  • Concluding with the Montale trilogy of this journey, although I could write another, I’ll only refer to the trilogy: Montale Full Incense, Montale Patchouli Leaves, and today Montale Aoud Intense. I wouldn’t say why there is so much similarity between the Black Aoud from 2006, for men only, and this Aoud Intense for men and women. Comparing notes, I only differentiate the French labdanum in the 2006 composition. The rest is the same. I’m not saying the concentrations or chemical formulas are identical, just indicating the similarity of notes. If we continue with the analysis of this Intense Aoud formulation, it doesn’t contain labdanum, so it feels somewhat less resinous and musky than the 2006 version. If I focus on the fragrance, I don’t see a major intensity development in the opening, rather a controlled launch of the Aoud note softened in the center with roses, giving a floral halo and sometimes sweet with the patchouli. All notes are supporting, as is customary in this type of fragrance, where Aoud is what predominates. Lacking originality, more of the same, and without its own identity. I bought it expecting the development to be different; perhaps I expected more versatility, but I was left waiting. Very good fragrance with Montale’s characteristic seal, don’t expect a waste of genius, but rather continue triumphing with the winning formula of the 2006 Best Seller. The previously misunderstood difference is that today’s Black Aoud Intense fragrance is a unisex formulation. Greetings.

I must say I prefer the original version, a bit lighter and less potent in its characteristic note. This Intense is still a great job, a spicy-fruity oud that is noticeable for quite some time (4 sprays are enough) and I’ve noticed it with good presence while walking around the city. The scent is in line with several proposals I’ve already tested, surely well-crafted and with good personality. A house that deserves to be explored more attentively, as, unlike others, it takes into account the budget of its potential clients and offers various ways and prices to approach its creations. A round of applause, Montale.

I loved the quality of this perfume, a fixation I rarely experience. The first time I tried it, I sprayed it on my hand and it was so impressive that I washed my hands several times, cleaned my house, even used bleach, and it still smelled. Its main note is oud, but the rose feels almost equal to it. It’s a strong but elegant unisex; apply a little because it’s potent. I loved it for being outside of what one is used to smelling in perfumes. I reiterate that this perfume is an extract; nowadays, most perfumes, even expensive niche ones, don’t last and project poorly. This one is a king of perfumes; for me, it’s a jewel in my collection. All my respect and admiration to Montale.

A perfume monster, one of the best in my collection. The quality and potency stand out; it lasts me more than 12 hours and projects a ton.

One of the best ouds from Montale. And here we go… This time it’s a strong Indian oud tamed by a rose that, gradually, as it moves from the opening to the dry down (3-4 hours), takes over the aroma and gives it a seductive and elegant touch. Long-lasting and addictive. That’s why they call it ‘intense’. Although oud is usually a mature man’s scent, this is the most unisex you can find in this line of perfumery. In the niche world, it’s among the best in this note where the house is a specialist; it’s not challenging or hard to wear (of course, in summer, an Acqua di Giò or a citrus is better) nor is it too expensive.

An elegant perfume with great projection and longevity. You need patience to see how the scent evolves. It’s not for everyone; I was told it smelled like death due to the rose and wood, though others appreciate the patchouli. It’s for occasions where you want to turn heads, and you need character to wear it.

It’s an elegant perfume with great projection and longevity, but you need patience to see how it evolves. It’s not for everyone; some find it overwhelming due to the rose and wood, while others adore the patchouli. Perfect for making a statement, but it takes character to wear.

  • Code: Pandorum

A requiem in rose and oud. Some perfumes shout, others seduce, but a few impose silence. Black Aoud Intense belongs to that last category. From the very first moment, it doesn’t ask for permission; it steals your breath and drops you into an emotionally charged scene where time seems to stand still. If I had to compare it to an image, it would be a funeral day: thick fog, black clothes, withered petals on damp earth. The opening is an aromatic incision. There is no sweetness, no concessions. The oud enters like a scalpel: sharp, medicinal, resinous, with that metallic and slightly animal note that Montale masters so well. But it’s not the dirty oud found in other, more extreme niches. Here, there is clinical cleanliness, as if the pain is contained, ritualized. Immediately after, the rose appears: dark, dry, almost funereal. It’s not a romantic or garden rose, but a rose pressed between pages, with a hint of incense and dignified decay. It has something ancient, something eternal. The heart and base exude a persistent solemnity. As it develops, the perfume becomes more earthy, deeper, with notes of wet patchouli, cedarwood, and a slightly amber base that holds the composition without heating it up. The fragrance doesn’t transform radically, but maintains an intense emotional tension for hours. What strikes you is its ceremonial character. Every inhalation feels like entering a silent chapel, with decomposing flowers and burnt candles. It might seem exaggerated, but this fragrance places you in a specific mood. It’s introspective, heavy, almost liturgical. As for performance, no surprises: beast mode in a black suit. A single spray on clothes can last days. In fact, it’s recommended to apply it moderately if you don’t want to turn the environment into an aromatic mausoleum. Extremely high projection, eternal longevity. It’s a fragrance that demands a state of mind or a specific occasion. Not for daily wear, romantic dates, or the office. It’s for those days where presence, silence, and respect are needed. A perfume that accompanies the shadow. It’s probably one of the most solemn rose-ouds ever created. It doesn’t seek to please or impress; it wants to mark. And it does. With the elegance of a perfectly tailored black suit and the gravity of a wordless prayer. A perfume with symbolic weight. Painful, elegant, hypnotic. Wearing it means accepting that there is also beauty in sadness, that even grief can be perfumed. It’s not just a perfume… it’s a ritual act.
