Finally… they changed the cap. I just received it along with Acqua Di Gio Profumo, and it comes off completely. BRAVO!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 It’s the 7th or 8th time I’m using it, so down below you’ll see my reviews on the perfume I’ve used the most in my life… there must be a reason for that… 🤭🤦🏻♂️🤣💪🏻

  • I bought it again after 5 years because I like it and for nostalgia of what I used in my teens. Honestly, the new formula smells more soapy and has less body, probably because they lowered the base of patchouli and wood. Before, it was only for cold months; now it goes well in spring and cool summer nights. Longevity and projection have dropped, but the soul and originality are still there. Scent: 8, Versatility: 8, Longevity: 8 (about 6-7 hours), Sillage and Projection: 7. Hoping it revives the L’excess version.

  • Comparing it to a bottle from late 2011 (batch 12841) that I still have, I think the current formula matches the last ones from the previous bottle quite well, but it differs from the most primitive versions. Cheers.

  • It’s a sweet hit; starts with citrus, praline, and pineapple, then turns creamy and sweeter where the balsam and amber really shine. It doesn’t smell like Legion, but it reminds you of it all the time. Interesting scent, fruity, sweet, and very seductive. Ideal for going out at night without being the center of attention, or for romantic dates where it works best. Perfect for cold weather or summer nights, and you’re sure to get compliments if someone smells it.

This is my favorite perfume. In 2018, I went to a mall with little desire to spend money and asked a saleswoman to let me try it; I didn’t know it, but I fell in love at the first sniff and bought it on the spot. I get tons of compliments when I go out because it smells great and is very long-lasting. I wore it to lunch and it lasted all day on my skin. I’m not sure if it’s for a specific age, but I recommend it to everyone.

Updated review after several months: over a year ago, this was Paco Rabanne’s flagship, with ads everywhere and a super cool rock theme. I used to go through several bottles of the 2005 version, but with the release of 1 Million, I forgot about it until I happened to try Pure XS and couldn’t resist. I bought a big bottle hoping to relive the old days, but what a disappointment: terrible performance and too watery for my taste. I tried it in a store again and it lasted the same, so I thought it was a bad batch and bought another, but it was the same. I remember it being less sweet at the start, with a dry, soapy citrus opening that calmed down to become sweet and balsamic. The praline and patchouli create a chocolatey smell, almost like dulce de leche, but with that soapy reminder at the beginning. The previous version was more complex, with many distinct phases; now the middle and dry down rush together because they don’t last long. It’s a linear fragrance that evolves quickly, but it’s become a poor version of what it used to be, with just enough longevity and zero projection after 25 minutes. No problem in summer, but its lack of projection makes it versatile for any season. It’s always been casual and balanced. Also, the cap is no longer ‘Zip’ but normal, which is more comfortable, although the bottle is heavy. For me, the format change is a total disaster; the old ones were light and beautiful. It’s interesting if you want to remember 2006-2007, but it lacks depth and power. It’s not bad, but my expectations got the best of me; maybe we always remember the past better.

  • I bought it recently and I love the scent, even though I’m not a huge fan of Paco Rabanne, the XS line seems good to me. It has a sweet but formal smell, super versatile for the office or going out. Maybe I wouldn’t wear it much in heavy heat. What I notice on my skin is that it doesn’t last long. With 6 sprays, I don’t feel it projecting or being very present. I see many people saying the opposite, so it must be my skin. I have the Zara Gold, which is simpler but similar, and it lasts much longer. Otherwise, excellent fragrance.

  • Very rich perfume, good projection, though not very long-lasting. After 6 hours, it’s just a skin scent.

  • Leantcor89

Truth be told, it hasn’t lost its classic essence of burnt rose or cinnamon. However, the longevity is scarce; it fades quickly and barely projects, even though the original was almost an Eau de Parfum. I’m testing it for winter, but I’m not sure how it will hold up in the heat—maybe it will project better then.

  • Honestly, the 2018 version is only half as good as the 2005 one. Back then, it felt more complex and natural; now it just feels like a flanker that highlights the citrus, leaving behind that floral jasmine I always loved. The caramel touch and those liquor-like notes are gone, leaving just the sweetness of praline and some spices. It’s more synthetic, long-lasting, and simple, but it lacks soul. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 6/10 Projection: 5/10 Sillage: 5/10 Value: 4/10 Blind Buy: 7/10 Versatility: 5/10 Best for temperate and cold climates.

It’s seductive and underappreciated, which is better so it’s not mainstream and you can stand out. This new version has the same performance as the previous one and keeps its charm; it was one of the first designer scents I used for hunting and it worked well. It has the praline sweetness well-balanced with citrus and lovely cinnamon; it’s not a typical gourmand, which makes it more versatile. Great projection and trail (2h) and longevity (6-8h), it’s still worth it.

  • DuiliomatiasArg

Exquisite fragrance with a moderate trail and projection, and good skin longevity of about 7 hours. If you don’t want to overwhelm but want to smell great, it’s highly recommended.

  • Subrayador Verde

If you used the old version, you won’t be disgusted; they smell 90% the same, but this one is lighter and less deep. The old one didn’t perform at all, this one is worse, lasting only 10 minutes, and I’m not the only one. The opening is more citrusy, just as versatile. With my eyes closed, I’d stick with the old one; it’s hard to find now, what a pity they changed it like this.

  • Excellsior

I own it and it’s one of the most exquisite in my collection. It projects well and lasts a long time, ideal to keep in your rotation.

  • I was gifted it and it’s a classic that I love. It smells like strawberry from start to finish, with a touch of pineapple, and it’s super linear: it doesn’t evolve at all during its 4 hours. Performance is poor; it has no trail and stays stuck to the skin even if you apply a lot. I don’t remember the old version, but nowadays, if you’re not a super fan or collector, I don’t recommend it.

  • emporioblanko

I bought it today and I love it; it smells great. I don’t know how the 2005 version was; they say its trail lasted longer, but even with just one drop on my wrist, I’ve had it on for almost 5 hours and it’s still going. I don’t know how it projects because I only sprayed it to smell it up close, but I think I’ll repurchase, they’re giving them to me for free lol. If I spray 6 times, it might last 2 or 3 hours or more at arm’s length, which is fine, and then much longer on the skin. I don’t like heavy perfumes that you can smell from far away until people are literally sick, unless they are very soft, aquatic, or grassy, which aren’t as heavy but are sweet or floral. It’s better if the trail doesn’t last too long at a distance, because then you’re in a closed space, in a car, or at a venue and you want to throw yourself out. This one is sweet but a soft sweet that I absolutely love; it’s not overwhelming and I definitely recommend it.

  • It’s a sweet fragrance but also a bit fresh (that’s how I see it). I notice a citrus touch, that typical sweet Paco Rabanne vibe, and a green patchouli base. It was made to be liked and was a hit in the 00s. I don’t know how the original 2005 version compared, but current batches of the 2018 version fall short on longevity. For us perfume lovers, it’s rich, but I recommend buying this Black XS for those who don’t own perfume or are looking for an affordable designer scent (you can find it very cheap).

  • Pfff, it was my favorite when I first got into perfumes, but I think there are similar options that are cheaper. Longevity is average, but it smells amazing. I recommend Zara Bogoss; it has similar performance and scent with a huge price difference.

  • I first encountered this in 2012, used it a few times, and finally bought it a few months ago… Huge disappointment. The reformulated Black XS is still the same but much diluted. It’s very masculine, perfect for autumn, winter, or spring, for nighttime wear. The 2018 reformulation lost its punch; it projects for an hour and a half to two hours, then stays in a personal bubble for about five and a half hours, never reaching six. The bottle, though original, is uncomfortable and incredibly heavy; the old one was more practical. I got it on sale in Argentina for $105. Given the sky-high price and reduced performance, I don’t recommend it. If you can find a pre-2018 version at a good price, go for it. Despite everything, I love it, but the cost-to-performance ratio is terrible.

Black XS by Paco Rabanne: Total contrast, fresh on one side and sweet without being cloying on the other. Both forces combine to create something sexy in the Joe Division style, dark and mysterious. Imagine velvet soaked in pineapple with a smoky touch; it’s an enjoyable scent. Not groundbreaking, but striking and tasty. Ideal for hunting nights. Performance is decent. I’d say it’s for ages 24 and up. Reminds me vaguely of the discontinued Black XS Leaks. Scent: 8.0. Projection: Moderate. Longevity: 8 hours. Recommended.

Lemon and praline together with patchouli form an accord that a partner below described very accurately as dulce de leche. On my skin, it doesn’t project much, but it does last a long time.

  • Woody; when I see this note in almost all formulations from the 2000s onwards, I’m very worried, because we don’t even know exactly what wood it really is. It won’t be like American or French oak-aged wine, but something like ‘added oak shavings in its production, along with natamycin and pimaricin in a controlled malolactic fermentation (of milk).’ The same happens with reformulations: ‘WE HAVE TO SELL, THE MERCHANT WILL SAY…’ but sell something good and lasting, something like the ones before, which is money well spent that leaves the consumer satisfied, not that it drives them away to ‘DO NOT BUY MORE STRETCHED OR WOODY FRAGRANCES.’

  • There are fragrances loaded with intentions, and this Black XS is the best example. Its opening is very citrusy, sparkling, feeling almost like a punch in the face, but it quickly reveals its true intentions and turns woody and sweet, with a praline that stands out above the other scents to give it that characteristic sweetness and settle into its dry down as a woody fragrance. It’s clearly a night fragrance; I wouldn’t understand it for daily use due to its woody and sweet contribution, which can make it feel too heavy, even so, don’t think it’s similar to a One Million. And yes, it’s a compliment generator. Regarding its projection, it’s limited to half an hour; from then on, it radiates closely, but on skin it can last about 10 hours.

  • I tried it today at a store, and first of all, it seemed much less sweet and more fresh than I imagined. As many have mentioned, the opening is quite citrusy, but as it dries down, it becomes more woody, warm, spicy, and a bit sweet, without losing the freshness present from start to finish. And secondly, for some reason, during the initial drying phase, the scent felt familiar to me, reminding me of a fragrance I probably smelled on several people when I was young (in the 2000s). So for me, at least, it gives that ‘two-thousand’ vibe, which might seem a bit dated, but I actually like it even more. Edit: I bought it and literally it has no projection; I overapply and it disappears in seconds…

  • I don’t know the old version. Black XS 2018 comes out with a blend of juicy lemon and something fruity. Then it sweetens a bit and becomes woody. It’s an exquisite fragrance, youthful and rebellious, very in tune with its old packaging. It’s true that it doesn’t last too long and isn’t in ‘best mode.’ However, I still recommend it. Its ideal use is for spring and summer nights. The sweetness and heaviness aren’t enough to suffocate you if it’s hot. Better occasion? Those quick outings where you know you’re going to a bar or dinner, and it doesn’t last more than 4 hours. 4/10.

  • zmjuanpablo

Despite having a lot of affection for this perfume and wearing it on multiple occasions, I never manage to define exactly what fruit, plant, or real-life sweetness Black XS reminds me of. What I do know is that I like it quite a bit; I’ve used it for more than one night date and its performance leaves me satisfied. I prefer it much more than One Million, for example, which feels more unisex to me. Good fragrance. Its price isn’t too bad, and I’ve heard girls like it a lot. Recommended.

  • Rich, citrusy, and sweet aroma, but not cloying. It’s quite similar to the 2005 version, but a bit more modern (following current trends). I recommend it for fresh days in the shoulder seasons and it clearly works better at night. Good longevity, over 6 hours, and about an hour of good projection. I was surprised. Don’t buy blindly. Rating: 8.3/10.

  • Black XS is the rocker little brother of XS; both its aroma and its aesthetic stray from the roots to create something similar yet distinct. It belongs to the woody family and is a fusion between the warmth of amber, the sweetness of spices, the elegance of tobacco, and the balsamic facets of wood, creating a contrasting blend of acid and sweet, neither fresh nor dense, with an interesting facet of sweetness and darkness pierced by a fruity trail. It works all year round, though perhaps it’s more appropriate for winter or the cold nights of autumn and spring. Its use is casual and daily, but it’s also a great option for night or parties. It’s designed for an audience between 20 and 40 years old.

  • I’m not sure if it’s due to the reformulation, but the longevity is very weak, lasting only about 3-4 hours, and the projection goes to hell after the first 45 minutes. That said, the scent is incredible and will get you more than one compliment.

  • Some say there are few changes from the old formulation, but to me, it seems quite more synthetic to the point of not liking it. The old one was a jewel compared to this. Before this, I would opt for the Zara one due to the price.

  • petri_aromatico

I got it for just $25. In my opinion, it’s not worth paying more than $45. The scent is very rich, mixing sweet and citrus notes with a lovely trail to perceive. As for longevity, forget it: 4 hours and a trail that doesn’t exceed a meter. It’s excellent for casual use any time of year, although some say it’s only for night; I see it as versatile. I don’t see it for special events or dates; I feel there are countless fragrances for those occasions that are much higher quality. Although I don’t regret the price I paid, currently I use it for going to work.

When I was little, my brother used this perfume in its old version, the elongated bottle (this one is from 2018). I remember smelling it when he applied it and it flooded his room with a spectacular aroma in a second. Since then, I’ve had it in my collection, but since it was small and I was gifted it instead of buying it, I have this 2018 version, and it smells nothing like the previous one. This latest Black XS smells good, but its longevity, projection, and sillage leave much to be desired. If you can get it for under 35€, it could be a good option for your collection; if not, there are many much better options with better performance.

  • Paco Rabanne’s Black XS starts with an intense citrus opening, soon opening up to a sweeter, slightly woody and spiced profile. That combination gives it character, but I don’t consider its performance acceptable, especially given the price. Although the proposal is pleasant, it doesn’t seem standout, especially compared to previous versions that delivered more impact. It might please some, but personally, I don’t recommend it. I invite you to draw your own conclusions. I firmly believe there are many better options on the market with a better quality-to-price ratio.

  • This perfume is a damn compliment machine. I’m definitely going for a second bottle. I’ve used it for everything: formal, party, casual, daily, dates… and the compliments poured in; girls wanted to be closer, and I got seductive looks and smiles. The truth is, very few EDTs achieve what this Black XS does. From day one, I decided it would be my star lotion (until I fall in love with another, as happens in life). But watch out, it’s not for everyone. At least you need to know how to dress, combine colors, have confidence, a good physique, hygiene, and above all, a fresh haircut, because otherwise, my friend, this magic won’t work or perform miracles. It’s a team effort between you and the fragrance; otherwise, you’ll be disappointed. You’ve been warned.

  • My dad gave it to me, but for the price, I would have preferred Invictus or Dylan Blue. It’s a scent that stands for nothing, has nothing special, and doesn’t last long; I don’t recommend it.

  • titancilo

I was gifted this, and it starts strong, though I think it fades too quickly. It doesn’t smell bad; it’s serious. With a good suit and cold weather, it can work, but it’s not a fragrance that defines an era. 7/10.

  • emporioblanko

Impressive! It’s the best from Rabanne for cold weather and one of the ones that has gotten me the most compliments; it projects like a beast. From the XS line, along with Pure XS, these are the best, and this one ranks in the top 5 of the brand.

  • I bought this for $50, and it’s not worth paying more. It’s not bad and smells incredible, but the longevity is short—it lasts about 4 hours and projects for maybe the first hour, or 30 minutes at most, and no one smells it after that. Although pH and scent perception vary, in my case, it’s the same for everyone. Bottom line: share it knowing you’ll have to reapply, or it’s only worth it at that price point.

  • ladiesman_217

My dad got this as a gift. While it didn’t quite suit him, it’s a festive and seductive scent. The first thing you notice is a sweet, bakery-style lemon, nothing too acidic. Then comes the gourmand part with caramel and that classic party-perfume dessert vibe. For me, it’s the best of Paco Rabanne: easy to wear, fun, and even seductive. I recommend it for hanging out with friends for coffee or a chill plan; for dates, you won’t be noticed unless you’re close, and since it lasts about 3-4 hours, I don’t think it competes in a club with all that other smell. If you catch it at a good price and like citrus, it’s a solid buy.
