Descripción

Polo Blue by Ralph Lauren is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2003, this composition was created by Carlos Benaïm and Christophe Laudamiel. The top notes unfold with cucumber, melon, and mandarin; the heart reveals basil, sage, and geranium; while the base notes land on suede, woody nuances, and musk.

I have a soft spot for it; it’s my dad’s signature fragrance and brings me many childhood memories. Unfortunately, it’s been reformulated countless times and has lost all the power it had in the past; back then, it lasted all day, but now you have to reapply every 3 hours. The truth is, it still seems good for indoor settings and summer. The scent is clean, fresh, and youthful. Currently, I carry it in a decant to use during the day, and it’s a pleasure to feel the aroma.

  • Polo Blue EDT by Ralph Lauren, one of my favorite fragrances. Why is it undervalued? By whom? Probably by people who don’t appreciate something so good and delicious. It’s a perfume worthy of wearing at any time and enjoying its rich scent. Cheers.

  • The richest of the blues, and it doesn’t smell like any other; even Aqua di Gio feels more generic. Unfortunately, longevity is very poor, and you need to overspray with about 12 sprays or more to make it last well. The EDP could have been its replacement, but it has a piercing citrus note that hurts my nose, and the girls at home feel the same way (they find it very strong or shrill at first). I’d prefer this classic, soft, and rich EDT a thousand times, even if it doesn’t last as long.

A cologne, fresh and very masculine, a magnet for compliments. It’s my favorite blue fragrance, with fruity notes at the start and marine accents. It’s been around for a few years, but it’s still a showstopper. That said, the latest reformulations don’t have the strength of the past and have adapted to the times, becoming more versatile. With current formulations, it doesn’t last more than 4 hours, and in cold weather, even less. That’s why it’s ideal for those who like to reapply every 3 or 4 hours; two or three sprays are enough. That’s why I recommend buying the 200ml size; it costs 10 euros more than the 100ml but lasts twice as long. It’s a perfume for the heat, but if you live somewhere where winter isn’t too cold, you can wear it all year during the day. At night, I only advise it in warm weather, though if you like it in winter, go for it; you won’t stand out, but you’ll have to spray more. Be careful because it’s addictive; since the scent is so delicious, you want to perceive it all the time, which makes you reapply more often. For me, it’s a joy to carry a decant around and refresh every so often. If I have to give it a rating, I’d say 8 out of 10; the only thing stopping it from being a 10/10 is longevity, but if you’re like me and you love reapplying even when you’re rocking a beast mode, this is definitely your fragrance. You’ll enjoy it like crazy. I also note that nowadays, longevity in blue fragrances is similar; the Eau de Parfum and Parfum have nothing to do with this. It’s true they last longer, but for me, this EDT has the best scent of all.

  • What can you say about this masterpiece? It was probably the perfume that introduced me to this wonderful world. I used it back in 2010, during my teenage years, when I had few perfumes, and this was the one that left the biggest mark on me. I wore it both to hang out with friends at night and for a stroll or a shopping trip. I loved it, and it has always been one of my favorite scents; I have a soft spot for it. I recently tried it again, and it smells practically the same. I don’t have the bottle from back then to compare, nor do I remember the exact notes, but it’s charming, clean, elegant, and ultra-versatile. It still has the same issue: performance. I remember that in 2010, the 75ml didn’t last long, and my trick was to spray it on clothes, where it lasted several days and was more noticeable, but it was still a bit weak. The tester I tried today has that explosive opening it’s known for, which lasts the first hour, then drops off a cliff. I sprayed it on clothes knowing what to expect, and two days later, the scent is still there, so if anything has decreased, it’s the projection. Back then, it wasn’t a beast; I found roughly what I had 14 years ago. Conclusion: I’ve picked up a 200ml bottle to use daily and enjoy this wonderful scent and the memories it brings. Nowadays there are many options, but I recommend trying it; also, in Spain, it’s not usually very expensive. Here, nostalgia played a big factor. Definitely in my all-time top list.

  • A top-tier classic. Nowadays, you don’t smell it as much around, but between 2013 and 2017, it was everywhere, and it lost its uniqueness. Still, in 2024, it’s a safe bet for spring or summer, day or night, though the price is a bit high.

  • One of the best I own and definitely a favorite. It’s the ultimate summer scent for young or mature people. If you don’t have it, I recommend trying it; you won’t regret it. I have the 75ml EDT and it works great: fresh, clean, and masculine. It has a very marked and fresh citrus opening, moves through floral notes that give it that clean touch, has a marine base that keeps the freshness, and ends with a woody base that adds the serious vibe I love. The downside is longevity: it’s a summer scent, but after an hour or so, it loses a lot of strength and is hard to notice, especially outdoors. Indoors, it’s more noticeable, though it lasts a bit longer on clothes without being crazy. It’s a fantastic perfume I recommend to everyone, especially people 20 and up.

  • Absolutely beast mode! Put on ten sprays, head out in a great mood listening to Luis Miguel, and you’re flying. 10/10.

  • marcosluparia

Ralph Lauren Polo Blue. One of the best marine fragrances I’ve had. It’s so good that it’s its Achilles’ heel: it was everywhere and extremely recognizable. It was normal to hear, ‘Ah! You’re wearing Polo Blue.’ Its opening of grapefruit and cucumber with a minty touch was great, but projection and sillage didn’t stand out. I remember being at home and just spraying it on the back of my hand to feel it. This original remains a marvel; despite its age, it’s still a safe bet. For summer and spring, it’s a wonder. Rating: 9/10.

  • Flavio Rueda

A delightful daily fragrance. Its main drawback is moderate to low longevity; if you want it to last, you’ll have to reapply constantly. It’s an easy-to-please fragrance you can buy blind, keeping the above in mind.

  • As summery as it gets. Competes with Acqua Di Gio Profondo; they have similarities but aren’t the same. If you like ADG, you’ll love this: fresh, marine, citrusy, with herbal undertones. Personally, I like it more than the ADG EDT but less than the Profondo, though only by a little. Highly recommended, even blind; it’s a beast. Good performance. 7.5/10.

  • A classic with marine notes, ideal for summer. Good for a day of extreme heat. I don’t find it very youthful; for me and the people I’ve spoken to, it gives the impression of targeting a more mature audience, basically a ‘gentleman’s scent.’ It’s not excellent or highly recommended, but it’s a good option, especially considering its price isn’t very high.

  • Dassbartender

I remember using more than half of my father’s bottle during my last two years of high school, back around 2005-2006. A winning fragrance in every aspect.

  • I love it. Putting it on and smelling fresh, clean, summery, and addictive. Performance is acceptable, better than ADG, and it lasts a long time on clothes. I bought the EDT over the EDP because I preferred its opening with melon and cucumber, which is fresher.

  • Polo Blue. I’d never tried it on myself, but once I used it, it triggered my olfactory memory of the 2000s: walks or crowded places smelled like this. That’s why it’s a classic, and the best part is that today it’s almost unnoticeable on the street, so using it brings those times back to life. Plus, its beachy scent is a delightful treat. I own another Polo Blue Parfum and the same thing happens: long-lasting on its own, but short projection (1.5 to 2 hours) and a strong sillage for the first hour. Still, it’s very comforting to wear…

  • A family favorite that earned a spot in my collection. Classic, fresh, and aquatic, with citrus and woody notes, perfect for sunny summer days. Ideal for casual moments. I used it a lot while working on a Caribbean cruise; every time I smell it, that era comes back to life. Although not as youthful, it’s perfect for those over 30. A timeless classic and always a safe bet. I’m thinking of adding Polo Red Parfum soon. Final rating: 7.9/10.

  • molletmod.73

A classic turned into a modern totem, now somewhat generic (there are even gels with this scent). Since the early 2000s, Benaim and Laudamiel broke away from Cool Water’s marine success and Acqua di Giò’s aquatic citrus by creating a mix of cucumber, melon, basil, sage, and light woody, musky, and elegant suede bases. Its importance lies in creating a bestseller: marine, ozonic, summery, and beachy, yet also urban and suitable for all year, setting the blueprint for ‘blue perfumes.’ Copied endlessly; no current house, from Armani to Azzaro, has an ozonic marine scent in their catalog that doesn’t resemble it. It’s reformulated now and lasts less, but I think, unless you have similar ones or hate it due to saturation, it has more charm in 3-4 hours of Polo Blue than in 8 hours of many others.

  • Polo Blue EDT. Classic freshness and versatility, perfect for hot weather and daily wear. Its musky and woody base gives it that timeless masculine touch. The blend of basil, citrus, and florals makes it vibrant, characteristic, and addictive.

  • I’ll confess: I like Polo Blue. I like it a lot. It’s that perfume I shouldn’t like because it’s predictable, easy, and correct. But here I am, like a happy idiot, slathering it on like I’m putting on my favorite denim jacket, even though I know it’s not trendy anymore. Because Polo Blue smells exactly like what it was to be cool in the 90s. That guy who played tennis, got As without studying, and had a motorcycle—even if it was a modified Derbi FDS. The kind who didn’t need to say anything because his scent said it all: clean, fresh, a winner without a mess of hair. The kind who arrived at class smelling like success and expensive deodorant. The kind who stole your girlfriend without a second thought, because deep down, you knew he was right. The melon and cucumber opening has that shamelessly clean air, like just stepping out of a shower with Evian water. A freshness straight from a 90s TV commercial, a guy in a white shirt running on a beach with saxophones in the background. Then comes the basil with the elegance of the waiter putting ice in your glass without asking. And the base, woody and musky, like a promise of maturity that never arrives, sticking to the skin like that good memory of when life was simpler and you thought wearing Lacoste meant having style. Yes, it’s true, Polo Blue doesn’t invent anything. It doesn’t explore, take risks, or provoke. It’s the olfactory equivalent of watching ‘Sensation of Living’ on VHS: you know what’s coming, but you’re still hooked. It could have been worn by Brandon Walsh pretending to be deep or Zack Morris fooling the principal. A scent that feels untouchable because we’ve all forgiven it beforehand. Because deep down, Polo Blue doesn’t change your life, but it makes you smell like you’ve got it all figured out. And sometimes, with that, it’s enough, even if you still don’t have a motorcycle or a girlfriend.

  • eduavilag

Incredibly rich and upscale. Opens very citrusy and fresh, staying that way. I love the scent and how it makes you feel clean, classy, and stylish. It projects well for the first hour and a half, then fades; the sillage is moderate and skin longevity is average. Something really great is that you can use it for the gym, shopping, the office, tennis, or golf. Very fresh but denotes class and style; it feels like a ‘rich kid’ from California. I recommend it highly; I love it too much. The only downside is longevity; I wish it lasted and projected more, but you can reapply. The price doesn’t feel excessive to me.

  • To me, this is like Nautica Voyage on steroids. It has a slightly different DNA, but not much; I sense a hint of pepper, maybe basil. It’s quite rich.

  • Polo Blue is, by far, my favorite classic fragrance. I know there are better ones, but this one brings me nostalgia and memories. It’s like stepping back into the past, even though the scent is still current. I bought it again last summer for that nostalgia, and I have to admit it lasts just enough. It has a glorious first hour with that exceptional melon and cucumber opening—ozonic and sharp; by the second hour, it struggles to survive like a weary castaway, and by the third or fourth, only a earthy trace remains on the skin. It’s not even worth the price. What a shame such a good scent is like this. Edit: Despite what I said, I bought it again. 200ml to bathe in during summer. Honestly, with my experience in perfumery and a good collection, I can’t find anything (affordable) I like more for a few hours outside the house.

  • An elegant, masculine, executive perfume with presence, great sillage, and longevity. It practically lasts all day on the skin (others can definitely smell it) with just a few sprays. Worth it. The scent is aquatic, well-aromatic, and woody. Captivating.

  • Elmachodelaunion

I love this fragrance: blue with that characteristic musky touch and great note quality. It’s hard not to like it; it’s versatile and not as formal as Black. The dry down is a bit sharp. I recommend it blindly without any hesitation.

  • A lovely scent for cutting the day or if you’ve tried many perfumes and want to relax and unwind. It invites tranquility; it’s soft, simple, and fresh, yet addictive over time. The aquatic and fruity top notes blend into a clean, musky sensation, with a subtle floral sweetness that rounds it out, making it a true gem.

  • Easy to wear and easy to love. If it had a bit more longevity, it would definitely be my go-to fragrance.

  • I’ve been wearing this for over a decade, and perhaps due to aging, it now smells of seaweed and water—notes not listed on the bottle. I can’t detect the melon or anything else. It’s literally the ocean, like that pleasant breeze hitting you at a seaside bar. I’m not sure if they reformulated it; I heard it in a store and it was different but had the same soul, or maybe the quality just dropped over time. The only downside is it doesn’t last or project much—at least, I can’t smell it on myself, though others might. Still, I’d recommend it 100% for summer.

  • It’s the fragrance for the punctual man, the one in the neatly ironed light blue shirt asking for a latte. Polo Blue smells good, too good, almost dangerously correct. That blend of diluted melon, risk-free lavender, and tamed woods doesn’t seek to seduce; it aims to please. And it succeeds, just like thousands of men who smell the same. There’s nothing offensive or emotional about it. It’s the olfactory equivalent of ‘better safe than sorry.’ It smells like an air-conditioned office, a freshly washed car, or a date that ends with a handshake. Be careful: its success is undeniable. It works, projects cleanliness, and communicates ‘I’m reliable.’ That’s why everyone uses it. Polo Blue is a hymn to perfumed conformity: the fragrance that has everything because it refused to lose anything.

  • Well, if you like the scent of a clean man, woody notes, and all that, it’s perfect for the office without needing much application, as it’s a bit strong for my nose.

  • Damián 369

Polo Blue EDT is a versatile daily fragrance, perfect for studying or working. Fresh, not sweet, easy to like, and unique—it doesn’t resemble anything, neither designer nor Arabic scents. Ideal if you want something cool but not citrusy. I’d summarize the notes as: cucumber, a very subtle hint of melon, and basil with suede, which add texture and weight without losing freshness. The rest isn’t noticeable. Performance is decent with generous application (8 to 13 sprays), lasting a solid 5 hours on skin, with a 1.5-meter sillage for the first hour before becoming more intimate. I recommend applying it on clothes. Given the price and ease of finding it, I totally recommend it for daily use; it suits all ages. Since it has no hype, you’ll smell different, rich, and project confidence.

  • I had it years ago and generally, it’s good; it smells fresh, aquatic, and masculine. But I never perceived the cucumber, melon, or tangerine notes; the woody notes dominated. Additionally, right from the launch, I felt something going straight to my throat like an odd itch that I didn’t like.

  • Anecdote: I went to buy a gift for a friend’s boyfriend and chose this because… tastes are strange! Most people rave about Polo Blue EDT. I didn’t like it at all; it gave me a strong aversion. A few days later, my friend told me she didn’t like it either, and I asked why since she had previously said she did. She mentioned smelling it on a coworker and saying it didn’t smell as good on her boyfriend. Maybe the coworker used the EDP, or perhaps her boyfriend’s skin just rejected the scent. This happens to me with L’eau d’Issey: I don’t like it much, but my skin adores it, and I get home with good comments. The world of fragrances, huh?

  • Sergioparfum

Super great perfume for everyday wear, goes perfectly with a shirt. The downside is longevity, but it’s so pleasant that if you get it at a good price, it’s not a shame to reapply it several times.

  • alpacavelluda

It’s one of the best smells I’ve ever tried in my life, a shame it doesn’t last long on the skin.

  • IvanIglesias

Polo Blue and YSL Y will be my two favorites. Polo smells like cucumber, melon, and tangerine at first, very distinct notes, then it becomes woody and fresh while keeping the citrus. I wear it in spring and summer, it’s daily, for the office or going out to eat. It smells like a well-dressed, tidy, classy person, like a nautical athlete. I don’t see it for dressing poorly. It lasts about 6-7 hours (close to 6), and with overspraying, it shows up on clothes. It’s easy and simple, but I’ve never smelled anything like it, except its flankers. Men and women have always liked it. It brings back memories of many beach vacations.

  • BastitoFragance

This perfume defines the young man: fresh, soft, and clean, like you just stepped out of the shower. It’s incredible; I’ve been full of compliments because it’s hypnotic and addictive. The only flaw is that it doesn’t last long. Ideal for ages 12 to 50, it’s quite youthful. 8/10.

  • On Skin Parfums

Hello, I picked up this Ralph Lauren Blue EDT in-store for about €40 for 75ml. For me, it’s the king of daily wear in the heat: fresh thanks to the cucumber, aromatic, and super easy to wear. Honestly, no one has disliked it. Note: on dry skin, it lasts just about 4 hours (it lasts longer on oily skin). The longevity is short, but the scent makes up for it and it’s worth it. The sillage is discreet and doesn’t invade. I recommend it as a fresh, safe fragrance for everyday use, although its weak point is longevity. Try it first and let it dry for 30 minutes before giving your opinion.
