  JHAG’s Metal Chypre was love at first sniff; it felt like I’d smelled that green, metallic aroma somewhere in the river forests of southern Chile. It must be the bergamot fused with its herbal nuances that project that citrus power, and at arm’s length, I’ve received compliments on how pleasant it smells. It’s truly fascinating and surprising—I recommend it with my eyes closed. Although it belongs to Romano Ricci’s private collection, which is no small feat given he’s the grandson of the great Nina, it’s pricey but worth the investment.

  No one could have given it a better name. It’s a gorgeous metallic chypre; whenever I think of chypre, this is the first thing that comes to mind. It features a well-balanced patchouli paired with the acidity of citrus and the perfect sweetness of amber and tonka bean. The iris adds that final powdery touch, making it feel like it’s right up against the skin. Longevity is moderate, about 4 hours on the skin, with a medium sillage. I expected better performance for the price, but the scent is absolutely worth it.
