Alright… Angel. I’ve been wearing A*Men for 15 years, so I have some thoughts. Mugler’s Angel, I’d define as a total gourmand with a fairly complex structure: top, heart, and base. Some people define perfume with multiple olfactory notes, and as you learn more—like with wine or coffee—you can distinguish more. Honestly, not everyone is prepared to identify that many notes. In my opinion, the perfume is both simple and complex. The notes I detect with my experience are: Top, a mix of fruits with a ton of honey. Heart, caramelized flowers with coconut. Base, an amber vanilla accompanied by chocolatey patchouli and a persistent but subtle caramel. There’s something that makes it feel warm and spicy; I’m not sure if it’s tonka bean or musk, but it definitely feels that way. Mugler, for me, is a perfume that gives security and elegance; it’s timeless. It’s not like those fragrances launched years ago that feel old; Mugler has managed to redefine what an eternal, ethereal fragrance is. Unfortunately, there was a reformulation: I had bottles with “THIERRY MUGLER” and now the ones that just say MUGLER. The good news is it still respects its original aroma, but it no longer has the same sillage or longevity… It’s a shame. If you want to stand out and be different, choose Angel, just make sure to test it first, let it settle, and enjoy every stage of it.
Right now, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I tried it at Fraiche and, yes, I liked it a bit, though it smelled heavily of patchouli and damp earthy mold. I wanted to enjoy the vanilla, caramel, and cotton notes, so I bought the original, but now it smells like everything except what I imagined. I thought it would be like Jungle Elephant, but it’s nothing like that. I feel a bit sad; I wish I’d made a different decision. Maybe I’ll feel better tomorrow, but for now, I didn’t like it at all. It’s so strange: in the dry down, it feels rich like caramel, vanilla, and patchouli, but right out of the bottle, it’s unbearable and lasts only 20 minutes. Then it seems to disappear. I don’t know what’s true; this isn’t what I expected, but I’ll give it another shot; I’ll update my review if it changes.
I had high expectations; I’ve always wanted it, but it let me down. It’s very invasive; what hits you hardest is a cloying honey that you can even taste in your mouth, saturating you instantly. It has great longevity and good sillage, but it’s just too much for me.
I had high expectations and was quite let down. It’s a super dirty, earthy perfume with tons of patchouli. For me, it’s a hard no. That said, if you like its scent, the sillage and longevity are excellent.
I hate it. I got a tester at Duni and, oh boy. It’s a very strong, invasive fragrance. It does last, but it’s not for me. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially not at this price point, given how disappointing it is.
It’s the worst-smelling perfume I’ve ever encountered. It smells like everything unpleasant to me… Terrible.
It just smells invasively of patchouli and gives me a headache. I noticed a faint hint of honey, but I don’t like it. It feels masculine, yet no man would find it attractive, and it lacks any feminine or truly universal unisex appeal. It’s one-note, just smells like patchouli, and I don’t like that note. Not worth the price.
How impatient people can be! Most say the same thing: it smells awful and they’re disappointed, so they stopped trying it. I bet most of them washed it off with soap and water. To truly appreciate a perfume and know if you like it, you need patience.
Absolutely terrible. The formulation is awful, like mixing colorful playdough and ending up with a gray ball; literally, it only smells of patchouli. Unfortunately, it has the most powerful projection and sillage I’ve ever seen—you can’t wait it out because the scent never evolves.
OK, I rushed to write this review, but some time has passed and it smells very good; honestly, I think I can use it, I just have to adapt it to my nose. I can’t delete my previous comment, but if those were my first impressions, now I’m more at ease and actually, I do like it. Oh, how good, because it wasn’t cheap. It’s been almost a month, and Mancero too, I don’t know what Carambas it smells like, but they say everything resembles its owner, and since I’m unbearable, I guess the perfume had to be too, but well, haha. Honestly, yes, I’m going to finish it, because I’m going to finish it no matter how, but it smells sweeter to me now. I quote: it’s a win.
No perfume has ever kept me so confused… at first, it’s a dislike, but then, as hours pass, it feels sweeter, softer, and friendlier. You need courage to wear it. I can’t say I don’t like it; there’s something that keeps me wanting it.
I gave it many chances, but it just doesn’t work for me. It smells overwhelmingly of olive with a sour edge; I can’t detect any of the promised notes.
It’s going to give me a heart attack, no matter how much I want it; my opinion on this perfume keeps changing. Right now, all I smell is patchouli and vanilla. I like it more, yes, I definitely tolerate it now, I can bear it, it makes me a little happier, but it’s still complicated. Oh, I don’t know how much longer it will take for him and me to become good friends, haha.
You either love it or hate it. I’ve noticed many people voted ‘don’t like it’. I think being indifferent doesn’t leave room for much. On paper, I’m one of those who doesn’t like it; it smells like a sharp spice from an Indian dish that you know will upset your stomach (and I like Indian food quite a bit, but there are things that notably disgust me). Like an Indian spice sauce. Maybe a chutney. That would make sense with all those supposed fruit notes. But I don’t smell it sweet or fruity; only a spicy note stands out that I dislike. This perfume has many notes, and I think it depends on your skin, your pH, and the specific day; certain notes can stand out and vary the experience quite a bit. I’ll try it again.
On paper, I didn’t like it, and well, it must be likable in some way to catch my attention. I also tried Nova, and despite being more bearable, I still feel it’s common.
Yes, I like it, but it reminds me of an auntie who wears it. Also, I sprayed it on my arm yesterday, took a shower, and it’s been a whole day, yet it’s still there. Personally, I get a very sweet patchouli vibe; it’s rich, but I wouldn’t wear it.
I didn’t like it :(. It smells like a lady, but not a nice, elegant one.
My story with this perfume: A friend used to wear it years ago; when she applied it in front of me, I asked to smell it directly from the bottle, but my nose rejected it immediately, smelling like bad armpit sweat 😅. It was a timeless perfume back then (I was wearing florals like Amarige or Tréssor…). Years passed, and I recently received a sample of Angel as a gift. When I smelled it with skepticism, magic happened 💫; it seemed interesting, perhaps my nose has matured to understand it. I decided to take the risk and buy the large 100ml presentation. Every time I wear it, something typical of Mugler happens: I feel they are from another world, special, rare, eccentric, mysterious, and unique, just like with Alien and Aura. I definitely love their bottles! 😍 Note: They say Angel was the first gourmand perfume; I don’t feel it that way, but it’s a great creation by Olivier Cresp with beastly longevity. In short: I hated it and now I love it! ❤️
I find it incredible that I’m saying this, but I absolutely loved it 🤣🤣. I hated it at first, but time has passed and my nose is more trained; I’m getting more ‘Muglerized’ by the day. Even though it’s very well-known, it’s a totally outrageous and fun scent. At first, it smells ultra minty and patchouly. As it dries down, what I smell most is honey, cotton candy, and a touch of anise. You have to dose it carefully to avoid a headache, but it’s a joy to appreciate this beautiful and groundbreaking creation.
I don’t know what’s going on with this perfume, it’s one I love and adore, I’ve been using it for 2 years since I fell in love with it, but lately the new batches I’m trying smell disgusting. It didn’t smell this bad before, I don’t feel the sweet notes anymore, the chocolate, the fruits, just a very dense and dirty patchouli, and a bitter honey that makes it smell old, like it’s been years. My mom tried it and even she said it smelled horrible. Angel always gives me compliments, I have a bottle from the 2022 batch and even that one smells incredible until that year, but the new batches I tried smell way too bad, no one gives me compliments, like they went overboard with the patchouli. I don’t know if it’s bad luck, but it’s sad because it was my favorite. I got excited buying a large 100ml bottle from 2024, at first I didn’t notice, but after smelling it several times I liked it less. It’s sad to know they ruined one of the world’s prettiest perfumes. I compared it with a 10ml travelsize from the 2023 batch and it smells just as bad. I think they changed it starting in 2023, because it doesn’t feel like the same perfume anymore, it seems like a bad imitation. It really hurts me because Angel was never a bad perfume, just that some liked it more, but these new batches smell very bad.
It took me several months, but now I can confirm this is a delicious, rich perfume. You can already detect the cotton, coconut, vanilla, jasmine, and patchouli notes, even the peach, and it turned out great. Just to clarify, this is months after the first spray; I’m not sure if my nose needed time to adjust or if I’ve simply gotten used to it, but now I definitely like it a lot.
Juasier216, I think we have the same batch and I share your feeling, it smells like pure patchouli to me. I bought it in a fragrance group and apart from testers, I went to an official store and it’s the same: green, pasty. I thought it was already rancid but no, my skin with the new formula didn’t click. But in dry down it does smell like rich chocolate with coconut. I don’t know what’s going on, what a pity, try it on skin before buying the new formulas.
Angel stopped being Angel with the packaging change back in 2008, where it said Thierry Mugler and changed to MUGLER, and we lost this powerhouse forever. The reformulation was so bad that even L’Oreal couldn’t make it worse. We could gather brands to have Mercadona relaunch Codizia.
I tested it at Ulta Beauty, gave it a sniff on my wrist, and the opening was horrible, I didn’t even want to keep smelling it. It’s too strange, it smells like sweat or rancid liquids. I understand that the concept of Angel is supernatural and otherworldly, but I don’t think an Angel should smell like that. 🤨
I’d been wanting to try it for months because of the notes, dreaming of that cloying sweetness of cotton candy and the fruity notes, but I was very disappointed when I tested it on skin. I couldn’t distinguish any note, just a strong detergent smell. The Nova version is closer to what I thought it would smell like, luckily I didn’t buy it blindly u.u
It’s a complicated perfume. I find it bizarre and tender at the same time. It’s potent but friendly. It transports me to childhood, I smell it and my brain says it’s Christmas and they’re bringing me gifts, haha, I’m sure I’d use it then, like an aunt. At first it didn’t convince me, it seemed too strong, like chemical melon, but an hour later on my wrist I like it too much. I smell the cotton candy and mentholated, earthy patchouli that makes me think of a rainy day, but it’s so creamy it gives a warm cuddle sensation. It has a very strange, sparkling magic that attracts me, it’s cheerful, original, and strong-willed. The notes I feel the most are honey, cotton candy (or burnt sugar), amber, and patchouli. I wouldn’t use it in the heat, haha, but I imagine it for gray winter days to lift my spirits. Edit: I love it, haha, how good it smells when it’s fresh. How great that it has the name, I feel it like an angel accompanying and caring for you, a kind presence but with power and that otherworldly air.
I tested it at a perfumery, read the notes on Fragrantica, and it almost gave me a heart attack. I think I live in an alternate reality because cotton candy, honey, chocolate, and coconut… I imagine they’re perceived via Bluetooth, because what a surprise. I knew nothing about the perfume, just the star-shaped bottle, and it piqued my curiosity at the tester. I gave it a swipe on the strips (thank goodness, because I’d have suffered if I sprayed it on myself). The first impression was unpleasant and discouraging. At first, it was a strong smell of herbs, a nasty patchouli fused with a pine cleaner. I don’t know if there are pleasant cleaners, but not even that. The smell was horrific, like those 1L bottles of herbal or lemon water ladies put on before going to church. Minutes passed and the heart still stinks, it evolved into mentholated, like the worst mint I’ve ever smelled. In summary, this is not a sweet gourmand perfume (even though the notes say otherwise). With great kindness, it has an unbearable patchouly smell with herbs and menthol. I hope it never becomes my weakness, because I wouldn’t recognize myself.
Got it in 2025, tested the 25ml to see if it would work… and zass, chocolate with praline, cocoa, coconut, and something magical. So potent, my goodness, it doesn’t fade and the Angel takes over. What a powerhouse, what a buzz. It’s not for everyone, it’s original and out of this world. If you can’t handle the strength, don’t buy it, but give it a try because it doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for me (in winter or cold weather).
Angel, my beloved Angel, you are as beautiful as you are hated. The opening is greenish, it becomes powdery, and in the end, with that patchouli and Mugler signature. On my skin, it’s something powdery, not sweet but herbal with lots of bitter chocolate. Don’t expect compliments because it’s not for everyone; they told me it smells like old lady powder (which is nothing like it). In longevity, the Thierry version is a beast in every sense. It makes you feel mysterious and desired, because not everyone smells like this (at least in Mexico). I recommend it for cool days and nights, or during the day with a little bit of sun.
My personal signature perfume from 1999 to 2016. Since it left the Clarins group, it’s been sinking… A year ago, I refilled my bottle and noticed the chocolate note was gone and almost no honey; the milky notes in the middle have lost half their impact, and that sensual essence that lasted 10 hours is no longer there. In the new formulation, is there some coconut? Still, the raspberry is noticeable with lots of vanilla, and the patchouli feels like nail polish. Approximate longevity is 3 hours, maybe 6 or 7 on clothes. Nothing like the old Thierry Mugler. I found a clone that lasts 8 hours, and the old formula, without coconut, was very similar to the wonderful body oil and hair mist. RIP Angel 2025!
Don’t be scared by the opening, it smells like insecticide. But over time on the skin, it undergoes an amazing transformation. It’s exquisite, never the same, something that never happened to me with another perfume. It’s a home run, a one-of-a-kind perfume.
I tried it in the perfumery, and I literally smelled goat on it. I washed my arm twice, and it wouldn’t go away. I have the Angel Elixir, which is beautiful, but I wish it had the same longevity as the classic.
OMG! My mom recently gifted me Angel. For a few months now, I’ve loved strong, characterful, slightly «distinguished» perfumes. I’ve read many reviews saying it smells like patchouli bombs, like a man, like cat pee, or like a funeral, but they just don’t know how to wear it. At first, it smells super strong, like a men’s perfume, mentholated, and mega green; but as it dries down, that iconic sweetness comes out. It has a trick: if you don’t moisturize your skin, it smells disgusting, but if you do, it smells sweet and delicious. On me, it smells like burnt caramel, super dark chocolate, strong vanilla, sweet patchouli, and jasmine. Obviously, it doesn’t smell the same to everyone. It lasts 10-13 hours on me and highlights the patchouli, while on my mom, it smells sweeter and doesn’t last as long. It’s a very rich perfume; you just need to know how to wear it. If you want compliments from ladies and to smell rich with character, use it!!!
Angel… what an extra-sensory work of art; I’ve been a total fan since 2019. I’m reviewing it again because it’s a new year, and this scent, beyond being my personal signature, enhances my festive seasons. As I write, I smell the bottle: years pass, and I keep refilling bottles; I can’t let go, it’s my iconic scent. It’s a dimensional portal; I feel the 90s or 2050, with no middle ground. I understand this sense of time and space comes from my chronic anxiety and the sheer number of notes; it’s unique. I understand the negative reviews—it’s perfect. Since 1992, it was created for complex, atypical, and rare noses. I’m grateful not everyone likes it; it was never for low-key personalities; it lets others know the elevated vibe you have thanks to the resinous and sweet notes. My circle knows I’m wearing it, and they always come close to my neck; it must be that my vibe creates chemistry with these notes. Recommendations: wear it at night after 6 PM, not during the day. In summer, use it moderately unless it’s the EDT. For people over 30. In winter, it goes with everything; at night, it’s magic, like having wine with chocolate and friends. High personality, guaranteed character, and no fear of success; literally, it’s an Angel accompanying you.
I’ve had it for over a year and used it rarely, but it’s not that I don’t like it; I just can’t find the special occasion to wear it properly. It’s one of those fragrances that grabs attention in a strange way. I think a Hollywood star would wear it at a fruit-aero-space themed Met Gala, and it would be perfect. I don’t feel it’s for the office, daily wear, or dinner. It’s a gem you need to have because the perfect day might come. Not everyone travels to space every day, only a few, and sometimes in life. ☾✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧⁺₊ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Honestly, it’s one of the most unpleasant perfumes I’ve ever tried. I was curious about its notes, but on my skin, which highlights the patchouli, it just smells horrible. The opening is unbearable; I had to wash my hands several times. Later, it wasn’t that sharp scent (which many describe as cat pee), but something mentholated, earthy, and more digestible. On my skin, I didn’t sense any sweet accord or the rest, just a strong, unpleasant patchouli. I don’t doubt it works for others, but it’s not for me.
I don’t know what kind of noses those 12,000 people have who love it, honestly. It smells like urine from someone you pass on the corner who pees every day for years, almost 🤮. Where’s the gourmand note???? It should be called Angel Earthy Dirty Patchouli 🤮🤮🤮.
When I started in perfumery with a beginner’s nose, I HATED this perfume because my favorites were sweet scents. Now, with more experience, I say Mugler’s Angel is a gem. If you give it a chance, you’ll discover the opening is potent, almost mentholated, and pushes you away, but it softens gradually. Notes of fruit, honey, cotton candy, dark chocolate, and a dirty but sexy patchouli emerge. It’s not for everyone—it’s UNIQUE, different, sexy, imposing, almost carnal, a misunderstood work of art.
Just received this masterpiece and the excitement is immense. It’s different from everything else, original and rebellious. Tremendously disruptive despite being 35 years old. I can’t talk about longevity yet because I sprayed it an hour ago, but I’m crazy about its projection and sillage. It’s worthy of someone with a strong personality who demands a trained nose. Distinct from any commercial scent, suitable for men or women, day or night, except in extreme heat. This Mugler is perfect for me. I bought it blind because I had the Cuba Paris New York (a muuuuuch better dupe) on promo. I didn’t make a mistake. ☺️
I’m a man and I’ve been smelling this since I was a kid; it used to overwhelm me, but after 30, it’s one of the sexiest things out there. Potent, striking, and mysterious, it smells like licorice caramel with a lot of synthetic patchouli. No princess vibes here—it’s for a mature, confident woman with Femme Fatale energy.
