Gentlemen Only by Givenchy is a woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2013, this composition was created by perfumer Jean Jacques. Its olfactive structure unfolds with pink pepper, green mandarin, birch leaves, nutmeg, and bergamot in the top notes; the heart reveals vetiver, cedar, patchouli, violet leaves, and elemi; while the base settles on incense and musk.

I don’t know what’s going on with this fragrance, probably the citrus and pepper opening. My nose rejects it to the point where I can’t stand it. I don’t know why, but it reminds me of Dior Sauvage, which happened to me exactly the same way.
It has a style similar to Hugo Boss Hugo… it’s pleasant and matches what other users told me, that it’s perfect for work.
Changing my previous opinion, I find Givenchy Gentlemen Only to be very pleasant and elegant, exactly what I’m looking for. It smells clean, striking, and sparkling, especially due to the mandarin and pink pepper. It lasts quite a while on the skin, about 3 hours. Although not identical, it reminds me of the opening of Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme. At the end, it fades into a base of vetiver, cedar, and patchouli that strongly recalls the classic Azzaro Pour Homme. I think the advertising is honest: it’s a mature, sober, and clean perfume. It delivers what it promises at a good price. Scent: 9/10, Longevity: 9/10, Projection: 9/10, Versatility: 6/10, Price: 9.5/10.
It’s a good fragrance. At first, the mandarin stands out, then in the dry-down, spices emerge, ending with a persistent incense that, honestly, is the phase I like least and becomes a bit annoying, though not unpleasant.
I tried it; it’s an acceptable fragrance, but there are better options out there.
In Gentlemen Only, mandarin dominates from start to finish. Then a green note comes out, along with cedar and an incense reminiscent of Bleu de Chanel. There’s a common thread with Givenchy Play. Curiously, the Givenchy website doesn’t mention the controversial skin note or other key ingredients. In the end, birch, cedar, and an amber touch join the mandarin. Some say it’s a Bleu with mandarin instead of bergamot, and that makes sense since it lacks that bergamot’s sharpness. Ideal for spring or summer afternoons when it’s not too hot. For work, it’s more formal than casual, but works well with the right outfit. It’s fairly linear but pleasant. Longevity is low-moderate, about 4 hours. I give it 3/5.
I love it because it starts fresh and gradually blends patchouli, violet, incense, and musk. The change is slow, about two hours, but the evolution until the end is beautiful. I enjoy it a lot, even if it doesn’t last long; after 4 or 5 hours, I can’t smell it anymore. But the time it does last is very pleasant. It’s my favorite from the Givenchy Gentleman line, along with Xeryus Rouge.
Those of us who know perfumes know there’s a lot of mediocrity and cheap marketing these days. But there are exceptions, and this is one. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not the ‘eighth wonder,’ but it has personality, and that counts. It’s more oriental-woody, with light smoky notes and patchouli. It smells earthy and masculine, reminding me of niche orientals like Ambre Fetiche but softer. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s interesting. If you like orientals that don’t overwhelm, it’s for you. Moderate longevity and the trail reaches far. Ideal for autumn, winter, and evening.
At first, it smells like mandarin and is super fresh, but as it dries down, you notice the pepper and a woody touch. It’s a classic gentleman’s scent—harmless and pleasant, perfect for the office. The longevity is a bit short, more like an Eau fraîche, but the smell itself is worth it. Scent: 8.1, Originality: 8, Versatility: 9.5. Works in any weather and suits people over 30. Decent price and quality.
In my opinion, this fragrance deserves more attention than it gets. While it has a synthetic touch, it’s clearly not the same as typical department store perfumes. It’s slightly spicy and smoky, but the mandarin adds a fresh twist. It doesn’t project much; it’s very personal, ideal for everyday office wear or hanging out with friends. I wasn’t convinced at first, but over time it’s become one of my favorites.
Exquisite. I love that woody touch with incense that isn’t overwhelming. It’s ultra-versatile, works for any time of year and any time of day. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
Excellent aroma, refined, spicy, fresh, and woody. It has an 80s-90s vintage style without being outdated. I see it for those over 25 and formal occasions, though it goes well with casual clothes. It’s a flagship fragrance for all seasons and is ‘office friendly’ because it doesn’t bother anyone. It doesn’t project much, but I think that’s part of its formal charm. Scent: 9/10, Versatility: 8/10, Longevity: 7/10, Quality: 9/10. In summary: excellent quality, refined, and spicy scent, ideal for the office and formal occasions, conveying elegance and sobriety.
The opening can be a bit spicy and even synthetic, but after ten minutes it changes to become powdery and sweet, a delight. Good for everyday office wear or a night out, but I don’t feel it’s right for evening. However, it’s a good purchase.
It was my signature for years. A wonderful dry all-rounder when the nutmeg drops in. It lasts 6 to 7 hours with moderate projection; you notice it when you pass by or when someone gets close.
I don’t know much about perfumes; I’m 18 and work in an office. I wear it in summer and it’s very good. At first, it feels strong, but it softens over time. In the office, no one knows I’m wearing perfume until I get close, so it’s ideal for enclosed spaces: it doesn’t fill the whole classroom, but it reaches those who approach. It works for formal or casual wear; I use it in the morning and by late afternoon it smells amazing even on the bus. It doesn’t bother anyone. I hesitated at first, but after receiving compliments for smelling clean and fresh (citrusy), I recommend it for places without direct sunlight.
Rich, formal, and serious, with a sparkling touch that adds a youthful vibe without overdoing it. It stands out with notes of incense, pepper, elemi, and birch, creating an impressive synergy. It reminds me of Animale due to the vetiver, citrus, and that accorded note, but with its own personality. It’s versatile, good for both young and older adults, and shines in spring and summer, especially in the morning and afternoon.
Delicious and refined. I stopped wearing it alone because when I bought Mancera’s Wind Wood, I noticed a familiar violet note. Now I wear it over Wind Wood, giving the violet incredible power without ruining it. Since I love both, I’d buy them again. Wind Wood is my signature when it’s not too hot.
Longevity is its weak point; it barely sticks to the skin for 5 hours, but the scent is exquisite, masculine, and serious. Perfect for the office, though it doesn’t last all day without reapplication. I think the store price is high for what it offers; the fragrance isn’t bad, it just lacks performance.
Ideal for young people. I like the scent, but the trail is weak and it doesn’t last long on my skin. If it were a bit more potent, it would go from a ‘like’ to a ‘love’.
Rich scent that makes you feel different: fresh yet with spicy and woody notes, very unique. The only downside is it doesn’t project much and lasts about 6 hours on skin, but since it smells so good, I don’t mind reapplying it several times.
Ideal perfume for the office. The flankers of Gentleman don’t get the rating they deserve, but they are of excellent quality.
It starts with a citrusy and spicy opening, a burst of pink pepper that fades slightly, a subtle exquisite citrus note of bergamot, and a very unique woody resin. What an exquisite aroma! The floral notes are very subtle, perceiving mostly a powdery vetiver and slightly talcum-like. Its woody base is comforting and relaxing, with touches of nutmeg, cedar, and birch leaves that give it a powdery, fresh, and neat sensation, enveloped in a high-quality musk. It develops in an atmosphere of freshness, cleanliness, and great elegance. It’s a well-composed fragrance, synonymous with quality in all its notes. Its nature is fresh-spicy-woody, full of qualities, passing through elegance and sensuality, and ending up tender and harmless. It gives me an internal feeling of peace, tranquility, and comfort. With the versatility to apply it at a formal event adding security, or for daily use (office, school) adding confidence and nobility. It’s an almost complete fragrance; due to its nature, we can’t expect performance above average, lasting 3 to 4 hours depending on the weather and your pH, but if you keep it in a cool climate, you’ll get a delicately pleasant trail. Avoid using it in humid and extreme heat, because it will burn off much sooner. If you like this type of fragrance, you’ll know it’s worth the price. Otherwise, you’ll end up waiting for something else. I don’t know the parent brand yet, but in my opinion, it leans towards adult, mature, and experienced; here we find something more youthful without losing that exquisite and quality touch. Its name reveals its essence very well: refinement and exclusivity. Its heavy glass bottle is precious, elegant, and sober; a very addictive celestial blue liquid, you’ll always want to leave your mark. Guaranteed compliments, but not with a connotation of attraction, rather of respect and admiration. The scent gives them a feeling of relaxation, comfort, and confidence, without olfactory transgression, but a pile of olfactory caresses.
I see it for wearing with a casual shirt; it doesn’t fit with a t-shirt and shorts. It has a nutmeg touch like the BOSS In Motion (the sphere). It’s a rich, easy-to-wear scent that’s little-known for some reason, considering it’s good. Regarding performance, you need to reapply at the fourth or fifth hour. It has a very potent opening, then drops to skin-level, but stays warm. Still, it’s a good option to smell different from the most commercial scents.
Does Gentleman Only resemble L’Homme Libre EDT? Yes and no. They belong to the same olfactory family and have similar chemistry, but they differ radically in performance. It’s considerably rich and pleasant, but everything that is an attribute in L’Homme Libre here is a flaw: rather flat fragrance, poor trail, and scarce longevity. From the moment he put it on to go to work until he left the house (at most an hour), the fragrance had almost disappeared. If I had wanted more persistence, I would have had to apply triple the usual amount. Everything that is exuberance in the other is scarcity here. I don’t recommend it from a price-quality standpoint.
I bought a tester from 2015. The opening is rich, citrusy, and spicy, with a grassy note I think comes from birch leaves or patchouli. I like it because over time it dries down to wood and a bit of incense. Ideal for work and daily use. It smells a bit vintage, like the 90s or 00s. Apply about 8 sprays because afterward you’ll need to reapply. It has quality in those notes. THE BAD: as most people say, it’s the longevity. Givenchy, step up your game; you have rich scents but you fail on persistence. Overall rating: 7 to 7.5.
Gentleman Only is a harmless scent that projects cleanliness and prestige. It looks sexy if worn by a well-groomed man in a pressed shirt and polished shoes. It starts with a strong, almost spicy pink pepper opening, balanced by mandarin. In the heart, cedar, pink pepper, and incense create a mysterious air, like a gentleman who doesn’t show all his cards at first. It’s a bit overlooked in the Gentleman line, but it’s an excellent signature scent—less mass-produced if you want to smell different and pleasant, ideal for daily wear and the office. On my skin, it lasts the whole workday, sometimes pushing 10 hours, other times around 7.
Givenchy Gentleman (without iris) is chypre, fresh, sparkling, and soft. It has a youthful vibe, nothing too juvenile (even my cat could wear it), quite unisex for today’s standards. Dry down is herbal and woody, nothing heavy or invasive. Lasts about 5 hours with a very domesticated musk and incense. Perfect for spring and summer, for work without marking your trail, or casual afternoon outings. In cold weather or for going out at night to drink beers and gin tonics, it feels a bit weak; the first novice with Onemilion from Caravan will eat you alive.
Smells a lot like Nautica Voyage, but softer and with superior quality.
For the price, this is a gem. It has a creamy, fresh vibe; the sweetness isn’t cloying and it’s perfect for semi-formal situations. If you wear it daily, it might get a bit tiring by the end of the day. Longevity is average: projects for an hour, then clings to the skin for about 6 hours. Rating: 6.5/10. Great perfume for the price.
I tried it with just 2 sprays and was left speechless. It’s a simple, fresh scent with an aquatic-floral touch that reminds me of Versace Pour Homme. Perfect for everyday wear.
N O T A B L E
Office and daily wear fragrance. It opens very fresh with notes of bergamot and mandarin. As it dries down, it feels slightly woody. On my skin, the projection doesn’t last past an hour, and the trail is very weak.
A very interesting fragrance that stands out from the rest of the market. The smoky birch leaf and incense, combined with the earthy vetiver and spices, make it original, spicy, and semi-blue/citrus. It’s not the classic fresh and clean scent, nor is it just another office perfume. I was surprised by its longevity, lasting over 8 hours with a great trail. I know most people care about this, but if the scent is good, it outshines the other dry-downs in the Gentleman line. That’s why Givenchy, who isn’t stupid, keeps it in production and even released a new bottle unifying it with the Gentleman line.
It’s so casual yet refined at the same time… It’s the quiet guy at the party who always looks good. Smells fresh with a touch of sweetness without being cloying. I can imagine it with a sharper citrus note and boom, it would be a hit. It just lacks that extra touch to truly shine.
I love the opening, but as it dries down, it feels a bit generic and woody, coming across as quite ‘mature’ for my taste. I wouldn’t say it’s a safe blind buy.
This perfume is interesting; at first it seems like just another one, but over time you discover a distinct scent. It’s a pleasant aroma that makes you want to wear it more. It’s an acceptable sweetness that isn’t cloying, very distinguished. You can detect the pepper, incense, and wood. A fragrance that demonstrates quiet class while still catching the eye.
Classy freshness: Gentlemen Only is an underrated gem that deserves more attention. The opening is rich, citrusy with a subtle spicy sweetness that hooks you without being loud. The best part is that green, clean sensation, like light woods with a hint of earthiness. The structure is elegant, masculine, and conveys a sophisticated freshness rare in daily wear. It’s not for teenagers, but for those who want to smell great without drawing too much attention. Perfect for daytime, the office, or a city summer. If you just want to smell fresh, clean, and classy, go for it. I’d give it 9/10. It’s not scandalous or viral, but it has that discreet charm that only true gentlemen appreciate. It’s silent luxury.
A distinguished fragrance with character yet versatile, crafted for the modern man seeking elegance without the flash. It has good projection and medium longevity, suitable for day and night, especially in formal or business settings. The name says it all: an exclusive ‘Gentlemen Only’ that captures the essence of refined masculinity.
If you’re looking for a rich scent with great quality and a good price, I highly recommend it. It smells amazing and works in any season. The projection and sillage are moderate, but it’s definitely a compliment getter.
Synthetic citrus opening with a spicy kick that reminds me of Sculpture. Even though it doesn’t list white florals, they’re quite prominent. As it dries down, it becomes woody, soapy, and very clean without being harsh or loud. An informal and enjoyable scent, perfect for everyday wear and the office. A perfume that delivers.
