This fragrance starts with sweet and powdery orange/mandarin aromas; once these fade, it continues with the iris that lasts for several hours. Recently, I tried Dior Homme and didn’t buy it because they seemed very similar in that dominant note.
It’s more complex than it seems (I guess that’s why it’s named that). It starts with a wonderful opening of powdery mandarin, which I wish would last the entire life of the scent (out of all I own, this is the one I enjoy the opening of the most). After 15 minutes, it turns powdery with the iris, but it’s a semi-sweet iris, not spiced up (like I feel happens with Dior Homme), making it incredibly pleasant to any nose, whether they detect notes or not. The perfume stays this way, a back-and-forth of powdery iris with intermittent vanilla and sandalwood in the background. I’ve read it’s been discontinued for a while, but occasionally I find bottles still floating around. Its longevity and trail are moderate, but anyone who gets close can smell it effortlessly. On me, I think it causes olfactory fatigue (I don’t feel it all day, but it comes back at times, though the rest of the time I do feel it). Greetings from Chile!
Another gem that’s gone. It was sublime and magnificent.
A mysterious evolution… I found it and wanted it immediately, though I always had doubts. You spray it and walk out saying, ‘Wow, I’ve smelled this before.’ It reminds me a lot of fragrances from its era, like Very Valentino or Versace Man. They don’t smell identical, but they share that early 2000s aura. If you like those, you’ll definitely like Arpege Pour Homme. It’s a fragrance I call harmless: it doesn’t overwhelm, it’s not a bomb, it’s not soft, it smells good, and it does its job for about 6 hours, but it doesn’t stand out for anything. Here, the iris isn’t as prominent as you’d expect; in fact, it has nothing to do with Dior Homme (thank God, because I never liked the Dior one due to the iris). The citrus notes aren’t clean or acidic; they’re spicy and slightly sweet, and the longevity is very fleeting. The fragrance goes through two stages: first, the explosive opening that can be a bit overwhelming due to the nutmeg, pepper, citrus touch, and a very noticeable tonka base. Then, when everything relaxes, you get a vanilla-scented iris with tonka and an inoffensive wood. That’s how it smells until it fades. As I said, it’s very 2000s, and I don’t understand why almost all of those are gone. It’s perfect for a workday or school day, but little else. The trail is moderate to moderate-soft. Would I recommend it blindly? Yes, as long as you like the fragrances I mentioned and vanilla scents, because even if the opening isn’t, most of its life is.
Very beautiful. Basically, it’s a Dior Homme with more citrus, minus that iris concentration that gives the Dior version its distinctive touch.
What a beast of a perfume I snagged in Lisbon for 20 euro-bangers, what a steal. It’s sweet, vanilla-scented, and powdery, super pleasant, potent, and perfect for night. Nowadays, people ask for things like this and it’s ridiculous, but I’d love to have it back… 250 euros? Not a chance. The bottle is classy but gorgeous.
