I’ve always wanted to find a fragrance in the style of Jennifer Lopez’s Miami Glow but with more sophistication and quality, a scent that evokes sand, sun, and sea, with hints of coconut and perhaps some tangerine. If this fragrance is as described, it would be a huge expectation, and even better if it belongs to the unisex category.
I just got my bottle of Juliette Has a Gun Sunny Side Up and it’s totally different from what I expected. Coconut milk, musk, and vanilla dominate. It seems very strange, unique, and too complex; there’s another component I can’t quite interpret, maybe Amyris wood or sandalwood that gives it the key. We’ll have to discover it, but in conclusion, it has become my new summer fragrance.
I wish it were more if it weren’t so powdery. It radiates innocence and carefree vibes, taking me back to a happy childhood. I’d wear it all day on holidays, but it can’t be: the compact powder scent turns it into a stuffed animal sleeping in the bedroom, one that won’t go anywhere once childhood ends. I’ll use it only for sleeping. Finally, I have the substitute for Tom Ford’s Tobacco Oud, which also didn’t fit my wardrobe, but I love spraying it on my wrists to fall asleep instantly. Sunny Side Up greeted me upon waking, which means a longevity superior to 7 hours. P.S.: This isn’t the first time coconut has disappointed me in perfumes; I love it in desserts. I make the mistake of buying cosmetics with coconut, but I haven’t hit the mark yet. It smells very artificial in perfumes or body gels. The difference is like between vanilla bean and culinary vanilla.

It’s complicated to review a perfume that seduces you but you can barely smell it. I bought the Discovery Set and tried everything. This is the third one I liked the least (after Not a Perfume and Musk Invisible), but I wore it out into the sun. When I came back, I couldn’t smell it from afar; I had to reapply. I’m not sure if it’s my anosmia, a bad sample, or the essence itself. When I finally caught it, it was a milky, tropical, bright jasmine, very pleasant, in the line of Carnal Flower or Soleil Blanc but much more diluted. Drying down, I notice musk and a salty touch. Unfortunately, on my skin it doesn’t last more than 3 hours and barely projects. Although Juliette Has a Gun markets these as feminine, these 8 perfumes in the set are unisex or unisex/feminine, so I wear them without fear. It takes an hour to reveal its true face: vanilla milk, soft woods, and a hint of coconut. It’s a warm, comforting, and sweet scent without being cloying, suitable for the office or casual wear, but not for galas. Lasts about 10 hours on skin, though it barely projects and is only noticeable on the neck. I’m torn, but I’ll try it blind. Pleasantness 7/10 (opening drags), Interesting 7/10, Versatile 7/10, Original 7/10.

Once it settles, I sense something between mothballs and frying an egg in seed oil, which is funny because ‘sunny side up’ means frying an egg with the yolk raw (I assume that’s my interpretation of Iso E Super, just like with molecule01). It takes an hour for the ‘true’ scent to emerge: vanilla milk with soft woods and a hint of coconut. It’s a beautiful, warm, comforting aroma, with a slight sweetness that isn’t cloying, suitable for both cold and warm weather. I don’t think it’s off-putting; it works for informal settings and the office, but I don’t see it as sophisticated enough for formal events. It lasts quite a bit on skin (about 10 hours), but, aside from leaks, it’s always right up against the skin. It’s curious: I feel nothing on my wrist, but I do on my neck. I loved it from the first minute. Although it starts with a few seconds of an indescribable woody opening, it quickly smells deliciously of sandalwood, coconut, and musk with a significant powdery touch. Those, plus a certain salty aspect, are the notes I distinguish in the composition, which results in a practically linear and very creamy scent. I don’t perceive its floral part. Fortunately, unlike other compositions where ISO E Super is a relevant note, I’m not anosmic to it like what unfortunately happened to @Coquita and, perhaps, @Emorandeira. Other molecular fragrances I’m partially anosmic to are Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 and Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume, but I suppose in this case, with many accompanying notes, that effect was limited, although I may not perceive the composition at 100%. It has a soft sillage I’d like to be greater and a longevity on my skin of over 10 hours. As for its resemblance to Katy Perry’s Indi, I’d say it exists but very limitedly. Indi is much more musky, cleaner, less sweet, with less coconut and also less woody. In my opinion, it’s a good proposal from Juliette Has a Gun in terms of scent; I liked it a lot and find it addictive. It feels warm, yet at the same time has that slightly beachy coconut touch that makes me like wearing it in summer. In any case, it seems to me it would fit year-round (though perhaps barely projects in winter) and will please many sandalwood lovers, provided they can perceive it. This perfume is a hug for the soul. It feels enveloping; the combination of sandalwood, coconut, vanilla, and Iso E Super creates a cloud in your personal space. For me, it’s a delight.
I have it, but I’d like to know what it smells like; I’ve used it a couple of times and can’t perceive its scent at all. I think it’s my nose, because my husband says it smells woody, and in general, I have trouble with this line; the only thing I can detect very faintly is vanilla vibes. It seems I’m lucky enough for this fragrance to have good longevity on me. As for projection, I feel it strongly, but it has that characteristic where sometimes I feel very intense… I’m in love with its behavior. Easily 8 hours of longevity and sillage. Sweet vanilla creaminess… you can feel the coconut, creamy tropical flowers… and in the background, sandalwood and ambrette musk, which I adore. I think this will be one of the fragrances I’ll restock, since they said it was being discontinued and I want it forever. I also saw other girls using it for layering, and that really appeals to me.

I love Juliette has a Gun fragrances, but let me disagree: on my skin, it smells like expensive sunscreen, the Lancôme kind from the freeshop. Is it pleasant? Yes. Does it project? Not really. It’s a summer skin scent with a lotion-like aroma.
