I bought an Ultra Male in Aruba back in 2012 and loved it; I bought it again in 2025, but it smells different. Did they reformulate it, or is it just me? I also bought the 9pm, and it smells the same as this version, but it’s not even close to what I remember. It smells good, but it doesn’t resemble the original fragrance at all. Does anyone know anything about this?
Ultra Male is an exquisite blend of vanilla, cinnamon, and fruits that results in something striking and playful—queen of the night. Its performance is excellent, solidifying it as a classic in men’s perfumery. It’s a treasure every collector should have. I recommend it without hesitation for its unique and memorable olfactory experience.
Can someone explain why this fragrance is labeled for winter/fall while Le Beau is for spring/summer? It seems like you’re a bit out of touch. I’ve tested it several times in-store comparing it to the 9pm I own at home, and nothing convinces me. There’s something about the sweetness in the JPG line that smells like cookies on my skin, and I don’t like it. They smell better on blotter paper, but they still aren’t for me. People love when I spray them on, but they just don’t work for me. Compared to the 9pm, the JPGs have sharper, more piercing citrus notes. They’re very similar, and if you’re not used to them, you won’t notice the differences. Between how similar they are and the fact that they’re an overused scent, I’d buy the 9pm instead; you don’t get anything special with either, but at least you’re spending 20€ instead of 70€. Plus, the 9pm seems to last longer.
It’s my girlfriend’s favorite perfume, lasts long enough for a party, and is highly recommended if you can find it at a good price.
What else can I say? At first, it smells like pear gum, then the freshness of lavender and mint comes out, and finally, it blends with woody cedar that smells like a new pencil. Despite being sweet, the freshness and woody notes give it a strong masculine vibe; the pear ties everything together beautifully with the vanilla and cinnamon. Without a doubt, it’s the second best, right behind Le Male Le Parfum.
One of the best I’ve ever owned. I love JPG’s sweet scents, and this is the top. The best part is how it evolves: it starts sweet but isn’t cloying, and after hours, the intensity drops but it remains pleasant. Some people don’t like it at first, but then they end up loving it. Super recommended for night dates or formal events, though there’s a risk of attracting girls who are way too interested.
I loved it at first and bought it for night outs, making it one of my favorites. But now it gives me nausea because it’s so hot, and wearing it on a crowded bus is unbearable. It’s a delightful fragrance, but you really need to use it at the right time and occasion.
Absolute gem and so delicious! On my skin, it lasts about 4 hours with a one-hour projection, though being one of the later batches, the longevity has taken a hit. Aside from that, it’s a fantastic fragrance.
Le Male Le Parfum is my go-to for dates, but if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, Afnan’s 9pm costs about a third as much and, in my opinion, smells even better. I know many people prefer the original, but I just like the 9pm scents more.
It smells like fruity gummies, but it’s not for me. It feels too youthful and casual; honestly, it almost sounds like a women’s perfume.
It’s addictive; I love the scent, and it’s one of the first fragrances people compliment on my halo. It doesn’t have the best longevity—I’d say it lasts 1-2 hours with a strong-to-moderate trail; the last 2 hours projection drops to 10-15cm, but it still works well. It feels moderately fresh with extremely high quality. If you can afford this, 9PM doesn’t even come close in quality.
After the bittersweet taste of the classic Le Male, I decided to return to JPG, and things changed. The Ultra Male has that lavender reminiscent of the original, but with sparklier, younger touches. You can smell the pear and mint; sometimes it reminds me of Versace Eros, but with a more youthful, almost feminine vibe. Performance is acceptable; it lasts and projects quite well, making itself known. Ideal for nights, parties, or meetups in open venues or clubs. I wouldn’t use it for evening weddings, dinners, or discreet dates because it projects too much; there are other options for that. Overall, it’s a solid performer—you don’t go unnoticed. The price seems high given inspirations like 9PM come close. It’s a youthful aroma that puts me in a good mood, eager to go out and attract glances.
Smells like gummies and sweet powders, but in a super masculine way. It’s extremely superior to 9PM; there’s no comparison. It’s my favorite from JPG.
To me, this is the ultimate party fragrance. I don’t see it as just a winter scent thanks to its fruity opening that takes me more to the night than to the cold. The vanilla blends with something fruity that breaks the typical winter mold. The opening smells like a vodka and Red Bull cocktail—sparkling with that synthetic cherry-drink vibe. As it dries down, a classic barber-shop touch appears without losing the Le Male DNA. In the final dry-down, vanilla dominates with a powdery, musky base that’s soft and charming. At parties, it’s a beast: great projection, long-lasting, and impossible to ignore. I agree it’s a great party fragrance, though I also use it for other things because it’s just that good.
Ugh, I love it. Since I already have the Antonio Puig one, it lasts about 4 hours on me, but it smells divine. Many people think it’s for clubs, but I see it as perfect for winter. The one that’s truly for clubs is the Le Male Elixir; that one is extremely sweet.
Picture an autumn afternoon eating gummy candies, then a pear or apple gum. You’ve got too much sugar, so you hop in your freshly washed car that smells like cinnamon and freshness. That’s the Ultra Male: gummies and pear gum melting into rich cinnamon and vanilla. The scent is a 9/10, but the longevity disappointed me a bit; I expected more for the price. Note: I bought it secondhand, so if it were original, I’d have been even more let down.
I perceive this as very youthful with a delicious blend of pear, cinnamon, vanilla, and bergamot, much like other clones such as Afnan’s 9 PM and Odyssey Spectra.
If I had to define it in one word: attractive. It’s brought me the most compliments from my entire collection. That vanilla is the main note and never fades. I recommend it for dates or formal parties; it’s heavy, nothing informal, but with a youthful, cheeky touch that grabs attention. Although longevity is its weak point, the price is reasonable for the quality.
I don’t own one, but I smelled it in a store and was ready to buy because of that spectacular aroma. Now I see many people complaining that the latest versions last only 4 hours. How is it possible it went from lasting 10+ hours to so little? If anyone has more info, please share.
It’s a beast, literally. It evolves into that sensual vanilla with caramel notes that just hook you. It’s the kind of perfume you test on your hand and stare at the bottle thinking, ‘Do I pull the trigger or not?’ At 60-70 bucks, it smells amazing and is worth every euro. Lasts a ton on skin—8-10 hours without issues, and all day on clothes. Projection is solid, minimum 5-6 hours. It’s a safe bet: women love it, men do too.
I think the Ultra Male shares the same DNA as the original Nivea Men Invisible Black and White deodorant.
A quite sweet perfume, in a good way. Perhaps the most party-ready among designer fragrances. It lasts quite well for an EDT, yet it’s hard to ignore that its Arab dupe by Afnan is superior. I’d say it wins in almost everything, at least enough to make the slightly synthetic feel of the original matter less.
An incredible fragrance; the fruity gum scent is exquisite. It’s truly a perfume I never get tired of, and it’s not heavy enough to bore you. 10/10.
Smells good and gets compliments, but I feel like it’s a scent that’s passed its prime. Plus, it’s way too copied by clones that perform even better than the original, so I’d say don’t bother with this one… I wouldn’t buy it again.
It’s my favorite fragrance, unfortunately I can’t find it to buy again. The scent is unique, masculine yet daringly ambiguous. I love it.
I’d wanted to try this fragrance for a while, and I can say it seemed very pleasant and distinct from what I already have in my collection. It’s the second JPG I own; to test it, I opted for a 10ml decant to evaluate its development, longevity, skin performance, and compliment factor. The experience was very positive. The notes are well-balanced and achieve an enveloping blend of sweetness and freshness. Despite being launched a decade ago, Ultra Male still feels modern and relevant, a clear example of how Jean Paul Gaultier managed to create a fragrance that withstands the test of time. In short, a ‘must’ in any collection, especially for those who enjoy scents with personality, projection, and a seductive touch. My final rating is 8.8/10.
It’s still a beautiful scent but has been reformulated. As I reviewed back in 2023 after buying a 40ml bottle, I’ll insist again: don’t get fooled. Because projection and longevity with ULTRA MALE are no longer found or comparable to its former distributor. The JPG stuff isn’t worth it. Just buy the current ones, the ones Quentin Bisch is composing for Le Male, because at least they’ll have longevity and projection.
I have no idea how I hadn’t discovered this masterpiece; it’s now my favorite above all others. I found it because a cousin was wearing the 9 PM, and I asked what he was using; it turned out to be just a dupe of Ultra Male. When I smelled both, even though they’re very similar in the drydown, the 9 PM just doesn’t appeal to me as much. It’s true that for extreme heat, it’s not recommended, but with a single distant spray or letting the mist fall over you, you enjoy any day. I LOVE that blend of lavender, pear, mint, vanilla, and cinnamon; it gives me calm and helps with my anxiety, even if that sounds weird. This and Paradise Garden are my top picks from JPG and are totally worth it; now I’m just waiting to get the Le Beau Flower edition.
Dior Homme Parfum at 100% smells fucking incredible.
The candied fruit drydown is one of the most exquisite I’ve ever tried; round and sweet without being cloying. I tested the 9 PM and honestly, it doesn’t even come close to Ultra Male’s shoes, despite all the people trying to convince themselves otherwise.
Spectacular fragrance. I thought a lot about what would be my signature, and everyone always recommended this. I grabbed it on sale for 200 soles for 75ml. It smells like sparkling pear; I wear it for everything except extreme heat. I wore it for a long time, and it was the first one to get compliments from women and friends. I haven’t tried the 9PM yet, but I’m still head over heels; it’s my signature and makes people remember you. Still a good buy if you find a deal—it ran out, and I found it for 300 soles for 125ml. I’d recommend trying it and buying it on sale.
Exquisite. It’s the evolution of the original Le Male. If you want JPG history, this is a must-have. Then come the others…
Beautiful, the queen of the night. Medium longevity, but it’s worth it for the price. Still youthful, striking, and better than trendy perfumes.
Thank goodness my store still has unrefurbished batches; the longevity is insane, it sticks to you and lasts. Nowadays it’s spectacular; I think it’s the best quality JPG. It feels a bit synthetic, but wow, that juicy pear with vanilla and a spicy touch is incredible. Something so sweet and flashy yet so masculine. Perfect perfume, king of the night, my third favorite JPG.
In Colombia, there’s a store called D1 with a blue fragrance called Vincent and Rose. It smells 90% the same and costs only $8. If you smell it on someone, you won’t be able to tell the difference.
As everyone has said, it’s gorgeous. The problem is that Arab clones steal a lot of its shine. I tested it against Odyssey Spectra; at first, Ultra Male wins on the pear note and quality, but then they’re identical. Is the original worth it? If you find it on sale in 125ml, yes. If you want to save money, the clone works fine. I compared them, and it was a confusing but pleasant experience.
I grabbed it on sale for 52€ and jumped in without a second thought. It’s not a monster, but it delivers; it’s youthful, fruity, and sweet without being cloying. It reminds me of Le Parfum but feels more innocent and party-ready. Starts loud, then becomes intimate. Perfect for dinners, clubs, or dates, though it shines more at night. I wore it to work today and it fit in perfectly. 7.5/10.
Officially out of stock. I wonder what JPG was thinking.
Another gem from JPG. Sweet and masculine, it gives me a suede and vanilla vibe—super addictive. You can smell the Le Male influence, but it has its own personality. It’s a night scent, though it works for dates if you don’t overdo the sprays. A must-have in my collection. Top-notch longevity and projection. 9/10.
Very sweet and youthful, smells good but nothing special. Lasts a long time and you can tell, though I don’t wear it all the time. The funny thing is, almost no one else likes it on me, which is weird.
