Descripción
Black Prestigium by Mancera is a leather fragrance designed for men and women. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by perfumer Pierre Montale. In its opening, the fragrance unfolds with notes of iris root, patchouli, and bergamot; the heart reveals a harmony of rose, oud wood, woody notes, and violet; while the base settles on leather, amber, and white musk.

This is powerful, nothing more. The opening is a spectacle: don’t hold the bottle too close or you’ll lose your sense of smell for a bit; it smells incredible. I’m not sure if it’s the lily-of-the-valley root note. At first, it leans a bit feminine. Then, as it dries down, it becomes masculine again and (thank God) softer, I think that’s when everyone can enjoy it. It surprised me; it has personality… Though the opening seems too beastly to me, and I only like it in its dry-down.
It was my birthday gift for my partner… they loved it at first, but then confessed they didn’t like how it smelled on them, saying it felt too strong, so now I use it. From day one, it hits me and I can’t stop comparing it to Dior Homme (even the Intense) because of that note people say is iris (talc-like). To have such a strong note… I could think it’s a bomb, but no… it’s a fragrance with great performance but easy to handle. Of course! With just two sprays, you’re set for the whole day.
When I put a drop on my arm, I smiled… What a surprise! It seemed like the perfect clone of Dior Homme Parfum, but the excitement didn’t last long; the iris fades, leaving just the oud and rose, delicious but no longer a clone. It gets closer to Montale’s Black Aoud. That strong rose with the Mancera and Montale oud. By the end of four hours, a talc note kicks in, like baby powder over a rose base, leaving a clean, freshly showered scent. I loved it! The performance is another story: it projects well even the next day for the first six hours. Very satisfied.
As a novice to iris since 2021 (tried Givenchy Gentleman, Valentino Uomo, and Dior Homme), I tested this sample of Mancera Black Prestige. On my skin, it doesn’t resemble Dior Homme at all. It smells too feminine to me. I’ll give it another try to see if my opinion changes. I understand I can say this because I own almost every flanker of Dior Homme: the 2005 EDT, the 2007 Cologne, and Francis Demachy’s 2011 EDT, 2011 Intense, and 2014 Parfum.
I get dizzy hearing people say it smells like Dior Homme when it’s nothing alike, though I admit it does remind me of Jo Malone Velvet Rose Oud. Setting that aside, it’s an elegant beast with optimal longevity and projection for its price, matching niche houses that are much more expensive. One of the best in my collection, totally unisex. The rose-oud combo is hard to pull off without the right outfit, which is when it truly shines. Spectacular. There are many niche houses today that are dreadful, with sky-high prices and declining quality.
Just to say, everyone smells different. If it smells like Dior Homme to some, great. This is a place to share opinions, not to belittle those that aren’t mine.
Powerful and bold scent. At first, it reminds me of Dior Homme Parfum with that blend of rose, leather, and iris, but the leather fades quickly, leaving a sweet, powdery floral base. To me, it smells very much like Tom Ford Noir EdP, though this one is less soapy and has more iris. The projection is moderate, but the trail is noticeable from afar. Its strongest point is longevity; it’s perfect for fall and winter, but in summer, too many sprays will overwhelm you. Best for elegant nights. In short, I love it, but don’t buy it blindly just because of that risky floral touch.
