Brutal and spectacular it smells different from the rest. It’s persistent and intense very sweet with vanilla and honey. People went crazy when they heard me at the store. I love that it stuck to all my clothes… oh it’s like an orgasm except I want to put it on more and more. It’s a drug!

Brutal spectacular and different. Persistent intense and very very sweet: pure vanilla and honey. When buying people were floored by the smell. I love that it stuck to all my clothes… ugh it’s like an orgasm except I want to put it on more and more. It’s a drug.

The Montale Paris house isn’t usually my strong suit in the niche world; the ones I’ve tried like their star Black Aoud seemed a bit heavy and synthetic with none of them sitting well with me. This one however is a small exception. It’s a super-sweet gourmand where almonds and vanilla come out at first with an almost feminine air. Gradually they mix with honey and it becomes a bit darker and more masculine. In the final phase which takes a while to arrive (maybe more than 8 hours) I even detect a hint of sweet tobacco or at least that sensation. I think it’s a totally unisex perfume. Despite being very strong or dense it’s a fairly simple fragrance with few notes; unlike other Aoud series this one seemed quite natural and well-executed to me even becoming addictive especially in its mid-to-final phase. Without seeming cloying it is excessively sweet at times and given its enormous longevity that can be a small drawback although it’s very subjective and changes depending on the occasion. Risking that Cnidaria might pull my ear since this genre is her specialty and I’m quite amateurish in it I’d say it’s an excellent gourmand with impeccable performance one of the most potent and long-lasting I’ve tried in years.

The Montale house isn’t my strong suit in niche; the ones I’ve tried like the Black Aoud sounded synthetic and crude to me but this is a gem. It’s a super-sweet gourmand that starts with almonds and vanilla almost feminine and then mixes honey to become darker and more masculine. At the end after about 8 hours I detect sweet tobacco. It’s unisex dense but simple with few notes that sound natural and well-executed here even addictive in the mid-phase. It’s not cloying although its extreme sweetness and enormous longevity can be a subjective counterpoint. If Cnidaria tags me as an amateur in the genre I admit it: it’s an excellent gourmand potent and long-lasting one of the best I’ve tried in years.

  • Almond opening with honey and a bit of rose but practically imperceptible. Then it becomes a bit powdery and the vanilla takes over. Longevity and projection are both excellent there’s no doubt about that. Although it’s unisex I see it leaning more towards the feminine side due to its powdery character. I see it as more suitable for use in cold climates.

  • Almonds vanilla and honey. This is one of the wildest olfactory bombs I know. The almond opening and then it’s like you just put them on a plate of crème brûlée the size of the world the burnt crust made of caramel and honey. Smells very good a lot. It’s invasive wild and you have to be careful not to overapply because it can suffocate you and your surroundings. I think it’s unisex but a bit more feminine. Zero discretion very sweet invasive and a fragrance to tell the world I’m here. Clothes stay impregnated with this scent for weeks. It’s all-terrain and very provocative. Projection of 3 meters and longevity projecting for 10 hours on skin and up to 24 (it even lasts through showers). Rating: 8. Would I buy it: Not for me but yes for my wife.

Sweet Oriental Dream is the orgy of sweetness in fragrance format. The almond takes on incredible importance in this perfume which is mind-blowing in sillage and longevity just like many Montales. The truth is you don’t get these as gifts but these characters are perfect for letting you smell for hours; depending on how lightly you hold the spray radiation sensors could detect it… what a beast how much it projects some brands should take notes from it. I understand a perfume isn’t supposed to be a walking skunk… but at least the wearer should be able to smell it themselves. As I said at the beginning the almond is the star of this sweet bacchanal alongside a very cloying honey but with some very real beautiful and natural rose touches since many Montales smell syrupy and this one doesn’t quite as much. Although the rose shows up at times the reality is it’s a wild party that makes your teeth ache just from smelling it. In my perception it’s an elegant perfume; even though it’s excessively sweet worn in the right season and with moderation it dresses both men and women adequately because it’s not so banal despite being hyper-sweet.

  • Sweet Oriental Dream by Montale. Sweet but for real. On my skin the almond and honey really stand out. The longevity and projection are incredible ideal for areas with harsh winters. It’s very comforting to wrap yourself in it. Two sprays are enough for the whole day. Despite how sweet it is it doesn’t smell common or generic; it’s quite elegant. I like it.

  • When it comes to Montale you don’t play: the three I’ve tried have brutal sillage and longevity. Sweet Oriental Dream starts with an insane sweetness a maximum-power hit of vanilla and almond all mixed with honey for an extra gourmand touch. Although the rose typical of the house feels a bit light in the dry-down I think this exaggerated sweetness that lasts forever makes it more for a female audience. If you like power-sweet scents here’s an ideal heavyweight for cold climates and windy places. Tremendously potent so be careful.

  • I bought it blind at an acceptable price and I don’t regret it. I think this mix of vanilla and almond smells like musk, like a Givenchy Pi or Guerlain Ideal. That makes it a bit more feminine, but I wear it easily without looking like a queen. The sillage is overrated according to Fragrantica, but it’s quite good.

Moved by the glowing descriptions and as a lover of oriental scents, I tried it. The projection was a knockout; it flooded my room with a single spray. The aroma is different: syrupy and floral. To me, it smells like Amaretto liqueur, not baklava. I don’t see this in a man; it’s too sweet and powdery to be unisex, ideal for women or as a room freshener if not for the price. Clearly for winter, and I’m not sure for what occasions. It’s so particular that trying a sample is worth it.

Holy cow! I had high expectations… It’s incredibly potent, too honeyed for me. Super realistic and slightly powdery, nice. If you like honey and vanilla, it’s yours. I have a small letdown because I expected my signature almond perfume. I see it as informal and not very versatile, for cold seasons (in summer, bees will attack you). It’s very well done with brutal sillage and longevity. It’s a nice scent, an olfactory experience. Don’t expect much almond; the honey crowns everything. And the rose… not even a whisper.

  • Although I expected Sweet Oriental Dream to be purely gourmand, on my skin the rose stands out, beneath the dominant almond. This makes it more bitter than it seems in others, where the honey takes center stage. It seems different to me and is worth it for its sillage, longevity, and unique aroma. On me, almond and rose are unique and interesting. The honey and vanilla are subtle in the background. Over time, the rose disappears, leaving almond and vanilla. Curiously, the honey is the note I perceive the least, though I’ll try it in more heat. It lasts 9-10 hours. Although I like it a lot, Sweet Vanilla still wins in this house. Update: It has become addictive; now I perceive the honey with the almond. I notice a soapy touch that makes my mouth water thinking of Arab sweets. I love it. Scent 8.5/10, Longevity 10/10, Sillage 8/10, Value/Quality 7/10, Versatility 7/10, Packaging 8/10. Would I buy it again? Yes.

  • Although I expected Sweet Oriental Dream to be a pure gourmand on my skin the rose stands out a lot below the almond. This makes it more bitter than most perceive where the honey usually comes out on top. It’s a different perfume and worth it for its magnificent sillage and longevity and its particular aroma. On me the mix of almond and rose is unique and interesting; the honey and vanilla are in the background subtle at first. Over time the rose disappears and only almonds and vanilla remain. Curiously I notice the honey less although maybe it comes out better with more heat. It lasts 9-10 hours. I like it a lot but Sweet Vanilla still beats it in this house. Update: it’s become more and more addictive. Now I notice the honey with the almond and a soapy touch that makes my mouth water thinking of Arab sweets. I love it! Scent 8.5/10 Longevity 10/10 Sillage 8/10 Value/Price 7/10 Packaging 8/10. Would I buy again? Yes.

  • Hyper-realistic honey, almond, and a touch of vanilla. I don’t sense the rose. It doesn’t smell sexy or elegant; instead, it feels like walking into your home on a cold winter day. It’s a personal indulgence that I find addictive. The fixations, true to Montale, are eternal; two sprays are enough.

  • Hyper-realistic honey, almonds, and a bit of vanilla. I don’t smell the rose. It’s not sexy or elegant; it’s like walking into a house on a cold winter day. A personal pleasure perfume, addictive. The fixation is eternal; two sprays are enough.

  • I adored this perfume; I’m a lover of sweets, and this takes the crown. The opening is strong but delicious; I wore it on the 31st and it lasted all night; I could still smell it 7 hours later projecting about half a meter. It stays sweet and almond-y; I barely detect the rose. I applied it to my son and he liked it, but I find it very feminine. In the last hours, it smells powdery, enveloping, and sensual. I really loved it.

What a joy to receive my Montale box! It took 9 days to arrive in Spain. This fragrance is different from what I expected, for the better; I was expecting something like Lady Million with honey, but it has nothing to do with that (better that way). The dry-down reveals the almond after 2-3 hours. At first, it’s sweet, like toffee caramel with milk, with an oriental touch I can’t quite place. It’s an oriental gourmand; it reminds me of Hypnotic Poison or Dior’s Poison when dry, due to the shared almond, vanilla, rose, and honey. Sweet Oriental Dream is in the same family: strong, oriental, and sweet, with honey leading to a creamy base. Only time will tell if it holds up and projects; they say it’s a Montale bomb.

  • Nice perfume, but the opening is half Johnson’s Baby lotion, half almond oil. Very powdery. At first, I smell raw almond with floral touches; the honey doesn’t dominate but mixes with the vanilla, which I appreciate and gives it sweetness. The dry-down is the best part: crème catalane with vanilla, burnt honey, and white musk, a delight. I don’t find it elegant, but comforting. I wouldn’t buy it again. However, the longevity and sillage are infinite. Edit: It has won me over more; now I clearly smell the honey and rose. If you like this aroma, buy it; it’s cheap and the most durable I own. I wear it to go out and get compliments; at home, it brings me peace. I’ve tried layering it with Light Blue or Fancy, and it worked great for summer.

This perfume boils down to three notes: almond, powdery, and vanilla. I don’t detect the honey, and the overall effect is synthetic, like brand-new rubber dolls straight out of the plastic. The rose pairs with the almond at the start but then disappears, leaving just vanilla and powder. The longevity and sillage are a shadow of what people say; for a bit more, you could get a Tom Ford Noir Extreme with better quality vanilla and lasting power. This Montale smells like almond and vanilla lotion or baby cream.

  • ThetioLui

It boils down to three notes: almond, vanilla, and talcum powder. I didn’t detect the honey, and the overall scent is very synthetic, like brand-new rubber dolls straight out of the plastic. The rose pairs with the almond at the start but then vanishes, leaving only vanilla and talcum. The longevity and sillage, which were once legendary, are now a shadow of their former selves. For slightly less, you can get a Tom Ford Noir Extreme (100ml for €120 on sale) with superior quality vanilla and much better longevity; it’s unisex, though some say it leans masculine. Quality has a price, and it’s worth investing in it rather than chasing inflated perfumes driven by ‘hype’ or reviewers’ ‘hype and hoopla,’ which are all similar and add nothing new. This Montale smells like almond and vanilla aftershave lotion or the heads of those chubby dolls.

  • I didn’t smell any honey at all; it smells like baby wipes. Even though it wasn’t what I was looking for, it has a powdery sweetness that hooks me. If you like this kind of scent, you’ll tolerate it; if not, forget it. It reminds me of Mancera’s Black Vanilla.

  • I love it! Great trail and longevity. It’s very powdery and sweet. I’m addicted to it.

  • anamaestracorreo

The scent is like taking Johnson’s Baby Almond Oil, mixing it with the musk from Kenzo’s Flower, and splashing in ultra-sweet honey. Longevity and projection are very high.

  • Correction: its scent is super almond-y, I notice the honey, and it evolves favorably over time. Although its DNA resembles Byzantium’s TDO, this is much more potent, sweeter, and the honey stands out more. I don’t understand why they don’t declare an iris note; it clearly carries something for that charming powdery drydown. Scent: 8/10, Projection: 9/10, Longevity: 10/10.

  • Just arrived; it’s very similar to Tesori’s Beige from Byzantium. Right now, it smells like Tesori but with steroids, baby talcum with a bit more. But honestly, if you want to know how it smells, first try Tesori, which is only 9 euros.

  • I bought it completely blindly, guided by reviews; fortunately, it was a decant because it smells like Johnson’s baby oil. I didn’t like it at all; to me, it smells like a new diaper.

  • I bought this fragrance blind, guided by reviews. Fortunately, it was a decant because it smells like Johnson’s baby oil. I didn’t like it at all; in my opinion, it smells like a brand-new diaper.

  • I see it as a Western interpretation of a sweet oriental scent, with two clear phases on my skin. At first, there’s a synthetic accord mixing amaretti cookie smells (or cyanide, whatever floats your boat) with lots of honey. This honey isn’t sweet; it has that typical urinous hint found in sweet oriental perfumes. As it settles, it improves, and despite keeping its honeyed tone, the synthetic touches disappear to give way to a powdery vanilla so dense and talcum-like that I doubt it doesn’t contain orris butter. However, I like this phase more, even though it keeps that little urinous note that doesn’t fully convince me. The projection and longevity are excellent: it lasts all day on me and on clothes until I wash them. It’s VERY sweet for deep winter or cold nights. Despite the sweetness, I’d dare say it’s unisex. For me, it’s comforting, though a bit cloying in the long run: I use it working from home to feel accompanied, it works well for informal or semi-formal outings. But NEVER in the office, for the risk of killing anyone sharing the space. Pleasant: 6/10, Interesting: 6/10, Versatile: 5/10, Original: 6/10.

  • ShiseidoTactics

It’s quite feminine (by my standards, I don’t want to impose), nothing unisex. The opening is loud and synthetic, then it settles into a pleasant but intrusive talcum-like drydown; be careful with the sprays. When dry, it’s eminently floral, and you can detect the almond scent in the middle and final stages. I didn’t notice the honey at all; I wouldn’t use it, but for some women, it could be a striking contrast. PS: Montale guarantees extremely high sillage and longevity, so be careful with the opening.

  • It’s a lovely perfume; it smells like baby oil and doesn’t bother me at all. I use it to sleep. It makes me feel comfortable at night because it feels soft and powdery, perfect for personal indulgence.

  • It feels so honeyed and is very realistic. Sweet and dry, very pleasant without being overwhelming. If you like honey notes, you can buy it blindly. In my case, it was a total hit; I perceive it as leaning more toward the feminine side.

  • Smells innocent, tender, and cozy; nothing invasive yet powerful, though a bit synthetic at first. The almonds are sweet like sugar, and the honey blends sweetness with a slight acidity without any bitterness. It’s true that it evokes Johnson’s baby oil, which creates either love or hate. While some might find it weird or childish, for me, those scents are special, lovely, and addictive. On my skin, it leaves a fresh, herbal touch like tea—perhaps due to that slightly acidic honey—and lasts about an hour. It’s a special perfume, but I wouldn’t buy it blindly.
