A work of art that has it all: sillage, longevity, and elegance.
It reminds me a lot of Enigma Parfum Cologne in its dry down. Coca-Cola with an overdose of sweetness. A castle of a perfume.
Brutal perfume. Oud on full blast, elegant, mixed with an animal note that I love. The rose is subtle, which is a plus since I don’t like strong rose scents. The vetiver smells like fresh forest grass. It’s a total olfactory experience. The oud and that balanced animal touch dominate. Perfect for formal events and winter.
Great perfume… A balanced animalic perfume (I like those kinds). The oud at its maximum power is elegant, I feel the rose is light (and that’s good because I don’t like it much) and a balanced vetiver, a fresh forest grass… Yes, it’s an olfactory experience… It’s predominantly balanced animalic and oud, perfect for formal events and winter.
Exquisite oriental composition, a perfectly balanced oud that denotes class, authority, and experience. The final phase of the fragrance didn’t quite work for me, but the entire lifespan is a gem; only the last hours, when it clings to the skin, give off a slightly unpleasant smell, like urine with woods, but bear in mind, it’s only the end; the whole fragrance is a super durable gem.
Luxurious oriental composition. The oud is spot on, marking class and experience. The dry down didn’t sit well with me; when it settles on the skin, it smells like urine with woods, a nasty odor. But watch out, that’s only the end. The rest is a super long-lasting jewel.
Back in 2018, I was backpacking through Rome, entering niche perfumeries with not a cent in my wallet. I walked into one near Plaza España. The guy behind the counter asked if I was looking for something. I said I was just browsing. He probably saw my backpack and knew I wasn’t there to buy fragrances, but he still asked about my favorite perfumes. At that moment, I told him Tom Ford’s Oud Wood. He started telling me that at some point in history, men’s perfumes sought to smell ‘strong and animalic’ rather than ‘clean and lavender-like.’ And right then, he pulled out Sohan to tell me that this perfume was inspired by that idea. At the time, my reference was Oud Wood, so obviously, Sohan seemed like a wild beast to me. The oud-rose combo, but with saffron and pink pepper, builds a spicy perfume, not as powdery as Oud Ispahan, a bit more challenging. Plus, it must carry some cumin, because there’s a point where it smells like sweat. At that moment, I thought, ‘this is a monster.’ I thanked him for his attention but said I wasn’t prepared to buy the fragrance. The guy kindly gave me a decant, which I kept for years until I could finally buy a bottle. Today, it’s my quintessential elegant perfume. P.S. Watch out for white clothes, as the juice is concentrated and stains everything.
Call me crazy, but the moment I smell it, I realize it follows the same line as Frank Olivier’s Oud Touch… I’m speechless… I can’t find any wild edge to it. It leans toward those almost powdery or effervescent fruity ouds…
It literally smells like an old casino. It’s strong, woody, and the labdanum with vetiver is very prominent. If you’re under 35, I don’t recommend it.
It literally smells like an old casino gentleman. It’s quite strong, woody, and the labdanum with vetiver is very pronounced; I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re under 35.
What a pity they discontinued this little gem. Fortunately, I managed to buy the last available bottle at the perfumerie. An aroma that follows the rose-oud archetype; if you know Oud Palao, Blessing Silence by The House of Oud, Jupiter by Electimuss, and others, it follows the same path, but with a difference, thanks to a touch of cumin (an undeclared note) or a sweat note, which gives it a more animalic and sexual touch. A blend of saffron, labdanum, and Laotian oud, which undoubtedly is what most disturbed and exhilarated me in my entire perfume collection with the rose-oud combo. Wow! Oh my gosh!!! It lasts approximately fifteen minutes before settling into a more recognizable archetype, letting the rose, pepper, and sandalwood shine through, becoming slightly creamier and sweeter, yet without losing that wonderful oud note that gives it a mysterious and dry character. A mature, elegant, mysterious perfume that you can wear when you feel the need to dress up and make yourself feel seen. It’s unisex, for people over thirty, very versatile, except in extreme heat. With correct longevity and projection, without being overwhelming, you can perceive it for 10 hours with five sprays. In short, it’s my gem of the rose-oud combo. Sohan isn’t a submissive oud or a decorative rose. This is dark spice, fleshy rose, and burning amber, built with firm elegance and no concessions. The opening is intense and spicy, with a warm, quite peppery character that marks from the very first second. As it dries, a deep, mature, softly powdery rose emerges—perhaps romantic, leaning more toward a resinous veil than a fresh petal. This rose blends with a dark, dry, well-crafted oud, free of exaggerated animalic notes or medicinal harshness. The heart becomes increasingly ambered and enveloping, with an almost incense-like, warm, and luxurious sensation, while the base maintains a solid, persistent, and refined presence. There is no easy sweetness or attempt to please everyone: Sohan is serious, intense, and impeccably dressed. It’s an opulent yet restrained perfume, ideal for those who enjoy deep oriental fragrances with weight, presence, and a clear masculine identity without excess… but let me warn you, this is the only Panthalogon’s in the collection that is not at all faint. It’s not for casual use or hot climates; it demands night, a coat, and attitude. One of the most solid and elegant proposals within the Portraits collection when seeking dark, refined vibes of spice, rose, and oud.
