Descripción
Aqva Pour Homme by Bvlgari is an aromatic aquatic fragrance for men. Launched in 2005, the nose behind this composition is Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. The top notes unfold with mandarin, orange, and petit grain; the heart reveals sea algae, lavender, and cotton flower; while the base notes settle on Virginia cedar, woody nuances, patchouli, helichrysum, and amber.

For years it dominated the Top Ten list of the 80s until Acqua di Giò dethroned it in 1996, and nearly a decade later this masterpiece by Jacques Cavallier appeared, making it a benchmark and classic. Fresh, clean, bitter, seductive, and versatile, it’s the best bet for the start of summer. It calls for light clothing, fruit juices, afternoons at the beach, and long nights. It opens with orange and tangerine among algae, with a salty touch that defines its oceanic line. Cedar and lavender don’t clash in the heart, and petit grain gives it unparalleled freshness to finish with a soft amber and a penetrating yet non-annoying patchouli. Aquatic and refreshing, women adore it and it’s safe for dates you want to prolong. It’s the quintessential summer perfume. Although it has spectacular flankers, none match it. One downside: it lacks projection and sillage; I like a perfume that makes itself felt and invites closeness, and Aqva pour Homme suffers from being too weak, needing more power and longevity. Still, it’s terribly good, fresh, and marine. I can’t imagine a summer without it.
I thought hard before buying it for two reasons: first, I already owned Acqua di Giò Profumo with beautiful marine notes; second, I previously had Amara, which polarizes tastes. My last girlfriend smelled like fermented oranges, while some colleagues thought it smelled musty, whereas others adored it. I bought it yesterday and wore it today on a cold, humid day after rain. It smells spectacular—more sweet orange than Amara, but less intense. The algae are very noticeable. This one smells like pure sea, unlike Armani’s Profumo. It still has a lot of character and I expect it to be just as polarizing, though I hope less aggressive. I bought it for myself. Longevity: my skin chemistry is intense, so it must be good. It worked well today with just a few sprays and a nice trail. In Mexico City with dry heat, performance dropped, but it works better in humid climates. If you travel by public transport or sweat a lot, performance is poor, but you can overapply or carry it in your bag to reapply upon arrival. Preferably use it in summer, at the beach, or in warm climates. DO NOT BUY BLIND: ask someone if the smell of algae and fermented orange bothers them. If you want it for yourself, it’s a good investment. I got it for 1200 pesos, a great price. Update: with the dry city heat, performance dropped. If there’s heavy sweating, it’s better to apply it upon arrival. Worth it if you’re looking for a true aquatic with a sea breeze. Not for kids or 20-year-old college students, but for 25-50 year olds, mature, designed for warm and humid climates.
This water isn’t crystal clear, simple, or light. It’s from the depths of the sea, a mysterious aroma blending bitter citrus, salt, and wood. It’s not overused; few people wear it, but that makes it even more special.
It smells like aloe vera, just that.
What a delightful scent! It’s the aquatic I like the most; it smells like the sea and is so fresh. Perfect for heading to the coast and enjoying the beach, very versatile for any time of day. It adds a special touch since it’s not as overused; if you wear it, you’ll stand out and won’t lack compliments.
Excellent aquatic fragrance. You can truly feel the sea, salty water, and freshness.
I had to gift it away due to its weak projection, but it’s still a good perfume, ideal for summer and better suited for daytime wear.
I’m one of those who believes perfumes deserve a second chance. At first, it felt very generic, almost like deodorant, but months later it won me over. Now I see it as clean, with pleasant citrus and a heart reminiscent of Amara. The dry down is a soft woody finish, perfect for summer outdoors. It speaks of cleanliness, freedom, and masculinity—acidic and intrepid like an ocean. Warm like a beach sunset, inviting you to stay together. Something unforgettable.
I’m not a pro with my nose, but when I smelled it blind, I liked the citrus opening with something peculiar—a salty sensation mixed with marine plants. Now I know it’s algae, and honestly, it’s very fresh and different. I didn’t dislike it; quite the opposite, I loved it. As for longevity, I don’t have a meter, but I can definitely feel it for at least 6 to 7 hours.
Unique and totally original fragrance. Very masculine: fresh at first, but over time it gains salty and bitter nuances. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I absolutely love that feeling. The bottle is eye-catching and practical thanks to its distinctive design. A must-have classic for any serious perfume collection.
SMELL: EXCELLENT. PROJECTILE: GOOD. LONGEVITY: GOOD. QUALITY: EXCELLENT. BLIND BUY: YES 8/10. INCREDIBLE SCENT, FOR REAL. BUT THE PERFORMANCE IS MODERATE TO LOW.
Along with Aqva Amara, this is the best of Bvlgari and of citrus aquatics. After trying all the Aqvas, if I had to choose one personally, it would be this Aqva Pour Homme. It’s perfect: a citrus explosion with fresh salty notes, very refreshing and energizing. I feel great wearing it. Among fresh, aquatic, and citrus scents, I believe there’s nothing better than the Italians: ADG by Armani, Light Blue by Dolce&Gabbana, and the Aqvas by Bvlgari (in the designer range). Longevity is very good, 7-8 hours, sometimes more, and it lingers on clothes for the next day. Projection is moderate and appropriate, though it might bother if overdone. It’s versatile: summer, but also suitable for spring and autumn, and works both day and night.
I didn’t like it much. It gives me a sensation of salt crust and algae, with a damp, sickly smell, like sea breeze soaked in rancid melon from the sun and sweatpants. It’s summery but annoying and depressing due to the synthetics, like many aquatics. The development and complexity are non-existent. After 40 minutes it breaks down quickly; if you like it, a mineral vibe remains. It’s like being on a boat rocked by waves; I feel seasick between the sea and the fastidious chemical effluvia of this Bvlgari. I shouldn’t be standing by the ship under the sun trapped in this scent. I want to get off the boat and forget my stumble with Aqua.
A standout fragrance. It was the first Aqva I owned and I still wear it; it’s addictive. I prefer its sibling, Aqva Marine, which is more citrusy and sparkling; the original smells saltier and goes to the deep ocean, not the beach. I wouldn’t recommend it as an entry-level scent, though it was mine. Its algae base is more intense and provocative, so it’s better if you’ve already gotten used to it in another version, like Marine. That note can smell like eggs to some, so test it on your skin before buying. Regarding performance, I haven’t found an aquatic that performs better: it lasts and projects well, waking up in waves with the heat. Its flaw is a lack of versatility: it’s not a Swiss Army knife, it’s a specialist. For summer, it’s a champion; if you’re at the beach, you blend in perfectly, and in the city far from the sea, it stirs up longing for what we lack. The catch is that the sea doesn’t smell this good.
Aqua di Gio smells like a river in the forest, Davidoff like fresh salty beach, and this one feels like taking a catamaran out into the deep blue sea where you can barely see land. It’s a blue ocean scent with clear water and a refreshing feel. Perfect summer longevity, a mix of woods with a soft salty touch. Over-applying? Yes, a couple of sprays and it’s fantastic. Works best in the heat, ideal for summer and rainy autumn days. As percypomares said, I love this review.
Totally agree with Very_gentleman. What a beauty, timeless and marine within the realm of commercial scents. Perfect for a t-shirt, white shirt, shorts, and loafers at the beach or a party. Energizing and brings life. If you’re looking for more punch, Light Blue Intense is better, but considering the 13-year difference, I stick with how visionary Bvlgari was with this one.
Aqva by Bvlgari: moderate sillage for the first hour, then it fades until it disappears in 4-5 hours, which I dislike about this house since their other perfumes usually perform better. It’s a delicious scent for those who love fresh, aquatic, and woody notes, as it blends both. In my mind, it doesn’t take me to the sea, but to a deep lake surrounded by trees, pure air, and peace, or to a crystal-clear stream in the jungle where light filters through the canopy. The dark green bottle and box also remind me of the forest. It denotes class and elegance, but I would have wanted more sillage, projection, and longevity.
I met this years ago and fell in love: citrusy, with spicy notes, and overwhelmingly marine, very masculine and striking, especially for women. Today, after more than 10 years, I’m still enchanted and it’s a must-have in my collection. I wear it for informal occasions, outdoors, and during the day with a white shirt and open buttons; 5-6 sprays and you break the atmosphere. For the office or daily wear, moderate the sprays because it projects 3 meters and in the elevator, you’re forgotten.
Spectacular fragrance for men, impeccable, fresh, and with an incredible clean scent. Projection and longevity are excellent. It’s fresh and aquatic, but over time it becomes deep, woody, and distinguished. I love it; it smells like a handsome man. Ideal for lovers of marine scents and all women.
Absolutely groundbreaking. After 18 years, it still teaches you how to create something unique—loved or hated because it’s not easy. It starts with sour mandarin and fallen orange, then opens up with lavender and cedar alongside patchouli. The star is that touch of sea salt and algae: it smells like stepping out of the water, drying in the sun, and feeling the sea breeze with wet woods. It smells like happiness and pure summer. Good longevity and moderate sillage. If you want to feel different in spring and summer, it’s a fantastic and underrated choice. Cheers!
This fragrance stands out for two things: the scent and the bottle. Few perfumes give a hint of their smell through the bottle, and this is one of them, along with the Marine. It really smells like what the bottle teaches: an aquatic turquoise, like a cenote. Fresh, invigorating, wearable, performing, and fulfilling. The scent is rich; the mix of algae and citrus makes it indispensable for warm climates, and the best part is that it performs very well in the cold. Versatile in every way. And to be honest, it’s one of my favorites. The price isn’t that expensive if you know where to look. Highly recommended.
This is my first review, and I’m giving it to my favorite from the collection. It was the first designer fragrance I bought seven years ago and introduced me to this passion. For me, it’s SPECTACULAR, a summer fragrance that goes beyond the ordinary, diving deep into the sea and giving elegance that I don’t find in other marine scents. Although longevity and projection aren’t spectacular, it’s indispensable. I’d recommend trying it before buying, as some say it smells like rotten eggs when mixed with skin pH; in me, I only perceive wonders, but I imagine the algae don’t react well on some skin. I’m in love.
Versatile and timeless, for young and old. Fresh with longevity and trail appropriate to the price. In my opinion, it’s for spring-summer, although it performs well in autumn-winter. Recommended, it disappoints in nothing.
A different and refined fragrance that defined an era for Bvlgari. Salty, marine, timeless, and not overly mainstream. I recommend the entire Aqva line, although several are already discontinued.
AQVA POUR HOMME BVLGARI: One of the most spectacular and versatile marine scents. So well-crafted that every time I smell it, I’m surprised. Fresh, ethereal, masculine, light, and authentic personality. Modern like the latest trends. It’s a marvel that leaves calm, harmony, and a floating beauty. Although it might seem redundant, marine and aquatic aren’t the same; here they unite perfectly: the sea crashing on the sand and the deep sea, giving balance. Excellent fragrance, not just for warm climates, although that’s its natural habitat. One of the best in its class, with good performance. A ‘must’ in any collection. Scent 10, projection 3 hours well, longevity 7-8 hours. Recommended.
A very particular and wonderful scent. It’s my favorite. Marine and slightly sweet citrus notes that stay true throughout the entire trail. The price is high now, but it’s worth it.
I was bewildered. I went with the idea of finding that smell of the North European sea, but it was a mistake. Not all seas smell the same, nor does the coast smell like the open sea; it depends on the climate, the boat, the beach, or the waterfront. There’s a common scent of algae, brine, and stones that I remember from Sweden, Brittany, and northern Spain. Smelling the cardboard, I couldn’t associate it with what I was looking for. I went with my mind closed and the foolishness of forgetting that these products must smell good; the smell I’m looking for isn’t necessarily a great cologne scent. I was frustrated finding a pleasant aquatic product with well-structured citrus and fresh algae (not the old stuff from the shore) and a nice woody cushion. It wasn’t what I expected, but it’s a good product, though I prefer Aqva Marine. Projection and longevity are acceptable but could be better. Very versatile. Recommended to try. I think somewhere out there is that ‘rebellious’ perfume I’m looking for. The lesson: try with an open mind.
I tested it alongside Aqva Marine and took the Marine, which I bought half a year ago. Today I tried this Aqva again: it’s a good scent, ideal for a night out in an informal shirt while walking by the beach, deeper than the Marine (which is more daytime), but I was very disappointed by its performance. Right after leaving the store, I had to press my nose against my skin. It’s good quality, but even the Marine, which I already complained about, is longer-lasting and fresher. In short, try both, but I recommend the Marine more: I like it better, it performs better, and it captures the sea better. It’s my summer favorite and the one that best captures the sea to date.
Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme is pure ocean and serenity. Ideal for the modern man looking for something clean and energetic, perfect for daily wear and summer heat. Vibrant citrus notes at the start, an aquatic heart with lavender, and a warm woody base. Moderate price. Note: it’s light and in cold weather needs reapplication to maintain freshness. Scent 9/10, moderate but sufficient projection and longevity. It’s a valid, reliable option, and recommended if you’re seeking freshness in the summer.
My favorite aquatic. What a vigorous perfume, an algae scent that feels like a sea breeze, I love it. It doesn’t seem like an elegant aroma, but it works perfectly for everyday wear as long as you’re neat in a polo shirt or something more relaxed.
Smells strongly of the ocean, with that touch of algae that gives it character. It’s semi-formal and reminded me of Male Aviator for some reason.
Does anyone know of anything similar? I just smelled the 2005 version and the 2024 version, and they have nothing to do with each other; the 2005 one wins hands down. You can really taste the orange, and it has something that makes it even a bit boozy, maybe the seaweed. I’m going to resell the 2024 one; I just didn’t like it.
Fresh and marine, a very rich scent that transports you to the ocean. The seaweed note is elegant, enjoyable, and appreciated. Perfect for personal use, though on my skin it doesn’t last more than an hour.
Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme. This was my first Bvlgari scent (not a brand that comes to mind first when I’m choosing a perfume). It’s a pleasant marine fragrance with a metallic touch, fresh, citrusy, and slightly powdery, yet it doesn’t really stand out. It has a sharp opening, but then it relaxes quite a bit, leaving marine algae and lavender in the dry down. I think there are much superior and far more affordable ‘blue’ fragrances, like Boucheron Singulier. I’m not saying it’s bad by any means, but the price is excessive for what it offers. Rating: 5/10.
Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme is an easy-to-wear fragrance, strictly for daytime on sunny days. Unfortunately, the aquatic niche is pretty saturated; there are plenty of deals and some better options out there.
Mixed expectations. I had high expectations with Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme, mainly because it’s by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. And in a way, I wasn’t wrong, but at the same time, I was disappointed… let me explain. I was looking for and longing for those unique marine notes that evoke the bottom of the sea, just as advertised. My surprise was finding that, as it dries down, Aqva seems like a “daughter” of the famous Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey, perceiving that distinctive yuzu note characteristic of its “mother.” Do I regret buying it? Not at all. Let’s say Aqva is a more timid version of L’Eau d’Issey, which I particularly enjoy for that bitter citrus aroma of the yuzu, presented here in a more contained way. It’s an interesting fragrance with an unexpected connection. My rating: 7.5/10
Aqva Pour Homme is one of those perfumes that hooks you from the very first second. The opening is a delicious citrus blend of bitter orange and tangerine, fresh, energizing, and very well crafted. An elegant freshness, nothing synthetic. But what really defines it appears right away: the marine algae note. Greenish, slightly bitter, with a salty touch that smells like the real sea. This is the soul of the perfume. There’s also a hint of lavender that adds cleanliness and freshness, complementing the whole well. It’s aquatic, yes, but in a refined and natural way; it’s not the typical generic aquatic, but something much cleaner, more elegant, and masculine. In full development, I still notice that blend: soft citrus, marine algae, salt, a touch of green and mineral, all very balanced. It perfectly evokes summer days, the beach, sea breeze… it’s an aroma that transports you. For me, one of my favorite aquatics. As it dries down, it becomes softer and warmer, with a base of amber and woods that maintain the freshness but add a more rounded touch. It stays clean, fresh, and elegant, but now with a warmer, calmer nuance. The bottle also deserves special mention: a very peculiar design, like a squashed sea drop. Beautiful, but tricky to store if not in its original box. Longevity on my skin: about 7 hours, with moderate projection and sillage. Perfect perfume for spring and summer, for hot days, both day and night, and especially for those seeking a fresh, elegant, masculine, and classy scent. Rating: 8.5/10
Totally captivating. I picked it up on a Facebook group at a good price, so I barely know it yet. If I’ve used Aqva Marine a lot, I can say this version is deeper, more mature, and has more body; Marine is much more youthful and refreshing. I’m really liking it; today was my first day wearing it and I already got a compliment. I feel it delivers and is great, otherwise I wouldn’t pay the full prices asked here in Argentina (around $125 USD). It smells good dry, marine, somewhat mature, and relatively easy to wear. I love the seaweed. That said, my favorite from the line remains, by far, Marine. But this one performs very well.
My first encounter with something more mature and masculine, designed for formal settings. It starts strong with woods and sophisticated citrus, then dries down softly to a clean, non-intrusive lavender accompanied by seaweed that adds a pleasant salty tone. For me, it’s the essential cologne for the office or anyone seeking sophistication without spending more than $200.
It’s like the deep ocean with class and sophistication. Ideal for work, though you need to appreciate that exotic, greenish seaweed note that defines it. It’s unique, and although it’s been on the market for years, it’s getting harder to find.
