Thanks to Darkbeat’s help and generosity, I’m starting a journey into the fantastic world of amber perfumes, and my first stop is L’Artisan Parfumeur. L’Eau D’Ambre Extrême is warm, intense, and seductive—an aroma that moves like a nocturnal animal, capable of bringing out very repressed and sensual emotions. The name fits because it truly smells of lots of amber, vanilla, and sandalwood, with an animalic note that softens after half an hour, leaving a gorgeous aromatic cloud right under the nose. It delivers perfectly and is an ideal choice for cold days or if you’re looking for something less banal than what’s being sold these days.
What a disappointment. I only smell patchouli. It’s intense and dry; I can’t detect any vanilla or amber at all. I own plenty of amber scents, and this one just smells like dirt. After a while, cinnamon kicks in, making it even drier.

I’m not as repulsed by it as I am with Grand Soir, but this amber just isn’t for me. It’s overly sweet with that powdery house note… a sweet amber that, almost always, ends up being meh.
