanilla appears in its evolution, but it didn’t last for me; it vanished in half an hour. I insist, it’s a nice fragrance with poor longevity and no sweetness. A very soft floral. I’m a fan of Rabanne fragrances, but this one isn’t worth it. I’ll stick with Pure XS, which actually delivers what it promises.
It opens with red berries: blueberries. Although they say there’s pepper, I don’t detect it, but these blueberries are paired with something sweet-sour like tamarind. It’s a lively opening—not light spring fruits in the sun, but heavier, darker fruits. Over time, the natural, heavy cocoa emerges, along with an almost imperceptible rose that pops up occasionally, and a vanilla that adds a sober sweetness, nothing gourmand. Combined with the woods, it’s strong, dark, and maybe unisex. I see it as perfect for a girl dressed in black, wine, or purple, a rocker, for heading to a concert. I love it; it dethrones others in my collection, but not everyone likes it. Try it, but don’t buy blindly.
I can’t believe the reformulation. It’s much lighter and fruitier. I do smell the cocoa, but this can’t be the right reformulation. I’ll always want it because it’s my adolescence perfume.
What did they do to this perfume!!! I owned it in 2007 and used it for years because it had an incredible sillage, but now my mom bought it and it smells like anything but that—just flowers and weakness… Before it was vibrant, delicious, and shaking! Now I have no idea what it is… it seems to have lost its personality.
The scent of my adolescence. It was my first perfume—bold, powerful, and youthful. A bit heavy for hot weather, but it smells amazing and evokes the night, young years, rock, and rebellion.
My favorite! I absolutely love it. Although it doesn’t last long on my skin and clothes, the scent is delicious. Perfect for going out at night when it’s cold 🖤
