  With the trendy ginger Guerlain launched its Aqua Allegoria. This line which I used to think was amazing now leaves me completely indifferent; it reminds me of a neighbor’s dog from the countryside that somehow brought forth twenty-four puppies every year (don’t judge too harshly it was the eighties animals served as coat racks something practical; today they’d surely have been neutered). Ginger Piccante isn’t my style; more than refreshing ginger it smells like rose water with spicy nuances of yellow lemon. Accepting that I tried to assess if it’s good because it can’t be that everything seems terrible to me. The truth is I have no idea because its rose tone doesn’t convince me although that is positive because it seemed like a somewhat interesting Aqua Allegoria compared to the previous production which was practically the same perfume over and over again. The broad image is a floral/citrus/ozone mist between light and heavy with two currents: one pink and one acidic. Ginger is one of my favorite notes energizing with speed and dynamism. Here there’s none of that; aside from the opening (which smells crisp but with a smoky touch I don’t like) it gives way to the rose young tender realistic and delicate at just the right point of youth if you catch it in the morning it already smells more perverse. Unfortunately the rose is packed with lemon. I found it strange. It’s an association I still don’t understand like when they start mixing vanilla and incense and you no longer smell anything but an oppressive bonfire. Something similar happens here: the pretty rose which truly isn’t ugly is constantly capped off by liters of lemon and voila pepper just in case there weren’t enough spicy currents. I have no idea why but the image this water recreates in my mind non-stop is that of one of those honey and lemon-scented candies a kind of body between fresh and candied that I’m neither for nor against.

  Seeing that ginger is trendy, Guerlain released their Aqua Allegoria version. This line no longer excites me; it reminds me of a neighbor’s dog that gave birth every year (in the eighties, animals were practical like coat racks; today they’d surely be neutered). Ginger Piccante isn’t my style; it’s more of a rose water with spicy lemon notes. I tried to appreciate it but have no idea why, because the rose doesn’t convince me. It’s a floral, citrusy, ozony mist with two currents: a rosy one and an acidic one. Ginger is usually dynamic, but here there’s nothing but a crunchy opening and a smoky note I don’t like. Then comes the young, tender rose, but it’s drowned out by gallons of lemon. It’s odd, like mixing vanilla and incense and only smelling a bonfire. Here, the pretty rose is covered up by the lemon and pepper. I don’t know why, but I imagine honey and lemon candies, fresh and candied at the same time, and I neither like nor dislike them.

  I tested it on a blotter. At first, it smells like those candied ginger gummies from natural food stores—sweet, citrusy, and spicy. Then a rose with a citrus note emerges, reminding me of the rose candies my mother brought from Greece. Although it sounds like jam, it’s not sweet; it’s fresh and calming. I’d love to add it to my collection.

  My second Aqua Allegoria; it performs well on my skin and lasts over eight hours. You can tell the rose and ginger with that peppery kick. It smells comforting and relaxes me so much; I remember the first time I smelled it… delicious…

  Top pick for summer. A spark of ginger, citrus, and roses that refresh. Lasting power and price are average, but that spicy touch is really cool. The Aqua Allegoria line is ideal for spring and summer—subtle yet with character.

  Unbelievable that they discontinued it; it’s fresh and spicy all at once. The ginger creates that perfect blend of coolness and warmth that is super comfortable. I regret not buying three bottles a month ago; it smells incredible 🙁

  Reminds me of Miracle by Lancôme, just like the rest of the Aqua Allegoria collection—exquisite.
