At first, it smells super clean, like freshly laundered clothes; it might please you or remind you of detergent. The apple feels citrusy, with soft pine and jasmine, but I can’t detect the Tree of Life. Then it shifts to cedar and vetiver with a musky touch, though the patchouli didn’t work for me. It’s fun, youthful, and sparkly, perfect for informal spring or summer wear. It lasted over 8 hours but with a weak trail, typical for Lacoste. If it’s on sale, it’s worth it, but at $80, forget it.

  • This is an incredible perfume; it smells like just out of the shower and leaves everyone impressed. I’m a woman and my ex-boyfriend used to wear it, so I tried it and loved it so much I kept wearing it myself. I turn around every time I see a man wearing it. For Lacoste, I give it a 10.

  • At first, the pine and apple are very noticeable, but after 15 minutes, the vetiver takes over. After an hour and a half, it got a bit boring on me, though later the jasmine and cedar resurfaced. It lasted about 7 to 8 hours with a moderate trail; ideal for hot days. It costs around $90 for 100ml.

  • Arcturus

This perfume is already discontinued. It’s good but it didn’t excite me much. Aquatic style, masculine, and modern.

  • Carlos Gómez

One of the worst I’ve tried from Lacoste. Very, very weak; it doesn’t radiate. To feel its scent, you have to be almost pressed against the person.

  • Omegarojas

I don’t know what to say; I used this along with the Essential and the L.12.12 White. Good and rich aroma, but poor trail and longevity. That said, on my brother’s skin it went better.

  • I had it shelved and used it occasionally for the gym to use it up slowly. To my surprise, today I used it for work (8 am) and what a shock: many coworkers liked it and it brought back good memories. Many women love it; I don’t know what it has, since I find it very synthetic and dizzying. It’s sporty and youthful, good trail. When I got home at 6 pm, my wife liked the smell and asked what it was; I said it smells rich, umm, which one is it? Lacoste Red. I replied: ‘Ahhh!’ and sprayed some on her arm. Umm, I have to give it a 9 for the impression it caused, even though I wouldn’t pay attention to it myself I’d give it a 6, but for its trail, longevity, and impact it deserves a 9 compared to its sisters which have very soft trail and longevity. Special for young guys who want to impress girls… green apple acid scent. Of course, 10 sprays on body and clothes.

  • It’s excellent for summer; it feels warm and deep, very rich. As for the notes and dry down: the green apple lasts 5 minutes, then cedar and a closed patchouli take over with soft vetiver and musk. Longevity is 4 to 6 hours, moderate trail.

  • Style in Play seems pretty good to me. It’s very different; it smells clean, like clothes hung out to dry in the sun, hehe. I love that mentholated note; it gives me energy. Wow.

  • Style in Play by Lacoste is fresh and fruity, ideal for summer and spring. Most of the time, the fruity notes are noticeable, with citrus that aren’t even listed, plus woody notes and a touch of pine. Its longevity is low, barely reaching 5 hours, and the projection is too. It’s a shame about its poor performance because the scent is pleasant. If you find it on sale or cheap, it’s worth it; it’s very versatile.

A TRUE GEM! I think this Lacoste isn’t valued as it deserves. It’s different and the scent is exquisite; it reminds me of Deus, I don’t know, but it’s incredible how much it excites me; sometimes I spray it before bed and fall asleep like that. I found out about it because I ordered it from the US on Fragrancenet: low prices, they sell testers, and on your first purchase they give you a coupon. Total, it came out to about 700 Mexican pesos; I hesitated and it took a month and a half because it got stuck at the border, but they refunded me and two weeks later the gem arrived. The rest is history, I’m already on my second bottle. Highly recommended, it’s 125ml of quality.

  • I just tried it almost blindly because of the good comments on the forums. At first, I loved it, but then the projection dropped. For Lacoste, it has decent projection and longevity. I like it for daily wear, though I think there are better options for the same or lower price. It wouldn’t be a bad buy if you catch it at the right price.

There’s nothing more to say: it smells incredible, clean, and fresh, but the projection and longevity are among the worst I’ve ever experienced, even if you overapply it. Update (10/3/18): I checked and found that with about 10-12 generous sprays, the longevity is much better than I thought. Definitely giving it more points.

A hidden gem. Several years ago, I had the fortune of meeting this fragrance on someone; without knowing its name or brand, it made me feel a unique experience I had never had with any other. By chance of fate and for a long time, I searched for it in department stores with the desperate urge to acquire it, but I couldn’t find it; by its scent, I thought it was from a great designer in the world of fashion or jewelry. Until one great day, during a chat with close friends about perfumes, one asked me: Have you tried Lacoste Red? To which I replied no, and he insisted that I smell it and tell him my opinion when I had the opportunity. More time passed until the big moment arrived. With great nostalgia, I asked a saleswoman to spray my wrist, and as soon as I smelled it, I felt an enormous wave of emotions, like remembering a unique experience in your life. I will always thank that great friend for his great words about this fragrance. It’s a very special scent; in my opinion, it’s perfect for the office and for couple outings! Women love it, I’ve received many compliments! It is undoubtedly… a hidden gem.

  • A masterpiece. Among the best from Miss Menardo to date, this Lacoste surpasses Status. It’s fresh, fruity without being sweet, featuring green apple, pine, and pleasant woods, very youthful. The Lady put a lot of enthusiasm into it. I’ve heard it has poor longevity and projection, maybe if you use too little, but it didn’t limit me for me. Undoubtedly the best from Lacoste. I don’t usually recommend blindly, but if you try it, you’ll see what I mean. No regrets; it’s very masculine. Cheers.

  • A great achievement. Among the latest and best from Miss Menardo, this Lacoste currently surpasses the brand’s Status expectations. It creates a fresh and pleasant sensation for itself, fruity but not sweet, an apple, green pine, non-aquatic wood but fresh and pleasant, very youthful. Honestly, the Lady put a lot of enthusiasm into this perfume (an excellent simplicity that’s hard to find). I’ve heard it has low projection and longevity; maybe if you use a little, you get a little, though I’m honest to say I didn’t hold back on the trigger with this beauty. Undoubtedly the best of Lacoste. I usually don’t recommend any fragrance blindly, and neither would this one. But if you have the chance, try it and you’ll see that the old version was well-made. You won’t regret it, very masculine fragrance. Greetings and thanks.

I tried it at university with a ‘traveler’ version from a classmate who wore it every class; the longevity and projection were disappointing. After graduating, I tried it again and the scent is very good; the 2009 batch had better fixation than my friend’s, though maybe it was just pH. I enjoyed that bottle until only a trickle remained for my memory. Last year I saw it at Liverpool on a trip and was surprised it was discontinued. I bought it, and the quality dropped to ridiculous levels; the projection became just a simple splash. I tried putting half the legacy bottle on and half the new one on: the quality drop was real. The reformulation played against an excellent fragrance. Legacy 8/10 – Reformulated 5/10.

I first smelled this fragrance in college when a classmate wore a ‘traveler’ version religiously at every class change due to its disappointing longevity and projection. After graduating, I decided to give it a shot because… the scent is VERY GOOD, and the batch I got back then (from 2009) had, in my opinion, slightly better projection and sillage than my classmate’s (though pH could also be a factor), and I honestly enjoyed that bottle; in less than 4 months, only the classic splash remained so my olfactory memory wouldn’t forget it. Last year, while on a business trip in Qro, I saw this bottle again at Liverpool and it felt strange since it was theoretically quite discontinued, so I bought it… they should have let it die in peace… the quality dropped to ridiculous levels in the fixatives and the projection changed to be just another splash rather than an EDT… thinking it might be an issue of environment and perception, I did an experiment by applying half of my Legacy bottle on the left side of my skin and the new bottle on the right, and no, it wasn’t a perception issue; the quality drop was real once again; the reformulation played against an excellent fragrance. Legacy 8/10 – Reformulated 5/10.

One of the fragrances that truly won me over. Everyone loves apple—whether it’s the traditional red, the sweet yellow, or the little ones from Saltillo—but the green one is different. It’s more acidic than sweet, mixed with cedar (I used to associate cedar with mahogany-like wood) and the base notes make for a unique perfume. It’s sporty only in terms of projection: 5-7 sprays for a 3-5 hour performance because the scent transports me to a place beyond the tennis court. It’s not a feminine scent, but a woman would wear it just to feel the presence of someone charming, like a green apple, without people needing to think too much about it. If you want to keep someone close, this perfume is the whisper in the ear.

  • Tecnologoto

Definitely a woody fragrance, but the wood note doesn’t dominate; it’s the floral and apple notes that shine. I’d describe it as playful, conquering, but not reckless. Its sweetness isn’t excessive; on the contrary, it’s pleasant for daytime use and won’t overwhelm the noses around you. It could be for everyday wear, but not for serious, formal, or mature occasions. It’s informal, casual, youthful, and extroverted. It denotes joy. It suits all ages, especially young people. Adults can wear it too, but I imagine it on someone with all the aforementioned traits.

  • I own a huge collection of fragrances of all kinds, but Lacoste Style in Play is one of the most incredible scents I’ve ever smelled. I’m not really an expert on fragrance notes; I just know that I absolutely love it and I’ve never smelled anything like it. Honestly, for me, it’s the best.

  • You see the bottle and think: gym fragrances… but you smell it and say: pick-up fragrances. What does it smell like? I don’t know… it smells rich and seductive. You might say there are better things for seduction, but try this, approach a woman, and then let me know…

  • I recently picked up a 125ml bottle from the 2020 batch, and what a delight—it’s like reliving memories from my high school days and first jobs. It was super popular back in 2005; almost everyone wore it. So glad Lacoste is still producing it and it hasn’t become too overused; I find it more versatile thanks to its apple and green notes (pine, thuja leaves giving that resinous yet clean touch, with vetiver pushing through in the dry down). The jasmine in the heart creates a special blend that later merges with cedar and amber, maintaining good longevity. On my skin, it lasts about 7 to 8 hours with moderate projection, ideal for a workday. It doesn’t bother anyone and stays present for a long time, believe me. Women give it plenty of compliments; they’re fascinated by it. The important thing is that you like it, so lift your spirits in these tough times. Plus, it has an excellent price, around $30. I’m back again, Style in Play will stay with me for a long time. You got it!

  • Excellent fragrance. Smells clean, impeccable, and delicious. Women love it. I read it was discontinued, which would be a shame. I consider it one of the best in my collection. To me, this smells like Lacoste.

  • eliezerv63

Perfect for summer heat. It’s floral, unisex, and leans masculine. Smells fresh and clean, a bit different. It smells great, but before buying, test it on your skin to see if it’s for you. Cheers!

I decided to buy this guilty pleasure. The first time I smelled it, it was from an uncle who loves perfumes, and my initial reaction was absolute rejection, but over time I felt like trying it again and my surprise was that I tolerated it a bit more. After many years, I finally decided to give it a shot, and these are my impressions: If you’re looking for something for everyday wear, it works wonders; don’t expect a huge sillage or impressive longevity—in my case, nothing’s left after more than 3 hours. Summary: it’s good, don’t miss out if you haven’t tried it.

  • This scent feels strange to me; it’s masculine and had a bad reputation for being worn only on clothes. Its secret is on the skin: it’s sensational, masculine, with more green notes than sweet ones. I’ve gotten good compliments and it attracts attention. The price is very good, and the bottle and cap are pretty and well-made. I’ve already had two and I’m definitely getting a third. From 6:30 AM until bedtime, the scent lingers on the skin, though faintly. On clothes, I don’t feel it as potent, but on the skin it’s great. It’s delicious at night and phenomenal for going out.

I could start by saying the notes are simple, but this particular perfume was the first one that reminds me of my childhood and the years I wore it as a signature scent back in 2005. Currently, Italian Love is the only one with that same base. Aside from that, the opening is pine with that delicious apple. It’s so youthful and yet that pleasant aroma never goes out of style.

  • MoniMoni1989

In Colombia we know it as Lacoste Roja, but I see it’s called Style in Play here; it’s very pleasant and super popular in my country.

  • marcosluparia

Style in Play by Lacoste. Just found out it has this name; I’ve always known it as ‘Lacoste Red’. I think I’m going against the grain here. For me, it wasn’t memorable. It’s just a decent fruity fragrance, nothing more. One of those I want to finish quickly so I can move on to the next. I bought it because I loved the Lacoste Booster, but it was an impulse buy. Beyond the initial apple blast, lavender kicked in after half an hour. Longevity is average to poor. When I review based on memory, I’m surprised that forgettable or generic scents get such high praise, like this one. If I can find it cheap, given the positive reviews, I might buy it again. Rating: 5/10.

  • Nice perfume, the only downside is it doesn’t last long on my skin, maybe 2 to 3 hours. It was one of the first ones my mom ever gave me. If you can grab it at a good price, it’s worth it.

  • metroidsoldier

Trialed Lacoste Red Play and it smells like green apple with pine—though I’m pretty sure it is pine. The longevity is low, but I love pine scents and it works in any weather.
