Hypnôse by Lancôme

Buaaaa… It’s the most unique vanilla in my collection. I don’t know why I don’t wear it more, but I hope they keep selling it. You don’t smell like a bunch of people, so if they ask, don’t say anything! I bought the bottle three years ago and it has gotten so much sweeter.

Clean and soapy. I don’t feel it’s fresh, but rather floral and creamy. Very nice, timeless, for any age and occasion. To smell clean and refined without trying.

At first I didn’t dislike it, I noticed more the combination of flowers and vanilla, but as it dries down, only that tropical touch remains, which is now the only thing I smell. No, I don’t like it; I think the passionflower isn’t for me. All the Lancôme fragrances I’ve tried have a common base note that I don’t like, I don’t know if I’ll try many more…

Hypnose was my first designer perfume. It captivated me, although I still don’t know how to describe it. Around 2009 it evoked a bubblegum scent for me, but with many nuances, very elaborate, although I’ve never smelled bubblegum like that, it’s what comes to mind. Maybe because of its sweetness or vanilla, I don’t know. What I do know is that it’s very pretty, sweet without being cloying, vanilla-infused, slightly fresh, easy to wear, nothing loud, no vintage touches, smells like fine candy. I really like it a lot and it has good sillage and longevity; it’s one of the ones that project the most on my skin. I see it as versatile (taking care of the sprays depending on the occasion), versatile in age, timeless and easy to like (except for those who don’t like sweet scents). Now I have another bottle I rushed to get because it’s sadly discontinued. What a pity, it’s an uncommon fragrance, but I understand why they discontinued it. Generally, when you smell a perfume you think: it smells clean, fresh, like a dessert, sexy, strong… Hypnose doesn’t fit into categories. If someone asks me what it evokes, I’d say: pretty. It smells pretty, but it’s not easy to categorize, neither in notes nor in feelings, which can make it hard to use due to lack of identification. However, I think this makes it unique and worth having or knowing before it disappears. Something curious: smelling Chloé Nomade Nuit D’Egypte, its opening is very similar to Hypnose (at least for me and on blotter paper); then Chloé follows another path, but they have a slight resemblance.

Weird, it doesn’t have declared fruits but I smell orange to me, a caramelized orange. Every nose is a different world.

I’d seen the bottle in ads but it never caught my eye until I tried it. It’s gorgeous. I don’t get any vanilla notes; it feels fresh and light, perfect for work. I simply love it.

I was 8 when it launched, and in the Cable magazine (so vintage, wow) it came with a sample in a metal envelope with full-page ads. Does anyone remember? What times those were. I just recall the liquid was blue and the scent… I still get a faint memory of it. I haven’t smelled it again, but it was elegant and distinct. Always a little mischievous; I opened it and doused my neck completely, haha. I don’t know if anyone noticed, but it was a lovely fragrance. It’s pricey, but sometimes I crave buying it to relive that summer of 2005. I don’t remember the scent clearly, just a vague olfactory memory. If they reformulated it, I don’t think I’d notice. Almost 20 years have passed.

I’m going to be ‘tough’ on this fragrance. Watch out! I like it and owned it when I was young, so there’s no doubt it smells good, sweet, and feminine, but to me, it smells like cheap perfume… it reminds me so much of those mini bottles given away at Christmas at my neighborhood pharmacy with purchases. Identical. Now, aside from that, it’s a perfume with great longevity and a sillage that, in my opinion, is excessive… if you wear it, people know and notice it immediately.

I loved it to death. Despite its vanilla base, it’s not heavy; it’s fresh… I could smell it all day while wearing it. Perfect for daytime. It’s not invasive and doesn’t bother others. I’d buy it a thousand times over.

Without a doubt, the most different vanilla in my entire collection. I perceive a super-sweet vanilla, like nectar, with a tropical touch. I have nothing like it; it seems very unique and original. It might be overwhelming in hot weather, but it’s great for summer nights. Perfect for the rest of the year.

I’ve worn this since I was 25, and now I’m 34. Every time it runs out, I buy it again. It doesn’t smell old to me; it’s sophisticated and spectacular. It has amazing sillage and longevity, I’ve received countless compliments, and nothing compares. I love it and will keep repurchasing it over and over.

Simply SPECTACULAR!!! Refined, delicate, and super long-lasting. I LOVE IT.

Elegant and feminine fragrance, very sweet but not a gourmand where the sweetness overpowers everything like the trendy ones. The flowers are blended so well it’s hard to distinguish them, but they pair great with the vanilla, which might be the key. In the dry down, it’s powdery, sweet, and floral. Just be careful with the sprays as it can be overwhelming; it has powerful projection and long-lasting performance.

I consider it a classic with a vanilla distinct from current trends. Personally, we just didn’t click; I remember getting huge migraines trying to get used to its aroma, all in vain, and I switched. However, it has very prolonged longevity, nice bottles, and I think those looking to step out of the gourmand vanilla or the coconut-vanilla duo should try it. It’s a distinct, non-massified, singular scent.

I agree that Hypnose is timeless and maintains its own identity, an essential requirement for a fragrance.
