Descripción

Tolu by Ormonde Jayne is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2002, this composition was created by perfumer Geza Schoen. The top notes unfold with orange blossom, juniper, and helichrysum; the heart reveals orchid, rose, and valley lily (lily of the valley); while the base notes settle on balsam of Tolu, amber, tonka bean, and frankincense.

Overall, Ormonde Jayne’s creations share a common thread: an elegant, refined, and classy base tone. At first, I notice a strong balsamic note and a bit of alcohol, almost like the pyramid is upside down, with that Tolu balsam I love—it’s lighter than Peru but more intense than benzoin. Surprisingly, the aroma is quite floral. The notes are pleasant, and the olfactory aura seems delicately charged with iris, though undeclared, and a rose that hides and reappears. Over time, it settles on the skin, transforming into something very powdery, with some opoponax and a strong amber accent. Despite the preciousness of the blend, Tolu’s elegance remains intact, and the fragrance never becomes heavy, maintaining that transparency that makes it wearable, with about 5 hours of longevity on my skin. A top-tier perfume that I discovered thanks to the kindness of Master Pedro.

  • Finally found the holy grail! I’ve been obsessed with the scent of Diptyque’s 34 Boulevard Saint Germain candle for years—that special blend of moss and spices. Diptyque did release a perfume from that line, but it smelled nothing like the candle. Then I tried this Tolu, and guess what? It smells identical to the candle and has made me the happiest man in the world. If you’ve ever smelled that candle, you know exactly what I’m talking about; if not, you have to try it. It’s a unique scent: predominantly floral/green with spicy and resinous notes. Totally unisex and 100% versatile. It has everything.
