Very refined.
I tried this new version in-store. As its name suggests, ‘Special Blend,’ matches what I smell. The opening is intense, somewhat chaotic, and the notes don’t differentiate well. It seems like the anise comes out explosively with the tarragon, as if the heart notes appeared first. Then it settles to make way for the citrus, where tonka bean dominates alongside neroli and especially the anise. Tobacco and wood are secondary players that I clearly sensed at the end. It’s refined, geared for evening wear, warm, sweet, smoky, with a very pleasant liquor-like note common to all Codes. Longevity and sillage are good.
It’s similar to Guerlain’s L’Homme Ideal but without the sugar or almonds; it tends to be citrusy, almost bitter. It left me in doubt: right up close to my nose, I detected strange acidic notes. I ordered a dry sample, and the doubt grew. I can’t find the tobacco. The anise dominates from start to finish in a powdery citrus mix, sometimes peeking out is the tangerine. At times it smells stylish, and other times it feels like a blend that lost its way or was reformulated. It’s rare; I’m not sure if I’d wear it, and I can’t imagine anyone under 30 using it. It reminds me of something from Chanel in the dry down, maybe the Bleu.
The original Code with an elegant touch of anise.
Code Blend is a very good limited edition. It keeps the base of the original Code but features a powerful opening of tonka bean and a hint of sweet sugar or spice not listed on the notes. It’s more intense and elegant than Code Profumo because it avoids the overused vanilla and the 1 Million clone vibe. Really interesting and worthy of Armani; it surprises with intensity and sophistication. 100% recommended, try it if you get the chance. It’s what it should have been, though it falls a bit short of being as memorable as Profumo.
Honestly, I hesitated a lot before buying it, but they convinced me, and it’s a bomb. What a shame they aren’t making it anymore; it’s so unique and exclusive, you won’t hear it on anyone else, but once you know it, you never forget it. I ended up loving this super special Armani version.
Smells almost identical to the original, but with an added sweet touch. Excellent.
A brutal flanker of the classic Code: it has that Armani DNA but with more punch and just the right amount of sweetness. Just received a 2015 batch, and it’s a beast for longevity, moderate projection, and an incredibly rich sillage. A gem that deserves a spot in your collection. Cheers.
Excellent flanker of the classic Armani Code, it keeps that signature Armani Code DNA but with more punch and perfectly sweetened. Just received a 2015 batch from its launch year, and it’s a beast on longevity with moderate projection and a rich sillage. A gem that’s here to stay in my collection. Cheers.
