  I have a special affection for notes that blend floral, spicy, and herbaceous elements: lilac, wisteria, lily of the valley, ginger, white clover, angelica, gentian, ivy, and violet. If they’re floral, they lean more toward the powdery than the indolic; they can be rough, yet also musky. Sometimes they’re spicy, but they almost always dry down to a sweet wood or fresh hay. To me, this genre evokes a fairy forest—not humanoid, but tiny and sparkling like the nature of these chords. I’m really into this type of eau de cologne, based on angelica and lilac, because it belongs to that family of pleasant fragrances, perfect for siestas, daydreams, and that simple fantasy doze. They’re sweet, natural, and innocent, with no sexuality at all, like a fawn resting on a riverbed. Unfortunately, this Aqua Allegoria ends up evolving into something completely unrelated to its name. When I first tried it, it deceived me: the herbal and rough tone of the angelica mixed with the precious sweetness of the lilacs, wow!… but after five minutes I thought: here comes vanilla, damn, why do I smell vanilla? No, it wasn’t vanilla; it was vanilized, dry heliotrope. To that, they add things that don’t fit at all, like pink pepper and ylang-ylang, and the perfume that promised a lavender, dreamy scent on a cool summer night turns into a burnt body cream in ugly warm sepia tones with a floral-musky breath smell. It’s lightyears away from what I like: dry, woody, talcum, or soapy perfumes, but never warm or hot—only cool, shady, and moderate. My joy is in a well, chapter 1,500.
