Descripción
Ormonde Jayne Montabaco is an oriental fougère fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2012, this composition was created by perfumer Geza Schoen. The top notes feature a vibrant accord of cardamom, mountain air, juniper, bergamot, statice, and orange. The heart reveals floral and earthy elegance with tea, Hedione, violet, magnolia, and rose. To finish, the base notes offer a warm and enveloping sequence of tobacco leaf, Iso E Super, suede, sandalwood, ambergris, moss, and tonka bean.

It feels like a powerful citrus tobacco with a wide range of nuances. The dry down reminds me of older women’s perfumes from twenty years ago, but the opening is fresh and energetic, nothing like it. It’s certainly original; it’s not easy to find something like this done so well.
So far, it’s my number one, surpassing Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather. Montabaco is my favorite fragrance because of the quality of its notes and that naturalness in the ingredients. It’s imposing yet subtle, clean but bold, with brutal elegance and presence. I didn’t expect it: the tobacco isn’t aggressive; it’s enjoyable. It’s magnetic and addictive. The citrus notes with suede create a perfect combination with a mentholated touch in every nuance. Simply and just well-executed, totally for a gentleman.
Montabaco breaks everything you know about Schön. Iso E Super is there from the start; it’s complex and great if you like trying new things. The reactions are wild: my neighbor thought it was tea, others said it smelled like I’d smoked again due to the ripe fruit notes, and others detected a lemon repellent. Every nose is a different world. To me, it smells of earth, overripe orange, black tea, herbs, a hint of animal, and a touch of floral. You can smell the tobacco, but it’s very different from what you’d imagine. It’s not as rare as my friends say; it has something special, and the longer it stays on the skin, the more floral it becomes—it’s high quality and evolves. Some find it sharp, but I prefer it after a couple of hours when I notice the moss (interpreted in a very modern way) and rose. The longevity is good, about eight hours, and it doesn’t seem to end. The sillage is curious; you feel it close by, like you have a magical aura; it’s noticeable from afar but not intrusive, always delicate. Pedro’s generosity allows me to try something new, and Montabaco is like a ray of hope for the future of perfume.
Elegant scent, but once it dries down, it smells almost exactly like Hermès’ Jardin Sur Le Nil.
