The best of Polo for me. Rich fruity aroma, doesn’t smell as much like alcohol as Blue. It’s perfect for daily wear, timeless, and looks luxurious in the office.
One of my favorites, a unique and totally versatile scent. Fresh, citrusy, sweet, elegant, with a woody and enigmatic touch. Works well in all seasons, day and night, formal and informal. The scent isn’t too intense, lasts 5-6 hours, and I think it suits all ages.
I tried it and loved it. At 8 hours, my son, standing a meter away, said he could smell my perfume. I could still detect it on my skin 12 hours later. One of my favorites.
A totally recommended classic.
One of the few recent Ralph Lauren men’s fragrances worth buying (the brand has had quality issues lately). The best part about Polo Black is that the reformulation didn’t ruin it like they did to Blue or the obliterated Green. I love the fruity-summer concept with a nocturnal edge, featuring cold mango giving way to citrus. The only downside is average performance: low longevity (max 4-5 hours) and a not very noticeable sillage.
I bought Green, Red, and Black in 118ml, 125ml, and 100ml bottles. I gifted one to my dad, thinking he’d pick Green. Big mistake… the ultimate test. Green brought back memories for him, but since it’s a classic, he moved on. He liked Red, but tried Black. Black surprised us all: it felt like Paris Hilton for Men but less synthetic and more masculine. It was the winner of the trilogy. It’s magic, just as Fragrantica mentioned. I love it and plan to buy more soon. I give it a definitive 9, despite the short longevity.
It’s not a beast as it might seem; it’s citrusy with sweet accords. I’d wear it to the mall or for a stroll—great for hanging out with a friend and projecting calm. Works for day and night, though projection and longevity aren’t as strong as Polo Blue or Green. It’s for young adults starting their lives: working, maintaining a car, going out. Calm yet seductive; if the wearer is a player, girls won’t forget the scent. It carries that high-class Ralph Lauren vibe, which is rare to see. The mango adds that carefree sweetness. Longevity: 4/10. Projection: 6/10. Masculinity: 5.5/10. Sensuality: 4/10. Overall rating: 5/10.
I love olfactory challenges like Sauvage, A*Men, or Polo Red Extreme; I didn’t like them at first, but they grew on me. With Polo, that’s exactly what happened: the Blue line is pleasant, but Black is my first love with a distinct character. That mango-sandalwood note is a unique proposition. Longevity isn’t great (4-5 hours), but I tested it in cool weather, so it feels more autumnal or spring-like. Welcome, Polo Black!
Fresh fruity scent, nothing dark, with a playful twist. The frozen mango with absinthia stands out, giving way to woody notes later. Perfect for spring and summer—fresh but not citrusy, purely fruity. Formal enough for black pants, white shirt, and black tie, yet it has a sexy edge. Longevity: 6 hours. Versatility: 8/10. Originality: 7/10.
I wore this from ages 19 to 25, and now at 32, I’m buying it again. It truly captivates; it remains one of my all-time favorites. Extremely versatile across seasons, times of day, occasions, and age groups. Simply a gem in perfumery.
Delightful fragrance, especially right after spraying. Smells like exquisite citrus and watermelon. Projection isn’t great after an hour or two. But still, it’s a truly rich perfume
On the brand’s page, there’s a guy with a black bottle labeled ‘parfum,’ the new cantaloupe-style design, is the EDP coming? Does anyone know?
Rich, sweet citrus, nothing new
Pleasant, a well-fruity citrus. I use it sometimes for work, but it’s not very interesting. Lasts less than I’d like
VERY VERSATILE fragrance, masculine and appealing to everyone. Works in summer or winter, for a 20-year-old or a 50-year-old. Great for parties or the office. For me, it’s the best of Polo. Normal longevity. In short, it’s exquisite… but a snob won’t admit it because it’s ‘Polo’ and because ‘there’s no YouTube review’ 🙁 It’s quite fresh and not sweet at all, contrary to what some wrote or what Fragrantica says; ABSOLUTELY NOT SWEET. 👌 Remember, it’s aquatic and fruity… (obviously, it’s not new… it’s been around almost 18 years u_U* haha)
This is, by FAR, my favorite for night. Longevity isn’t great and the sillage is short, but wearing it on my skin boosts my confidence
Smells great, very fruity with a green touch. Nothing groundbreaking, but it delivers. Perfect for daily wear, fresh, like Lacoste 12.12 White. Moderate longevity and sillage
I don’t know why, but putting it on gave me nausea, could it be the absinthe?
There’s no tropical note; it’s just a sweet, acidic citrus scent
Very fruity, super cheerful, I love it
Fruity opening but very mature, nothing childish like One Million or similar scents like 212 Black VIP. This is for mature men, with a slight sweet tropical fruit vibe like passion fruit, mango, or watermelon. With a very good dry down where tonka vanilla and herbal notes appear. Longevity 6-8 hours, all-rounder, but I don’t see myself using it in summer at 30 degrees or more. Wide sillage but not suffocating. 9/10 The fruity opening could have lasted longer.
I tested it on skin and it’s a bit fruity and herbal in the opening, but as it dries quickly, marine-mossy notes like Aqua di Gio emerge, and it becomes similar to Lacoste L.12.12 Blanc, meaning a fresh marine aroma with mandarin. Those who like marine scents will like it. I don’t like them so it wasn’t to my taste. It has something of the Polo DNA but almost nothing. Being fresh and marine, I can’t imagine it for night, and I don’t understand its ‘Black’ designation. I didn’t smell any mango or habanoka. Applied on paper and clothes, the sweet notes of orange and the Polo DNA last a bit longer and feel very pleasant, but then the marine note emerges, so I recommend testing it on skin to avoid surprises with the dry down
It’s really not that tropical; it’s a very green, rich but fleeting mango, with very fresh woody notes standing out that I like a lot. Easy to use and very masculine but with poor performance
It’s neither sweet nor citrusy. It’s an African fruity (tropical) marine scent and obviously the mango note is barely noticeable; the mango note is like that, I have more than 4 perfumes with mango and they’re all the same. Have you ever smelled a mango? Its scent is soft and green
Just bought it and there’s nothing tropical or sweet; it’s a very fresh, woody, masculine scent, similar to Polo Blue, easy to wear day and night in autumn and winter, and only at night in spring-summer
The only ‘sweet’ thing it has is the habanoka touch… but no, gentlemen, that doesn’t turn it into a sweet perfume… 🌝
If you like Armani Code, this follows the same path… fresh and versatile 🔥🤙 The habanoka touch makes it nocturnal and the mango makes it tropical and original 🤙 (Ridiculous that some people want to project wearing just 2 sprays…)
A masculine yet versatile fragrance. It’s male but has a sweet, tropical, and fresh vibe, I don’t know how to explain it… maybe that’s why this Polo is more recommended for young men aged 25+ compared to Polo Green. Normal longevity, I recommend it for spring nights
Nothing sweet; it’s a totally tropical perfume, ideal for summer and spring, with priority use at night. If you’re in a tropical climate in winter, you could wear it during the day. I don’t recommend it for extreme climates. It’s my signature scent since I can remember
Polo Black by Ralph Lauren. Tried to copy the success of its predecessor (Polo Blue) but failed. I was expecting something beastly and it disappointed me. For example, it’s almost impossible to find while Polo Blue keeps selling and has many derivatives. Notes of tropical fruits with a hint of cinnamon and resinous woods. Moderate opening, weak projection, and almost no sillage. I recommend it for some autumn or spring nights. If you want projection, use more than 10 sprays. Rating: 5/10
Super brief, run-of-the-mill perfume; my wife didn’t like it, and neither did I much; the scent doesn’t stand out.
Light orange, ambered, slightly bitter, mossy, and marine. I sense it like an Aqua di Gio Profondo but much less intense. I don’t understand why they called it ‘black’ if the scent has nothing dark about it.
I like it a lot. For the office in autumn and winter. Spring only after 6 PM. Summer? No way. This perfume is serious, but not old. It’s not for kids; it’s for someone over 30 in a professional context.
I grabbed the 125ml for $75 and took advantage of it, since it’s super expensive in Argentina. It’s a delight; you can feel the mango right away. Pity the short longevity: 4 hours on skin, 1 hour projection, and low trail, short distance. It’s not sensual for a date; I see it for a well-dressed shirt. Worth it if you love the aroma, as there are few men’s perfumes with mango.
I love the mango note; it makes it addictive. Very good for the office or meetings, versatile. It’s not overpowering, but it does its job. Polo needs to step up and release a refreshed version like they did with Blue and Red. Decent longevity, similar to the Blue EDT; on my skin, it lasts a bit longer. I feel it’s undervalued.
Delicious and versatile perfume where fruit rules; pity that the performance leaves something to be desired. On my skin, it lasts about 2 hours projecting and 5 hours close to the skin. It’s a good scent, but it feels like many others; for a cheaper price, you could get the same thing. If you’re looking for something simple without spending a kidney and without demanding longevity, this is your option. My 6/10 being critical.
Deep, embracing aroma, casual to semi-formal. It truly smells like a man; Ralph Lauren stands out with woody, aromatic, and fruity notes, especially a delicious mango 🥭.
I love it: the mango note is there, it’s not spicy, it’s versatile, elegant, and rich. The top notes are high quality, though it doesn’t last long and projects little; it’s very good. Great for dressing up or work, not for the beach, and I can’t imagine wearing it at 30 degrees. I recommend it, but not blindly.
Is there anything more versatile than this? No way!
From the Polo family, this is the one that’s fallen the most out of favor; while Red and Blue have hordes of fans and clones, Black goes unnoticed or is hard to find. It has a fruity top note, though the ‘black’ name doesn’t fit: to me, it’s orange or yellow, tropical, fresh, sweet, and citrusy—perfect for bright, upbeat days. You can definitely smell the mango and tangerine, like a multi-fruit juice or salad dressing, with a spicy edge of ginger (or patchouli, depending on the specs). It’s rich, but it doesn’t leave a mark; compared to the addiction of Red or the foolproof freshness of Blue, I understand its lack of staying power and clones.
