One of the most beautiful fragrances I’ve ever tried. On my skin, it’s honeyed and floral, perfectly evoking its name. You can tell Jean-Claude Ellena’s hand in how transparent it is. However, the longevity and projection are quite weak. To me, it leans more feminine within the unisex spectrum.
L’Eau d’Hiver lives up to its name perfectly; Ellena’s vision of winter is luminous and subtle. It opens with fresh bergamot, with angelica in the background adding a green, spicy touch. The heart features musk, heliotrope, and powdery iris beneath a pale jasmine that feels like spring waiting to arrive. In the dry-down, amber with honey emerges. Everything is well-integrated, evolving smoothly and elegantly. It’s powdery, fluffy, soft, warm, and serene; it radiates peace. It’s beautiful, but the longevity is short and it clings to the skin with low sillage (a pity). Also, the heliotrope-iris combo is so prominent that it’s not truly unisex; it suits female skin better. Rating: 7
It sounds like Prada’s Infusion d’Iris or Pharrell Williams’ Girl. It’s a fresh, very wearable, versatile, unisex iris with good performance. It reminds me of classic colognes and Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino. A great everyday option, nothing intrusive. Scent: 8, Longevity: 9, Sillage: 6, Value: 4 (I love it, but there are cheaper alternatives), Versatility: 10, Overall: 7
Frederic Malle’s L’Eau d’Hiver is delicate and lovely, built around a fresh, clean iris. It opens slightly citrusy, with a balanced white musk and white flowers where the jasmine is sweetened by honey without being cloying. As it dries, the greenness of angelica comes through, adding freshness and complexity without getting complicated. It reminds me of Prada for that polished iris treatment and also Armani’s private line. I think it shines more in warm climates; it’s unisex, versatile, and has average performance. The price-to-quality ratio is debatable; as an FM, you expect more, though aromatically it’s delicate and perfect. I like it a lot—it’s relaxing and refreshing—but I’d prefer more commercial options with better alternatives. Rating: 7.5/10
Frederic Malle’s L’eau d’Hiver is a very delicate and lovely fragrance built around a fresh, clean iris. It opens with a subtle citrus note, supported by a very balanced white musk and white flowers where jasmine stands out, softened by a touch of honey without becoming cloying or artificial. As it dries down, the angelica’s greenness emerges, adding freshness and a slight complexity, making it an easy-to-understand scent. It reminds me of Emorandeira and Prada perfumes for that crisp iris treatment, as well as Armani’s private line in terms of freshness. I think it will shine more in warm climates; it’s unisex, suitable for any occasion, and has average longevity. The price-to-quality ratio is debatable; as an FM, one expects more, though the olfactory quality is there, being a scent that is always delicate. Personally, I love it—it’s relaxing and refreshing—but I’d prefer to explore more commercial options where there are surely good alternatives. Rating: 7.5/10
L’Eau d’Hiver is discreet and essential, like a mood to carry. Surprisingly, it fell in love with me immediately, even though it’s different from the intense scents I usually seek. It starts great: a transparent floral cloud, smelling white and green, like flowers on snow. The base of almonds, heliotrope, and honey is soft and caressing, with anise adding a barely whispered sharp note. The iris wraps everything in a powdery veil that puts me in a sublime state of relaxation. It’s elegant, sober, and cool, yet offers great comfort and transports you to melancholic, unrealistically beautiful territories. Pity that the price isn’t justified by its performance…
PURE LOVE: Very much in the vein of Infusion d’Iris or D’Amande, but reversed, since this one comes earlier. It’s what a prima ballerina like Giselle would wear before passing away. A floral veil, a talc whisper, a winged love. Floral, delicate, angelical… A love at first sniff that I thought would last forever, but on my skin, it’s hello and goodbye. Yes, what a shame, but goodbye, I’m signing off and leaving…

A floral veil, a powdery whisper, a winged love. Floral, delicate, angelic… A love at first sniff that I thought would last forever, but on my skin, it’s hello and goodbye. Yes, what a pity, but goodbye, I’m signing off and moving on…
What a gem, possibly my favorite from Frederic Malle so far. It reminds me of Infusion d’Iris or Prada’s D’Amande; it’s a safe bet for a signature iris. It smells clean, with a sweet and cozy touch. The downside is that the longevity and trail leave me cold: they are very low. Given the high price, I can’t justify it. What a pity…
