Descripción
Gold Intensive Aoud by Mancera is an oriental floral fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2008, this olfactory composition was created by perfumer Pierre Montale. The fragrance pyramid begins with top notes of lemon and a touch of acidic lime, accompanied by aquatic notes that provide immediate freshness. The heart reveals a complex blend of rose, guaiac wood, teak wood, saffron, and geranium, creating a floral and woody bouquet of great depth. Finally, the base notes are stabilized with precious woods, white musk, and ambergris, imparting a warm and silky persistence.

Rafasant is kind and generous; he gifted me a sample of Gold Intensive Aoud. It’s a solid offering under the Montale label, which plays with thousands of facets of oud. Warm, enveloping, and pleasant, especially in the cold, it hugs you and accompanies you step by step with bursts of wood and a delicate oud, paired with a soft, slightly powdery rose. It smells gorgeous, but I wonder if it was necessary to create a new brand when so many of Mancera’s creations are nearly identical to what Montale already smells like. It’s not shameful—nobody’s forbidden from copying—but it is annoying and unimaginative. Better to try totally different perfumes. Great sillage and longevity, ideal for evening wear.
The scent is top-notch, unique, and unparalleled, but the longevity leaves me cold: with 5 sprays, it barely lasts 3 hours. Does anyone disagree? I own the Black version, and that one lasted all day, so I don’t understand this flaw.
At first, I felt a rejection toward that sharp, citrusy opening, but it dissipates in 10-15 minutes, leaving a beautiful, unique rose scent with citrus and woods. It has beastly longevity and good projection for several hours. It seems like a winter scent but is wearable in any season. Elegant and classy. It taught me not to judge by first impressions =)
I must say that at first, I felt rejection from that sharp, astringent citrus opening, and I thought, ‘no, this won’t work for me.’ But that aroma dissipates in 10-15 minutes, leaving behind a gorgeous scent of rose with citrus and woods, very unique. It has beastly longevity and good projection for several hours. It seems winter-appropriate but is easy to wear in any season. Elegant, classy. It taught me not to judge by first impressions =)
Even though the name says oud, I’ve never smelled it, and here it smells like aromatic wood (maybe sandalwood?), sweet, spicy, or bitter. It’s tricky. I’ve read it can smell like asphalt or an old medicine cabinet, and that hooks me, just like gasoline or solvent. Plus, I don’t usually like rose in perfumes; the opening often seems confused and rancid to me. I have to let it sit for 20 minutes for the magic to appear. It’s my first Mancera and second Montale; despite everything, I’m happy. It lasts longer on clothes than on skin. It was a gift that didn’t click at first, but over time, I don’t think it’s been reformulated. When I smell it on clothes days later, I love it. It’s a scent with presence and personality. I forced myself to like it, and right when I stopped trying, the miracle happened. Edition 30.x.22: I’m OBSESSED. Today I had a long, tough day and needed a perfume to keep me company. I left at 9 and got home at 11 PM, and it’s still on my skin (this time I didn’t kill it). What power, what strength. I’m in love with notes I used to hate; I’ve noticed the saffron and geranium with a wonderful, astringent touch. The perfume’s mind is infinite depending on the moment, the heat, or my mood. Enjoy.
Despite the name, there’s no oud here… I have no idea what real oud smells like; I’ve never smelled it. It sounds like aromatic wood, like sandalwood, but I’m not sure if it’s sweet, spicy, or bitter. What I do know is that it’s intense. I’ve read it can smell like asphalt or an old medicine cabinet, and that hooks me (I’m drawn to streets, gasoline, turpentine). Either way, I hate rose in perfumes; I’ve always loved it on its own, but mixed in, its opening often seems confusing and ‘stale.’ That’s how this one starts. I have to let it settle quickly so the magic can emerge after 20 minutes. It’s my first Mancera and second Montale, and despite the rocky start, I’m happy. It lasts longer on clothes than on skin, and those woods hold up for ages. It was a gift that didn’t click at first, but it has time; I don’t think it’s reformulated. It’s me. When I smell the clothes days later, I love it. It’s a scent with presence and personality. I forced myself to like it, and right when I stopped trying, the miracle appeared. Edit 30.x.22: I’m absolutely in love. Today was a long, tough day, and I wanted a perfume to accompany me. I left at 9 and arrived home at 11 PM, and it was still on my skin (today I didn’t kill it; I let the magic flow). What power, what finesse, what strength. I’m in love with notes I used to hate… I’ve noticed the saffron and geranium with a wonderful, astringent touch. How suggestive the mind can be depending on the moment, the heat, the cold, the mood, or the spirit. Today I understood that the perfume world is infinite because of things like this. Enjoy.
While it’s not my favorite Mancera, I really like it. Unfortunately, I live in a place that’s hot almost year-round, so I haven’t been able to get the most out of it. I detect the citrus note throughout most of its life, but much to my regret, I barely sense the marine accord (I imagine it’s calone). In the heart, there’s a pleasant symphony between rose, saffron, and teak; it lingers on clothes for days or even until you wash them. In the base, you can feel the woods with a touch of musk; sadly, I don’t know what ambergris smells like, but I imagine it must be wonderful. It’s already a somewhat vintage aroma, but I recommend it for dressing up formally without crossing into stuffy elegance. Worth it.
Not my favorite Mancera, but I absolutely love it. I wish the heat in my area didn’t prevent me from experiencing it 100%, as the citrus note dominates the entire dry-down, and I barely detect the marine accord (I assume it’s Calone). To my chagrin, the heart features a gorgeous symphony of rose, saffron, and teak that lasts for days on clothes until washed. The base woods and musk are perfect; I’ve never smelled ambergris, but I’m sure it’s a marvel. It’s a vintage scent, ideal for formal occasions without being overly elegant. Totally worth it.
Just received a decant I bought super cheap. At first, it smelled like liquor and a strong leather (maybe the oud?), then came a scent like my dad’s shaving cream (no idea what note that is), followed by a simple rose I’ve heard in cheaper fragrances before. I’ll see how it evolves.
