Quorum Silver by Antonio Puig

I bought it because of the good reviews, the low price, and because I like classic scents. I’m satisfied and often lift my shirt collar to smell it. Curiously, the opening smells like aged lemon with a bit of mold, but it’s tolerable; within a few minutes, the scent becomes appealing. In short: a modern fougère with a well-marked citrus touch.

I don’t recommend it to anyone. The smell is very forgettable and feels too mature to me.

This budget perfume puts many niche fragrances working with spicy woods to shame. The quality is impressive; at a price similar to Encre Noire (around $20 on sale), it’s a find. The opening has the most authentic cedar I’ve ever smelled: bright, intense, like the inside of a freshly carved board. Warm and fresh spices keep it vibrant, with crystallized ginger, floral lavender, and the best nutmeg I’ve tried. Pink pepper gives it a sparkling touch, and guaiac in the dry down adds an extraordinary semi-sweet, balsamic palo santo vibe. The result is impactful: it starts with a refreshing punch and then becomes warm and comforting in one movement. It’s delicious from start to finish. (Fun fact: the atomizer is incredible, it sprays a perfect mist, something you wouldn’t expect at this price). No wonder it was one of my favorites in 2024, despite having more expensive options. It’s perfect for lifting your mood at the office and lasts all day. Chapeau.

Although I consider the Silver version ‘usable’, unlike its older brother which I’d recommend only to people over 70, I think here you get what you pay for. It’s a cheap fragrance and, to be unfair, it smells like one. It’s what it is and nothing more. Recommended if you want to get into perfumery without spending much.

Smells like woods and varnish, like being inside a furniture store. Original aroma, I don’t have a similar match in my collection. It could smell very strong to more conventional noses, but it’s worth it for its vibe. It’s for days and temperate climates; it loses charm at night, except on warm nights. It’s for casual use, without losing its serious, no-nonsense masculine touch, even having an elegant facet. Performance with a sharp opening, evolution, projection, and trail, giving more than it’s worth (almost a cheapy). Medium longevity on skin. It’s totally different from its older siblings Quorum or Aqua; this Silver is more democratic in terms of generational appeal, but without losing its strong personality, nor is it a fruity fresh unisex type far from that (Aqua is the most wearable of the three if we talk about mass appeal). Thanks to Puig for still distributing it in South America at a ridiculous price. I’d restock it, as I’m going through it quickly this summer 2023. Edit: in its spicy, sharp woody facet, it walks the line of Bois Imperial, keeping quality distance between the two, without saying they are the same, by no means, but the Silver is very worthy for its segment. It’s almost hidden and rarely mentioned, try it if you have the luck to get your hands on it.

At 7€ for 50ml, Quorum Silver is hard to beat. It’s ideal when temperatures drop below 18°C. It opens with cedar and a hint of lavender that smells like wet wood, followed by citrus and spices (I don’t detect the cinnamon, and I like that). The dry down has two phases: first gaïac wood, then just patchouli clinging to the skin after 12 hours. Nowadays, some perfumes don’t even last an hour! Antonio Puig is doing the math right and it’s a smart business move at 15€ per 100ml; it’s honest pricing. If it were Loewe Solo Cedar, it’d cost 60€ and nobody would complain. It reminds me of Azzaro Visit and follows a similar path as Gucci Pour Homme or Comme des Garçons 2, but with a touch of Agua Brava. If you like Agua Brava, you’ll definitely like this. It’s very masculine, woody, perfect for the office or occasional outings, it doesn’t bother anyone, and it honestly smells great.

This is a very mature woody scent; it smells like varnished wood or being in a carpentry workshop with freshly cut wood. It smells good, but I can’t see myself wearing it; it feels too mature for me. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re between 18 and 25, unless you love mature scents (it’s not vintage, but it’s the kind of scent your uncle or dad would wear). Out of the three Quorum options, only Aqua Quorum is youthful and versatile for any age.

Total madness! What a noble fragrance: good, cheap, and a masterpiece by Antonio Puig. It’s citrusy with an air of a gentleman’s barbershop… the dry down is sublime. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Thinking about it today brought this fragrance to mind. Back in Chile, those years I worked as a promoter for a Puig agency and was at its 2005 launch. Haha, I remember I didn’t even want to smell it; at 24, it felt like something for old men, and as Bofifa says, it was strange to launch a classic back then. Reluctantly, I sprayed it on my hand and WOW SURPRISE! It felt exquisite. I immediately thought of a more formal or orderly wardrobe… and I usually wore the opposite, haha. But I have that memory of it being very good, very well-made, delivering way more than it costs. It’s worth having; I think it’s one of those fragrances that always saves you when you don’t know what to wear. An excellent BBB.

It’s a very strong scent (winter type), but with lavender, it becomes excellent for autumn. I recommend it if you want a great-value scent that doesn’t disappoint.

Very good. It smells very ‘Annick Menardo’: refined, classy, and without any flashiness. Notes of cedar, flowers, a spicy touch of ginger, something marine, spices, and lavender. The longevity is good, but the projection is weak; it stays close to the skin after two hours, though the dry-down is spectacular. Reminds me of Azzaro’s Visit but softer and less incense-heavy. A discovery that at 10 euros, you don’t need to think twice about it. An 8/10.

Quorum Silver fits well as a spicy woody scent. It opens with herbal and citrus notes that last a couple of minutes before giving way to cedar, pepper, and nutmeg, which is what lingers. I find it versatile; although it’s spicy, it’s not heavy, making it ideal for spring and autumn or for the office. Longevity was good, around 10 hours, though it doesn’t project much. It has an almost linear development, smells good, and is slightly synthetic, but for the price, you can’t ask for more; in fact, it outperforms more expensive fragrances. Puig could name it after one of their designers and sell it for more. In short, it’s not outstanding, but it works for several occasions and smells great.

Reviewing a sample that still says ‘Puig.’ On the box, the olfactory pyramid differs from Fragrantica’s. Top: artemisia, ginger, pink pepper, mandarin. Heart: cardamom, cinnamon, lavender, and cedar. Base: amber, guaiac, and musk (not patchouli). At the start, moderate trail with soft artemisia, ginger, mandarin, and pink pepper, a bit of cardamom. At 5 hours, I notice soft cedar and lavender. At 8 hours, it reminds me of parts of Terre d’Hermès. At 12 hours, I perceive amber, cedar, and musk (not patchouli). I liked it, but it didn’t blow my mind. It has a moderate trail that drops to soft, and it’s more versatile than its brother, Quorum. It can last up to 12 hours with a bit of over-application. It becomes pleasant for intermediate seasons and daytime wear. If you need something non-invasive, it could be a good choice.

A slight disappointment since I bought a full 100ml bottle based on previous reviews, although for the price, the failure is minimal. It opens quite pleasantly with herbal, citrus, and lavender notes. It lasts 5-10 minutes. The problem is the dry-down: the fragrance becomes very flat, the nutmeg and wood notes feel shallow, unrealistic, and very synthetic, and the whole thing turns monotonous, even becoming unpleasant. I confess that the ‘cedar’ notes in many fragrances (I feel this with Loewe’s Solo Cedro) seem too artificial to me, or even non-existent. It costs very little, sure, but according to that logic, ‘Nenuco’ in family format smells better and comes out much cheaper. xD Review of a bottle bought in 2017. It’s possible that the Quorum Silver formula drakecito is referring to is a recent version with lower performance. Mine, from a February 2012 batch, has slightly more than moderate trail and projection and lasts about 8 hours. In Spain, it’s easier to buy since it’s the country of manufacture; in Colombia, it’s available but not abundant, so the available versions are older, which I consider positive. My opinion isn’t biased by the price. Although reiterating it’s not always relevant when evaluating the scent, I personally don’t give numerical ratings out of fashion or attachment to ‘YouTuber’ or ‘blogger’ trends. I don’t want to pose as a guru either; I always add a note at the end just to complement my opinion.
