I can’t wait to try this citrus and coffee clash; the composition sounds very attractive. If anyone has already tried it, share your thoughts.
The only perfume that made me gag, I’ve smelled hundreds… Horrible, I didn’t like it at all, the worst I’ve ever tried.
It’s the only one that made me vomit. I’ve tried hundreds and this is the worst, literally horrible.
I stopped by a perfumerie to try it, and it smells incredible. As a personal note, I prefer this version over any other Black Opium; this one feels more like me.
I went to try it at a perfume shop and it smells amazing. As a personal note, I like this version more than any other Black Opium; this one feels more like me.
I loved it… and my skin adored it…
We all know Black Opium EDP, but this one has that essence with a softer, floral, and citrus opening. You can smell the bergamot and pear with a floral undertone. The dry down is incredible—it’s like you’re carrying a cup of coffee through a flower-filled plaza. That makes it unique compared to normal florals. On my skin, it was a total hit. I just put some on and can’t stop smelling it. It’s addictive. What a shame they stopped producing it; it’s my favorite of all the versions.

Someone thought this Black Opium perfume was similar to Armani’s ‘Acqua di Gioia’. I believe there was a serious mistake. No scents are more opposite.
I loved this sweet scent; you can tell the coffee, and the citrus touch gives it an unusual vibe… it’s not cloying, but what I didn’t like is that it didn’t last more than six hours on my skin… for its high-end price… I’m really eager to try Black Opium.
I detect a peach note. Sweet, classy, fruity, perfect for cold weather.
I loved the scent, but no one smells it when I wear it, not even me. It’s a pity, since it’s a delicate and feminine aroma.
Not bad, but it’s not the citrus and white flower cocktail it promised. Among the Black Opiums, it’s the one I like the least. There’s too much pear and an ingredient I don’t like, I think it’s amberwood. I’ll use it up, but I won’t buy it again. Projection and longevity are moderate. By the way, what on earth are solar notes?
A strong, common scent: citrus pear and a coffee shock, like a tiramisu with pears and citrus liqueur. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a gem because rarely does anyone smell like this. It’s too feminine for me, but if I were a man, I’d wear it. The only catch is that it lasts only two hours.
The more time passes, the more I like it. I bought it blind and initially thought I’d made a mistake, but after months of use, I’m totally in love. It’s super feminine, sweet, citrusy, with coffee and flowers. It lasts quite a bit and projects without being overwhelming. What a shame they discontinued it.
The moment I tried it, it was love at first sight. Its cheerful floral and fruity opening stands out for that dark side the coffee adds. It’s enigmatic and plays with the senses because the contrast of the clear florals harmonizes with its darkness; they don’t fight, they blend and evolve together. It has great longevity on the skin. The only drawback: after about three hours, it loses its identity; it still lasts, but the day/night contrast fades into just a pleasant blend that lacks originality. Compared to pure Black Opium, Floral Shock is fresher, more vital, and more carefree. Be careful, it has a dark side that, while less obvious, adds an intriguing and enigmatic touch as it tries to hide among the flowers without succeeding; the senses identify it instantly but in a more subtle way. I love it when perfumes play with my senses. Definitely my next purchase.
Love at first sight. The cheerful floral and fruity opening stands out for its dark coffee side. It’s enigmatic and plays with the senses: the clarity of the flowers merges with its darkness without fighting, evolving together. It has great longevity on the skin. The only downside: after about three hours, it loses its identity; it still smells good, but that day-night contrast fades, turning into a generic blend. Compared to pure Black Opium, Floral Shock is fresher, more vital, cheerful, and carefree, yet with an intriguing dark side that camouflages among the flowers. I love it when perfumes play with my senses. It’ll be my next purchase.
The little cousin of Black Opium outshines the original. It’s sweet and dark due to the coffee, but with that floral and fruity touch that blends perfectly with the darkness. It’s sexy and suitable for daily wear, though it also works for night. Fantastic.
Ripe, sweet pear takes center stage, accompanied by a potent gardenia. Coffee appears very subtle, almost imaginary. The citrus opening with bergamot and lemon isn’t loud thanks to the fruit’s sweetness. It’s versatile, fruity-floral, perfect all year round, more formal and daytime than the original Black Opium, which is more nocturnal and sensual. On my skin, Floral Shock lasts 8-10 hours with moderate sillage, while the reformulated original barely lasts a whisper. Too bad they discontinued it.
The dominant dry-down note is pear—not green, but sweet and ripe, accompanied by a notable gardenia. Gradually, the coffee emerges, though I perceive it very subtly; you almost have to imagine it. The opening is citrusy with bergamot and lemon, but the sweet pear note prevents it from being too sharp. It’s very versatile, fruity-floral, suitable for winter or summer. I see it as more formal and daytime compared to the original, which is more nocturnal and sensual. I like both. Added note: on my skin, Floral Shock lasts much longer, about 8-10 hours with moderate sillage. The reformulated original lasts a breath. What a shame they stopped making Floral Shock.
The best of the Black Opium line. I use the classic, tried Blanche, and sampled Intense. This one is the best for me: sweet but subtle, feminine without being cloying… and somewhat hard to find: it improves with time. I absolutely love Floral Shock 😍
The best of the Black Opiums. I use and use the classic I had Blanche and tried Intense. This is the best for me: sweet but subtle feminine but not cloying… and something hard to find: it improves the fragrance as hours pass. I love Floral Shock 😍.
OMG! You have no idea how much I adore it… if you find it you’re lucky because they don’t sell it anymore. I tried it again today after buying Dolce Peony. But after trying Black Opium for months and comparing it with Floral Shock well no they don’t resemble each other at all. The first one is sweeter with a cookie scent sweet oriental and winter; while Floral Shock has a very soft peach scent with a sweet trail nothing nocturnal spring or winter obviously warm very soft. Better than Olympia because if they resemble a little well that in other words: if you want a powerful perfume buy the classic Black Opium. And if you want something sweeter for the mornings with a light trail then Floral Shock is good. By the way… the name Shock means shock and I don’t feel that it has one compared to Black Opium…
I have this perfume in my collection and I have no idea how it got there. I think my mom once gave it to me and maybe she kept it in my collection because I never bought it. I had the original Black Opium and that scent was the one I had in mind every time I saw it on my shelf but I don’t know why I looked up reviews for Floral Shock and thought: how do I have a perfume with all these notes if in my mind it smells like something else? And well I went to try it and I was SHOCKED as its name says. Exquisite!!! I think I’ve never in my life tried it… I don’t understand anything hahaha I’ll take care of it like a palo santo because according to what I read it’s discontinued and I probably have 30 ml left… Thanks to whoever left it on my shelf…
I miss it!! Now that summer is approaching this fragrance is perfect for it. Nothing to do with the dark nights of its sister the sweet Black Opium; this one is for the day when the temperature rises and you still want to use coffee notes which are more for cold times. From ‘Shock’ I felt nothing; in fact I expected a stronger trail than the classic but no… A sweet apricot scent without losing elegance. It happens to me that I have Olympia and sometimes this scent smells almost very similar to Floral Shock but they’re not clones or dupes although both are meant to be used by the beach near the sand. I heard they discontinued it what a shame.
My son it smells spectacular. One of the best YSL scents… very different from Black Opium with light peach notes oh my god. It has a resemblance to Poison but when you take your nose away the scent changes and becomes sweet like a sweet shampoo trying to resemble Black Opium but floral. Shock is slightly more mature. Yes it smells like coffee with milk and it’s not cloying. As for the trail no need to say it one spray and the whole room fills up. Few perfumes I’ve matched with. Totally winter and spring. It smells like coffee with milk and caramel. I don’t quite understand the campaign but I want everyone to know the scent has two sides… and yes it surprises. I hope it returns to my collection soon. I sold my soul for this baeeee 😍🖤🖤🖤. Update: I have another one I bought recently Live Irresistible and I was surprised by the slight resemblance they have…
Finally in my hands 😌💛🥺. And let’s not talk about how it mixes with other perfumes ♡. I hope it returns this year. Thanks YSL for creating this work of art. Now I can finally enjoy the scent 💛.
I have it and I’ve loved it for that sweet touch. I wear it day and night it’s long-lasting and I feel great when I put it on.
Great perfume sweet smelling of cold coffee vanilla and pears. On me it has a spectacular trail. Nothing to do with Black Opium. This one is worth it. Suitable for any weather. It’s truly beautiful.
My favorite for winter although I prefer citrus and fresh scents. It’s like a liqueur with a cappuccino wrapped in flowers super creamy and I love it. Sexy and luxurious. At the end when only the base remains the coffee subtly emerges. It lasts for many hours an achievement since my skin doesn’t retain anything. It’s like a hug that accompanies me on cold days.
The most floral and luminous of the Black Opium line without betraying its coffee and vanilla soul. It adds a touch of pear from start to finish. I’m completely hooked; it’s delicious and even better than the original. Very feminine I see it as more versatile and spring-like (though not summer despite the solar notes). On my skin it lasts about 4 hours; at first it projects and leaves a trail but by the hour it becomes very soft (pity that all Black Opiums fade quickly on my skin). What a shame it’s so hard to find; by scent it’s one of the best in the family.
