  • I was gifted this perfume for my birthday and I’ve been wearing it for over two years. I see it as traditional: leathers, woods, and fruits. The opening is fresh and light, with orange and tangerine citrus. Within minutes, it smells like that woody chypre type, like Polo Green with cedar. A few hours later, tobacco, leather, a touch of vanilla, and herbal spices appear. At the end, it continues with mentholated notes reminiscent of eucalyptus or cedar, always with that tobacco undertone. The downside is that on my skin, it lasts only about 3 hours and fades quickly. I apply it on thick wool jackets, and there it does last longer and project more than on skin. Being a conservative style, I recommend it to men aged 25 to 60 or older. It’s a good perfume, although its longevity and sillage leave much to be desired.

  • I’ve had this for a few years; I bought it because I wanted notes different from my usual range. I found it again at an outlet in 2014. I recommend it 100%: it’s very soft but has personality, fresh, and not heavy. Yes, it’s for daily use, generally in the late afternoon or evening, and the results are very good. What a pity it’s discontinued.

At first, a green cypress note with bergamot and that vodka-like alcoholic touch. At 5 hours, violet emerges and musk starts to show. By 11 hours, only a faint trail of musk and soft wood remains. Many fragrances in this floral-woody family are soft, and this is one of them, quite discreet; perhaps the most interesting part is the opening, especially for those seeking clear liquor notes. I see it more for spring and daytime use, because the dry down is very soft and not complex enough for the night. I used the entire sample, about 1ml, and it lasted over 10 hours with moderate, almost weak sillage, feeling skin-close in the final hours. Regarding the name, I didn’t feel any romantic vibe; it’s too timid or discreet for that.

  • Romance Silver by Ralph Lauren is a citrus and alcoholic blend with mentholated and boreal touches, where the brand breaks from the Polo philosophy for something more formal and commercial. That’s why it sometimes disappoints: it becomes reserved and intimate, which is a pity because its opening and woodiness are very sparkling, especially the vodka with citrus. It’s a shame it turns timid and personal; the scent is refined, something typical of Ralph Lauren, but as a Latino, I feel it falls short too much. It requires heavy application to maintain that alcoholic drink aroma. In the past few months, I used 70ml in 9 occasions, and what’s left is just for collection. It’s lamentable that it’s not recommended due to its low performance. Scent: 9.6, Performance: 6

  • Romance Silver by Ralph Lauren expresses a beautiful citrus and alcoholic blend with slightly boreal mentholated notes (cypress and guaiac), where the brand opens a chapter moving away from the Polo philosophy to channel a commercial vein, perhaps oriented more towards less sporty and more formal categories. Maybe that’s why Romance Silver disappoints a bit when it becomes reserved and intimate, which is a shame because its beautiful opening and woodiness sparkle, especially the vodka note touched by citrus. It’s a pity to see the ensemble turn timid and personal, as the scent is very refined, something not surprising in Ralph Lauren, but as a declared Latino, I feel it falls short too much. Romance Silver requires over-application if you want to maintain that pleasant alcoholic drink aroma; which is why I burned through at least 70ml of the bottle in the past few months using it only about 9 times. What’s left is just for keeping the aromatic record. It’s a pity this beautiful fragrance isn’t recommended due to its low performance. Scent: 9.6, Performance: 6

  • A spectacular perfume, citrusy and oriental, with nut and musk notes that gave it tremendous energy. It was deliciously fresh, and everyone complimented me. A true gem, the best Ralph Lauren scent to my taste, too bad it’s discontinued. I don’t understand how in recent years they’ve released so many mediocre fragrances: Pony 1, 2, 3, 4, 455, 67, 7, 7, 89098089, instead of keeping scents with magic and charm. Although Romance for Men was more famous, for me, Romance Silver for Men was by far the best. Today it holds the second spot on my favorites list, surpassed only by Dior Homme 2011.

  • I have to correct what I said before. I bought Romance Silver a couple of years ago blind and didn’t appreciate it fully, perhaps due to poor longevity. I forgot about it and left it in my collection. In April 2020, I had used my 80ml bottle only three or four times and gifted out some decants. I don’t know what happened to the perfume over at least three years, but it seems it molecularly compacted, and now it’s a work of art. I wish I had as many bottles of this RL masterpiece as I could. The sweet cypress and sweet vodka notes reach one of their highest aromatic peaks with a tonic vibe. The musk has permeated the light, green, and vital air of the cypress, brightened by nutmeg and bitter citrus. It’s transparent, luminous, and very masculine. Few manage to be so transparent, clean, and virile at the same time. The opening is tonic and intense, not its best moment. The real beauty is in the dry down, where cypress reigns for over 8 hours with medium-to-low projection, but always present and refined. It works in any season with a timeless spirit. If it had projected with more density, it would have been a major milestone for the brand. Very hard to find, and where it exists, it costs $200 for 50ml. You’ll have to hunt for it at a reasonable price, which is unfortunately unlikely.

  • A superior scent to its father, Romance without a surname… but equally generic. It’s a metallic anise aroma, which isn’t bad, but lacks personality. For the price, there were better alternatives available.

Romance Silver by Ralph Lauren is one of the best men’s perfumes ever formulated. I don’t understand why they made the mistake of discontinuing it; sometimes fashion houses just don’t make sense. It’s superior to its predecessor, the original Romance, which was already a great scent. It opens with a spectacular spicy citrus burst, featuring cedar and a metallic touch. I loved wearing it all day, every day. The first girl who told me today she loved it is my wife, so it holds a special place in my memory. If you happen to walk into a pharmacy or department store and see a box (sure to be covered in dust), don’t hesitate. It’s something I miss so much. Rating: 10/10
