Descripción

Decadence by Marc Jacobs is an oriental floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by Annie Buzantian and Ann Gottlieb. The top notes unfold with plum, saffron, and iris; the heart reveals lily root, sambac jasmine, and Bulgarian rose; while the base notes complete the structure with vetiver, Egyptian papyrus, and liquidambar.

  • Interesting perfume with good performance and quite unisex. It can get a bit cloying with the plum and amber, but well, it has its counterpoint with other drier notes. I also perceive a floral tone that can make it more feminine for many people, but anyway, for me as I said, totally unisex.

  • It was love at first sight. It’s true, the first time I smelled it, it didn’t fully please me. After smelling it several times, it reminded me of an old hotel room full of dusty carpets, dark curtains, and a green blanket. It’s clearly a decadent, old, and interesting smell. Without a doubt, I recommend it for the night or for a first date with someone unknown. Compared to the basic smells of today, it has a risky and different aroma. UPDATE: I still think the same, that it’s an old and dark fragrance, but it doesn’t go with me anymore. It conveyed depression to me when I wore it. I sold it.

  • I love it! What a discovery. Something weird happened to me: I tested it in a perfumery and it smelled terrible, very bitter or astringent, I didn’t understand how it could have so many fans. Until I went to choose one for my anniversary and I tested it again on skin and it transformed completely; it’s a plummy plum with green nuances, very elegant. I bought a 30ml bottle and another 100ml to have the one with the pompom and never lack it in my vanity. For me it’s ultra-feminine, I can’t imagine a man with this perfume.

At first I noticed the black plum and iris, I thought it would be serious, but I was surprised by that spicy sweetness, nothing of vanilla. Unfortunately, this jewel smelled like medicine to me, but I didn’t hate it like other fragrances that do. The longevity is indeed good, it lasts all day with Decadence, I spent the whole day smelling it. It seems youthful to me, but not so much, I would use it, although I expected something more potent. In the end, it drops towards the less sweet, the serious, and the funereal, because the bottle says it’s not sweet, but to hell with that, it’s very sweet, a very mature sweet. I think I’ll give it another chance or buy a miniature to collect, but don’t buy it blindly.

  • SweetMacarena

I’ve given it several chances and in the end I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know which note causes me fatigue, I don’t understand because I share almost all the notes with other perfumes I have… maybe it’s the Egyptian papyrus, no idea. A pity, because the smell is nice, but something doesn’t go with me.

  • What a special and seductive perfume! Something curious happened to me. I tested Decadence in a store a long time ago, attracted by its bottle, which for some is ordinary and for others everything else. For me, it was a hit: it doesn’t go unnoticed, proper for Marc Jacobs. I tested it and thought ‘what is this?’; I didn’t like it, too strong, excessively woody, and a bit herbal. I didn’t give it another chance and forgot about it. Recently I decided to try it again and WOW, I fell completely in love; it didn’t seem like the same one. Decadence is sweet, woody, slightly spiced, and vanilla-like. For me, it’s a ripe plum with abundant woods (predominant at first), slightly spicy and burning, warm and spiced, wrapped in saffron and a subtle vanilla. It’s very warm, as if it were wrapping me and giving me warmth. It’s very sweet, but not cloying, dark, and very sensual, incredibly seductive. I’d say it’s one of the most sensual in my collection, for someone with character and determined, femme fatale. It’s not common; partly I think it can be hated because it’s not given chances; it’s very special. My boyfriend was fascinated by it, it’s one of his favorites, and I didn’t expect that. It’s a marvel, a jewel that could pass as niche. It’s a pity they discontinued it; I already got a refill to enjoy it for a few more years. Sillage and longevity: I have no complaints, it’s potent and I still feel it the next day. It fascinates me, one of my favorites for sure. Scent: 10/10, Longevity: 9.5/10, Sillage: 9/10.

Update: after spending some time wearing this fragrance, I think I thought no other would surpass me after having Olympea, until I smelled Decadence. This scent is illegal! At first, it didn’t attract me much because the packaging made me believe it was dark, mysterious, and graceless, but I was wrong. It’s sweet, but a very mature, potent sweet that hits hard, imposes itself, grabs attention, and makes heads turn. I’d be surprised if this review came from someone young. Next to my sweet perfumes, Decadence crushes them by a mile; it wins in sillage and longevity, holy cow. It’s rich, not at all soft, not suitable for every nose because you either love it or hate it. It’s nocturnal, sweet but mature, and sometimes scary because of its imposing nature. If you perceive it, it becomes addictive, though it can also give a headache. Regarding the commercial: my favorite: they really captured the aura of Decadence. It reminds me of Medusa and the power to attract and hypnotize; I’d sell a kidney to buy all the versions. God bless us.

  • Could it have been discontinued temporarily?!! I think it was a perfume with many lovers that we adored. It’s my favorite of all time… it can’t disappear 😢

  • A masterpiece, unisex, and different. Woody notes, slightly sweet undertones bound by a saffron aura that enhances its composition: dark, heavy, charming, ideal for cold climates, a black dress, and to captivate. It’s for confident women with personality and sensuality. It has a mysterious and attractive darkness. It doesn’t smell like a difficult scent or disgust; it’s far from the bright, floral female scheme; it breaks stereotypes. Ideal age 30 and up: it doesn’t smell like an older person, but like character and confidence. Formal or semi-formal style.

  • I arrived late to this discovery because it’s already discontinued. I’m surprised: it has a unique identity, something missing in commercial perfumery. Every year many perfumes are born, but few endure. Perfect and Daisy keep their path, while Decadence opts for something darker, jade-like, woody, deep, and complete; it’s more ‘full’ of ingredients and sparkles that create small connections. The helm is steered by plum and iris root, adding elegant sobriety and, why not, very sexy. Don’t go!

I’m from Chile. I saw a sale on Instagram and wanted to try it. I bought a decant on Mercado Libre and… I fell in love! It’s gorgeous, perfectly unisex. It smells like a forest with grass and wet wood, mint, sweet, and boozy. It’s a masterpiece; there’s nothing like it. On par with Fahrenheit but in a feminine version. I’ll definitely buy the bottle since they discontinued it. Note: after hours, only vanilla and iris remain.

  • An out-of-the-ordinary gem! It seems they discontinued it and in Chile I only found a tester, but I’m happy. I already bought Divine Decadence and it was love at first sight, so this one too. They’re similar, but DD is more versatile for daytime, while this is more intense and nocturnal. They’re sweet but escape the trendy candy scents. It smells like sweet amber, woody, slightly powdery, with a masculine touch. On my skin, it lasts 4 to 5 hours with moderate sillage, and I can smell it throughout the entire duration. I loved it!

  • Decadence was a challenge because friends talked badly about it, but the notes won me over. On my skin, the plum stands out at 8 hours, iris and saffron appear and disappear, but the amber is always there. I detect an unknown note, probably papyrus, and vetiver adds elegance and a masculine touch. I define it as fruity amber, sweet, and warm. I’d wear it on a night by the fireplace. It’s seductive but also good for casual occasions in moderation. It’s not for under 30s, not for gourmand seekers, not for very extroverted people wanting to grab attention without being discreet, not for a first date if your partner dislikes strong scents, and not for sweet ladies. It’s for an untamable woman. Also for guys who like 70s vetiver; on their skin, it has nothing feminine. A perfume not for everyone; you have to think about it, but if it’s your style, it will be forever.

  • Lady Spritz

I loved it! At first, I didn’t like it; my nose didn’t accept it quickly. But over time, as it dried on my skin, I became addicted. I see it as unisex. I don’t understand why they discontinued it. It’s for your own enjoyment; if someone isn’t used to it, they might be thrown off until their brain adjusts. The dry down is delicious ❤️

  • I bought it blindly based on good reviews and it was a disappointment. It’s a perfumed with personality and longevity, but too sweet and invasive. That mix of plum and saffron hurts. The bottle is pretty, but I won’t wear it unless I want to scare off a suitor…

  • I don’t know if to love or hate it. I like it, but the plum note gives me a headache. It has amazing projection: I could still smell it on my clothes the next day. That scent lingers and lingers.

  • Cherrylicious

On me, it just smells like Egyptian papyrus—horrible! It’s like they rubbed an old book on me, giving me a sense of antiquity. That said, the longevity is insane; it lasted forever on my complicated skin.

  • carolina martinez

It’s dark; you can definitely smell the plum and rose, super sweet. I recommend it for nighttime. The bottle is gorgeous and very original.

  • SeekerofHugs

I tried it years ago and my nose wasn’t ready, but now at 25 and being more into gourmands, I finally smelled the notes and decided not to risk it. I got a dupe and loved it. After months of searching, I finally found 30ml. The copy is okay, but this is unique. The plum, saffron, and iris give it incredible maturity, jasmine sweetens it, and vetiver adds depth. It’s woody, green, sweet, and warm. Lasted 7 hours on my dry, acidic skin. Marc Jacobs, what crime is this? A true gem!

  • Irene1975

This jewel arrived today and will soon be a collector’s item (rumors of discontinuation), what a pity, it’s a great perfume. Blind buy seduced by the green snakeskin bottle with the black tassel, very original. I love the name. I was curious, it’s pretty even in the emerald green suede box. Spectacular despite not liking the plum much. It’s strong, bohemian, dark, mysterious, earthy, mossy; it reminded me of Mugler Aura which I also own, but Decadence is better balanced and I like it more. Longevity, skin and clothing fixation, and projection are excellent.

  • ambrelover

This is potent. Very sweet plum at the start that sometimes makes your stomach churn; there’s a woody and masculine undertone, which is what I detect. The initial sweetness lowers its potency after a few hours and becomes more bearable. It’s an 80s-style perfume, scandalous and very long-lasting, perfect for winter nights or cold climates, dark and mysterious.

  • marinadelmonaco

I’ve been obsessed since I opened my last bottle a week ago. I actually cried because they stopped making it. If anyone knows something similar, please help!

  • GabbyChang

It’s potent and sweet, very well made. My boyfriend doesn’t like sweet perfumes, especially the plum scent, but he loved this one because it’s elegant and complex.

  • Deli Zambrano M

Delicious, addictive, elegant. Smells like a woman with character who knows what she wants and wants to stand out at night. It’s woody, super sexy; I suggest it for 28 and up.

  • Unfortunately, I can’t get it anymore and I don’t know what to replace it with; I think no fragrance resembles it.

  • I tried it in perfumeries a couple of years ago and found it strange but addictive. I understand the comparisons to cleaning products; it’s not literal, but it lingers. The name fits perfectly; sometimes it smells like an old closed cabinet lined with velvet. I like it. It’s a fussy fruity scent, sweet at first with potent plum, then dries down to become drier, woody, brandy-like, and less sweet. A bit dark but never off-putting. At first, it can be overwhelming, but later the trail stays moderate. Good longevity. Sexy? Yes, it draws attention. Different? It has personality. I feel it’s elegant for night parties, with a fitted dress, miniskirt, and glitter, looking great and well-complemented. The packaging doesn’t matter to me; I prefer simple ones. Projection and trail are excellent. I managed to get 30ml without looking for it, lucky to find it discontinued. I like it more when my partner wears it; on my skin, it loses its magic, gets sweeter, then turns sour. Final verdict: It’s distinctive and I like the plum and the opening, but the dry-down disgusts me, that final sour note I find in many scents. That warm sweetness it promises, but the dry-down makes my stomach churn. I don’t wear it even for walking around the house. I partly identify with @espartaco’s review. I like sour and sweet perfumes like Clinique Elixir or Paula’s Ibiza, but these don’t work for me. I prefer my sweet orientals like Amarige or Poeme, or gourmands like Angel Muse or Coco Vanilla.

  • Perfume_History

It’s a plum scent that explodes in projection. On the skin, it lasts 8/10 hours, though by 5 or 6 hours, people barely notice it. It’s addictive. Unisex: if a woman wears it, it has a sensual masculine touch; if a man wears it, it exudes something ‘sensitive’. A true gem.

  • Finally got my hands on this! I started with it because I found it cheap and it’s hard to come by here in Argentina. Totally worth owning alongside the Divine flanker. WOW! What a perfume. It’s fairly masculine but has a sensuality that won me over. I wouldn’t wear it during the day or in hot weather. It’s unique and undeniable. If you buy it blind, it serves as a good guide: to my nose, it’s like Mugler Aura + Moschino Toy Boy, with that smoky touch of L’Interdit Rouge added. I bought it blind and it was a hit, what a shame they discontinued it. The longevity and projection aren’t the bombshells they claim; it lasted me about 4 hours and the trail isn’t top-tier. It smells expensive, I recommend it and would buy again, but since it’s hard to find, I won’t wear it often. It’s super sweet but not cloying, very well done.

  • Perla Vencis

With Decadence, there’s a shift in contemporary perfumery; it’s an amber-fruited fragrance. I feel the development is linear because from the first spray to the dry-down, I perceive plum. The base notes (vetiver, Egyptian papyrus, and amber) are so well blended that they make this fruit the star, very herbal and aromatic. It’s a night scent that looks great in autumn and winter. 🥂 On my skin, it has enviable longevity, up to 24 hours, and I don’t need more than 4 sprays. 🎆 When it was discontinued, I looked for Michael Bublé since people compare them here, but I don’t think they smell similar; I believe Bublé’s has its own personality.

  • Bibilalique

Plum and papyrus, an easy combination to imagine? I don’t think so, but it’s the easiest way to describe something so complex and beautiful. Everything is a 10 in Decadence: notes, projection, longevity, presentation… Uff! I managed to get two backups, so I now have my powerful 300ml of this gem that doesn’t resemble anything else.

  • Karlydepisis

In my opinion, it’s a mysterious and rich fragrance with elegant sweetness and a unique aroma. I perceive a sweet tamarind, and certainly, a super-rich amber.

  • I like it. For those who are drawn to woody fragrances. It reminds me a lot of the blue Fendi Fantasy bottle. Pink and wood dominate, with a faint iris that stands out on my skin. It’s for special occasions; I don’t see it as a daily wear, though that’s relative; I feel a bit out of place wearing it at work.

  • AresGoodess

I have a 50ml bottle that a boss gifted me for Christmas back in 2016/17, and I still have almost all of it. It has taken on a color over the years and lost some punch; before, it was a beast in terms of longevity and trail, and I got so many compliments at parties with my friends (though I rarely wore it). I’ll have to use it up before it turns sour; it would be a shame to throw away something I loved and still love. I don’t know why I didn’t use it more; I just haven’t found the right occasion these past years. I sprayed some on my hand four hours ago and I still sense a very subtle, intimate, and lovely vanilla-woody scent. Maybe I can wear it now that the days are getting cooler.

  • Rachel_OV

I’ve realized that almost every perfume that hooks me has iris; it must be addictive. This one has earthy, damp notes that add depth and mystery. On my skin, the dry-down is almost identical to Elderflower & Gooseberry, perhaps due to the gooseberry; I struggle to tell them apart. Maybe the Elderflower has a fruitier touch, while this one is more herbal. Either way, they are both earthy perfumes, like a divinely spiced wine with a dense, deep body. I don’t detect any floral nuance. The presentation is exquisite, perfect for autumn.

  • Kharynbranchet

Why do people compare Decadence to Mugler’s Aura? Is your Decadence an imitation, or vice versa? 🤔

  • I have a sample of this discontinued gem, an amber liquid that looks elegant and bohemian. It smells intoxicating, sweet without being cloying, vintage, and woody, almost mysterious. At first, it smells a bit like cough syrup, then it fades to reveal the plum and saffron, giving it an oriental vibe. The iris wraps around with elegant, powdery florals. In the dry-down, the vetiver’s green, woody, and mossy tones blend with the warm amber. I only wear it in autumn, winter, and at night. Excellent longevity, projection, and sillage. The iconic bottle evokes nocturnal decadence, a bohemian atmosphere, and old-world luxury.

  • No sería la primera vez

Elegant, dark, sexy, and mysterious, yet not overly intense. Ideal for a woman over 35 attending a semi-formal event, like a birthday party.

  • If there’s one thing I love about perfumes, it’s being surprised by them. I’d been searching for my signature scent for a while, and while I like several, this is the one for now. I bought a set of three Decadence minis: Divine, Eau So Decadent, and this little gem. The moment I smelled it, I knew it was my favorite; the notes just melt me. It’s cozy, featuring exquisite plum and iris—one of my favorite notes—which, along with the base notes of Egyptian papyrus and storax (which I didn’t know existed), really shine during the dry-down on my skin. I’d never smelled those notes anywhere else, which is why they stand out so much. I recommend it to plum and iris lovers for its projection. It’s dark, reminiscent of Dior’s Poison but without the overwhelming power; it feels like a plum powder syrup accented by those unusual notes. I fell in love and recommend it to anyone who enjoys these scents.
